Abstract:
The terms “innovation” and “effectuation” are frequently used but not in the same thought. In this order, publications linking innovation to effectuation are presented and discussed through a methodology based on the publish and perish tool. In the last two decades, effectuation has become an active criterion in entrepreneurship research. However, previous studies do not interconnect effectuation to the different innovation approaches. In order to overcome this gap, this paper focuses on studying innovation in an effectual context and linking different innovation approaches to effectual logic. Indeed, effectuation is a way of thinking that serves entrepreneurs in the processes of opportunity identification and new venture creation. Effectuation includes a set of decision-making principles expert entrepreneurs are observed to employ in situations of uncertainty (as defined in Society for Effectual Action). This article outlines the four most-studied innovation approaches from the date of their apparitions until January 2021: frugal innovation, disruptive innovation, lean start-up, and design thinking. In this context, effectuation as the essence of innovation must be clarified as a method that has similarities and differences with frugal and disruptive innovation, lean start-up, and design thinking. To validate the proposed theorical model, a bibliometrics tool, named “Harzing publish” or “perish”, is used. The main finding of this research affirms that the two most linked innovation approaches to effectuation are “lean start-up” and “design thinking”, compared to “frugal innovation” and “disruptive innovation”. In an entrepreneurial innovation context, design thinking and lean start-up are flexible tools that can stimulate and validate the effectual cycle.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to examine how women’s career stage and Ubuntu (collectivist) values relate to their cognitive ambidexterity when pursuing entrepreneurial initiatives in multicultural South Africa. In this study individual cognitive ambidexterity was operationalised as using effectual and causal logic. More than three hundred businesswomen from diverse backgrounds were surveyed. The results revealed that career stage, self-efficacy and Ubuntu collectivism are important in women’s ambidexterity. Mature, efficacious women in their late career stage draw on their diverse networks and use effectual affordable loss, flexibility and causation when pursuing entrepreneurial initiatives. In contrast, younger, early-career women are more likely to use pre-commitment to ensure support from stakeholders. Women with Ubuntu values use their relationship skills to draw on resources from their networks and use ambidexterity (effectual and causal logic) in their entrepreneurial endeavours. The findings suggest that entrepreneurial women who develop their cognitive ambidexterity and draw on both effectual and causal approaches when initiating entrepreneurial initiatives are more likely to experience successful outcomes. These mental approaches can be developed by means of awareness, training and mentoring. This study extends the literature on women’s entrepreneurial decision-making in a culturally diverse society, demonstrating the influence of cultural values and career stage on effectual and causal logic.

Abstract:
Basing on the principle of causation vs effectuation, we try in this research to undersantand women’s entrepreneurial process and their decision-making logic in the process of entrepreneurial action. Specifically, we seek (1) to understand under what conditions female entrepreneurs mobilize effectual rationality or causal rationality to make decisions and act and (2) to explain the preference for causal or effectual behavior among female entrepreneurs. Research method includes a qualitative approach, through In-depth and semi-structured interviews. Those were conducted with 10 female entrepreneurs, at different stage of their entrepreneurial process, and analyzed through a content analysis. Consistent with existing literature, our results highlight variables that can potentially influence the use of effectual or causal logic: Entrepreneurial expertise and entrepreneurial uncertainty. More interesting this research points out the link between entrepreneurial mo-tivations and the type of decision-making logic used by female entrepreneurs

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to study how digital business models evolve when entrepreneurs move to new digital platforms and how this evolution is related to effectuation and causation logics. Design/methodology/approach This study applies a multiple case study approach to investigate how digital business models change in small, Japanese high-tech firms providing their innovations through different digital platforms. To investigate digital business models, this study considers the elements that comprise general business models. The case firms were selected based on size, products and transitions from physical to various digital platforms. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with the key decision-makers from the case firms. Findings The findings show that through digital transformation, the case firms’ digital business models evolved by following effectuation logic as well as causal logic. All the firms employed causal logic when moving to new platforms, among other actions. The case firms used effectual logic with success for product development and adjustments to their network. Especially firms providing video games relied on effectuation for high impact products. Effectual logic did not play a role at all in changes to value delivery and had only little impact on revenue structures. Originality/value This research helps understand how digitalization of platforms and subsequent moves to newer digital platforms improve a firm by changing the business model elements through effectuation and causation logics. This research extends the understanding of digital business model transformation to a more granular level, business model elements.

Abstract:
This exploratory study investigates how small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) may engage in business development through internal corporate venturing (ICV). We show, based upon three case studies, how ICV in SMEs may be organised in a predominantly improvised manner wherein unforeseen new business opportunities are created in an emergent and iterative trial-and-error process without predetermined goals and without pre-planned strategies. This is a process, we argue, that resembles predominantly effectuation logic. The study contributes to the stream of extant ICV literature by focusing on how SMEs engage in ICV. Moreover, the study contributes to the development of effectuation theory by demonstrating that effectuation logic makes sense, not only in its original venture creation context as suggested by Sarasvathy, but also with regard to how established SMEs infuse more innovative thinking through improvised ICV activities. Findings illustrate that, overall, SMEs act more effectual than causational; and also more than parts of the ICV literature suggest. However, looking at SMEs' ICV activities over several years, it becomes apparent that effectual logics are combined with more causational, pre-planned strategic behaviour.

Abstract:
How do people approach marketing in the face of uncertainty, when the product, the market, and the traditional details involved in market research are unknowable ex ante? The authors use protocol analysis to evaluate how 27 expert entrepreneurs approach such a problem compared with 37 managers with little entrepreneurial expertise (all 64 participants are asked to think aloud as they make marketing decisions in exactly the same unpredictable situation). The hypotheses are drawn from literature in cognitive science on (1) expertise in general and (2) entrepreneurial expertise in particular. The results show significant differences in heuristics used by the two groups. While those without entrepreneurial expertise rely primarily on predictive techniques, expert entrepreneurs tend to invert these. In particular, they use an effectual or nonpredictive logic to tackle uncertain market elements and to coconstruct novel markets with committed stakeholders.

How do citizens respond when provisioning systems are severely changed and curtailed? We apply effectuation theory from the entrepreneurship literature to address a socio-economic issue. We used an online survey and collected data from 1014 citizens in Iran to investigate how an effectual logic of thinking as a psychological framework enables some citizens of a non-Western country to address the uncertainties caused by international economic sanctions and sustain their well-being. We find that optimistic members of society use their effectual logic to enhance their satisfaction with life and social and economic sustainability in the medium-longer run. This study contributes to the multifactorial view of quality of life as well as effectuation theory and enhances our understanding of social sustainability and how it can be cultivated. An entrepreneur is commonly defined by his traits and behaviors, such as willingness to take and bear risks and ability to recognize and exploit opportunities. However, Sarasvathy contends that this is insufficient; rather, an entrepreneur should be as well defined by his logic of reasoning, more precisely the effectual reasoning. This study argues that entrepreneurial traits, behaviors, and reasoning logic apply to Islamic revivalists (mujaddid).

Abstract:
Purpose: The research aimed at investigating the pre-conditions and the decision-making process by which physician-entrepreneurs adopt CBHCS as part of their business. Method: The study uses the case method of investigation. Main results: Results showed that, in the cases studied, international experience and international networking are relevant characteristics of the physician-entrepreneur, besides country reputation, cultural and language similarities, and physician reputation. In addition, the decision processes of the physician-entrepreneurs in these organizations are based on an effectual logic. The offer of cross-border health care services was a combination of given means and contingencies, which helped the entrepreneurs to discover, or to create, the opportunity, and then develop it. Relevance/originality: The research combines the literatures on effectuation and inward internationalization to study the decision-making process of adopting CBHCS by medical clinics. Theoretical contributions: The study contributes to the literature by identifying certain pre-conditions and providing an in-depth analysis of the use of effectual logic by physician-entrepreneurs in their decision-making process of adopting CBHCS.

Abstract:
The scientific method seeks to identify cause-and-effect relationships using experimentation to test hypotheses through correspondence with an objective reality. Hans Vaihinger explicated the role of as-if logic in how science actually works in practice. Milton Friedman built on Vaihinger’s philosophy to argue the same for economics. Here I offer even-if as the logic for effectuation that in turn forms the basis for the entrepreneurial method. Entrepreneurship seeks not merely to test hypotheses but to co-create hypotheses worth reifying. In doing so, effectual entrepreneurship embodying an even-if logic can work with both possibilistic thinking and a variety of aspects of human imagination.

Abstract:
Business growth is considered as one of the main topics of entrepreneurship research. Due to the increased interest on entrepreneurship, new theoretical perspectives have emerged to explain entrepreneurial behavior. One of these emergent theories is effectuation. It is widely known that entrepreneurs and owner-managers count on different decision-making logics during the internationalization of their ventures, including causal and effectual reasoning. Despite that the use of effectual reasoning has been generally linked to the early stages of the creation of a venture; it has recently been introduced to on the internationalization of SMEs research. Introduced by Sarasvathy (2001), effectuation logic is stated to grow in an unstable operating context where it is complicated to predict and in contrast, it is likely to unexpectedly respond to changes in the environment. Furthermore, it represents a typical shift in approaching entrepreneurship. In this theoretical paper, we first aim to highlight the evolution of the concept and the development of the effectuation theory within the literature. Furthermore, we explain the similarities and differences existing between causation and effectuation reasoning. Finally, we use the lens of effectuation to come up with an understanding of the internationalization of SMEs.

Abstract:
The early 21st century presents an uncertain and unpredictable international business environment where business executives must navigate their business activities across national borders. This conceptual paper aims to propose a conceptual framework as a foundation for qualitative cross-national comparative research in international entrepreneurship. Two literature streams; 1) the effectuation method in decision-making and action, and 2) use of the international opportunity concept to inform conceptual framework development. Understanding of how effectual and causal logic are used in business processes and when and why either logic is used over another is still underdeveloped. This paper provides a research framework to conduct qualitative cross-national comparative research to guide international business executives in looking for adequate and effective decision-making solutions to tackle the uncertainty and risk of international business activities deployed across international borders in the 21st century. In conclusion, use of the effectual method in the international opportunity concept is not fully understood, with the current understanding lacking detail, and having an especially high need for qualitative comparitive cross-national research between Switzerland and Thailand, particularly in the international architecture and engineering consulting service industry.

Abstract:
The intent of this study is to address the role of personality traits, mentoring and the effectual logic of entrepreneurial self-efficacy of potential entrepreneurs. In many research on the psychology of the potential entrepreneurs found that personality traits from the big five personality system namely Openness to experience, Conscientiousness, Extroversion, Agreeableness and Neuroticism and generalized self-efficacy individual belief to perform in every situations. In search of role of mentoring, personality traits on entrepreneurial self-efficacy. Entrepreneurial self-efficacy is defined as the strength of the individual’s belief that he or she capable of successfully performing any task of the entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurial Self efficacy consist of five dimensions namely marketing, innovation, finance-control, management, risk taking. Here we conduct a study on the potential entrepreneurs- students those are being trained and have shown their interest in perusing entrepreneurship. We found that potential entrepreneurs have high self-efficacy in marketing, management and financial control. It was also found that if we identified potential entrepreneurs, resources can be channeled and more effectively. This study investigated the relationships of personality traits, mentoring, and effectual logic on entrepreneurial self-efficacy as established in the past researches. The study uses purposive sampling. The data used is both primary and secondary. The primary data has been collected from 57 entrepreneurial students across Agra region. For collecting primary data used self-constructed questionnaire which has been tested for reliability and validity using principal components analysis and content validity check by the experts. The qualitative data from 25 respondents has also been collected using interview method. The correlation and regression analysis has been used. The findings of the quantitate data suggest that personality traits are positively related to entrepreneurial self-efficacy but around there is no relationship among mentoring and entrepreneurial self-efficacy. It is affected by the factors like the type, size of class, mentor and duration of mentoring session and the liberty they get by the mentors. Here, the problems posed by the current competitive situations which affect the start-up businesses. A significant relationship was found between effectual logic and entrepreneurial self-efficacy.

Abstract:
This article focuses on the process of new business creation, considering the effectuation approach, which explains the phenomenon of entrepreneurship in a different perspective than the traditional causal approach. Beginning with a description of the effectual approach assumptions, a case study about the subject is presented in order to explore the logic of the business creation process. The case discusses a Brazilian organization created in 1980 to produce materials and services in steel industry. Through structured interview with the entrepreneur who idealized the business, the main events in the early stages of the project are described. The results show the relationship between entrepreneur’s means available at the time of the enterprise creation and the new business design. In addition, the entrepreneur preferred a strategy of drawing instead of a decision one, and gave priority to strategic partnerships as a substitute of formal market research. All these aspects are covered by the effectual approach.

The purpose of this paper is to explore an ongoing application of the entrepreneurial method applied to the problem of food security in the developing world as an alternative logic. Food production and marketing channels in the developing world are often based on scientific logic starting with an ideal outcome and then strategically designing a plan to achieve it. This study is unique in that it describes the application of an entrepreneurial approach to food product and marketing in less developed nations. A field study is used to illustrate how entrepreneurship is being harnessed to help build a more efficient and effective agricultural value chain in Papua New Guinea (PNG) based on a more entrepreneurial approach. Value chain analysis uses effectual logic to leverage innovation and create value for the consumer, the organization and society; thereby enhancing food security for the desperately poor in PNG. The use of the entrepreneurial method is offered as an alternative model for future international aid interventions and policy.

Abstract:
Abstract In her book "Effectuation, Elements of Entrepreneurial Expertise", Saras Sarasvathy (1998) presents the logic of effectuation. This logic, according to the researcher, is the main decision mode used by the 27 entrepreneurial experts she studied in the framework of a Think Aloud protocol to understand their paths to success. The objective of this article is to study the relationship between the decision logic of effectuation and the business model. In order to do so, we conducted a qualitative analysis using an interpretativist epistemological posture based on a single case study of a young technological company installed in the Marrakesh Safi region. Within the framework of this analysis, we conducted a serie of semi-structured interviews with the founder of the company and each member the management team. Through a vertical and horizontal manual analysis of the interviews, we tried to understand the role of effectuation in the creation and development of the business model of this young company. The results obtained confirm our initial postulate that there is a relationship between the use of effectual logic and the development of a successful business model. We understand that the founder based himself on the effectual logic from the beginning of the creation of his company and led all his decisions by being an actor who can influence and change the market. The management team confirms that all actions taken have contributed to a continuous change of the initial value proposition and an adaptation based on the inputs of the company's self-selected stakeholders. Key Words: Effectuation, Business Model, Decision Making modes Résumé Dans son ouvrage “Effectuation, Elements of Entrepreneurial Expertise”, Saras Sarasvathy (1998) présente la logique de l’effectuation. Abstract:
During the start of the venture entrepreneurs rely on a number of techniques and strategies to make decisions. Effectuation and causation are important modes of this decision making process. The theory on effectuation is advancing from an early to a mature phase globally thus it’s important to understand its dimensions and their influence on the firm’s performance. This study explores the use of this effectual logic in micro and small firms operating in Pakistan and its influence on the financial performance and level of innovation in these firms. Although few researches have been focused on the antecedents and dependents of effectuation but none have arrived at a consensus on the appropriate variables. In Pakistan, as it’s a relatively new concept although being applied, there is all the more need to assess the nature of effect these variables could have on some of the important outcomes of the firm. This research contributes to existing literature by providing relationship of effectuation with, another important, variable of innovation in the firm. In this empirical study, a sample of 166 micro and small firm entrepreneurs was used all operating businesses within Pakistan. A survey, through a questionnaire, was conducted using snowball sampling. Findings indicate that use of effectuation is positively correlated with both higher perceived financial performance and level of innovation employed in the firms. Also not all effectual constructs have uniform influence on the variables which explains the formative nature of the logic of effectuation. A few implications of this study and future research areas have also been identified.

Abstract:
This paper aims to examine the influence of hierarchy and market cultures on firm’s innovation orientation. Also, it explores the moderating roles of the two decision-making logics, which are causation and effectuation on the relationship between hierarchy and market organizational cultures and innovation orientation. The current study extends past research on organizational culture and innovation, by being most likely the first study to examine the extent to which the relationship between hierarchical culture and SME innovation orientation is moderated by causal logic; and the extent to which effectual reasoning moderates the relationship between market culture and the innovation orientation of SMEs. The study utilizes survey data from 206 small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the manufacturing and services sectors of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), that is analyzed using SmartPLS. The results of this study suggest that causation moderates the relationship between hierarchical culture and SME innovation orientation. Furthermore, market culture is only positively related to SME’s innovation orientation when effectuation moderates the relationship.

Abstract:
There is an ample amount of studies attempting to evaluate the success of recovery projects. However, they mostly focused on unilateral success indicators and ignored the continual lifespan and various stakeholders. This study has focused on addressing these obstacles by proposing a comprehensive success evaluation framework for recovery projects following socio-natural disasters through identifying the success dimensions and their effectual parameters. Triangulation of the results of quantitative and qualitative methods and the logic of qualitative comparative analysis were used to answer the research questions. System thinking and the concept of resiliency and sustainability, known as key performance indicators, structured the success measurements. The effectual elements on the success, critical success factors, were grouped according to the continuous life-cycle of these projects. Finally, the framework for success evaluation of socio-natural disaster recovery projects illustrates interactions among the deducted critical success factors and key performance indicators. The proposed framework may serve as more efficient guidelines to set and follow the recovery goals, comprehensively considering a wide range of stakeholders and long-term recovery. The results of this study can be subject to further research by using different methods to enhance the comprehensivity of the framework. The authors will conduct further research to verify the suggested framework by implementing case studies.

Abstract:
Building on the complementarity of the revisited Uppsala model and effectual logic, this article examines the role of affective and cognitive trust for developing knowledge in the context of small- and medium-sized enterprise (SME) internationalization in emerging markets. Drawing on qualitative interview data from New Zealand SMEs engaging with Chinese business partners, the article first shows that an overreliance on affective trust can result in a situation of ‘persistent mediation’, in which learning about opportunities is impaired. Second, utilization of the affordable loss principle and a focus on control facilitates relationship-specific knowledge, which may also lead to cognitive trust. However, cognitive trust does not necessarily transform in the substantive business market knowledge needed to overcome the liability of outsidership. Third, business market knowledge is advanced when partners mutually set goals and develop the opportunity, which potentially also fosters cognitive and affective trust.

The new digital environment and the COVID-19 crisis, having drastically increased the amount of teleworking and e-commerce, seem to have benefited GAFAM and digital platforms. Under the current conditions, SMEs and traditional businesses are forced to look for adaptive strategies. Some researchers (e.g. A. Carmeli and G.D. Markman) argue that they SMEs and traditional businesses need to build entrepreneurial and organizational resilience . And it is in this respect, in particular, that psychology can be usefully mobilized to analyze new forms of economic competition. On these grounds, the authors of the paper defend the idea that the SMEs and traditional businesses will be able to exist and assert themselves against their new competitors. In this new interconnected, turbulent and uncertain environment, this self-assertion passes through a strategic and organizational reconfiguration, but also and above all, through entrepreneurial action in its effectual logic which can lead to resilience and, moreover, to antifragility .

Abstract:
Effectuation has become a highly influential decision-making logic for entrepreneurs. While most studies have viewed effectuation as an approach to managing resource constraints in the new venture context, few of them have directly investigated the effects of effectuation as an approach to absorptive capacity (AC) in the corporate context. Specifically, the relationship between the usage of an effectual logic and its impact on the knowledge of individuals remains underexplored in corporate entrepreneurship (CE), i.e., entrepreneurship in incumbent organisations. Moreover, in a digital world characterised by the growing proliferation of digital technologies, digital skills can support the learning and knowledge absorption process of individuals in incumbent organisations facilitating the development of corporate innovation. By using the survey data from employees of an incumbent firm, we test hypotheses developed to examine the relationship between effectuation and entrepreneurial orientation (EO) as well as the mediating role of AC and the moderator role of digital skills in this relationship. The empirical results generally support our hypotheses by showing that (i) effectuation positively influences AC, and (ii) digital skills have a positive moderating effect on the relationship between effectuation and AC. No significant results emerged concerning hypothesis (iii) AC mediates the relationship between effectuation and EO. Drawing upon the findings of this study, we reframe effectuation as a concrete activity that enhances knowledge absorption and enlarges the scope of opportunities, and in turn fosters entrepreneurial actions in organisations. In doing so, we advance the extant understanding of corporate effectuation in the digital era, providing also managerial implications.

Abstract:
In Egypt, social enterprises are important to confront some of the major challenges facing the country. Nevertheless, they face several obstacles that hinder their development, social impact, and performance. In 2001, Saravathy developed effectuation theory which acknowledges how the decision-making process, action and implementation are practiced by entrepreneurs in an unpredicted and dynamic environment. Hence, effectuation can be suggested as a possible resort to improve social enterprises’ performance. Thus, the objective of the research is to investigate whether effective logic principles affect social enterprises’ financial, market, and innovative performance in Egypt. An online survey was shared via email with social entrepreneurs identified using snow-ball sampling. Results showed that the performance of social enterprises in Egypt is average, and in some instances, lesser than average, especially financial and innovation performance, while they moderately apply effectuation principles as they perform their regular activities.

PurposeLean Startup (LS) has gained considerable traction in the startup scene, especially within digital firms where the concept finds the concept's genesis. However, there are more and more calls in the entrepreneurship literature to study LS's application beyond the digital context. The purpose of this study is to explore the applicability of LS within the largely under-researched context of non-digital entrepreneurs. To structure the authors' understanding of the participating entrepreneurs' cognitive and behavioural logic, effectuation theory is applied.Design/methodology/approachTo explore how LS is applied in non-digital settings, this study analyses the LS approach of 15 Dutch brick-and-mortar and click-and-mortar Small to Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and startups.FindingsThis study provides empirical evidence that non-digital entrepreneurs pursue an effectual logic in their LS approach. However, the entrepreneurs' LS approach appeared to be contextualised to the non-digital contexts' inherent constraints and trade-offs. Such contextualisation calls for a particular set of skills and competencies, including applying mixed-methods cross-validation, affinity and passion for craftsmanship and aesthetics, inferring from limited, qualitative, and often skewed data, establishing an empathetic collaborative relationship with customers and suppliers, and leveraging prior market knowledge and experience.Originality/valueThis study advances the current understanding of the LS applicability and gives a more nuanced account of how LS is practised in the context of non-digital firms, the challenges entrepreneurs involved in non-digital firms need to overcome, and the skills and competencies they need to possess. In practical terms, the findings help non-digital entrepreneurs and coaches to be more heedful of the contextual peculiarities when employing LS.

Abstract:
Purpose This paper aims to explore the mediating role of organizational entrepreneurial capability in the link between entrepreneurs’ effectuation and new venture performance, and whether entrepreneurs’ passion positively moderates this relationship in the Chinese emerging economy. Design/methodology/approach This study collected survey data from 140 Chinese new ventures. Following an empirical design, hierarchical regression analysis and bootstrapping analysis were applied to examine six hypotheses. Findings Results reveal that organizational entrepreneurial capability plays a positively mediating role in the association between entrepreneurs’ effectuation and new venture performance. Moreover, the whole mediation model is positively moderated by entrepreneurs’ passion, not only the association but also between entrepreneurs’ effectuation and organizational entrepreneurial capability. Research limitations/implications The study is limited to the static relationships between key variables using the data obtained at one point in an emerging economy, which cannot investigate the dynamic evolution between variables. More longitudinal designs or cases to track the dynamic association should be considered. Practical implications The findings provide useful suggestions for entrepreneurs to enhance their effectual logic and entrepreneurs’ passion to better perceive and exploit opportunities and further improve new venture performance. The results also provide guidance for other groups, such as angel investors and policymakers, regarding how to use effectuation logic as an evaluation criterion to judge whether a new venture or program has investment potential. Originality/value These findings enrich the effectuation theory by providing the empirical evidence of the effect of entrepreneurs’ effectuation on new venture performance in an emerging economy. They also provide deeper insights into opportunity research by uncovering the mediating role of organizational entrepreneurial capability in the relationship between entrepreneurs’ effectuation and new venture performance.

Abstract:
New global and domestic policy and regulatory initiatives promoting a circular economy have renewed interest in the beneficial repurposing of commercial waste streams. Likewise, consumer trends and customers’ increased understanding of what they purchase, where it comes from, and what happens to it post-consumption have forced firms to consider reducing and reusing their production waste streams. The forest products industry is an exemplar of becoming more adept at reorganising and exploiting repurposed waste streams for beneficial reuse. This paper explores three case studies from the Australian forestry sector that illustrate how wood waste is being profitably repurposed as an input into other products. We use the lens of the entrepreneurial method to explore how firms recognise, strategically access, and exploit the sustainable opportunities that can range from sustainably sourced inputs to environmental-, social-, and governance-driven consumption and investments. Effectual logic allows the reconceptualisation of forestry waste streams into inputs for use in creating new commercial products and provides a theoretical framework. While the repurposing of wood waste is profitable for the forestry firm, we found that social and economic gains reach far beyond the region in which these activities occur. Innovations often stimulate other innovations, resulting in a virtuous cycle within regional Australia’s emerging circular economy.

Satisfactory nationwide development without constructive local governments’ input is mutually exclusive. Meaning that institution of effectual local administrations not to produce deleterious interaction-effect of development is essential. This paper evaluates published articles between 2010 and 2020 on Nigerian context to comprehend what undermines impactful local governments’ participation in national development to pinpoint lessons for African nations. It addresses the question of how abject local government in place do not support its positive involvement in overall national development. The intrinsic purpose of local government according to the classical theory’s logic is the paper’s theoretical foundation. Deriving from a literature review methodology, the paper proffers reform agendas to enhance optimal efficacy of local administrations in the intergovernmental relations schemes for development in Africa from literature insights of the Nigerian situation. The analysis parallel the three thematic codes evolved from the classical theory’s justification of local government: optimization of local governance, enhancement of local democracy, and facilitation of efficient local services delivery. It observes that implementation of ineffectual decentralization policies and lack of local autonomy are critical factors undermining optimum development in Nigeria, viz African countries. Whereas, decentralization and local autonomy accentuates the centrality of local government in the national developmental trajectory.

Abstract:
The present paper came into existence with the specific purpose of providing an optimized process that enables making resilient decisions in an uncertain context, and here our interest is particularly focused on the activity of new venture creation and on the entrepreneurial decision-making logic, in particular, effectuation theory. Within this framework, the rational resilience-based decision-making model (R2DM) is introduced. The relevant steps of this model are: (1) The identification of the problem and the available options. In this instance, the studied situation is the effectual customer co-creation case, and the available alternatives are planning, visionary, adaptative and transforming approaches, (2) The definition of the selection criteria that should be used to evaluate the available alternatives. In our case, these criteria are the six principles of entrepreneurial resilience, which are set out in detail, (3) The choice of the methodology to be followed in assessing the available options. To that end, three interconnected methods, based mainly on logical thinking and reasoning, are proposed. They are respectively devoted to Entrepreneurial resilience (ER) calculation, options classification using logistic regression algorithm, and the determination of the most resilient route to reach objectives employing graph theory. The obtained results are compared to what is advocated in the literature and conclusions are made.

ChatGPT is taking the world and the education sector by storm. Many educators are still hesitant to integrate it within their curricula, owing to the limited practical and theoretical guidance on its applications, despite early conceptual studies advocating for its potential benefits. This pedagogical innovation applied an effectual logic to implement ChatGPT for a founding team activity within an entrepreneurship course. Composing a founding team is an inundating task in venture creation, with long-lasting consequences. So far, there is yet to be an ideal approach proposed in literature or observed in real-life for doing it. In this pedagogical innovation, three student teams with varying business ideas prompted ChatGPT using different keywords and levels of details, to get recommendations on essential team members, their roles and equity split. Each team presented their findings, and then the classroom engaged in a collective discussion. The students were surveyed afterwards to assess the reception and effectiveness of the intervention. Their feedback showed an overwhelming favoritism of ChatGPT, as a convenient and resourceful learning tool. The study establishes the potential value of ChatGPT as a heutagogical tool that supports student-centric entrepreneurial learning across educational institutions and the entrepreneurship ecosystem that extends to the venture creation process.

Abstract:
It is the expansion and use of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) in various industrial sectors and applications that are referred to as the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). The Industrial Internet of Things includes industrial applications such as robots, medical devices, and software-defined manufacturing processes. In terms of energy conservation, routing is extremely essential. The creation of an energy effectual steering procedure leads to a substantial rise in energy consumption. To minimize network traffic and increase network life, the article presented an Industrial IoT Fuzzy Logic Energy-Aware Routing Protocol (FLEA-RPL), which decreases network traffic as well as improves network life. The most suitable parent for data transfer is selected based on, among other things, the routing parameters charge, residual energy, and expected transmission count. Since the load routing metric is taken into consideration during the construction of the route, the data traffic is spread across the network. This increases network’s lifetime while maintaining a high packet delivery ratio. The proposed work proposes a Multilayer Energy-Aware Aware RPL (MCEA-RPL) cluster for the Internet of Things to decrease network data traffic while increasing the lifetime of the network. It is split into three phases, each including the creation of network rings, intraring divisions, and intercluster routing. First and foremost, the virtual ring is created in the network. Secondly, each ring forms an identical cluster and chooses the CH node. Finally, it is responsible for the maintenance and performance of the DODAG. Data transfer from the lesser sheet to the DODAG root is known as data transfer. By using Blockchain technology, the lifetime of a network may be extended by reducing the number of identical data package transfers. This article offers Enhanced Mobility Support RPL (EM-RPL) in Industrial IoT which enhances mobility support with blockchain and spreads system generation. It comprises two processes: a collection of the parental static node and selection of the parent moving node. The static parent selection method uses routing metrics load and residual energy to identify the parent that is most suited for data transfer. Two phases of mobile parent selection must be distinguished: data transmission and route rediscovery. The mobile node utilizes furious logic to compute the hand-off value of the metric packet errors ratio and the signal strength indication received from the base station. If the hand-off value exceeds the threshold limit, the DODAG route has to be changed to work correctly. The EM-RPL thus increases the package delivery rate by reducing the amount of route interruption caused by mobility, while offering an efficient handling mechanism.

PurposeExamine and understand how an informal volunteer’s goals and actions develop from the moment they first learn about a disaster.Design/methodology/approachWe examine informal volunteerism (the activities of people who work outside of formal emergency and disaster management arrangements) through the theoretical lens of entrepreneurial effectuation to explain informal volunteer behavior and cognition and gain insight on how they develop their disaster relief ventures.FindingsWe find that informal volunteers follow an effectual logic, relying on available means to take advantage of opportunities as they are recognized or created. Application of effectuation vs causation processes depended on whether the informal volunteers were categorized as traditional, emergent or extended volunteers.Practical implicationsInformal volunteers’ disregard for the Affordable Loss Principle task governments and disaster relief organizations with the important challenge of managing and assuring the safety and well-being of informal volunteers. Their entrepreneurial behavior also invites the establishment of formal processes to counsel and guide informal volunteers, helping them fill out the necessary paperwork and funding applications to develop their efforts.Social implicationsThrough their experimentation and flexibility, informal volunteers accelerate disaster recovery, recognizing opportunities, working around bureaucracy and other roadblocks that hinder the efforts of established organizations. They also demonstrate entrepreneurial behavior that helps revitalize and jumpstart the local economy, making for stronger and more resilient communitiesOriginality/valueThis study borrows from Effectuation Theory from the entrepreneurship field in order to bring a much needed theoretical lens to the topic and greatly assists informal volunteerism research, moving from past efforts that simply define and categorize the concept.

Abstract:
This study investigated the impact of global mind-set (GM) and halal brand trust (HBT) on halal entrepreneurial performance (HEP). This study extends the entrepreneurship literature by adopting the dynamic capability theory (DCT) to assess HEP. Data were collected from 311 SMEs established in Indonesia using the simple random sampling method, whereas the variance-based partial least-square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) approach was used for test the proposed conceptual model. This study revealed the significant effect of GM and HBT upon HEP. Additionally, entrepreneurial competency (EC) and effectual logic (EL) displayed partially mediating effects. This study found that online food delivery (OFD) had strengthened the relationship between EC and HEP. Nevertheless, EC had no statistical impact on EL, while OFD negatively affected the GM-HEP link. Due to the limited scope of this study, the cross-sectional approach adopted in this study is viewed as a limitation. Besides, constriction in time had led this study to be conducted within a specified time-frame. As such, future studies may adopt the longitudinal approach over a period of three to five years in order to overcome the listed limitations. This study assessed the effect of GM and HBT on HEP as fresh insight to better comprehend the determinants of HEP in uncertain condition. This study has extended the theory of Teece et al. (1997) DCT within the context of HEP. Upon determining the effect of two new constructs (GM and HBT) through the lens of DCT and validating the proposed model, this study offers theoretical and contextual contributions to the overall body of knowledge with PLS-SEM.

Abstract:
One of the widespread electric motors for electric vehicles (EVs) is permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) drives. It is because of the power density and high energy of the PMSM with moderate assembly cost. The widely adopted PMSM as the motor of choice for EVs, together with variety of applications urges stringent monitoring of temperature to ignore high temperatures. Temperature monitoring of the PMSM is highly complex to accomplish because of complex measurement device for internal components of the PMSM. Temperature values beyond a certain range might result in additional maintenance costs together with major operational problems in PMSM. The latest developments in artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning (DL) methods pave a way for accurate temperature prediction in PMSM drivers. With this motivation, this article introduces an enhanced remora optimization algorithm with stacked bidirectional long short-term memory (EROA-SBiLSTM) approach for temperature prediction of the PMSM drives. The presented EROA-SBiLSTM technique mainly focuses on effectual temperature prediction using DL and hyperparameter tuning schemes. To accomplish this, the EROA-SBiLSTM technique applies Pearson correlation coefficient analysis for observing the correlation among various features, and the p-value is utilized for determining the relevant level. Next, the SBiLSTM model is used to predict the level of temperature that exists in the PMSM drivers. Finally, the EROA based hyperparameter tuning process is carried out to adjust the SBiLSTM parameters optimally. The experimental outcome of the EROA-SBiLSTM technique is tested using electric motor temperature dataset from the Kaggle dataset. The comprehensive study specifies the betterment of the EROA-SBiLSTM technique.

Abstract:
Entrepreneurs rely on different decision–making logics when starting new ventures, including causal and effectual reasoning. Extant research suggests that venture performance is positively associated with both causal business planning and effectual action–orientation, but studies have not yet tested the synergistic potential of these two logics. We contribute to the debate on entrepreneurial decision making by exploring the interrelationship between causation and effectuation, detailing their main and interactive effects on venture performance. Using survey data collected on 1,453 entrepreneurs residing in 25 countries, we find that ventures benefit from using these two entrepreneurial logics in tandem.
