Abstract:
Anaerobic/Anoxic/Oxic (A/A/O) process is applied widely in municipal wastewater treatmen plants, which attribute to good perfromance for nutrient removal. However the design parameter of A/A/O process is mainly from experiments based on stable flow rate. So performance parameter of any WWTP must be modified according to actual conditions. Othewise, peformance efficiency of the WWTP can not meet initial design properties and it maybe result in serious energy waste. According to the experiences of start-up, commissioning, operation control and performance test of Anaerobic/Anoxic/Oxic (A/A/O) process in wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), the notions on successful start-up and effective operation are summarized and analyzed. The countermeasures on the variety of influent, the control of DO and sludge system to keep WWTP operating economically and stably are presented.

Abstract:
The objective of the present study was to examined the chewing behaviour of Moa buffalo fed on local forages. The experiment was analysed as Latin square 4 x 4, four treatments and four replicates. The treatments were A (combination of graas and aulumadam), B (grass and knumge, C (grass and weru leaves) and D (grass).Variables measured were chewing during eating (intake rate, chewing rate and efficiency) and chewing during rumination (ruminating rate, time spent ruminating per bolus, rumination efficiency, and regurgitation rate). The result show that intake rate was 31.78, 30.52, 31.99, 32.14 gram/minutes for treatmen A, B, C and D, respectively. Chewing rate (no.of chew/minutes) for A, B, C and D was 50.81, 53.95, 56.50, and 55,67, reapectively, and chewing efficiency (no.of chews/dry weight) was 0.23, 0.31, 0.21, and 0.35 for A, B, C, and D, respectively. Ruminating rate (no of bolus/minutes) was 1.16, 1.06, 1.26, and 1.34 for A. B, C and D, respectively. Ruminating efficiency (no. of chews/bolus) for A, B, C, and D was 37.70, 43.68, 36.48 and 36.24, respectively. Time spent ruminating per bolus was 1.14, 0.96, 0.82. and 0.75 minutes for A, B, C, and D, respectivly, and regurgitation rate (minutes) was 0.16, 0.89, 1.46, and 0.44 for A, B, C, and D, respectively. It can be concluded than Moa buffalo consume all forages with similar rate and efficiency, while chewing rate differ among the the treatments. Chewing rumination is similar among all forages.

Abstract:
The article presents the results of research on the possibility of increasing the recovery factor of oil fields by implementing the waterflooding treatment as one of the most common enhanced oil recovery method. Based on the interpretation of data from the core flow tests, an attempt was made to characterize the displacement process using original reservoir brine and waters with lower salinity level. Additionally, the relation between the type of wettability of the rock and recovery factor was investigated. Original reservoir fluids that were characterized in terms of their basic rheological parameters were used for research purposes. The rock material consisted of 16 samples of Cambrian sandstones. The initial scope of work concerned the petrophysical characteristics of the cores, including the determination of their basic parameters, such as absolute gas permeability, porosity and pore volume. Based on the determined values of permeability, the available samples were grouped which made it possible to perform test sets for pairs with the most similar filtration parameters in the next stages of the research. Further work included the performance of relative permeability analyses and the determination of the value of the mobility factor for the oil – reservoir water system in order to determine the type of wettability of the rock and the potential efficiency of the oil displacement process. The main element of the research was the simulation of the waterflooding process carried out in two parts – the first with the use of the original reservoir water (corresponding to the secondary recovery methods) and the second with the use of low-salinity waters (the third recovery methods) in two variants of the mineralization level. Based on the obtained data of the displaced oil, for each of the displacement medium recovery factor curve were constructed and compared with the determined type of wettability of the rock.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to determine the suitable conservation treatments to control water erosion from skid trails in ShastKalate forests. Two longitudinal slopes of 20-40% and > 40% were considered as critical slopes for skid trails. Treatments of water diversion ruts, water diversion ruts filled with slash and stones were implemented on each slope. A rubber bar was installed at the end of the slope to convert runoff into collectors. Sampling was done during rainfall events in autumn and winter seasons. Findings indicated that the treatment of water diversion ruts filled with slash was better than the other treatments in the control of sediment and soil loss, especially in the slope class of 20–40%. In the slope class of > 40%, there was not any significant difference between treatments in sediment and soil loss control, but generally water diversion ruts filled with slash and stones were better in soil erosion control than water diversion ruts. In both slope classes, the rainfall intensity of 0.11 mm·h–1 (2.64 mm in 24 h) was the threshold of soil erosion on skid trails. The control of water erosion of soil on skid trails by the operation of water diversions is a suitable treatment for conserving skid trails.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Objectives The purpose of this cohort study was to evaluate the effect of self-ligating brackets (SB) and other related factors that influence orthodontic treatment time. Materials and Methods This was a two-armed prospective study. Consecutively treated patients who were recruited from a private practice were enrolled and asked to choose between SB and conventional brackets (CB). If the patient did not have a preference, that patient was randomly allocated. An identical archwire sequence was used, and all patients were treated by a single orthodontist. Treatment duration, number of bracket failures, poor oral hygiene, poor elastic wear, whether or not to orthodontic mini-implants (OMI) were used, OMI failure, extraction, American Board of Orthodontics Discrepancy Index, and arch length discrepancy were measured and statistically analyzed using t-tests, correlation analysis, and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). Stepwise regression analysis was conducted to generate an equation to predict treatment duration. Results A total of 134 patients with an average age of 22.73 years were included. The average treatment duration was 28.63 months. ANCOVA showed no significant difference in treatment duration between CB and SB. Stepwise regression analysis could explain 64.6% of the variance in treatment duration using five variables. Conclusions SB did not exhibit a significant reduction in treatment time as compared with CB. Patient cooperation, extractions, and malocclusion severity had a significant impact on treatment duration.

Abstract:
Chemical seed protectants are used to reduce the adverse effects of seedling fungal pathogens or insect attack on legume pastures and crops. Chickpea seeds are also frequently treated with Mesorhizobium sp. Cicer inoculant to promote effective symbiotic nitrogen fixation (SNF), which seems to be a cost effective measure. The population of viable Mesorhizobium sp. Cicer on seeds of chickpea declined with time of storage (4°C) in pesticide treated and untreated chickpea seeds in vitro. A significant reduction in chickpea rhizobia was observed in seed treatment with Captan followed by Endosulfan and Chlorpyrifos. In a field experiment during the winter season 2006–2008, no difference in the emergence count of chickpea plants was observed. Treatments inoculated with Mesorhizobium sp. Cicer alone or along with Captan, Chlorpyrifos or Endosulfan showed improved plant growth and symbiotic parameters (plant height, nodulation, leghaemoglobin content, and nitrogen content) in comparison with the uninoculated control treatment. Significantly higher grain yield (9.6%) was observed in the treatment inoculated with Mesorhizobium sp. Cicer alone as compared to the uninoculated control. A non-significant difference in grain yield among treatments where Mesorhizobium sp. Cicer along with a mixture of fungicide and insecticides was applied was observed in contrast to the Mesorhizobium sp. Cicer treatment. In conclusion, the recommended rates of fungicide and insecticides as seed treatment were not detrimental to chickpea-Mesorhizobium sp. Cicer symbiosis, hence they can be safely used to obtain higher productivity.

Abstract:
This paper presents the simplified method of efficiency evaluation of surface protection products for concrete elements. This evaluation method was designed to consist of as few testing procedures as possible and to use as few specimens as well. Several testing processes most of which were based on the European technical standards were used to compare five commercially available products. Those comparisons served to assess whether the chosen method has sufficient informative value and does not require a disproportionate amount of time and money. The main examined properties were impact on color and reflectivity of the original surface, durability of the coating in extreme weather conditions, wettability of the surface and amount of labor needed for its maintenance. All of these experiments were optimized so that they could be performed on one type of specimen.

The article presents the efficient method of microwave irradiation (SHF) for the municipal liquid waste such as domestic wastewater and sludge. The technical and economic parameters and experimental data, showing the possibilities of microwave electromagnetic radiation using in the sewage and sediment treatment technologies, are given in this article. The traditional electrothermal treatment and SHF processing of the municipal precipitation, taken from the city wastewater treatment plant, have been compared. At the same time, a high rate of heating of the precipitation samples has been noted during the microwave treatment. The technical and economic comparison of three methods (with the usage of the reagents, convection heating and SHF) showed the advantages of using SHF range electromagnetic radiation. The energy efficiency and the cost-effective use of resources during the SHF using for liquid municipal waste treatment have been confirmed.

Abstract:
This paper focuses on studying the effect of electrolytic water on wastewater decontamination processes, using model solutions and wastewater from the food-processing plant. The aqueous solutions under study were obtained by changing the redox potential (ORP), and pH of ordinary tap water using a pH corrector, which is a flow-through electrolyzer with a membrane separating the cathode and anode zones, and the solutions were obtained by adding to tap water a solution containing products of electrokinetic synthesis. Parameters that changed as a result of the study: ORP, TDS, pH. Solutions capable of almost complete inhibition of the vital activity and growth of microorganisms were obtained. Also, solutions were obtained that promoted their development, and when seeding them on a dense nutrient medium, there was continuous growth. Further research is advisable to detail the technical and economic indicators of water supply and sewerage schemes of municipal and industrial facilities with preventive water treatment processes.

Abstract:
The paper compares the methods of hygienisation of wastewater treatment plants sludges with respect to meet legislative requirements of conditions for using the treated sludge on agricultural land. The paper draws a comparison of the experimental results between the method of hygienisation and stabilisation of the sludge through the autothermic aerobic thermophilic stabilisation (AATS) by pure oxygen and the method of sludge hygienisation by pasteurization. Results of the experiment confirm that sewage sludge treated by both assessed hygienisation technologies meets legislation requirements for application to agricultural soil.

Abstract:
Small plot trials studying the impact of different seed treatments on the occurrence of pests and diseases in autumn were carried out during 2000–2003. The aim was to verify the efficiency of different fungicidal and insecticidal oilseed rape seed treatments and to determine the economical effectiveness of this method of protection. The following insecticidal seed treatments were used: Promet 400 CS (furathiocarb), Cosmos 500 FS (fipronil), Chinook 200 FS (imidacloprid & beta-cyfluthrin) and Marshal ST (carbosulfan). The seed treatment Chinook 200 FS in combination with newly developed fungicidal compound was also assessed. The most effective treatment was Chinook 200 FS (imidacloprid & beta-cyfluthrin), particularly against flea beetles (Phyllotreta spp.), and lower infestations by larvae of the turnip gall weevil (Ceutorhynchus pleurostigma Marsh.) were also found. However, the efficiency lasts no more than 4–5 weeks after sowing. The use of common insecticidal treatments in cases of necessity was found to be beneficial. Plant density in autumn and in spring was greatest in the Chinook 200 FS treatment and in some years a positive influence on yield was also observed with this treatment.

Abstract:
Renewable energy will have an important role as a resource of energy in the future. Microbial fuel cell (MFC) is a promising method to obtain electricity from organic matter andwastewater treatment simultaneously. In a pilot study, use of microbial fuel cell for wastewater treatment and electricity generation investigated. The bacteria of ruminant used as inoculums. Synthetic wastewater used at different organic loading rate. Hydraulic retention time was aneffective factor in removal of soluble COD and more than 49% removed. Optimized HRT to achieve the maximum removal efficiency and sustainable operation could be regarded 1.5 and 2.5 hours. Columbic efficiency (CE) affected by organic loading rate (OLR) and by increasing OLR, CE reduced from 71% to 8%. Maximum voltage was 700mV. Since the microbial fuel cell reactor considered as an anaerobic process, it may be an appropriate alternative for wastewater treatment

Abstract:
The paper states that operating sewage pumping station always goes together with high electrical energy consumption, even if most suitable sewage pumping is used. Under conditions of strongly marked land forms with height difference the authors suggest using the so-called “continuity of stream” and claim that it would result in short-term work of water-pumping sets. This method would allow to enlarge water-pumping sets overhaul period and to reduce energy costs. The paper introduces practical results obtained while operating a certain sewage facility. These results make possible to calculate the efficiency of the introduces method of clean water runoff pumping.

Abstract:
Male patients in an alcohol detoxification unit were measured to determine whether the method of acquiring symptoms and sex of the experimenter affected the number and severity of symptoms elicited. A male or female experimenter administered a checklist of symptoms and the Marlowe-Crowne Social Desirability Scale to 100 patients. A MANCOVA indicated there was a significant difference between method 1 (nondirective) and method 2 (leading). Subsequent univariate analyses yielded significant differences between the methods and both dependent measures, number of symptoms acquired and their severity. The leading method was more effective for acquiring symptoms, and more moderate symptoms, which were typically overlooked by the patients during the nondirective phase, were obtained.
