In addition to their effect on body composition (fat reduction), conjugated linoleic acid isomers (CLA) can play several health benefits, including anti-cancer, anti-atherogenic, anti-adipogenic, anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, possible cholesterolemia regulation, and immune function stimulation. Probiotics have been found to produce CLA, however, there is still controversy in the results obtained on the production and effects of human gut bacterial CLA reported in literature. Most of the biological effects have been attributed to cis9, trans11, and trans10, cis12 isomers. The aim of this review was to highlight and discuss how probiotic bacterial CLA isomers provided health benefits. [Au-delà des effets des isomères conjugués de l’acide linoléique (conjugated linoleic acid isomers (CLA)) sur la composition corporelle (diminution de la graisse), ces composés bioactifs ont des effets sur la santé humaine, tels que les effets anti-can-céreux, anti-athérogéniques, anti-adipogéniques, anti-diabétiques, antiinflammatoires, impact potentiel sur la cholestérolémie et stimulation de la fonction immunitaire. Les bactéries probiotiques ont été trouvées capables de conjuguer l’acide linoléique. Toutefois, peu d’études ont mis le point sur cette production des isomères conjugués d’acide linoléique par des bactéries intestinales humaines et restent peu concluantes. Leurs effets santé ont été reliés à deux types d’isomères, à savoir le 9cis, 11trans et le 10trans, 12cis. La présente mise au point a pour objet de souligner les données disponibles concernant les effets des isomères CLA sur la santé, en particulier ceux produits par des bactéries probiotiques. Les mécanismes impliqués dans leurs activités sont aussi évoqués.]

Les effets des dépérissements sur la structure des peuplements, la quantité et la qualité des ressources, la composition des paysages et les communautés biologiques ont été analysés. Dans les pessières bavaroises, la richesse spécifique augmente généralement en zones perturbées, où certaines espèces rares réapparaissent. Dans les sapinières pyrénéennes, les effets du dépérissement aux échelles du peuplement et du paysage sont interdépendants. Dans les chênaies de plaine, les réponses des guildes d’insectes des houppiers sont contrastées. Les coupes sanitaires altèrent la structure du peuplement, et modifient la composition initiale des communautés par un effet additif au dépérissement. Les nombreuses incertitudes sur la dynamique des communautés soulignent l’importance de disposer de longues séries temporelles. Des réflexions opérationnelles sont engagées pour une sylviculture de rétention saisissant l’opportunité des crises, dans le respect des équilibres économiques et phytosanitaires. Le niveau d’alimentation est un des facteurs d’élevage qui affecte la production et la composition du lait chez la brebis laitière. La production laitière augmente avec le niveau d’alimentation et inversement, alors que les effets sur la composition du lait sont moins nets. Le taux butyreux du lait est généralement corrélé négativement au bilan énergétique des brebis, alors que le taux protéique est corrélé positivement avec celui-ci : un niveau d’alimentation élevé diminue généralement la teneur en matières grasses du lait et augmente légèrement la teneur en protéines. La distribution de grandes quantités de concentrés, qui est un moyen simple d’augmenter l’apport d’énergie dans la ration, risque de provoquer une chute des taux butyreux et protéique et, secondairement, entraîne une réorientation des flux d’énergie vers le dépôt de gras corporel. Lorsque la brebis n’a pas atteint son potentiel de production, l’augmentation de la teneur protéique de la ration augmente la production de protéines du lait, mais sans modification du taux protéique du lait.
 L’utilisation de certains nutriments tels que les matières grasses ou les acides aminés protégés semble intéressante comme moyen d’accroître les teneurs en matières grasses et/ou protéiques du lait, mais peu d’expériences ont été effectuées sur brebis laitières et l’intérêt de ces nutriments est encore mal connu.
 Dans les conditions pratiques d’élevage de brebis laitières, généralement alimentées en groupes, les effets de l’alimentation sont souvent masqués par d’autres facteurs d’élevage connus pour modifier eux-mêmes la composition du lait. Il est donc nécessaire de prendre en compte la variabilité individuelle (stade de lactation notamment) pour définir la stratégie d’alimentation qui permette de maîtriser la composition du lait collecté.

Le but de l’analyse des données laitières à l’échelle du troupeau est d’identifier des facteurs non génétiques de variation de la composition chimique du lait produit et d’estimer leurs effets. L’analyse présentée permet notamment d’apprécier l’impact de la structure du troupeau, induit par les flux d’entrée et de sortie des brebis du troupeau trait. Ces effets globaux de structure du troupeau, qui peuvent se caractériser par la vitesse de constitution du troupeau et la stabilité de l’effectif trait, sont la résultante de facteurs élémentaires comme le mois d’agnelage, l’âge et le stade de lactation. Une simulation d’élevages pyrénéens montre que les écarts de taux butyreux et protéique annuels peuvent atteindre respectivement 3,3 g/l et 1,6 g/l en faveur d’un troupeau théorique où toutes les brebis seraient traites du début à la fin de la période de livraison, comparé à un troupeau de même taille se constituant lentement et dont l’effectif varie constamment. Plus généralement, la méthode d’analyse proposée vise à estimer l’importance respective de divers facteurs d’élevage, outre les effets propres de la structure du troupeau. Ainsi, l’analyse réalisée sur les données de 253 élevages du Rayon de Roquefort montre des effets significatifs de facteurs de structure du troupeau pouvant expliquer des écarts d’environ 1,9 g/l et 1,3 g/l respectivement pour les taux butyreux et protéique annuels, tandis que l’on met en évidence simultanément un effet favorable de la présence d’ensilage dans la ration hivernale, d’environ 2,0 g/l pour le taux butyreux annuel.

Nous étudions les déterminants de la réussite scolaire des jeunes en Nouvelle-Calédonie, petite économie insulaire du Pacifique Sud, fortement marquée par les inégalités. En effet, les institutions publiques, notamment éducatives, mettent en place des mesures importantes pour réduire les inégalités, dans un contexte de décolonisation et d'autonomie de ce territoire ultramarin français. Ainsi, nous cherchons à comprendre comment les effets de composition des contextes éducatifs peuvent ou non contribuer aux inégalités de performance académique. Nous mobilisons des données administratives exhaustives d’élèves de 3 e pour étudier le rôle des caractéristiques individuelles et les effets des contextes scolaires sur la réussite au Diplôme National du Brevet. Nous cherchons à déterminer dans quelle mesure les environnements des classes et établissements peuvent affecter la réussite scolaire des élèves. Outre les caractéristiques individuelles sociodémographiques des élèves, les estimations de modèles multiniveaux montrent des effets-classes plus importants que ceux liés à l’établissement.

The desert locusts, Schistocerca gregaria have a great history of being used as food. They are rich in proteins, minerals, fibre, and fats. An experiment was conducted to determine the effects of diet on the nutritional composition of desert locusts. They received a diet of wheatgrass, sorghum grass, and green gram leaves respectively. Proximate and mineral composition of mature locusts and feed plants was done using standard methods. The data were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA) using a general linear model procedure. Moisture content was significantly higher in locusts reared on the sorghum diet (35.1%) and lowest in the green grams diet (12.9%). Locust reared on green gram diet recorded high protein, fat, and fibre compared to sorghum and wheat diet. Locusts reared on a wheatgrass diet recorded a significantly high amount of carbohydrate (14.3%) and ash (3.20%) compared to sorghum and green gram diet. The highest calculated energy was in locust reared on the green gram diet (2184.95KJ/g) while locust reared on the sorghum diet recorded the least energy 1391KJ/g. Magnesium and Calcium minerals were higher in all the locusts reared on the three diets. The mean values for Phosphorus were significantly lower followed by Copper in all the tested locusts. Locust reared on sorghum leaves recorded a significantly high amount of Potassium. The findings revealed that locusts are highly nutritive and can be reared on locally available feeds and can therefore play a major role in the food and nutritional security of people.

Chez des porcs nourris à volonté, l’administration de somatotropine porcine (pST) pendant la période de finition entraîne une diminution de l’ingéré alimentaire (2-22%), une accélération de la croissance (jusqu’à 47%) et une amélioration de l’efficacité alimentaire (3-38%), en relation avec une réduction du dépôt de gras corporel (7-44%). Le pourcentage de muscles dans la carcasse est augmenté de 2 à 23%. En liaison avec l’augmentation du poids de certains organes (foie, coeur, etc.), le rendement à l’abattage est réduit de 1 à 4%. L’administration de GRF (Growth Hormone-Releasing Factor) ou d’un analogue du GRF a les mêmes effets qualitatifs que celle de pST. L’amplitude des effets de la pST peut varier en fonction : 1) de la dose de pST. L’ingéré alimentaire et le dépôt de gras décroissent linéairement avec la dose alors que la réponse en termes d’efficacité alimentaire ou de dépôt de muscle plafonne au delà de la dose seuil qui permet d’obtenir la vitesse de croissance maximale. 2) des modalités d’administration. Les formes d’administration lente semblent moins efficaces qu’une injection journalière. 3) de l’âge et du poids. Les effets de la pST administrée pendant la phase de croissance ou chez des porcs lourds sont similaires, qualitativement et quantitativement, à ceux observés pendant la période de finition. 4) du génotype, du sexe et de la castration. Les effets de la pST sont d’autant plus importants que le potentiel de croissance musculaire de l’animal est plus faible. Les effets de la pST sur le pourcentage des différents types de fibres musculaires ne sont pas clairs, bien que l’on observe une augmentation générale de leur surface de section transversale. Les effets de la pST sur les caractéristiques musculaires peuvent varier fortement selon le muscle considéré. Les propriétés physiques et sensorielles de la viande ne sont généralement pas ou peu modifiées par le traitement pST. Outre l’impact sur la composition du muscle et du gras, on observe assez souvent une légère dégradation de la tendreté. L’impact d’un traitement par la pST sur la venue en puberté des cochettes n’est pas clair. Il semble bien cependant que, s’il devait y avoir un effet négatif, celui-ci soit facilement réversible, dès l’arrêt du traitement. L’administration de pST pendant la gestation n’a aucun effet sur la portée. L’intérêt d’un traitement par la pST pendant la lactation reste controversé. Bien que la somatotropine semble être impliquée dans la régulation de la croissance chez les oiseaux, l’administration de GRF ou de somatotropine n’a que des effets transitoires (ou même, le plus souvent, aucun effet) sur les performances de croissance et la composition des carcasses de poulet...

Nous avons étudié la sensibilité des fibres dopées erbium (EDF) sous irradiation et les défauts induits par celle-ci. Le premier chapitre présente l'état de l'art sur les EDF sous irradiations ainsi que des défauts générés dans la silice par les radiations. Le deuxième chapitre précise les types de radiations utilisés et les moyens expérimentaux mis en oeuvre pour caractériser les réponses des fibres sous irradiation ainsi que les défauts à l'origine des pertes. Dans le troisième chapitre, nous présentons la réponse de plusieurs fibres dopées erbium irradiées aux rayons γ, protons et rayons X pulsés. Les fibres dopées erbium et aluminium présentent des pertes induites par radiation plus élevées que les fibres classiques de transmission des télécommunications (SMF28) ou celles dopées erbium avec peu d'aluminium. La présence de l'aluminium dans la composition du coeur des fibres dopées erbium est en grande partie responsable des pertes induites. Quelque soit le type d'irradiation, les défauts créés par l'irradiation sont liés à la matrice hôte. Nos études montrent aussi que l'erbium n'est affecté qu'à travers son interaction avec les défauts créés. Le quatrième chapitre traite des EDF sous insolation UV et montre que les UV conduisent aux mêmes effets que les rayons γ. Le dernier chapitre présente, quant à lui, l'étude des amplificateurs optiques sous irradiation γ.

Le tourteau de soja est aujourd'hui largement utilisé comme source de matière azotée dans la nutrition des animaux monogastriques. Toutefois sa digestibilité in vivo ne semble pas optimale chez les volailles et certaines molécules qualifiées d'indigestibles, comme les galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS), semblent limiter cette énergie métabolisable chez les volailles. Le défaut d'assimilation des GOS par manque d'enzyme endogène adapté représenterait un faible mais non négligeable manque à gagner énergétique pour l'animal car, bien que fermentescibles au niveau caecal, leur contribution au bilan énergétique demeure difficile à estimer. De plus il est avancé que la seule présence de ces molécules dans un aliment soit suffisante à diminuer sa valeur énergétique. La littérature actuelle reste ambigue quant à l'influence de ces molécules car, bien que largement considérés comme facteurs antinutritionnels, les conséquences de leur présenœ dans un aliment sur sa digestibilité n'ont pu être clairement corrélées à une diminution des performances d'élevage. Une première expérience in vivo avec deux niveaux de GOS représentatifs des aliments retrouvés en élevage avicole n'a pu mettre en évidence le caractère anti-nutritionnel proposé par la littérature. Un deuxième type d'expérience basé sur la substitution d'un aliment de base par addition de GOS (l'approche de différence) a été réalisée pour évaluer la valeur énergétique in vivo des GOS ainsi que leurs effets nutritionnels sur la fermentation caecale, le temps de transit intestinal et la digestibilité de l'aliment lorsque de grandes quantités sont ingérées. Parallèlement une approche in vitro a été réalisée afro d'estimer le profil fermentaire caecal en fonction de la quantité de GOS. Les résultats ont montré que les GOS présentent une cœfficient d'utilisation pré-caecale non nulle bien que les caeca soient le lieu principal de dégradation. Toutefois l'implication des GOS dans le bilan énergétique global semble être neutre et ce malgré le fait que l'ingestion d'une quantité «élevée» de GOS accélère le transit intestinal et diminue la digestibilité de la matière sèche. Le profil de fermentation caecal a semblé être influencé de façon dose dépendante et l'ingestion journalière d'une quantité "modérée" de GOS stimule la production d'acides gras à courte chaîne (AGCC) alors que l'ingestion d'une quantité « élevée» diminue la concentration d'AGCC et augmente celle de lactate. Les résultats obtenus au cours de cette thèse ont montré que le principal effet anti-nutritionnel des GOS est de diluer la matière sèche utilisable par l'animal pour sa croissance. Ln the literature the effects of GOS on the nutritive value of a feed are still unclear because, even if GOS are considered as anti-nutritional factors, their presence in a feed is not correlated with a clear reduction of animal performance. A first experiment with concentration of GOS close to that of feed used in the poultry industry could not demonstrate anti-nutritional properties of these molecules. A second type of experiment based on the substitution of basal feed by GOS (replacement method) was performed to evaluate the energetic value of the GOS in vivo and deterrnine their effects on caecal fermentation, intestinal transit time and more generally on the digestibility of the feed. Ln addition an in vitro experiment was carried out to study the influence on the fermentation profile in relation to the quantities of GOS added. The results of the experiments showed that there is substantial pre-caecal disappearance of GOS from the gut, although the principal site of degradation is the caeca. The contribution of GOS to the energetic value of the feed seerns to be neutral despite an acceleration of the intestinal transit and a reduction of the dry matter digestibUity which were observed when high quantities of GOS were ingested. The fermentation pathway in the caeca was influenced dose-dependently a daily intake of "medium quantities" of GOS stirnulated the production of short chain fatty acids (AGCC) while the intake of "high quantities" of GOS decreased the production of AGCC and sti. Rnulated the production of lactate. The results obtained during the thesis showed that the major anti-nutritional consequence of the presenœ of GOS in the feed is a dilution of the digestible dry matter used by the animal for its growth

Dans ce travail, la musique tonale est consideree comme temps structure. Il est propose que l'auditeur moyen percoit la musique en fonction des regles syntaxiques, et decode les relations entre les sons en termes de passages entre moments de tension et detente. Mais la perception musicale ne se reduit pas a ce seul aspect de decodage formel. En effet, l'auditeur se projette dans cette forme temporelle et lui attribue un contenu subjectif. Il est propose que la forme de ce contenu reflete la meme structure temporelle que la musique qui l'a evoque, e n termes de tension, detente et cloture. L'experience effectuee avait deux buts: 1. Verifier si les regles grammaticales gouvernant la musique tonale, qui sont stockees en memoire, guideraient la structuration d'une phrase musicale a partir de segments donnes. Les sujets, tous non-musiciens, ont ete divises e n deux groupes. Leur tache etait de construire une phrase musicale a partir d'accords presentes en ordre aleatoire. Le premier groupe avait des accords pouvant etre juxtaposes de facon a creer une phrase conforme aux normes de la musique tonale. Le deuxieme groupe avait des segments comprenant u n element de tension qui rendrait impossible la construction d'une telle phrase. 2. Par l'ecriture d'un recit qui va avec la phrase musicale construite, o n voulait voir si les structures des recits des deux groupes refleteraient les differences formelles des phrases musicales. Les resultats confirment les hypotheses: des auditeurs non-musiciens tendent a construire des phrases musicales directionnelles et fermees, lorsque le stimulus le permet. Lorsque le stimulus ne le permet pas, il n'y a pas de patterns de reponse typique. Les structures des recits reproduisent le deroulement temporel global des phrases musicales. Le parallele entre structure musicale et narrative peut contribuer a la comprehension des processus impliques dans la perception musicale, et ceci en termes de structuration du temps.

Les essais montrent que le sol intervient sur la composition du raisin, plus en raison de ses propriétés physiques que par sa nature chimique. Le coefficient de passage des anthocyanes est en relation directe avec l'indice de maturité physiologique des raisins le jour de la récolte.

Des revêtements sol-gel nanocomposites TiO2-SiO2 ont été réalisés à partir de mélanges d'une suspension nanocristalline de TiO2 anatase et de sols polymériques de silice. Ces revêtements présentent une superhydrophilie naturelle, persistante et photo-régénérable. La présence de charges localisées aux interfaces granulaires TiO2-SiO2 est une des hypothèses permettant d'expliquer cette superhydrophilie naturelle. Toutefois des effets de morphologie (rugosité, porosité de surface) sont également connus pour influencer le mouillage. Des études ont été menées pour mettre directement en évidence l'effet intrinsèque des interfaces granulaires. Les études se sont recentrées sur l'effet extrinsèque de paramètres morphologiques susceptibles d'influencer la mouillabilité des revêtements nanocomposites selon des modèles thermodynamiques des surfaces connus. De nouveaux protocoles de synthèse par voie sol-gel ont été mis au point afin d'analyser i/ en quoi la superhydrophilie naturelle et photo-induite des revêtements TiO2-SiO2 pouvait être influencée par des effets de morphologie et de composition, et ii/ en quoi une exacerbation de ces effets via des structurations artificielles pouvaient encore accroître la superhydrophile de surface. Une extrapolation de ces protocoles a également permis d'étudier des revêtements superhydrophobes.

Le rôle de la dysbiose du microbiote intestinal dans la physiopathologie des maladies inflammatoires intestinales est bien identifié chez l'homme et chez le chien. L'objectif de cette thèse est d'explorer la capacité de l'alimentation à réguler l'homéostasie fonctionnelle du microbiote et, in fine, à améliorer la santé de l'hôte. La composition et les fonctionnalités (production d'acides gras à chaine courte, bioconversion des acides biliaires, activités protéolytiques) du microbiote fécal d'un groupe de chiens français (n=28) ont été comparées à celles d'un groupe des chiens semi-errants tunisiens (n=32) révélant des différences significatives. Pour explorer l'impact direct de l'alimentation tout en maintenant un environnement stable, le groupe de chiens tunisiens a été soumis à un essai de changement alimentaire randomisé. Le Groupe 1 (n=10) a conservé ses habitudes alimentaires naturelles de chiens semi errants (chasse, charognes, restes de table). Le Groupe 2 (n=22) a effectué une transition vers un aliment industriel équilibré en croquettes. Les analyses montrent un impact significatif et bénéfique du changement alimentaire sur la composition et les fonctionnalités du microbiote fécal apportant ainsi la preuve que l'alimentation est un levier de modulation majeur, y compris dans un environnement complexe. The aim of this thesis is to explore the ability of diet to regulate the functional homeostasis of the microbiota and, ultimately, to improve host health. The composition and functionalities (production of short chain fatty acids, bioconversion of bile acids, proteolytic activities) of the fecal microbiota of a group of French dogs (n=28) were compared to those of a group of semi stray Tunisian dogs (n=32) revealing significant differences. To explore the direct impact of diet while maintaining a stable environment, the group of Tunisian dogs was subjected to a randomized dietary trial. Group 1 (n=10) maintained their natural eating habits as semi-stray dogs (hunting, carrion, table scraps). Group 2 (n=22) transitioned to a balanced industrial kibble food. The analyses show a significant and beneficial impact of dietary change on the composition and functionalities of the fecal microbiota, thus providing evidence that diet is a major modulator, including in a complex environment. Our work opens the door to the investigation of food as a modulator for treating or preventing inflammatory bowel diseases

Les incidences de la nutrition azotée et de l'alimentation hydrique de la vigne sur la maturation des raisins et sur la synthèse des anthocyanes dans les pellicules ont été étudiées sur des plants de Vitis vinifera L. Cv. Merlot. Les expérimentations ont été conduites sur des plants cultivés au vignoble (variations simultanées des disponibilités en eau et en azote induites par un enherbement permanent) et en serre en hydroponique (boutures fructifères et plants en pots de deux ans). La maturation du raisin est favorisée par la limitation de la nutrition azotée et par la réduction de l'alimentation hydrique des vignes. Notre travail met également en évidence des interactions de la nutrition azotée et de l'alimentation hydrique avec l'ensemble de l'alimentation minérale de la vigne (en particulier P et K). Une alimentation hydrique réduite ou une nutrition limitée en azote stimulent la synthèse d'anthocyanes tandis qu'un niveau d'azote très élevé semble inhiber cette synthèse. Cet effet inhibiteur n'est pas observé sous contrainte hydrique. Les alimentations hydrique et azotée exercent donc probablement un contrôle sur l'activité d'une ou de plusieurs enzymes impliquées dans les premières étapes de la voie de biosynthèse des anthocyanes. Les niveaux de nutrition azotée et d'alimentation hydrique conduisent à des profils d'anthocyanes différents. La réduction de l'alimentation hydrique favorise la synthèse des dérivés de la malvidine. A l'inverse, une diminution de la nutrition azotée limite leur synthèse. Ces facteurs environnementaux semblent agir différemment sur les enzymes impliquées dans la synthèse des différentes formes d'anthocyanes. Les différents profils observés pourraient également être le fait de l'activation ou de la limitation du catabolisme des anthocyanes. Au vignoble, le niveau de réponse de la vigne (en particulier en termes de synthèse des anthocyanes) dépend essentiellement des conditions climatiques de l'année (millésime), du terroir et du mode d'entretien du sol<br>We studied the effect of nitrogen nutrition and water deficit on the ripening of berries and on anthocyanins biosynthesis in the berry skins of Merlot vines (Vitis vinifera L. ) The experiments have been performed either on vines cultivated in vineyard (permanent grass cover allowed simultaneous variation of nitrogen and water supply) or under controlled environmental conditions (grapevine fruiting cuttings and two-year-old potted vines). Better berry ripening was observed under nitrogen or water limited supply. Our work showed interactions between nitrogen nutrition and water supply and the whole mineral nutrition of vines (especially P and K). Under reduced water and nitrogen nutrition, an increase of anthocyanins skin content was observed while a high nitrogen supply seemed to inhibit the anthocyanins synthesis. However, this latter effect was not observed under watering constraint. Our results suggest that water and nitrogen supply have a regulatory effect on the activity of the enzymes involved in the first steps of anthocyanins pathway. Different profiles of the anthocyanins species were obtained depending on the levels of nitrogen nutrition and watering supply. The synthesis of the malvidin derivatives was increased by a reduced water supply and was decreased by a limited nitrogen nutrition. The environmental factors seem to act differently on the esterification steps of anthocyanins biosynthesis. A regulation of the anthocyanins catabolism has to be considered too. In the vineyard, the level of anthocyanins biosynthesis depends essentially on the climatic conditions of the year (vintage), the "Terroir" effect and the cultural practices

Ces capteurs utilisent le coeur des fibres optiques constitué majoritairement de silice (SiO2) pour sonder la température ou les déformations sur des parcours plurikilométriques de fibres. A cette fin, les rétrodiffusions Raman et Brillouin dans les fibres optiques sont utilisées, la diffusion Raman étant sensible aux variations de température et la diffusion Brillouin aux variations de température et de déformation. L'intensité de diffusion Raman peut-être exaltée au contact de nanostructures de métaux nobles, par l'intermédiaire de l'effet SERS (Diffusion Raman Exaltée de Surface) faisant intervenir notamment la résonance plasmon de surface (SPR), oscillation collective des électrons libres à la surface métallique générant une large amplification du champ électrique local. L'intégration de nanostructures métalliques dans les fibres optiques pourrait permettre d'augmenter l'intensité de rétrodiffusion Raman et améliorer les performances des CFO (sensibilité, temps d'intégration…). Une étude sur des échantillons modèles, constitués de substrats SERS nanostructurés d'or et recouvert de silice par dépôt sol-gel, est présentée dans ce manuscrit. These sensors use optical fiber cores mainly composed of silica (SiO2) to probe temperature or strain on multi-kilometer route fibers. To measure these effects, Raman and Brillouin backscattering in optical fibers are used, Raman scattering being sensitive to temperature variations and Brillouin scattering to temperature and strain variations. Raman scattering intensity may be enhanced in conjunction with noble metal nanostructures via the SERS effect (Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering) which involves surface plasmon resonance (SPR), a collective oscillation of free electrons at the metal surface generating a large amplification of the local electric field. The integration of metallic nanostructures in optical fibers could increase Raman backscattering intensity and improve FOS performance (sensitivity, integration time…). A study on model samples has been performed with SERS substrates consisting of gold nanostructures and coated with a sol-gel oxide deposition (TiO2, SiO2). AbstractSchool improvement research is faced with a school teaching staff, which is not a simple homogeneous entity. The compositional attributes of the teaching staff – such as diversity – can have a crucial influence on school processes. Whether the teaching staff is highly fractured, consists of sharply dissociated subgroups, or has shared beliefs, affects the adoption of school improvement programs differently. However, school improvement research has not yet taken into account what different compositions of the teaching staff mean from a methodological viewpoint. It is true that the use of multilevel analysis is standard in school improvement research and that it considers nested school data. However, this method alone only takes averaged measures of teaching staffs into consideration but not their different compositions. In this contribution, we argue that school improvement research has to consider, theoretically and methodologically, how compositional attributes of the teaching staff can be conceptualized. We first discuss some advancements in the conceptualization of group composition from research on small groups and organizations. We then incorporate suggestions for different diversity typologies from small group research to describe the compositional attributes of the teaching staff. Additionally, we address how the composition of the teaching staff influences each teacher differently, depending on the specific position a teacher has within the teaching staff. We further suggest incorporating the Group Actor-Partner Interdependence Model (GAPIM; Kenny, DA, Garcia RL, Small Group Res 43:468–496, 2012) as a methodological approach for assessing these compositional influences. In addition to classic multilevel analysis, the GAPIM also considers the effects of the other teachers on staff and the similarity and dissimilarity of a teacher to the other members of the teaching staff. Finally, we illustrate the possibilities of the theoretical and methodological endorsements discussed by applying the GAPIM to a data set of 37 German upper secondary schools by way of example. We show that a teacher’s job satisfaction is not only influenced by their individual and collective teacher self-efficacy but also by positional effects: The similarity of a teacher to the other teachers on staff and the similarity among the other members of the teaching staff have additional influences on job satisfaction.

Abstract The effects of chemical composition and heat treatment on the creep properties of ASME Grade 91 type steel were experimentally investigated using materials whose chemical compositions and heat treatment conditions in the steel making process were completely controlled. Regarding chemical composition, only the Al, Cr, and Ni contents were systematically varied while keeping the contents of the other elements and heat treatment conditions constant. Regarding heat treatment, the normalizing and tempering temperatures were varied while keeping the contents of chemical components constant. The creep tests of materials were performed for approximately up to 50,000 h at 650°C. The creep strength of Grade 91 type steel decreased with increasing Al content under the test conditions of short-term to long-term range. On the other hand, the effect of Cr content on the creep life of Grade 91 type steel depended on the stress or time range, and the creep strength of the steel decreased at high Cr contents under test conditions of only the longterm range. No effect of Ni content on the creep life of the materials was observed in the test data obtained in this study. As creep tests are currently being conducted at 625°C and 60 MPa, which are conditions closer to the actual service conditions of main steam piping at ultra-super critical power plants, the creep deformation data at present indicate that the above trends hold true in the long-term range. Regarding the effect of heat treatment, the creep life of the materials tended to increase with increasing normalizing temperature or decreasing tempering temperature. The results obtained in this work indicate that within the scope of the material standards for Grade 91 type steel, the effect of chemical composition on creep life is greater than that of heat treatment.

L’analyse économique proposée vise à mettre en lisibilité les différentes forces contribuant à ce déploiement. Elle interroge également les trajectoires futures de l’hydrogène au regard des politiques énergie-climat qui devraient être mises en œuvre, notamment par référence au coût de ces politiques et au financement de la transition énergétique. Dans un premier temps, nous proposons un cadre d’analyse pour étudier les effets volume, composition et qualité associés au déploiement. Ensuite, nous présentons les scénarios énergétiques proposés par le GIEC (2018) et l’évolution associée des sources énergétiques de production de l’hydrogène. Dans un troisième temps, nous évaluons quelles pourraient être le niveau et la composition de la demande mondiale d’hydrogène à l’horizon 2050.

Mechanical testing was performed to determine the influence of compositional changes on the Young’s modulus and hardness of half-Heusler compounds of the base composition Zr0.5Hf0.5CoSb0.99Sn0.01. In the efforts to decrease the thermal conductivity of the composition toward the development of thermoelectric materials with high thermal conversion efficiencies, specimens were fabricated with varying amounts of rhodium and iridium at the cobalt site. In addition to the general Zr0.5Hf0.5CoSb0.99Sn0.01 composition, six hot-pressed samples of the Zr0.5Hf0.5CoxRh1−xSb0.99Sn0.01 (0.0≤x≤1.0) composition and four hot-pressed samples of the Zr0.5Hf0.5CoxIr1−xSb0.99Sn0.01 (0.0≤x≤0.7) composition were synthesized. Indentation measurements were obtained using both microhardness testing and depth-sensing nanoindentation. The general Zr0.5Hf0.5CoSb0.99Sn0.01 composition was observed to have a hardness and elastic modulus around 896HV0.2 and 247GPa, respectively. For all of the compositions tested the hardness range was observed to lie between 347HV0.2 and 951HV0.2. The elastic moduli for these compositions were found to range between 97GPa and 247GPa. The effects of the rhodium substitution and iridium substitution at the cobalt site on the elastic stiffness and hardness are examined.

Abstract Accurate estimates of reservoir mole compositions are important for developing accurate fluid models and fluid initialization. However, because of the limitations of the methods used for compositional analysis, a complex mathematical procedure is used to estimate the reservoir from several other measured and estimated properties. The method for compositional analysis has several potential sources of uncertainties, from measurement errors and calculational errors. Compositional variations can have a significant impact on phase behavior calculations, which can have impacts on downstream estimates. Examples of processes that can be impacted include fluid model development, composition initialization (resulting wrong in place estimates), to surface oil volumetric rates. This article systematically introduces the sources of compositional errors for a wide range of fluid types and shows the impact on the phase behavior calculations. Based on this analysis, qualitative guidelines can be made on what compositional uncertainties have the biggest impact on the different fluid types and phase behavior properties.

Abstract Multi-phase compositional wellbore flow is important in determining the flow and pressure drop in oil, gas, and geothermal wells. These effects become increasingly important in long laterals with multiple locations for fluid influx. Complex hydrocarbon phase behavior such as change in the number of phases, phase flipping, gas slippage can happen in the wellbore because of changes in pressure, temperature and inflow fluid rate and composition along the wellbore. This paper introduces a new wellbore model which integrates fully compositional fluid flow with an energy balance and pipe fractional-flow theory with multiple points of fluid entry along the wellbore. Four sets of governing equations: component mass conservation, momentum conservation (pipe fractional flow theory), composition conservation and energy balance are solved fully implicitly along the wellbore. This is then fully implicitly coupled with the flow and energy balance equations in the reservoir and fracture domains. The primary unknowns along the wellbore (total flow rate, hydrocarbon component composition, water saturation, pressure, and temperature) can then be obtained. Flash calculations are used to calculate the hydrocarbon phase saturation, density, viscosity, etc. and the flow rate of each phase is obtained from the fractional flow theory given the local flow rate and saturations. In the first case, we study the reservoir-wellbore flow in a gas condensate reservoir with 16 hydrocarbon components. As the pressure drops, an oil phase drops out of the single phase gas condensate, first in the wellbore and then in the reservoir. In a second case, we simulate CO2 flooding in a black-oil reservoir. Reservoir cooling is observed near the injection wellbore and an increased CO2 composition is observed in the produced oil from the production wellbore. In the third case, we study a low permeability volatile oil reservoir with 14 hydrocarbon components. Production from a hydraulically fractured horizontal wellbore is simulated considering the reservoir-fracture-wellbore flow. We observe that as the pressure drops in the wellbore, gas is liberated from the oil phase and this changes the wellbore pressure drop considerably. The lighter component compositions decrease with time while the heavier component compositions increase with time because of the liquid holdup effect. In the fourth case, we showcase a stand-alone wellbore model integrated with point sources. This paper fully integrates a pipe-fractional flow formulation with compositional wellbore flow, and an energy balance for the first time. This allows the model to be used directly with compositional reservoir simulators. The wellbore mesh is automatically generated and coupled with the reservoir/fracture mesh to allow for an integrated and seamless simulation from the reservoir to the surface facility. This model allows engineers to accurately account for the pressure drop and phase behavior within the wellbore when simulating the production/injection of complex fluids.

This article introduces and establishes a relationship between jet fuel properties/composition and smoke emission. It is an important and comprehensive task as it underlines the base references and scientific reasoning on fuel compositions / properties; very few, if any, studies have investigated the effects of each of the properties/ compositions on smoke emissions. Two sets of fuels were tested on small re-commissioned Honeywell GTCP85 APU gas turbine Engine. The first set was consisted of 8 novel fuels, while the second was a blend of varied percentages of Jet A-1 and other alternative fuel. This is to provide a wide range of properties and compositions. The results were compared to those of Jet A-1on the same platform (Honeywell GTCP85 APU). It was observed that not all fuel compositions/properties have the same effects on the smoke number. Some of them such as: Specific Energy, Kinematic, viscosity, Biphenyls, monocycloparaffin, AlkylBenzene, Fluorenes, Distillation temp (90%), Carbon (%mass), Naphthalene, Composite Density, Benzocycloparaffin, Density at 15C°, Aromatics (%Vol) and Net heat of Combustion have a clear direct effect on the smoke number, while others such as iso-paraffin and flashpoint have a reduced impact on smoke number. This data shall be used to predict the effect of certain composition/ property on the smoke emission, thus it could be avoided or to be taking into considerations when producing or using new alternative fuels.

Abstract Bioprinting technology has a great potential in the fields of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. In tissue engineering, for a bioprinted tissue to be successful in supporting regeneration of new tissue, it should morphologically mimic the native tissue in vivo. Therefore, the bioprinted tissue needs to be dimensionally accurate. In extrusion-based bioprinting, 3D printing process parameters and bioink properties affect dimensional accuracy of printed constructs. Currently, little information is available on effects of bioink composition and printing direction on dimensional accuracy of 3D printed constructs using alginate:methylcelluolose based bioink. In this study, strands were printed using four compositions of alginate:methylcellulose bioink and two printing directions. The four compositions of alginate:methylcellulose bioink were 1:1.5, 1:2, 1:2.5 and 1:3, and the two printing directions were vertical and horizontal. The statistical analysis of strand width measurement data revealed that while bioink composition has significant effect, printing direction does not affect the strand width of 3D printed constructs at the significance level of 0.05.

Résumé L’année 2023 a été marquante pour l’industrie forestière québécoise alors que plus de 1 000 000 d’hectares de forêt ont été ravagés par les feux. La transformation du bois brûlé soulève de nombreuses questions sur la santé et la sécurité des travailleurs, notamment sur la manière de mesurer l’exposition aux poussières de bois brûlé dans les scieries. Sachant qu’il n’existe pas de méthode permettant d’évaluer spécifiquement l’exposition professionnelle aux poussières de bois brûlé, l’objectif principal de ce rapport consiste à effectuer une revue de la littérature pour déterminer leur composition. Selon cette composition, des méthodes de prélèvement et d’analyse pourraient être suggérées, puis des effets potentiels sur la santé des travailleurs pourraient être identifiés. Pour la revue de la littérature, aucun article traitant spécifiquement des poussières de bois brûlé (issu de feux de forêt) n’a été repéré. Toutefois, 13 articles sur la composition du bois torréfié et des biochars ont été retenus pour analyse, car ces matériaux se rapprochent du bois brûlé manipulé par les travailleurs. Le principal constat de ces articles est que la composition du bois torréfié et des biochars dépend des conditions de combustion (température, durée, présence d’oxygène, etc.) et du substrat de bois (espèce d’arbre et conditions de croissance). L’hétérogénéité de ces conditions lors des feux de forêt fait que la composition du bois brûlé manipulé par les travailleurs est très variable. Il s’agit d’une limite importante pour tirer des conclusions bien définies. Plusieurs groupes de composés ont été identifiés et mesurés dans le bois torréfié et les biochars, notamment la composition chimique élémentaire, les oxydes, les hydrocarbures aromatiques polycycliques (HAP), le pourcentage de matière organique et les métaux. Dans les biochars de bois, qui sont du charbon de bois, les résultats ont révélé qu’ils sont principalement composés de carbone issu de la dégradation de la cellulose, de l’hémicellulose et de la lignine. Les oxydes et les métaux sont présents dans le bois brûlé, mais dominent dans les cendres. Les HAP sont présents en faible quantité ou sous les limites de détection des méthodes utilisées. D’après ces résultats, il est suggéré de poursuivre la surveillance habituelle de la qualité de l’air dans les scieries. De plus, en présence de bois brûlé, les mesures suivantes sont recommandées : Fraction inhalable des particules (mesure gravimétrique non spécifique); HAP; Métaux. Aucun seuil d’exposition acceptable ne peut être proposé pour les poussières de bois brûlé en raison du manque de données sur les effets sur la santé. De plus, aucun indicateur spécifique ne peut être recommandé pour le suivi de l’exposition aux poussières de bois brûlé étant donné la variabilité de la composition de la poussière. La revue de la littérature n’a pas apporté d’information précise ni robuste concernant les effets potentiels supplémentaires des poussières de bois brûlé sur la santé comparativement aux poussières de bois sain. Selon les sources consultées, les poussières de bois brûlé sont peu documentées et non réglementées (incluant le Règlement sur la santé et la sécurité du travail). La documentation et la caractérisation plus détaillées des expositions à ces poussières par des évaluations environnementales en hygiène du travail permettraient d’identifier des contaminants dont les effets sur la santé mériteraient des actions préventives spécifiques afin de prévenir des atteintes néfastes sur la santé chez les travailleurs exposés aux poussières de bois brûlé.

Literature is reviewed for the impacts of variable natural gas composition on two-stroke lean burn pipeline compressor engines. Information gathered for these engines can be simplified for development of control algorithms in four-stroke and richer burning engines. Data shows that geospatial, geological, and transient hydraulic effects cause composition variations that adversely affect engine emissions, efficiency, rated performance, and operational safety considering auto-ignition effects. In order to compensate for these changes in composition, better engine control schemes can help meet desired performance goals. For specific gas compositions combusting at a fixed air-fuel ratio, the laminar flame speed, adiabatic flame temperature, and ignition delay relate to and allow the prediction of the mixture�s reactivity, thermal availability, and auto-ignition tendency. Predicting changes in these combustion parameters, as caused by changes in fuel composition, is essential to the success of control development for variable composition engine operation. In addition to addressing the associated combustion effects resulting from variable fuel composition, an overview of sensor technologies is presented for use in control applications.

The ultimate goal of this work is to improve the current control methods for large bore, lean burn natural gas engines in order to combat performance and emissions issues during variable fuel composition events. This will be achieved in the long term by simulating the effects of variable fuel composition on a large bore, natural gas engine and developing engine control strategies which work to mitigate adverse effects. The work of Phase IV adds onto previous work by enabling the prediction of NOxemissions in the validated, full-scale engine simulation of a Cooper-Bessemer GMWH-10C developed in Phase III. A sweep of fuel composition was also performed to assess the effect that variable fuel composition has on in-cylinder properties and NOxemissions. Engine-out NOxwas predicted via a chemical kinetic mechanism which was implemented into the existing engine simulation. The mechanism dictates the composition of combustion products in each cylinder, including NO and NO2(NOx). NOxlevels were measured at the simulation exhaust to compare with the experimental NOxdata acquired as part of the data collection carried out in Phase III of this project. The prediction was tuned in order to achieve the closest prediction to real measured NOxvalues. A preliminary sweep of fuel composition was completed by varying the mole fractions of ethane and propane within the natural gas compositions used in the simulation. Changes in in-cylinder pressure, location of peak pressure, in-cylinder temperature, and engine-out NOxwere evaluated based on their trend-wise behavior and compared qualitatively to expected results.

This project was undertaken to examine reports that low sulphur steels were more prone to hydrogen-induced cracking than steels with higher sulphur contents. The susceptibility to hydrogen-induced cracking of the root pass and the baseplate was evaluated using the high restraint cracking test developed at the Welding Institute of Canada, using two different edge configurations. The steels used in this study, containing 0.0024 and 0.0109 percent sulphur, were laboratory heats provided by Nippon Steel Corporation. Their compositions were typical of Nb-V. X70 linepipe steels and were essentially of the same nominal composition.

This is the final report summarizing work completed during the first phase of the PRCI study on large bore two stroke lean burn integral compressor engine response to variable natural gas compositions for the purposes of engine control development. Accomplished tasks include the completion of a detailed literature review covering the research topic, a parametric study of laminar flame speeds and ignition delays for binary methane and ethane mixtures up to 30%, and a GT-Power engine model of the Colorado State GMV-4 research engine with associated validation data from CSU�s variable ethane effects study. The chemistry of the combustion reaction is crucial to accurate modeling; laminar flame speeds and ignition delays as function of composition were determined from the solutions to published chemical kinetics mechanisms GRI-Mech3.0 and Saudi Aramco Mech1.3, respectively. The Wiebe coefficients correlated to variations in ethane composition and spark timing were regressed from the crank angle resolved heat release rates. The Wiebe coefficients are the most significant achievement of this phase of the project, since they quantify the heat release as a function of composition. At this time, the Wiebe parameters only reflect the relative changes in the model since certain aspect of the models geometry are pending resolution. Future phases of the project could use the developed GT-Power model and Wiebe coefficients for development of control schemes that maintain emissions, speed and torque limits, and maximize thermal efficiency during a variable fuel composition event.

This paper studies whether changes in the composition of public spending affect the macroeconomic consequences of fiscal consolidations. Based on a sample of 44 developing countries and 26 advanced economies during 1980-2019, results show that while fiscal consolidations tend to be on average, contractionary, the size of the output fall depends on the behavior of public investment vis-a-vis public consumption during the fiscal adjustment, with heterogeneous responses growing over time. When public investment is penalized relative to public consumption and thus, its share in public expenditures decreases, a 1 percent of GDP consolidation reduces output by 0.7 percent within three years of the fiscal shock. In contrast, safeguarding public investment from budget cuts vis-a-vis public consumption can neutralize the contractionary effects of fiscal adjustments on impact, and can even spur output growth over the medium term. The component of GDP that mostly drives the heterogeneity between both types of adjustments is private investment. The results hold up to a number of robust-ness tests, including alternative identification strategies of fiscal shocks.
