Purpose: To develop a method for the measurement of carbon dioxide (CO2) released from effervescent formulations.
Methods: Effervescent granules were prepared using sodium bicarbonate and citric acid by fusion and solvent-assisted granulation methods. The amount of CO2 released was determined from the maximum pressure of gas release, time profile of pressure gradient using modified Chittick apparatus and gravimetric changes following effervescence.
Results: The amount of CO2 released from effervescent granules prepared by fusion method was 8.125, 8.763 and 7.98 mM/g measured by ide

This article investigates the life histories of women who participated in the consolidation of the entertainment industry at a time of great cultural effervescence in Brazil. The analysis is based on the artistic careers of the chacretes, the dancers who helped the host Abelardo Barbosa, Chacrinha, on shows in Brazilian television between the 1960 and 1980. From a field work conducted in Rio de Janeiro, we intend to discuss the experiences they had from this type of career choice. To be a “woman of TV” has affected their daily lives in different ways, redefining social bonds, projects and expe

The last decade on the 19th century saw a major crisis of identity in what is known today as Finland. Having emerged from under centuries of Swedish rule and being incorporated into the Russian Empire, the population turned to its true ethnic roots. The compilation and the publishing of the Kalevala set in motion a series of cultural and artistic events which resonated deeply with the political aspirations of the moment. Amidst this effervescence came the young Jean Sibelius to present one of his earliest monumental works, Kullervo Op 7. Often mislabeled as a symphonic poem, this programmatic

Anglo-American socialism has reached a curious impasse. Levels of economic inequality not seen since the nineteenth century would lead one to anticipate an upsurge in socialist affiliation and activism. Nevertheless, socialism has stagnated as a political force. This essay argues that, as a collectivist ideology, socialism demands a degree of communal identification that modern individuals find uncomfortable, even threatening, to the integrity of the self. Investigating this discomfort leads me to argue that, while socialism is not a religion (pace the claim of Gareth Stedman Jones), it noneth

Fizzy extraction (FE) facilitates analysis of volatile solutes by promoting their transfer from the liquid to the gas phase. A carrier gas is dissolved in the sample under moderate pressure (Δp ≈ 150 kPa), followed by an abrupt decompression, what leads to effervescence. The released gaseous analytes are directed to an on-line detector due to a small pressure difference. FE is advantageous in chemical analysis because the volatile species are released in a short time interval, allowing for pulsed injection, and leading to high signal-to-noise ratios.
