Abstract:
Why would a person who is terrified of cockroaches use them in a math lesson? The idea for this investigation did not occur to me until I read a newspaper article that described Italian scientist Paolo Domenici's research about cockroaches' escape trajectories. In particular, he found that cockroaches have preferred escape trajectories of 90, 120, 150, and 180 degrees from the source of danger (Domenici et al. 2008). Because this real-world information presents a unique problem-solving context for fifth graders to explore angles formed by clockwise and counterclockwise rotations, I overcame my fear of the creatures to develop this investigation.

Abstract:
The usage of doxorubicin (DOX) as an anticancer drug in cancer patient may cause several side effects. One of that is cardiotoxicity by inducing the expression of nitric oxide synthase which may release nitric oxide (NO) resulting reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the cardiac. DOX needs to be combined with antioxidant since it could supressed ROS in the cardiac and reduce cardiomyopathy. Kelor (Moringa oleifera) is known as the source of antioxidant. This study aim to observe the treatment effects of ethanolic extract of kelor (EEK) on histopathology profile and concentration of NO in rats cardiac. The result from the hematoxylin-eosin staining showed that EEK improved the histopathology profile of rats’ cardiac. Compared with the DOX-only treatment, the structure of cardiac muscle cells treated by ethanolic extract of kelor is more well-arranged and the cells’ nucleus still visible. Concentration of NO was measured by cardiac puncture method. The result showed that the concentration of NO was decrease in line with increasing dose levels of EEK in combination with DOX. But at rats only given with EEK, the concentration of NO is quite high. In conclusion, EEK could be a cochemotherapy agent by reducing the cardiotoxicity effect of DOX.Keywords : doxorubicin, Moringa oleifera, nitric oxyde, histopathology

Kendala utama yang dihadapi dalam upaya pencarian bahan baku lokal sumber protein alternatif untuk mendapatkan pakan yang ekonomis dan efisien antara lain kualitas bahannya yang tidak sebaik tepung ikan dan tepung bungkil kedelai impor. Enzim protease, amylase, dan selulase bermanfaat untuk meningkatkan kecernaan bahan baku yang mengandung protein kompleks, karbohidrat, dan serat yang tinggi. Cairan rumen ternak domba telah dideteksi banyak mengandung enzim yang dapat membantu meningkatkan kecernaan bahan baku nabati. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memanfaatkan sumber enzim alamiah yang murah dan tersedia cukup banyak di Indonesia, yaitu cairan rumen domba, untuk menghidrolisis bahan baku tepung bungkil kedelai lokal (TBKL). Penelitian ini terdiri atas dua tahap yaitu in vitro dan in vivo. Penelitian in vitro bertujuan mengevaluasi kadar produk hidrolisis yang dihasilkan setelah TBKL diinkubasi dengan ekstrak enzim kasar dari cairan rumen domba (EEK CRD) dengan dosis 0, 200, 400, 600, dan 800 mL/kg TBKL, dan hasilnya adalah bahwa kadar total gula dan protein terlarut pada TBKL terhidrolisis meningkat apabila konsentrasi EEK CRD bertambah. Penelitian in vivo bertujuan menguji pemakaian TBKL yang telah dihidrolisis dengan dosis yang terpilih (dosis 800 mL EEK CRD/kg TBKL) dalam formulasi pakan ikan nila dengan 5 perlakuan dan 3 ulangan. Ikan uji adalah nila berukuran rata-rata 2,48 ± 0,0183 g per ekor, dan dipelihara di 15 akuarium berukuran 50 cm x 60 cm x 50 cm yang diisi masing-masing 10 ekor selama 40 hari percobaan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan TBKL terhidrolisis dalam formulasi pakan menghasilkan peningkatan signifikan (P<0,05) pada parameter efisiensi pakan dibandingkan pakan kontrolnya, tetapi tidak signifikan (P>0,05) untuk parameter laju pertumbuhan, konsumsi pakan, retensi protein, dan retensi lemak. Tidak ada perbedaan signifikan (P>0,05) untuk tingkat sintasan di antara kelima perlakuan. EEK CRD dapat meningkatkan efisiensi pemanfaatan pakan melalui predigestion terhadap nutrien protein kompleks dan karbohidrat dalam suatu bahan.

INTISARI Penelitian sebelumnya membuktikan bahwa infus rambut dan jus biji jagung memiliki efek antihipertensi pada tikus jantan sehingga dapat dikembangkan dalam bentuk ekstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuktikan efek antihipertensi ekstrak etanol kombinasi rambut dan biji jagung (EEK-RBJ) pada tikus hipertensi yang diinduksi monosodium glutamat (MSG). EEK-RBJ dibuat menggunakan metode maserasi. Tikus hipertensi dibuat dengan cara pemberian MSG 100 mg/kgBB/hari selama 14 hari sampai tekanan darah sistol ≥ 155 mmHg. Tikus hipertensi yang digunakan sebanyak 25 ekor, dibagi menjadi 5 kelompok yaitu kelompok kontrol hipertensi (CMC-Na 0,5% 12,5 mL/kgBB/hari), kelompok furosemid 5,04 mg/kgBB/hari), dan kelompok EEK-RBJ (125, 250 dan 500) mg/kgBB/hari. Sediaan uji diberikan satu kali sehari selama 14 hari (p.o). Data yang diamati adalah perbedaan tekanan darah sistol dan diastol sebelum dan setelah pemberian sediaan uji serta perbedaan penurunan tekanan darah. Data perbedaan tekana darah dianalisa secara statistik menggunakan uji t-berpasangan atau uji Wilcoxon (P: 0,95). Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa EEK-RBJ (125, 250 dan 500) mg/Kg BB/hari selama 14 hari mampu menurunkan tekanan darah sistol dan diastol tikus hipertensi dengan pola tergantung dosis. EEK-RBJ 500 mg/Kg BB/hari dapat menurunkan tekanan darah sistol dan diastol tikus hipertensi yang diinduksi MSG berturut-turut sebesar 20,04 mmHg dan 13,16 mmHg. Kata Kunci: Efek antihipertensi, ekstrak kombinasi, rambut dan biji jagung, MSG ABSTRACT In previous studies, infusion of silk and corn seed combination have antihypertensive effects, so it can develop in the form of extracts. The purpose of this study is to reveal the antihypertensive effect of a silk and seed corn ethanol extract (SSC-EE) on MSG-induced hypertensive rats. SSC-EE produced with maceration. MSG 100 mg/kg BW/day for 14 days orally used to induce hypertension condition in male Wistar rats until systolic blood pressure ≥ 150 mmHg. Twenty-five of hypertensive rats divided into five groups. Hypertensive rats in Group I treated with CMC-Na 0.5% 12.5 mL/kg BW/day and group II treated with Furosemide 5.04 mg/kg BW/day. Meanwhile, group III, IV and V treated with SSC-EE (125, 250 and 500) mg/kg BW/day. SSC-EE was treated orally once daily for 14 days. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure, before and after of extracts treatment and blood pressure decline was observed and analyzed statistically using paired t-test or Wilcoxon test (P: 0.95). The results show that SSC-EE (125, 250 and 500) mg/Kg BW/day for 14 days can decrease the MSG-induced hypertensive rats systolic and diastolic blood pressure (p<0.05) with the dose-dependent manner. SSC-EE 500 mg/Kg BW/day decrease the systolic and diastolic blood pressure of 20.04 mmHg and 13.16 mmHg, respectively. Keywords: Antihypertensive effect, combination extract, silk and seed corn, MSG

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis perbedaan prestasi bela- jar kimia dengan kondisi sosio emosional yang mencipkatan suatu kondisi yang belajar yang baik,efektif serta efisien: (1) antara siswa yang mengikuti model pembelajaran berbasis masalah dan pembelajaran eksplorasi, elaborasi, konfirmasi (EEK), (2) terhadap pengaruh interaksi model pembelajaran dengan gaya kognitif, (3) antara siswa yang mengikuti model pembela- jaran berbasis masalah dan pembelajaran EEK pada siswa yang memiliki gaya kognitif field independent, dan (4) antara siswa yang mengikuti model pembelajaran berbasis masalah dan EEK pada siswa yang memiliki gaya kognitif field dependent. Penelitian ini merupakan kuasi eksperimen dengan rancangan faktorial 2x2 posttest only control group design. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X Madrasah Aliyah Walisongo Jepara tahun pela- jaran 2013/2014. Pengambilan kelas penelitian berdasarkan teknik intake kelas. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan statistik deskriptif dan Anova dua jalur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan (1) perbedaan signifikan terhadap variable prestasi belajar kimia dan kondisi sosio emosional siswa se- cara bersama-sama (F=2,944; p0,05). Artinya, prestasi belajar kimia dan kondisi sosio emosional siswa bersama-sama menunjukkan perbedaan signifikan antara model pembelajaran; (2) interaksi antara model pembela- jaran dan gaya kognitif secara bersama terhadap prestasi belajar kimia dan kondisi sosio emosional siswa (F=47,456; p0,05); (3) perbedaan signifikan variabel model pembelajaran terhadap prestasi belajar kimia dan kondisi sosio emosional siswa untuk siswa yang bergaya kognitif field independent (F=34,337; p0,05); (4) perbedaan signifikan variabel model pembelajaran terhadap prestasi belajar kimia dan kondisi sosio emosional siswa untuk siswa yang memiliki gaya kognitif field dependent (F=17,912; p0,05).

Abstract:
This study analyzes the framing processes of the Indignados movement in Barcelona, as an exemplar of the latest wave of protests, and argues that it expresses a new ecological-economic way out of the crisis. It finds that the movement was not just a reaction to the economic crisis and austerity policies, but that it put forward a metapolitical critique of the social imaginary and (neo)liberal representative democracy. The diagnostic frames of the movement denunciate the subjugation of politics and justice to economics, and reject the logic of economism. The prognostic frames of the movement advance a vision of socio-ecological sustainability and of "real democracy", each articulated differently by a "pragmatist" and an "autonomist" faction within the movement. It argues that frames are overarching outer boundaries that accommodate different ideologies. Ideologies can nevertheless also be put into question by antagonizing frames. Furthermore, through the lens of the Indignados critique, the distinction between materialist and post-materialist values that characterizes the New Social Movement literature is criticised, as "real democracy" is connected to social and environmental justice as well as to a critique of economism and the "imperial mode of living".

Abstract:
The local level has gained prominence in climate policy and governance in recent years as it is increasingly perceived as a privileged arena for policy experimentation and social and institutional innovation. However, the success of local climate governance in industrialized countries has been limited. One reason may be that local communities focus too much on strategies of technology-oriented ecological modernization and individual behavior change and too little on strategies that target unsustainable social practices and their embeddedness in complex socioeconomic patterns. In this paper we assess and compare the strategies of "low-carbon municipalities" (top-down initiatives) and those of "intentional communities" (bottom-up initiatives). We were interested to determine to what extent and in which ways each community type intervenes in social practices to curb carbon emissions and to explore the scope for further and deeper interventions on the local level. Using an analytical framework based on social practice theory we identify characteristic patterns of intervention for each community type. We find that low-carbon municipalities face difficulties in transforming carbon-intensive social practices. While offering some additional low-carbon choices, their ability to reduce carbon-intensive practices is very limited. Their focus on efficiency and individual choice shows little transformative potential. Intentional communities, by contrast, have more institutional and organizational options to intervene in the web of social practices. Finally, we explore to what extent low-carbon municipalities can learn from intentional communities and propose strategies of hybridization for policy innovation to combine the strengths of both models.

Abstract:
AbstractRats are often despised. In what way does such aversion affect moral deliberation, and if so, how should we accommodate any distorting effects on our normative judgements? These questions are explored in this chapter with regard to recent proposals in (1) the ethics of pest management and (2) animal political theory. While ethical frameworks and tools used in the context of animal research can improve moral deliberation with regard to pest management, we argue based on psychological factors regarding the perception of rats that before implementing these methods in either animal research or pest management, one needs to ascertain that rats are owed genuine moral consideration. With regard to animal political theory, we identify three issues: truth-aptness, perception, and moral motivation. To complement as well as address some of the issues found in both animal research ethics and animal political theory, we explore compassion. Starting from compassion, we develop a pragmatist and interspecies understanding of morality, including a shift from an anthropocentric to a multispecies epistemology, and a distributed rather than an individual notion of moral agency. We need to engage with the experience of others, including rats and those who perceive these animals as pests, as well as pay attention to the specific way individual agents are embedded in particular socio-ecological settings so as to promote compassionate action.

O desenvolvimento da síndrome de Burnout em profissionais que atuam na área da saúde é uma realidade. Em pesquisas realizadas no Brasil, com profissionais da área da saúde, há o risco maior da síndrome de Burnout em mulheres, assim como os que trabalham em Unidades de Cuidados Intensivos e de Urgência, e, também, entre médicos, enfermeiros e técnicos de enfermagem, sendo estes dois últimos os mais susceptíveis de desenvolver o Burnout. Também, encontraram sintomas físicos relatados pelos trabalhadores que apresentaram sinais da Síndrome de Burnout. Objetivos: o objetivo primário deste é analisar a relação entre os sintomas psicossomáticos e o Burnout em profissionais da saúde e os objetivos secundários: avaliar o índice de Burnout e identificar as manifestações psicossomáticas em profissionais da área da saúde. Método: A fim de responder ao primeiro objetivo secundário, realizou-se uma coleta de dados empírica. Os participantes eram profissionais de ambos os sexos, de diversas áreas e cargos, de três (03) hospitais públicos localizados no Estado de Goiás. Assim, a amostra foi composta de 401 (quatrocentos e um) participantes. Utilizou-se como materiais e instrumento de medidas o Maslach Burnout Inventory-(MBI-GS). Para responder ao segundo objetivo secundário utilizou-se um questionário semiestruturado para avaliar os sintomas psicossomáticos. Por fim, realizou-se a correlação de Pearson para identificar a relação entre os sintomas psicossomáticos e as dimensões do Burnout. Resultados: A média da Síndrome de Burnout encontrada foi: EE (2,3), CI (0,76) e ET (5,3), demonstrando moderada exaustão emocional e alta eficácia no trabalho. A maioria dos participantes do estudo foram enfermeiros e técnicos de enfermagem (13,8%), auxiliares administrativos (13,5%), profissionais de fisioterapia (13,3%) e recepcionistas (8,9%). A correlação entre cinismo e eficácia, de acordo com o r de Pearson, foi de 0,480, ou seja, uma correlação moderada. Os sintomas psicossomáticos mais frequentes identificados nessa amostra de profissionais da saúde foram: dores nas costas, cansaço físico, estresse, cansaço mental, impaciência e dor de cabeça, e os sintomas apresentaram correlação positiva moderada com a dimensão de Exaustão Emocional (EE) de Burnout. Os sintomas de indisposição ou desanimo, cansaço físico e cansaço mental obtiveram correlação com as cinco primeiras variáveis de EE. Os sintomas de impaciência e estresse obtiveram correlação com as variáveis: EE1, EE2, EE3, EE5. Os sintomas de instabilidade emocional e angústia tiveram correlação com as variáveis EE1 e EE3, e, por fim, o sintoma distúrbio do sono obteve correlação com a variável EE1. Conclusões: Conclui-se que o índice de Burnout nessa amostra é moderado na dimensão exaustão emocional, e que se encontrou correlação desta dimensão com sintomas psicossomáticos.

Vibrations that arise during the slip phase of the clutch in the driveline of a motor vehicle yield to poor ride quality and result in discomfort and noise. The control systems in modern automated manual transmission systems couldn’t provide good improvement of vehicle longitudinal dynamics during gearshifts without a deep knowledge of the driveline model and its stiffness and damping parameters, along with the frictional conjunction between its main subparts. In this paper an original 5-degree of freedom mathematical model of the dry clutch mechanism is presented with the intention of studying the excitation in a passenger car driveline of torsional vibration by frictional actions during the slip phase of the engagement. Furthermore, the analysis aims to deepen about the coupling between pressure plate wobbling and torsional motions in order to improve the current understanding of the excitation mechanisms in the frequency region of the so-called “eek noise”, 250–500 Hz. The results of this work substantiate that enhancing of torsional motion in the characteristic frequency range of the “eek sound” occurs even regardless of the rigid wobbling motion of the pressure plate and underline the need to include the non-linear characteristic of the clutch cushion spring in the simulation of such a phenomenon.

A novel approach to the calculation of the cost of crude oil distillation products is proposed in this paper. The approach is based on the primary exergy “invested” in the entire process, from extraction to final dispatch, in a well-to-final use perspective including all externalities: capital, labor and environmental remediation cost. The method follows the Extended Exergy Accounting (EEA) theory, and results in a quantifier, the specific extended exergy cost eec, expressed in Joules of primary exergy globally used in the process per Joule of final product. This indicator is not meant to substitute the monetary cost currently adopted in all transactions, but rather to complement it by providing designers, industry managers and energy policy planners with a thermodynamically-sound basis for assessing how far a certain productive chain is from being “sustainable” in terms of primary resources. Several different processes are analyzed, and the quantitative differences in the final eec are calculated and discussed. The conclusions contain some suggestions for a general reassessment of our approach to the exploitation of primary energy resources.

A hordozható, könnyen használható elektroencefalográfok (EEG) segítségével a kognitív folyamatokat úgy vizsgálhatjuk, hogy a természetes viselkedést alig befolyásoljuk. A hajas fejbőrön mért idegi aktivitás mikrovoltos nagyságrendű, emiatt az izomaktivitásból, szemmozgásból származó műtermékektől meg kell tisztítani. Ezeknek a műtermékeknek a tökéletes eltávolítására még nincs megfelelő megoldás, emiatt az EEG-t főleg olyan feladatokhoz érdemes használni, amelyek nem járnak sok izomaktivitással. E kötöttség ellenére a pedagógia számos területén sikeresen alkalmazták már az EEG-t. A különböző feladatok alatt mért agyi aktivitásokból a feladatok alatti figyelemre, kognitív terhelésre és a feladatmegoldási stratégiákra tudtak következtetni. Sajátos nevelési igényű gyerekeknél neurofeedback módszerrel segítik az önreguláció és a megfelelő viselkedés kialakítását. Különböző személyek agyi aktivitásának szinkronizációja pedig a szociális közelséggel és az információ átadás sikerével van kapcsolatban. Ezek az alkalmazások az EEG spektrális jellemzőinek követésén alapulnak. Fourier transzformációval az EEG jelet különböző frekvenciájú összetevőire bontják, és meghatározzák az egyes frekvenciák arányát a teljes aktivitásban. A humán hajas fejbőrről az α tartomány nagy biztonsággal regisztrálható. Habár ezt a hullámot az inaktivitással hozzák kapcsolatba leginkább, az irányított figyelem kialakításában is kulcsfontosságú szerepe van, a feladat szempontjából zavaró információt α aktivitás segítségével nyomjuk el. Kísérleteimben a különböző feladatok alatt az egyes elektródákkal regisztrált α aktivitás mértéke karakterisztikus mintázatot mutatott. Az α aktivitás legmagasabb occipitálisan volt relaxáció alatt, a kognitív terheléssel pedig csökkent, főleg frontálisan. Ez az aktivitási mintázat nem mindenkire volt jellemző, néhány résztvevőnél a relaxáció alatti α aktivitás növekedés még occipitálisan sem volt regisztrálható. Emiatt az EEG adatok interpretációjához az egyéni jellegzetességek felderítése elengedhetetlen. Az eddigi eredmények alapján az EEG pedagógiai alkalmazása ígéretesnek tűnik, érdemes alkalmazási spektrumát bővíteni a pedagógiai kutatási programokban. ----- Portable, inexpensive, and easy-to-use electroencephalography (EEG) devices allow the examination of cognitive processes without a dramatic interference with normal ongoing behaviors. The scalp EEG signal amplitude is in the microvolts range and it is easily contaminated with different artifacts, such as ocular or muscle activities. Artifact removal has not been resolved satisfactory, therefore the use of EEG devices is limited to activities requiring minimal muscle activity. Despite this limitation several areas of pedagogy have already benefited from EEG measurements. Brain activities during different tasks provided information about engagement, mental workload, and cognitive strategies. Training in neurofeedback helped children with Special Educational Needs to maintain self-regulation and controll skills. Brain-to-brain synchrony measurements predicted the efficiency of information transfer, and showed social connectedness. These applications use the spectral analysis of the EEG signal. Fourier analysis decomposes the EEG into different sine waves and estimates the spectral power (which is proportional to the number of active neurons) at each frequency. From the human scalp α wave can be recorded the most reliably. Although this activity is mainly associated with iddleness, it is also important to maintain focus by blocking unwanted sensory processes. In our experiments α power showed characteristic differences among tasks. It was the highest occipitally during relaxation and it decreased especially frontally with cognitive engagement. Tasks requiring similar mental activity showed similar α power distribution. Individuals might showed EEG activity with distinct characteristics, forexample some participants did not have increased α power during relaxation. Therefore the reliable interpretation of EEG requires the consideration of individual differences as well. In conclusion, application of EEG in pedagogy is promising, and it is worth considering its incorporation into educational research programs.

Turbine blade surface is cooled by jet flow from extended exit holes (EEH). Cooling effectiveness is defined as temperature difference (TD) between the hot gas flow and the blade surface as a fraction of temperature difference between the hot gas flow and the coolant flow through EEH. Computational research using a commercial code has been done to predict performance of EEH for different design and operating conditions. Effectiveness has been determined over the blade surface when geometric conditions such as: angle between EEH and blade surface, location of EEH on the blade surface and exit-to-throat area ratio of EEH. Predicted effectiveness distributions agree well with available experimental results, confirming usefulness and advantage of computational approach to optimizing turbine blade cooling with EEH.

In this work, we model electroencephalography (EEG) signals as the stochastic output of a double Duffing - van der Pol oscillator networks. We develop a novel optimization scheme to match data generated from the model with clinically obtained EEG data from subjects under resting eyes-open (EO) and eyes-closed (EC) conditions and derive models with outputs that show very good agreement with EEG signals in terms of both frequency and information contents. The results, reinforced by statistical analysis, shows that the EEG recordings under EC and EO resting conditions are distinct realizations of the same underlying model occurring due to parameter variations. Furthermore, the EC and EO EEG signals each exhibit distinct nonlinear dynamic characteristics. In summary, it is established that the stochastic coupled nonlinear oscillator network can provide a useful framework for modeling and analysis of EEG signals that are recorded under variety of conditions.

The misdiagnosis rate of epilepsy is said to keep high from 5% to 30% because of dependency upon an individual judgment by each medical doctor in diagnosis and a quantitative index seems necessary to manage diagnosis uncertainty. To detect some change appearing in brain waves, we focus on introducing a Duffing oscillator model, which could provide reasonably good predictions for the dynamics of neuronal groups. The aim of this paper is to discuss indexes for epilepsy diagnosis by representing characteristics of electroencephalogram (EEG) quantitatively using a Duffing oscillator model. The model parameters are directly identified to adapt the characteristics of the temporal EEG variation to dynamical properties of the model quantitatively. Therefore, in animal experiments, we obtained time histories of the EEG data changed from normal EEG to the epileptic EEG. As a result, it is found that the parameter values related to non-linearity are extremely reduced as the epileptic EEG progresses with time. On the other hand, the input signal strength in epileptic EEG is much bigger than that of normal as expected. Moreover, the directly identified exciting frequency and the eigenfrequency determined by the identified parameter exist in wider band than that of normal as the epileptic EEG progresses with time. The change of the EEG due to epileptic seizure could reflect on the model parameters and it is shown that the model parameters have the possibility to use as supporting index of diagnosis about epilepsy. As a result, the proposed method could be used to support the decline of misdiagnosis rate of epilepsy.

The nonlinear analysis may help to reveal the complex behavior of the Electroencephalogram (EEG) signal. In order to analyze the EEG in real time, we have proposed an EEG analysis model using a nonlinear oscillator with one degree of freedom and minimum required parameters. Our method identifies EEG model parameters experimentally. The purpose of this study is to examine the specific characteristic of model parameters. Validation of the method and investigation of characteristic of model parameters were conducted based on alpha frequency EEG data in both relax state and stress state. The results of the parameter identification with the time sliding window for 1 second show almost all of the identified parameters have a normal distribution spread around the average. The model outputs can closely match the complicated experimental EEG data. The results also showed that the existence of nonlinear term in the EEG analysis is crucial and the linearity parameter shows a certain tendency as the nonlinearity increases. Furthermore, the activities of EEG become linear on the mathematical model when suddenly change from the relax state to the stress state. The results indicate that our method may provide useful information in various field including the quantification of human mental or psychological state, diagnosis of brain disease such as epilepsy and design of brain machine interface.

Escape, evacuation, and rescue (EER) analysis is one of vital roles to protect and save personnel in the event of a major accident on offshore oil and gas production platforms. However, most of EER analysis method for evaluating EER strategies of offshore plants relied on deterministic or probabilistic methods including several risk assessment tools. This study focused that all partial processes of EER analysis are similar to the things of passenger ship escape and evacuation: “Means of Escape”, “Simplified Evacuation Analysis”, and “Advanced Evacuation Analysis”. Since various methodologies and some authorized rules for EER plans and resources were already studied in the domain of passenger ship, this study tried to adopt them to offshore plant fields with their minor revisions. In the evacuation process of EER analysis, especially, a human behavior model was adopted to simulate the evacuation sequence in more detail. It was supposed that the human behavior model is based on the velocity-based model, and consists of individual, crowd, and emergency behaviors. As an example, the method is applied to some offshore plant projects and compared with the result of conventional EER analysis.
