Abstract:
In the past 10 years, state financial support for public universities has declined, when measured as a proportion of current-fund revenues. Whether in response to this decline or to satisfy other ends such as personal utility and prestige enhancement, universities and their faculty have sought alternative sources of revenue, mostly through increased research grants and contracts and student tuition and fees. The effects of these revenue changes are observed in the primary operating units of universities, academic departments, which serve as the primary focus of this study. These changes have p

<p> The Chief Research Administrator (CRA), also known as the Vice President, Vice Provost, or Vice Chancellor for Research, plays a key role in the research university. It is a position of power and not only affects the mission of the institution, but also controls a very large and vital percentage of external funding. The lack of information on how to prepare for the position makes it difficult to plan a career path for those who aspire to the position. This study was designed to obtain information to define the persona and career path(s) of the CRA at research universities in the United Sta

Abstract:
The benefits of high self-efficacy beliefs for student learning is something that is widely acknowledged and supported within educational circles. High self-efficacy beliefs are known to help students set challenging goals, maintain commitment to their goals and persevere in the face of adversity. Hence, having high self-efficacy beliefs is often seen as the preferred state of being for students, resulting in copious amounts of research into how educators can help foster high self-efficacy beliefs. Attrition rates have remained at the breadth of significant concerns for higher education institutions. During the progression toward a graduate degree, countless students lose focus and “stop-out.” An unsuccessful practice in higher education is the lack of concentrated initiatives to retain graduate students and assist in providing resources to support persistence. Alas, graduate students are abandoned and forced to navigate programs in isolation. Therefore, this study examined the problem of persistence of students in graduate programs and the extent to which variation in such persistence m
