Abstract:
For the English full text of the article please see the attached PDF-File (English version follows Russian version).ABSTRACT Reducing costs in material flow of goods as a result of optimization of parameters of cargo movement in automotive transport and logistics systems requires the development of a mathematical apparatus, adapted to the task. Its most complete solution can be obtained if the problem is considered as multi-criteria. The article presents a formalized structure of criteria, allowing to optimize the interaction of objects of the logistics infrastructure of transport and warehouse services and freight road transportation. The choice of criteria for efficiency of the transport and logistics system (TLS) is based on effective indicators, which in turn are determined taking into account the indicators of the use of the means of production in certain conditions of the operating environment. The criteria system considered in the article is a decomposition of the hierarchy of TLS criteria that determine the organization of freight road transportation (FRT) and functioning of transport and storage complexes (TSC). The choice of performance criteria is based on the effective indicators of FRT and TSC, which in turn take into account the indicators of the use of means of production in the conditions of the environment of operation. Integration of FRT and TSC criteria into a single structure allows to solve multiple tasks. Keywords: transport and logistics system, road freight transportation, transport and warehouse complex, management, efficiency criteria, performance indicators, operating environment, indicators of the use of means of production.

Abstract:
Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) play a fundamental role in reducing congestion, reducing traffic accidents and improving road safety. Proper evaluation of the effectiveness of these systems is an urgent task in terms of improving the performance of the entire transport network, and the development of a set of evaluation indicators will make it possible to make managerial decisions on planning the development of intelligent transport systems. To test the hypotheses about the possibility of using indicators to assess the effectiveness of ITS, a one-sample t-test was used, during the analysis it was found that the proposed indicators «environmental friendliness and safety», «reliability of the transport network», «competitiveness of public transport» are suitable for assessing intelligent transport systems

Abstract:
The study is devoted to the process of evaluating the efficiency of the transport system in terms of urban mobility. The approach is based on the use of a system of performance indicators using neurocomputer technologies. Generalized models for obtaining a vector of performance indicators and an integral performance indicator in the form of computer neural networks are proposed. It is shown that to record the fact that the indicator values fall to the threshold and below, it is enough to use a neural network built on perceptron neurons. The multi-layered model for determining the integral indicator allows assessing the importance of individual indicators in the system of monitoring the efficiency of a given configuration of the transport system. An experimental study of twenty-five states of the transport system of various configurations in the cities of Poland and Ukraine was carried out. The key indicators of the system's efficiency are determined, namely, the energy efficiency indicator of the vehicle as a system element, the environmental indicator and the traffic safety indicator. Based on the results of the experimental study, a neural network structure is proposed for evaluating the energy efficiency of given configurations of the transport system. For the purpose of training and testing the obtained network, the procedure of adjusting the threshold value of the activation function and normalizing the values of the input parameters array of the transport system was used. The constructed network was implemented using Visual Studio 2019 using the C++ language. The network was adjusted to determine the energy efficiency estimate with a given accuracy by replacing the perceptron neuron with a regular one with a sigmoidal activation function. The random nature of the choice of the configuration and the initial values of the weighting factors made it possible to obtain a model with an accuracy of implementation on the control sample in the range from 90 to 98.7% at a learning rate of 0.1.

Abstract:
Transport accident statistics and practical safety results indicate that technological solutions cannot ensure the viability (safety, sustainability, reliability and efficiency) of complex systems and structures without addressing human factors. This problem is especially acute for transport systems as highly complex technological and social structures aimed at ensuring the efficiency and safety of an entire sphere of human life. In transportation systems and technologies, the human factor plays a critical role. The successful operation of transport systems requires consideration of the human factor at all levels – starting from the development, design and planning of systems and technologies, training and education to the involvement of society in decision-making processes. Therefore, it is essential to develop the concept of human factor management and analyze the main problems in transport systems associated with the human factor to improve the safety, reliability and efficiency of their functioning. The article is devoted to the analysis of the human factor problem in transport systems and the search for solutions to manage it. The purpose of the article is to analyze the main problems in transport systems associated with the human factor and to develop the concept of human factor management for further search for solutions to improve the safety and reliability of transport systems. A set of instruments was proposed in the study to achieve the goal and solve the set tasks. Problems connected to the human factor in transport systems were analyzed. The main directions for solving problems with the influence of the human factor on the safety of transport systems were systematized. The main principles, models and ways of developing the concept of managing the human factor problem in complex systems, including transport, were outlined. A systematization of the risk management strategy was proposed. A matrix for the relationship between risk management strategies and approaches to managing the safety of complex systems was proposed. Abstract:
The intellectualization of water transport is accompanied by an expansion of the landscape of threats to transport security, caused by the characteristics and weaknesses of the technologies being introduced, which are the convergence of information and telecommunication technologies, automated and automatic control technologies and artificial intelligence. The peculiarity of these technologies is working with large volumes of information. Violation of the security of information processed in intelligent systems of water transport (illegal access, modification, deletion and similar unauthorized influence) causes a violation of transport security and, as a consequence, the security of critical information infrastructure and the country’s critical infrastructure, national security. Convergent technologies used in intelligent transport systems are characterized by multiple and poorly formalized manifestations of the consequences of threats. The article presents a model for assessing the risks of information security of intelligent water transport systems, based on the methods of the theory of fuzzy sets and fuzzy logic, the use of which makes it possible to take into account the above-mentioned features of the technologies being implemented. The hierarchical structure of the model and the use of fuzzy set theory and fuzzy logic methods make it possible to adapt the model to various risk criteria, types of input data and the level of detail of risk analysis. For the presented model, a methodology for assessing information security risks has been developed and an example of risk calculation is given. The developed model and methodology are intended to build an information security risk management system for autonomous shipping, implementing technologies of hybrid (augmented, extended) intelligence, providing for the use of artificial intelligence controlled by people.

Abstract:
Gear pumps are widely used in transport machines not only in hydraulic drive systems, but also in lubrication and fuel systems. A positive displacement pump converts mechanical energy into pressure energy stored in the liquid, which it transports to the hydraulic cylinder or motor. The efficiency of this process depends on the efficiency of the system components, including the efficiency of the pump, which depends on the amount of internal leakage through the gaps between the high and low pressure sides. The larger the gaps, the lower the volumetric efficiency. This article presents an investigations of impact of pump deformations on circumferential gap height. The article presents a three-dimensional model of an external gear pump using Finite Element Method (FEM) during operating conditions. The model reflects pumping operation at discharge pressures up to 32 MPa and it was validated against strain measurements of pump casing. The simulation results indicate that the pump casing becomes deformed due to pressure, causing a significant increase in the height of the circumferential gap. The increase of the discharge pressure from 8 to 32 MPa causes more than twofold local increase in the height of the circumferential gap. The obtained results indicate that for the correct modelling of the flow generated by gear pumps, it is necessary to consider the change in the size of the gaps resulting from the deformation of the pump.

Abstract:
The article examines the role and efficiency of air transport within integrated logistics systems, emphasizing its strategic function in ensuring speed, reliability, and global connectivity in multimodal supply chains. Air transport is positioned as a critical component that facilitates rapid movement of time-sensitive and high-value goods, particularly in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, electronics, and e-commerce. The article identifies and analyses the core advantages of air freight, including short delivery times, high schedule predictability, secure handling, and the ability to serve geographically isolated regions. In addition to highlighting these strengths, the study also outlines the main limitations of air transport, such as high operational costs, limited cargo capacity, infrastructure dependency, environmental concerns, and strict regulatory requirements. Special attention in the article is given to the integration of digital technologies and the application of the AeroSync model as an innovative conceptual framework aimed at improving operational efficiency and supporting decision-making in air logistics. The model systematizes key components of the logistics process–input factors, constraints, integration mechanisms, and performance outcomes–and serves as a scalable and versatile tool for logistics companies seeking to optimize multimodal transportation involving air freight. The study includes an in-depth analysis of real-world implementation practices by leading international logistics firms such as SEKO Logistics, Omni Logistics, Noatum Logistics, and Logistics Plus. These case studies illustrate the effectiveness of combining air transport with digital platforms, analytical tools, and strategic planning to achieve higher levels of control, adaptability, and competitiveness in a global logistics environment. The findings confirm that air transport, despite its challenges, remains indispensable in modern global logistics and that its performance can be significantly enhanced through structured integration models and smart technology adoption.

Abstract:
The thesis focuses on evaluating and improving the transport efficiency of two types of logistics operations in the supply chain. One research area is the production of raw material in construction operations, specifically earthmoving operations. Methods and tools are developed to provide decision support in improving the transport efficiency of earthmoving at the vehicle and the systems levels. Using known road topography and a GPS unit, an optimal control problem is formulated and solved (Paper III) to determine the optimal gear shift sequence and timing in order to improve the transport efficiency at the vehicle level. For decision support at the systems level, a Fleet Performance Simulation (FPS) model is designed (Paper IV) to evaluate the transport efficiency for a given mix of construction vehicles in earthmoving. The FPS system is integrated with an optimization algorithm to solve the optimal fleet composition problem for earthmoving operations (Paper V &amp; VI). Construction operations are dynamic and the environment is changing constantly, which bring difficulties in decision-making. Using GPS data from construction vehicles, a map inference framework (Papers I &amp; II) is developed to automatically extract relevant input to decision support at the vehicle and the systems levels, which include the locations of various workstations, driving time distributions and road networks. The second research area is the transport efficiency of urban distribution system, which is in the final phase of the supply chain. An off-peak delivery pilot project in Stockholm is used as the background, designed to evaluate the potential for commercial vehicles to make use of off-peak hours for goods delivery. The thesis (Paper VII) evaluates the transport efficiency impacts of the off-peak pilot. An evaluation framework is defined where transport efficiency is studied in a number of dimensions. GPS data, fleet management data, and logistic information are used to assess the impacts.<br><p>QC 20170323</p>

Abstract:

Abstract:
On the basis of the research, it was established that the use of "green" technologies in the aviation transport of Ukraine is an indispensable innovative solution for preserving natural resources and reducing its negative impact on ecosystems. An important tool for ensuring "green" growth is the formation of an effective system of environmental management of airlines and the introduction of a flexible environmental policy, taking into account the specific conditions of operation. It should be noted that due to state support in this direction it is possible to create a "clean" highly productive sector and obtain financial and economic benefits from its functioning.<br>In the process of analyzing the current trends in green development in the aviation industry globally,it can be confidently state that trends have significant potential for increasing the productivity and efficiency of the aviation industry. "Green" technologies, combining in time with fundamentally different approaches, serve as a way to a clean trajectory characterized by higher resource efficiency and "resilience" to the growth of adverse external influences. This means that "green" technologies not only relate to the achievement of environmental friendliness, environmentalization of technology and activities, but are powerful catalysts for the transition to a new "green" technological structure, transformation of technological spheres of activity, economy and society

Abstract:
Multimedia applications pose new challenges to computer architecture. Their tremendous communication demands severely burden the interconnect between functional units. This dissertation addresses to efficiently transport operands among computational and storage components. It provides architectural enhancements that enable the high bandwidth, low latency communication. This research analyzes multimedia workloads to characterize the communication patterns that occur in the execution of standard multimedia benchmarks. This empirical analysis indicates that most operands exhibit strong locality, enabling several optimizations of transport mechanisms. This empirical study shows that an eight-entry local buffer with approximate information on operand lifetime is sufficient to suppress 81% of operand writes. In addition, chaining selected pairs of FUs based on producer-consumer information allows 50% of reads to be accessed through the shortest path. These results guide the design of two efficient operand transport mechanisms: a traffic-driven bypass network and a dynamic instruction clustering. The traffic-driven bypass network is designed using a novel, systematic design customization process for wide-issue architectures. It is driven by a technology model-based evaluation methodology, resulting in a low cost, high performance bypass network for multimedia applications. This technique places microarchitectural components exploiting the communication patterns, reorganizes bypass paths based on the traffic rate, and maps inter-instruction communication on the local paths. The reduction in transport latency combined with a faster clock cycle achieves an instruction throughput gain of 2.9x over the broadcast bypass network at 45nm. In addition, the throughput gain over a typical clustered architecture is 1.3x. Dynamic instruction clustering groups dependent instructions into clusters during instruction execution, performs operand transport pattern analysis, and maps the clustered instructions to a cluster execution unit. Two execution unit implementations are explored: network ALUs and a dynamically-scheduled SIMD PE array. In the network ALUs, intermediate values are propagated among ALUs without distribution through global bypass buses. The reduction in operand transport latency results in a 35% IPC speedup over a conventional ILP processor. The dynamically-scheduled SIMD PE array supports DLP processing of the innermost loops in image processing applications. Data-parallel operations combined with localized operand communication produce an IPC speedup of 2.59x over a 16-way, four-clustered microarchitecture.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Introduction: Improving efficiency through the supply chain has long been strived for by management. Traditional approaches focus on improving efficiency in the supply chain through optimization of a company’s internal activities, where warehouses play an important role. Companies are therefore dealing with the dilemma of how to increase efficiency in their warehouse, yet at the same time reduce operational costs. Current research focuses on strategies to increase efficiency in conventional warehouses by studying design, operations, and planning. Digitalization and lean warehousing are also emerging as important tools for warehouse efficiency. However, alternative warehouse types exist that are less researched. The research aimed therefore to investigate the challenges warehouses with stock point design face.   Methods: A qualitative and deductive case study approach was chosen. A literature review was first conducted to find the variables defining warehouse efficiency. Interviews and observations were then performed at the case company to investigate how the variables affect efficiency at the case company. Lastly, the theoretical framework was compared to the findings to find strategies to overcome the challenges.  Findings: Efficiency problems can be found in many aspects of the case company´s warehouse. Over time the warehouse has lost its structure, where a lot of reliability for warehouse procedures are placed on the employees and their knowledge about the company and all parts. Because of missing routines for reviewing parts data, changes in generations and parts being revised, are hard to keep track of which causes an effect on efficiency. It also increases the risk of deadstock.  Conclusions: In previous research, few studies could be found where researchers tackle the problems that multiple storage building causes on efficiency. By concluding that seven key variables define warehouse efficiency from previous research and applying them to a warehouse with stock point design, the challenges that an alternative warehouse face through the important variables in warehouse efficiency research could be explained.  All the variables affect efficiency, yet warehouse design has the biggest impact. Because of limited abilities with hand scanners and missing routines for reviewing parts data, operations, movement, and planning can also be concluded to have a high influence on efficiency.  To overcome the challenges, strategies for class-based storage assignment should be applied from the perspective of the storage building limitations. Right conditions for batching and good routines for warehouse procedures and reviewing parts data are also suggested as strategies.

Abstract:
The monograph is devoted to the methodology of material and technical support of railway transport. According to the types of activities, the nature of the material and technical resources used, technologies, means and management systems, Russian railways belong to the category of high-tech industries that must have high quality and technical level, reliability and technological efficiency in operation. For this reason, the logistics system itself, both in structure and in the algorithm of the functions performed as a whole, needs a serious improvement in the quality of its work. The economic situation in Russia requires a revision of the principles and mechanisms of management based on the corporate model of supply chain management, focused on logistics knowledge. In the difficult economic conditions of the current decade, it is necessary to improve the quality of the supply organization of enterprises and structural divisions of railway transport, directly related to the implementation of the process approach, the advantage of which is a more detailed regulation of management actions and their mutual coordination. In order to increase the efficiency of its activities and develop the management system, Russian Railways is developing a lean production system aimed at further expanding the implementation of the principles of customer orientation, ideology and corporate culture.&#x0D; At the present time, the solution of many issues is impossible without a cybernetic approach to the formulation of problems of material and technical support and logistics analysis of information technologies, to the implementation of the developed algorithms and models of development strategies and concepts for improving the business processes of the production system. The management strategy, or the general plan for the implementation of activities for the management of material resources, is based on a fundamental assessment of the alignment and correlation of forces and factors operating in the economic and political field, taking into account the impact on the specific form of the management strategy.&#x0D; The materials will be useful to the heads and specialists of the directorates of the MTO, CDZs and can be used in the scientific research of bachelors, masters and postgraduates interested in the economics of railway transport and supply logistics.

Abstract:
Urban sustainability requires reducing the environmental footprint of urban mobility. To achieve this goal public transport becomes key due to its lower impact on congestion, pollution, accidents and greenhouse gas emissions as compared to private transport. Thus, encouraging public transport use is a frequent goal among city authorities. For this, they often devote an important fraction of their budget to improve the quality of its service. Many cities subsidize not just the infrastructure for public transport, but also its operation based on (some of) the following reasons. 1. As a second-best policy since charging additional fees to automobile drivers to correct negative externalities may be impractical (if the externality is trip specific) or politically unfeasible. 2. Due to the Mohring effect in which the optimal frequency and network density of services grow with the demand. Thus, the waiting and access time drop for every user in the system when the demand grows, implying that the marginal social cost is lower than the average social cost (Mohring, 1972). 3. Following distributional concerns, since often lower income people use public transport more intensively.

Abstract:
Pipeline transmission of liquids, although highly cost effective relative to other means of liquid transport (e.g., on-highway freight vehicles or trains), still encumbers costs with opportunities for improvement. Liquid pumps, serving as the prime mover for liquids in a pipeline, are a chief operating expense for pipeline transmission. A large and diverse set of pump characteristics - both in terms of style, motive force, and age -make it difficult to identify technologies that result in substantial cost savings for the owner / operator of liquid pipeline systems. Thus, characterizing and classifying the various liquid pump technologies, as well as identifying the latest advancements that can enable retrofit and / or new installation improvements for the purpose of reducing operational pump costs and downtime, is crucial. This study identifies the latest advancements that can increase pump efficiency, increase overall system efficiency, and allow for short-term and long-term cost savings.

Želvytė, Julija, and Regina Narkiekė. Cargo Transportation using Modern Technologies at UAB "Kamida". Vilnius Business College, 2024. https://doi.org/10.57005/ab.2024.2.3.

Full text
Abstract:
This article presents the role of integrated technology systems in optimizing cargo transportation processes, focusing mainly on UAB "Kamida". Logistics, especially cargo transportation, is a complex operation involving various activities, during which the efficiency of transportation methods has a significant impact on costs and the quality of customer service. Modern technologies, such as cargo tracking systems, vehicle tracking systems, and order management systems, make it possible to simplify the transportation process and reduce costs. The obtained results showed that UAB "Kamida" uses several technological systems, including Fleet Master, Transport, DVS, Infotrans cargo management systems. However, the lack of integration of these systems creates difficulties in planning routes and drivers' schedules, resulting in increased transportation costs. By systematically organizing information flows and integrating technology systems, UAB Kamida could potentially avoid additional costs related to inefficient route planning and suboptimal utilization of driver's work and rest time. Thus, by investing and effectively applying integrated technological solutions, companies can be given a competitive advantage in the market by increasing transportation efficiency, reducing costs and improving customer service.

Full text
Abstract:
Public urban transportation systems are essential for mitigating climate change, leading policymakers to intensify efforts to boost ridership. However, there is not much evidence showing up to what extent, in regions with high crime rates like Latin America, safety perception could limit these efforts. This paper studies the impact of crime and crime perception on public transport demand across six Latin American capitals. Using a sample of 5,160 participants, we conduct three preregistered experiments to quantify the impact of crime on public transport choices and policy preferences. In the first experiment, we estimate the willingness to pay for safety by offering participants a choice between buses with varying crime rates and fares. We find that users place a substantial premium (51% of the current bus ticket) on safer transport options. The second experiment explores the substitution effect between private and public transport, revealing that higher crime rates diminish the likelihood of choosing public transport, even when offered at a reduced fare. The third experiment examines how crime perception influences public support for different transport policies. Our results show that a higher crime perception shifts support toward crime reduction initiatives at the expense of service efficiency and environmental policies. These results highlight the need for policies that integrate safety improvements to increase public transport ridership and contribute to climate change mitigation.

Abstract:
NOX emissions regulations below 1.0 g/bhp-hr are being implemented in some parts of the country (e.g. Houston). Increasing engine efficiency is one way to increase gas transport. However, a dilemma that often occurs is techniques that reduce NOX emissions often simultaneously decrease engine efficiency. An alternative approach to increasing gas transport is to increase the power output, or brake mean effective pressure (BMEP), of the large bore natural gas engines presently in service. The onset of knock typically limits the maximum power output of spark ignition engines; water injection can eliminate knock and enable a power increase. In this work, the feasibility of in-cylinder water injection is demonstrated as a technique for reducing emissions and increasing BMEP. A water injection system was developed for the Cooper-Bessemer GMV-4TF engine. Two locations for water injection were evaluated, near the spark plug and opposite the spark plug in the end gas. Testing was conducted for both NOx reduction and increasing power.
