Internet “platforms” like Facebook and YouTube often avoid accountability and regulation by claiming that they are mere software infrastructures with little oversight over their users. Scholars in media and communication studies have shown that these platform companies’ control over interface and algorithm design gives them a disproportionately large power, compared to their users, to fundamentally reshape politically salient categories like the “social” or the “innovative.” This article argues that this power of platforms stems from their ability to shape organizational roles and the division

More precisely, we consider three platforms: the risk-sharing, insurance and market platform. First, we show that under a non-discriminatory insurance assumption, it is optimal for everybody to equally share all risk in the market. This gives rise to a new concept of a contingent premium which collects the premia ex-post after the losses are realised.

Since late 2012, there has been conversation about the overlap between the LMS and MOOC platform markets. While most of the edtech community continues to focus on the major MOOC platforms (e.g.: Coursera and EdX), each of the major LMS makers now has a solution for teaching MOOCs as well. For example, Blackboard's Course Sites has offered "open enrollment" courses since April 2012, the very month Coursera was founded, although the organization's official press didn't mention the acronym "MOOC" until early/mid 2013. Moodle held a MOOC on their LMS MOOC platform called Learn Moodle on September

Abstract:
Use of visual methods plays a significant role in learning. ICT allow us to create electronic educational resources in a new format and with new opportunities. The study of their didactic possibilities, forms and methods of their application is a topical issue. Simulation, virtualization, gamification requires new knowledge about their application, and therefore, the problem of training future teachers to use them is an urgent and important part of training. In this article modern achievements in the use of serious games in education were investigated and analyzed, the possibilities of using v

Contributed Chapter for Peter B. Dixon and Dale W. Jorgenson (eds.) This chapter provides an overview of the first two decades of the Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) – an effort to support a standardized data base and CGE modeling platform for international economic analysis. It characterizes GTAP in four different dimensions: institutional innovation, a network, a database and a standardized modeling platform. Guiding principles for the GTAP modeling framework include flexibility, ease of use, transparency, and symmetric treatment of production and utility fundamentals across regions. Th

This paper develops and operationalizes the Integrated Economic-Environmental Modelling (IEEM) platform which integrates environmental data organized under the first international standard for environmental-economic accounting with a powerful economy-wide modelling approach. IEEM enables the ex-ante economic analysis of public policies and investment on the economy and the environment in a quantitative, comprehensive and consistent framework. IEEM elucidates the two-way interrelationships between the economy and environment, considering how economic activities depend on the environment as a so

This research report applies the Attitudes-Behaviors Corrective (ABC) Model of Violent Extremism to map personal journeys in and out of al-Shabaab, the al-Qaeda affiliate operating in Somalia and the wider Horn of Africa. The ABC Model provides a framework through which to analyze individual trajectories in relation to sympathy for and actual involvement in violent extremism. The study was designed to deliver key insights for policy and practice by revealing the extent to which these journeys vary between respondents. The ABC Model was also designed as a platform through which to explore drive

This collection of data comprises new XRF data, TOC data, and a new table of formation tops for the lower portion of the Devonian clastic wedge (Weatherall, Cape de Bray and Blackley formations sensu Embry and Klovan, 1976) and the underlying basinal and carbonate-platform strata of variable Ordovician to Lower-Middle Devonian age. Main results include ED-XRF data for 15 well sections within the N.W.T. jurisdiction of the SW Arctic Archipelago. These XRF data were obtained in 2018- 2020 through non-destructive measurements of drillhole cutting samples using a Bruker Tracer IV instrument. Testi
