Pomelo sometimes is grown from seeds, but nowadays the fruits are often found to be having lesser seeds or even seedless. Besides, it is quite challenging to grow this local pomelo not only due to the scarce of the seeds, but it also cannot be conventionally germinated. Therefore, we need to develop this fruit through tissue culture. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of growth regulators on germination of po

Abstract:
Palm oil mill effluent (POME) is one of the major sources of water pollution in Malaysia. POME is produced in large volumes by many palm oil mills and has acidic pH and high concentrations of COD, BOD, and suspended solids, which have adverse effect to the environment. Currently, the technology to treat POME is either physical, chemical, or biological. About 80% of palm oil mills treat their POME by using biological method. Recent studies have indicated that understanding the microbial community structure is of great importance to improve and control the biological treatment performance. Currently, the most popular molecular biology tools for microorganism community analysis are fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH), cloning of 16S rDNA, and denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE). This chapter aims to review the current and ongoing treatments of POME (mainly anaerobic, aerobic, physicochemical, and membrane separation) and discuss the potential of using the molecular biology techniques in POME treatment. The importance and effectiveness of the microbiology tools are also discussed. The ability to monitor microorganisms and understand their ecology is essential to effectively control the startup and operation of biological treatment system in treating POME and eventually producing effluent of acceptable quality.

Abstract:
The world’s largest contribution to biomass comes from lignocellulosic material. Oil palm biomass is one of the most important sources of lignocellulosic material in Asia, with biomass produced four times that of palm oil. Oil palm trunk (OPT), oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB), oil palm frond (OPF), and palm oil mill effluent (POME) are examples of biomass lignocellulosic materials produced. Unfortunately, the majority of waste is disposed of in landfills, causing serious environmental issues such as global warming and the greenhouse effect. These wastes are known to contain a high concentration of cellulose and hemicellulose. Because of its high carbohydrate content, it has a promising future as a feedstock for the fermentation process, which can produce a variety of chemical products at a low cost. This chapter will describe the biochemical products produced from various oil palm biomass via various fermentation processes involving various microorganism strains.

"would have responded in the same way (Graham and Howe). The magistrates had focused on loss of will at the invitation of the prosecution, and this may have led them to overlook the objective elements. There was no finding that the respondent had been in fear of his life or serious injury at the moment he drove off, or that he continued to be frightened during the two miles he drove before being stopped. The only finding was that the respondent feared for his life when still in the flat. The magistrates did not consider whether there was good cause for the fear. Had they done so, it would have been impossible to conclude that the other man drawing near and undoing the respondent’s shirt buttons could provide cause for such fear. Neither did the other man’s attempts to pull the respondent from his car, which were accompanied by unspecified abuse but no actual blows. The magistrates had also erred in deciding that it was not unreasonable for the respondent to drive two miles as it would have been difficult for him to stop. They should have considered whether it was necessary for him to continue driving. Pittaway: The magistrates had again applied a subjective test, concerning themselves with the effect on the respondent of a man behaving violently towards her. They had not found that the threats amounted to threats of death or serious injury. They were wrong to apply a subjective test, and also wrong in considering whether the distance driven was reasonable, rather then necessary. Neither did they consider the significance of the respondent sitting in her car for five minutes, unpursued by the appellant, before driving off. They should have considered whether there was good cause for her to fear, which there was not. R v Pommell [1995] 2 Cr App R 607 (CA)." In Sourcebook Criminal Law. Abstract:
There is increased demand for high quality fruit produced and marketed with reduced chemical inputs to minimize toxic effects on human health and the environment. Granny Smith (GS) apple quality is reduced by two major physiological disorders, superficial scald and bitter pit (BP). These disorders cause great loss to apple growers worldwide. Superficial scald is commonly controlled by chemical treatments, mainly the antioxidant diphenylamine (DPA) and/or the ethylene action inhibitor, 1-methylcyclopropene (1–MCP). Both chemicals are ineffective in controlling bitter pit incidence. We proposed

Abstract:
The research problem: The detection of pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) by plant pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) is a key mechanism by which plants activate an effective immune response against pathogen attack. MAPK cascades are important signaling components downstream of PRRs that transduce the PAMP signal to activate various defense responses. Preliminary experiments suggested that the receptor-like cytoplasmickinase (RLCK) Mai5 plays a positive role in pattern-triggered immunity (PTI) and interacts with the MAPKKK M3Kε. We thus hypothesized that Mai5, as other RLCKs, fun
