Perfluorosulfonate ionomer (PFSI) membranes were annealed at elevated temperature for various periods of time in order to investigate the morphological effects of thermal treatments. For Nafion® 117, the DSC thermograms of Na+-, Cs+- and tetramethylammonium(TMA+)-form membranes show an endothermic peak develops upon annealing at 200ºC, indicating the development of crystallinity in the membrane. For these three samples annealed under same conditions, the heat of fusion (ΠH) values of the endothermic event increases with increasing counterion size. Larger tetraalkylammonium ions, tetraethyla

L’optimisation des microstructures de surface est un facteur primordial pour améliorer les propriétés et la durée de vie des matériaux. The Plasmodium falciparum parasite is thought to be responsible for more than a million deaths every year from severe malaria. Although malaria is a treatable disease, many of the mortalities occur in the first 24 - 48 hours after hospital admission, despite administration of antimalarial drugs. An important contributory factor to severe disease is the ability of the parasite, during the intraerythrocytic development phase, to cause infected red blood cells to sequester in host microvasculature. These sequestered parasitized red blood cells (PRBC) contribute to severe disease by impeding micro

An optical evaluation system is developed to characterise the surface properties of unbleached and bleached hair in an uncontrolled in vivo study by means of confocal laser scanning microscopy. Bleaching leads to deformation of the scale edges, distances between scale edges and other surface phenomena e.g. residues.
