Paper [I] Using a unique and highly detailed data set on energy consumption at the appliance-level for 200 Swedish households, seemingly unrelated regression (SUR)-based end-use specific load curves are estimated. The estimated load curves are then used to explore possible restrictions on load shifting (e.g. the office hours schedule) as well as the cost implications of different load shift patterns. The cost implications of shifting load from "expensive" to "cheap" hours, using the Nord Pool spot prices as a proxy for a dynamic price, are computed to be very small; roughly 2-4% reduction in tot

The terrestrial biosphere represents a large pool of carbon, whose cycle is governed by the opposed processes of CO2 uptake (photosynthesis) and release (respiration) from and to the atmosphere. Considering the role of carbon dioxide in the observed global warming, monitoring, understanding and modeling carbon exchange of ecosystems is a critical issue in climate change researches. Moreover because of the multiple implications of vegetation structure dynamics on ecosystem carbon fluxes, monitoring and modeling plant phenology is also of increasing scientific interest. The general goal of this research was to understand the agronomic and physiological changes of a lucerne crop in distinct physical radiation environments and to verify the potential of lucerne to grow under shaded conditions. To achieve this, the research was conducted in four main steps: (i) firstly, experimental data collection in the field using two artificial shade materials (shade cloth and wooden slats) under inigated and non-irrigated conditions; (ii) a second experiment with data collection in a typical temperate dryland agroforestry area under non-irrigated conditions; (iii) generatio
