Full textThis thesis in comparative education, in Syria and in France, is devoted to preschool child (4 to 6 years), in Average Section of Nursery school (ASN) and Great Section of Nursery School (GSN): 5 academic schools and a Montessori school, in each country. The initial matter is to bring to light the differences in education, in Syria and in France, and to evaluate the schoolboy's level (ASN & GSN) in oral expression and for the beginnings of writing: reading, writing and drawing. The first and theoretical part is a historical and comparative study of preschool child's education in the two countries, followed by a detailed analysis of child's sensory-motor and linguistic development. The second and experimental part is an objective study of affinities and differences of preschool education, in Syria and in France. We have assembled an experimental protocol, composed of several shutters and applied in twelve schools in the two countries, with: 1) an inventory of fixtures, founded on a whole of observation criteria. 2) The children environment is observed (544, including 287 for Syria and 257, for France) and studied using an observation grid (52 clauses) and with a Questionnaire, proposed to the 24 teachers (42 open-ended questions) which gives an account of their formation and their educational practices. 3) The dynamics of children socio-cultural environment is appraised with 13 closed questions, asked to the parents (317 Syrians and 164 French). The last section of this experimentation is especially devoted to the child, in the heart of the first learning: drawing letter and word, and the Goodenough Draw-a-man Test (1957), child representing himself and writing his name, to bring out his maturation level of the sensory motor system and his intelligence awakening: any psychological interpretation of personality remaining out of the matter. Results corroborate the data of literature, objectively specified, and they allow some propositions, for Syria, as for France, adapted to the two socio-educative contexts

Full textFrom a corpus set up in accordance with the ethnographic method, it will be a matter of describing the preschool period as the time and the place where a child becomes a pupil. It will be also a matter of showing that the narrative semiotic gives an appropriate toll to this transformation's analysis. Th child, in the infant school, must go through many tests, he must face up to problems, in order to appropriate the school's objects and the school's culture. These two things will make him become a pupil. First, he'll acquire a "to want" (or "to must") be provide with schooling and he'll acquire a "to can" (and to know") understand the school's expectations. Secondly, when he has these skills, the pupil will acquire some knowledge and the right behaviour. At the end, he'll must show that he can behave like a pupil in order to be recognized like one. Most of the time, it's the teacher, through tests, whom recognises him. In fact, these three tests mingle, they go forward and backward. The child doesn't follow a rectilinear path to become a pupil. At the infant school, the pupil's identity mixes with the child's identity (and sometimes, they confront each other). At the same time, the parents must follow their own path so that they can behave like the pupil's parents. They must go through many tests : they must manly accept the separation (with their child), they must know the school's expectations and they must accompany their child's schooling. These skills are : to know how to provide with schooling, to be informed, to accompany the child's schooling. The school judges parents from these skills ; it's also the main "judge" whom can give a decision on this new identity

Full textThis thesis is both an enquiry into the relationship between play and education and a contribution to plotting their relationship correctly. To this end, it analyses past and present texts which deal with the relationship of play and education, in order to understand the logic of their being linked. Initially the thinking of those writers begin the intellectual debate on the educationnal value of play is examined. This is followed by its practice in the world of schools as exemplified the French nursery school by looking at official and semi-official pronouncements from this institution. Contemporary evidence is taken from research, in questionnaire and interview form conducted with the appropriate teachers. The reality behind pronouncements linking play and education is taken from different contexts, through statements to the various regulations. All these data lead to a proposed global analysis of the relationship between play and education, including the constant paradox of the frivolous and the serious set face to face

Full textIf the education of the preschool aged young children seems to be a necessity everywhere in mali, it's on the contrary in practice on it's decline. The moderne educative institutions day nursery, nursery school, etc. . . ) are unadequate and unable to assume the education of all the children. As for the large uninstitutionnal sector, in which almost all of the children of the country move, it responds less and less to all the real needs. A new approach asserts itself

Full textThe overall objective of this thesis is to examine the reciprocal links between the quality of emotional support in preschool classroom of five-year-olds in relation to the children's engagement with their teacher and peers. To do so,113 children (66girls and 47 boys) between the ages of five and six years (M = 73.34 months, ET= 4.22) were recruited. They come from 12 preschool classroom of five-year-olds with an average of 17 children. The sample also consists of 12 preschool teachers who are on average 35.92 years old (ET = 8.53). The classes are spread acrosss even schools in the Quebec City area and one school in Beauce. The thesis consists of two articles, which correspond to five specific research objectives. The first objective is to examine the quality of emotional support in the classroom, while the second is to measure the children's level of engagement(positive and negative) towards their teacher and peers in the preschool classroom of five-year-olds. The third objective is to study the reciprocal associations between the quality of emotional support and the children's engagement toward the teacher and peers. These first three objectives are discussed in the first article of this thesis. The results of this first article indicate that the quality of emotional support is moderate, the children's engagement toward the teacher and their negative engagement are of low levels, while engagement with peers is medium-low. The study of the reciprocal associations between these variables demonstrates that the quality of emotional support predicts a children’s positive engagement toward peers and negative engagement toward their teacher and peers in the classroom. For his part, the children's engagement in interactions with his teacher and peers does not predict the quality of emotional support. These early results highlight the need to continue to study factors that promote the development of the quality of emotional support in the classroom, for example by enhancing teachers' initial training in this area. With regard to the low levels of engagement observed, it isproposed to deepen our knowledge of the factors contributing to the quality of children's engagement. The last two objectives of this thesis, discussed in the second article, are first to study the different classroom contexts, depending on the types of activities (routines/transitions, free games/workshops) and groupings (large groups, small groups, individuals), and then determine whether engagement levels vary in these same contexts. The analyses presented in this second article indicate that the contexts that were primarily observed in the classes areroutine/transitional activities and grouping into large groups. In addition, the children’s engagement to peers is higher in free play activities workshops and grouping in small groups, while the children’s engagement toward the teacher is higher during routine and transition activities. The small proportion of free games/workshops and grouping into observed small groups is cited as a lead to educate teachers about their contribution to children's levels of engagement with their peers. The need to clarify our knowledge of the prevailing contexts in preschool classroom of five-year-olds in Quebec is finally emphasized. The conclusion provides promising avenues of research as well as avenues related to teaching practice in preschool education for five-year-olds.

Full textIn france, earlier and earlier massive preshooling constitutes a real social phenomenen. What are the concrets effects of the first year of preshooling for children aged from two to four ? according to one of the objectives attributed to nursery schools which is "to socialise", performances of about hundred children have been valued during usual school activities: daily activities in relation with the body, the graphic description of the human body, communicative and linguistic activities, productive and receptive activities. The comparative synchronic and diachronic analysis of the results, in each of these studies at the beginning and at the end of the school year, achieved by boys and girls coming from environments, either more or less favoured, taken in classrooms or in home classes, show the statistically significant effects due to sex, to the socio-cultural environment, to the method of schooling through space at school and their interactions on children's performances

Full textThis thesis analyses two public preschool programs through an interpretive study based on both compensatory and community perspectives, in salvador-bahia. Building from phenomenologiccal and actionalist theory and inspired predominantly by interactionalism and ethnomethodology ; the research is carried out using an etnographic approach; specifically participant observation wich stresses the actor's point of view. The study deals with cases in which the construced problem shows above all the path of a continual heuristic inquiry deeply felt by the author. It describes and interprets the contraditory nature of the historical emergence of the two programs that are examined in detail and in act; bringing together the curriculum constructions and wider institutional and organizational levels, making an idiographic and multireferential analysis inevitable. In this way the author tries to understand the actions of the pedagogical actors who make up and give life to the curricula being instituted: the presupositions; mediating concepts and activities

Full textIn our modern society, we have observed a major interest given to the early childhood accordingly with the increasing value of its significance on the futur adult life. Pre school activities have increased, one of its goals, less or more expressed, being to enhance the adaptation at the nursery school. Given these reports, we status that the practice of an awakening aquatic activity promote the abilities to learn, already implemented in the family daily life during games. Our researches deal with comparative didactic. It aims to identify which kind of didactic abilities each child of our three work cases develops among his family, and then to estimate, by comparison, their adaptability within school environnement. We use the JATD concepts (Joint Action Theory in Didactics) and focus our analysis on the topogenesis in order to describe everyone role during playfull games (games with no learning purposes) that turn into didactic games. Our conlusion is that if the three families say they make the most of their child automony, each of them shows a didactic way of doing things and a different approach to the definitory and strategic rules of the didactic game. This leads the child to develop unequal abilities for the accomplishment of didactic game and abilities to accept the devolution of the issue. The three children then enter primary school with a different adequacy background. The utmost displays a balance developpement between two kinds of abilities, with a valorization of the abilities to accept the devolution of the issue

Full textThe thesis shows that the rituals activities set up every morning in nursery school build a steady and constant development milieu allowing th pupils to sep in different didactics contracts. The purpose was to investigate the role of ritual activities in the construction of didactical milieu at the nursery school. Their main role was to involve pupils into different didactical contracts. In these repeated situations, the didactics time goes on, the milieu move and the contracts evolves. Rituals makes time to produce new knowledge. In the first part, the concepts produced by the research on didactics were revisited to examin their pertinence in a nursery school. In the second part, results showed the importance of the setting up of the milieu and the effect of pupils in the milieu to put forward the didactic time. Finally, the third part entitled 'rituals as organisers of contractual factors" investigated how they put together distinct things and supported the idea that the didactic parts are functionally linked with the evolution of the contract and construction of the milieu, the school subject, the didactic time, the socialisation and the learning processes

Full textThe territorialization perceptible in French educational policies is clearly visble in their approach to schooling for two-year-olds. A look at the statistics involved reveals large discrepancies between regions. This situation begs a close study of the processes at work, of the reasoning behind the choices and actions of all the political, institutional and social instances behind the schooling of two-year-olds. An analysis of local policies in the departments of Eure and Seine-Saint-Denis and two of their towns, Vernon and Saint-Denis, shows that schooling for two-year-olds is seen in terms of territorialization. This flows from a double political will on the part of the State: to redistribute political powers from the national to the local levels and to fight against social inequalities which affect success at school by means of the choice, based on the notion of positive discrimination, of opening classes for two-year-olds in socially deprived areas. This policy is a stake in the new process of " deconcentralization " (dispersion of decisional powers and decentralization) defined as the political area in modern French society where room is given for communication, negotiation, contradiction and confrontation

Full textThe child who socializes gradually withdraws voluntarily and momentarily in kindergarten, at a distance or close to others, taking part in solitary, creative and self constructive activities considered as forms of isolation. The purpose of this study is to show the significance of isolation during the construction of the student’s autonomy. In order to elaborate the study of isolation as a phenomenon of the autonomy process, we first consult studies concerning solitude in philosophy and psychoanalysis. We then examine theories in developmental psychology and we construct our subject through an analysis of researches in social psychology. A historical review and an analysis of the goals of the kindergarten institution in official documents of the Ministry reveal a confusion of the educational missions as well as an emphasis on the social factor. The social reality of school’s isolated students is explored through the work of researchers in sociology of education. The relationship between the child’s voluntary isolation and the construction of its autonomy is specified using ethnography as a methodological tool and, in particular, through interviews and participant observation in schools in the Region of Paris. The analysis shows that teachers are in favor or against the isolation of students in their classrooms, which in the second case, is considered a psychological disorder or as a resistance against schooling. By isolating in the community, the child reveals to others their limitations, indicates its originality and its autonomy

Full textThe term "tutor-effect" has been coined to refer to the cognitive benefits the tutor her/himself gains from her/his tutoring activity. Till now, this effect has been studied with spatial tasks only : this raises the question of its generality. The three empirical studies presented here have two aims. The first is to establish this generality ; the second to investigate the specific role of verbal activity in the production of the effect. In the first perspective, categorization tasks have been used in a pre-test/training/post-test format to compare performances of contrasted groups of five-yeare-old-children. The tutoring group is consistently superior to the non tutoring groupes. As to the second aim, the comparison between a tutoring group and a group in which the child has just to describe verbally her/his representation shows a better performance of the first one, indicating that the simple "redescription" of one's representations is less efficient than the socio-cognitive activity of tutoring. The discussion refers to the role of socio-cognitive activities in generating metacognitive processes and promoting the child's cognitive development

This thesis aims to examine the link between the level of Self-Regulation [SR] skills in children and the quality of teacher-child interactions in five-year-old kindergarten classrooms. The SR skills of 32 children from nine 5-year-old kindergarten classes were observed and assessed in a natural classroom setting using the Self-Regulation Observation Scale (Montminy & Duval, 2019). The quality of the teacher-child interactions was assessed with the Classroom Assessment Scoring System [CLASS] (Pianta, La Paro, and Hamre, 2008). On one hand, preliminary results obtained with the observation tool created for this study contribute to the theoretical literature on the SR construct; SR must be looked at as whole and its components (emotional, behavioral and cognitive) are inseparable. Preliminary psychometric analyzes carried out also demonstrate its validity and fidelity. These results point out the relevance of observing SR in an educational setting. It indeed allows for information gathering on the child's SR abilities so as to support them later. On the other hand, links between the child’s SR skills (e.g. self-control) and certain dimensions of teacher-child interactions were found to be significant (e.g. positive climate). This study reveals thatteachers’ co-regulatory interactions must take into accountthe hierarchical development of SR, which entails modifying scaffolding strategies according to the child's level of emotional, behavioral and cognitive abilities. Furthermore, too much support of the child's SR skills would lean more towards external regulation thanco-regulation. These results are discussed in terms of their involvement in future research as well as in future practice.

Full textThis research started in Xalapa, in Veracruz, Mexico. Its objective is to improve the knowledge of parental participation and involvement in preschool education. One hundred and ninety-two parents, who had enrolled their child in one of the twenty-one participating kindergartens, were selected. The parents answered a questionnaire that we gave to them. With an exploratory analysis of the collected data, our objective was to understand not only differences but also the similarities between the parents and their involvement in the preschool environment; to identify the parent's way of participating and also their involvement; to discover the different activities in which the parents participated; to show the different elements that determine the parents implication in their child's preschool education; to evaluate the teachers role in the activities designed for the parents, and finally to determine the benefits for the child due to the parents participation. We analysed the answers from different perspectives: financial support for the kindergarten and their work schedule. Amongst the results found were that women's involvement is more important than the man's. The parent's past perception and their school experiences define their involvement in their child's preschool education. Finally, to have and maintain good relationship between family and the kindergarten is part of the day-to-day work of teachers and that is also a requirement for the parents

Full textThe city of Reggio Emilia, in the North of Italy, has been the scene of an unusual preschool experience since 1963. A real network of thirty-four municipal early childhood services (infant-toddlers centers and preschools) has been created over the years with the support of the municipality. This research attempts to really understand the reasons that explain its success all over the world. Supporting its educational originality, returning at its beginnings, introducing Loris Malaguzzi, its founder, who really marked his experience, analysing the behaviours of its actual actors in Italy and in the anglo-saxon world, presenting the Agorà, this organized parents-teachers association who was created by parents convinced by the advantages of the Reggio Approach, we tried in this thesis to go beyond the presentation of an unknown system in France to bring out a critical reflexion on an educational alternative which is a success on the four corners of the world

Full textTalking about one's own pedagogical practice reveals connections which are maintained to it so as its own assets. The investigation deals with discourse analysis about pedagogical practice in contemporary dance at school. The discourses are approached through semi-directing interviews whose purpose is to bring out school-teachers' biographical story - individual training path - and the way they meet and treat of the particular object they integrate to their pedagogical practice. Discourse analysis shows off these enquired teachers connection to knowledge : - relationship to cultural object and to its practice inside and outside school. - relationship to training and to the kind of connections brought by this object compared with others and practice. Among discourses rising from pedagogical experiences report to general and practice based reflections about education - its causes, its effects - teachers both analyse their own practice and school working. This whole investigation is full of research of consequences of the subjects' imagination activity. Imagination understood like mental structure tence between ideologic and utopic function, whose activity leads to extract oneself from habits to imagine other possible and/or desirable "make". This activity is based upon and develops itself through a set of processes coming under professional identity building, and spread out through the way of discussing the existing by facing matters of assets and meanings

Full textTo this day, in Quebec, it is estimated that one in every 115 children is diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) (Noiseux, 2011). Along with the current context of their steady increase, the number of those who are integrated into a regular classroom continues to grow. Given their distinct needs, schools tend to favor the presence of a Special Education Assistant (TES) in the regular classroom in order to support students in developing their autonomy and learning (SRSEAS, 2007). In despite of the initial objectives and the individual intervention of the TES, a review of the literature revealed adverse effects that may be associated with excessive student management, which may accentuate differences between peers and them. This paper presents the results of a descriptive study to illuminate the individual support practices of the special education technician when working with preschool students with ASD in order to gain a better understanding of these practices. The results also look at the effects of these practices on the evolution of the social interactions of the students targeted during a school year. These results provide specific guidance to school boards to promote the academic and social success of students with ASD integrated in the regular classroom.
Leon, Rose. "Étude comparée des systèmes éducatifs préélémentaires des pays de l’OECO (Sainte-Lucie, Saint-Kitts, Martinique) : politiques éducatives, enjeux linguistiques et culturels : quelle évaluation ?" Thesis, Antilles, 2019. http://www.theses.fr/2019ANTI0598.
Full textEarly childhood education had never occupied an important place in the education systems of the OECO islands as compared to other levels of education. In cases like St. Lucia, the absence of viable education policies to guide this level of education results in a high percentage of young children not accessing early childhood education, consequently not receiving the necessary stimulation to prepare for formal education. In 2013, in an effort to respond to the demands of the population for greater investment in early childhood education, the Ministry of Education in St. Lucia, in collaboration with the Early Childhood Department, launched a programme committing themselves to improving the quality of pre-elementary education in the country. However, what are the limits of this commitment if it is not reflected in the Education Act? On the other hand, St. Kitts seems to have effectively organised the education of their young children, which enables them to boast of tremendous success. However, as far as it applies to all countries in a more global context, the thrust is on making education accessible to all.One of the objectives of the World Bank towards alleviating poverty in the world, is ensuring education for all before the year 2015. It entails making primary education compulsory. The English-speaking islands of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States, having accomplished this objective long before the promulgation by the World Bank, decided to concentrate on secondary education during the last decade.Regardless of the positive or the negative consequences, they pronounce that this objective has been accomplished. In light of this, they have focused on pre-elementary education, but how do they project into the future? A survey carried out in St. Lucia in 2013, as a preliminary stage of this research, revealed a preelementary programme without structure, generally governed by local entrepreneurs. Added to this, the creolisation of these countries plays an important role in the education of the young. In fact, a child is nurtured in a particular cultural context through which he learns to express himself. All these considerations are necessary in this thrust towards education for all. Simultaneously, the French Antilles, members of the European Union and recent associate members of the Organisation of Caribbean States (OECO), are subject to a dual challenge: the European educational standards and the eagerness to take into consideration the cultural and linguistic specificities in a Caribbean context. In effect, the integration of Martinique in the OECO gives an opportunity to compare pre-elementary education policies in order to evaluate the possibilities of working on common ground

Full textThe point of this research is to bring to the fore meaningful common points between the evolution of the innovative spirit of protestant pietism and the pedagogical processes proposed by the precursors of the preschool education in the 18 th an 19 th centuries. The first part is an analysis of the historical evolution of pietism, enriched by the theological inheritance of the ancient Moravian brothers. A study a the local level (Ban de la Roche in Alsace) of the establishment and the progression of the pietist ideas in the service of an original educational system is proposed afterwards. It is followed by the analysis of the pedagogical ideas and of the development of pre-schools in France, Switzerland, Germany and England. This system of the "poêles à tricoter" established by minister Oberlin leads to the definition of the concept of the "petite école dans l'école", a transposition in the educational field of the theological model of the "ecclesiola in ecclesia". The french nursery school finds an original place at last influenced by the republican ideal and the pietist way of thinking. She is still the "petite école dans l'école", a privileged place for the educational woman. The fourth part proposes an analysis of the mechanisms which allow the integration of evangelical values within this new and non-religious institution

Full textThis actionresearch consists in designing, implementing and evaluating the continuous teacher education programme 'Ecole multilingue'. The programme is aimed at preschool and primary school teachers and concerns the pedagogy of multilingualism. During the programme, video excerpts showing language learning practices at school were studied, multilingual projects were designed and implemented in the classes of the participants and discussions and exchanges took place within ten monthly meetings. The research questions are the following: What is the professional development that is realised throughout the programme? What are the characteristics of the programme that have afforded this development? The research positions itself within the framework of socioconstructivist and sociocultural theories. The chosen methodology draws upon thematic analysis, grounded theory, analysis of interactions and analysis of practice. It implies the collection of different types of data: questionnaire, videotapes and transcriptions of the training meetings, logbook of the trainerresearcher, videotapes and descriptions of innovative practices. During the research process, description and analysis grids are used and designed, and research results are cut across. A reflexion about the double role of a trainer and a researcher is developed. The analysis reveals the representations about language learning, multilingual practices and institutional context, as well as the ways of analysing pupils' learning processes, coconstructed by the participants. It characterises the innovative multilingual practices that the participants have developed in their classes, and it shows the process of accompanyingchallenging by the trainer. It furthermore brings out the ways in which the different elements of the programme have contributed to the teachers' development. It finally may inform a prospective, improved training programme

Full textAt the time of the proclamation of the child as a separate actor, the educational and social project of the French nursery school reflects the political hope put on the children. The school wants to adapt the child to the "school shape" even before he or she has reached the age of compulsory education. He continues then to be considered as dependent on the project of the School and subjected to expectations from diverse educational institutions. This thesis is relies on literature by historians of education, on sources related to the knowledge of children and the historical evolution of their relevance in society, on works of childhood sociologists and institutional analysis. In order to methodologically bring together these concepts and theoretical framework, this study has an ethnographic orientation, including individual interviews with students and teachers, drawing made by the students while being interviewed, and observations made in several nurseries in Paris and its suburbs. The discourse of teachers reveals a paradoxical order experienced as constant tension by some students. The implementation of the school shape in nursery school seems to be more and more directed towards scholastic skills instead of towards the singular consideration of the children. Nevertheless, we note that their life is organized by a dialectic between dependence and relative independence. Subjected to the adult power, they can take the control of the situation, act, react. Along with the autonomy granted by the adults, the children conquer and create their own space of autonomy, according to their own interests. The stakes of this thesis is to bring this lighting

Full textWe put the educational proposals of A. De la Garanderie to the experience test with subject aged between 4 and 27. Training towards the evocation of reality led to good achievements. However, when activites of attention and memorization are left, to "enter" comprehension and reflection, pupils tend to have difficulties in investing themselves in the task. Why? What do some people lack to be able positively to use methodological propositions which are made to them? It seems that the imagination must be freed in order for the subject to be able to evoke and that specific imagination structures must be released in order for the for the subject to be able to anticipate. For a subject to be able to invest himself in complex mental operations. He must anticipate their later use. This is the anticipation activite which requires a liberated imagination

Full textAs she was nominated supervisor of the first "salle d'asile" in La Flèche (72) in 1834, Marie Pape-Carpantier (1815-1878) has devoted her engagement to the education of the early childhood for forty years. To bring her action to a successful conclusion, she leaves her native province to take part in the foundation of the first "Ecole normale maternelle" in Paris in 1847. As it was named the "Cours pratique", this space became propitious to the innovation and the formation of the natural method and its spearhead : the objects lesson. By dramatizing it, Marie Pape-Carpantier thinks it will carry knowledge and morals. But, Marie Pape-Carpantier, known for her courses and conferences, is also the one who expresses an opinion both philosophical and theological. According to her, as it may use adapted means and as it follows the natural laws conceived by the Creator, education is a rational relation, initiated by the mother, for the benefit of morals, reason and conscience of her child

Full textAsthma in preschool children (5 years or younger) is characterized by severe and frequent exacerbations, leading to high rates of emergency department visits and hospital admissions. Teaching parents the early management of asthma exacerbations at home might reduce healthcare use. Serious games, because they allow active and experiential learning, represent an interesting way to train parents on the management of asthma exacerbations. The objective of this PhD thesis was to design and develop a serious game to teach parents of preschool children the management of asthma exacerbations starting at home. We conducted a systematic review of serious games for asthma education which revealed that no serious game had been developed for parents. Yet, we showed using questionnaires that parents were ready to use serious games for their education. Parents’ behavior during asthma exacerbations of their children were observed during a simulation study using a pediatric high-fidelity manikin, and analyzed to establish the educational objectives and the content of the serious game. Another study compared two different strategies (repeating the same scenario three times or using three different scenarios of asthma exacerbations) to teach the management of asthma exacerbations in a short, 30-minutes training. Altogether, these results combined with those of the literature allowed the development of the simulation game “Effic’Asthme” following an evidence-based approach. The usefulness of “Effic’Asthme” will be evaluated through a multicentric randomized controlled study
