This study empirically examines the relation between supplier-base concentration and inventory efficiency in the Chinese manufacturing sector. Using hand-collected data from annual reports during 2007–2015, the authors find that manufacturers with a more concentrated supplier base hold fewer inventories, and the efficiency primarily flows through the raw materials and work-in-process inventory accounts. The authors find that small firms benefit more from a concentrated supplier base in inventory efficiency than large firms do. The authors also find that the positive effect of supplier-base con

Abstract Creating continuous workflow and reducing variability of construction processes is one of the essential principles of Takt Time system. The Takt Time Planning is a powerful lean tool that creates a continuous flow of people, materials, and resources, therefore it is recognized as a technology with great potential for process innovation in construction. A takt is a demand-driven pace or rhythm of work, which ensures that professionals work at the same speed to free up workspace within standard time frames, leading to a more optimized production process. This study discusses the practice of raw material inventory management in a precast concrete company that uses an order-based production system. The aim is to evaluate the potential for implementing the Just in Time (JIT) concept to improve operational efficiency. This study uses a qualitative method with an ethnomethodology approach, through interviews, observations, and documentation to explore daily operational practices in depth. The results show that inventory management still depends on customer demand, but faces challenges such as repeated negotiations with vendors, testing materials be

Inventory ensures stability of the production technical system. Production facilities have warehouses for workpieces to create final output parts, and warehouses for finished products to meet customer demand. Stocks of workpieces avoid manufacturing downtime. Stocks of finished products make it possible to meet demand in a timely manner and avoid penalties for late deliveries of finished products to consumers. On the other hand, the objects that make up the inventory are «dead» material resources that do not bring profit and negatively affect economic efficiency and competitiveness.
