Full textBackground: Diabetes is a chronic disease that affects more and more people in the world. The district nurse at the health centers in Sweden has a significant task in guiding patients with type 2 diabetes by offering self-management education to enable the patients to manage the disease themselves. The disease requires extensive self-management to keep blood glucose levels optimal and to reduce or prevent the risks for complications. Aim: The purpose of this study was to describe district nurses experiences of patient education for persons with type 2 diabetes. Method: A qualitative design with inductive approach. Semistructured interviews were performed individually with four district nurses on two different out patient clinics in Stockholm’s county. Result The result of the present study showed that district nurses has to start from the patient's situation and individualize the information. They further stated that it was important to create a good relationship and used different pedagogical methods to motivate patients to lifestyle change. The district nurses stated that they had good knowledge of patent training, but they had a lack of knowledge in cultural differences in patients. Conclusion: This study showed that the district nurses have a supporting role in strengthening the patients' ability to self-management. The given information had to be individualized. It is necessary to use different pedagogical methods to increase the patient's motivation. The district nurses experience a lack of time and resources.

Full textBackground: Diabetes type 2 has increased globally which has become a huge patient-group for the healthcare system to face. To minimize the risk of complications such as cardiovascular complication it is therefore of great importance to optimize the self-management care for patient with diabetes type 2. Some patient feel level of uneasiness when it comes to their disease and the lifestyle changes that their disease require them to do. To be able to individually manage their diagnosis is the key for quality of life. The recommendations from Socialstyrelsen is to have self-management care education in groups. Patients experience of self-care management groups are therefore of great importance for the requisite and formation of better diabetes care. Aim: The aim of this study was to examine patient with diabetes type 2 experiences of self-care management education in groups. Method: Literature review consisting of 13 articles. Results: The different studies in this review has given a clearer picture of how the participants experienced the self-care management education in groups. The majority of the participants experienced the self-care management groups as a positive, where they could ask questions and share ideas and experiences with other participants. The meetings in group gave them the chance to express questions more freely. This was experienced by the participants as a positive experience. The meeting in groups motivated them to change their lifestyles changes that were required for a better health and quality of life. The environment of the groupmeetings were not as stern as the individual meetings could be. Conclusion: Most of the participants experienced the possibility of raising questions freely and sharing experiences as something positive. This were a contributing factor that motivated them to continue participate in the groupmeetings to follow through with the lifestyle changes for a better health and quality of life.

Full textSyfte:Syftet med studien var att studera effekten av en given egenvårdsutbildning i oral hälsa för en grupp dental nurse studenter i Danang, Vietnam. Metod:En kvantitativ interventionsstudie utfördes, bestående av 53 utvalda deltagare som undersöktes kliniskt för att mäta dental biofilm och gingival inflammation. Interventionen var en egenvårdsutbildning där information och instruktion i material och metoder för egenvård i tandborstteknik och approximal rengöring inkluderades. Resultat:Egenvårdsutbildningen i oral hälsa visade sig ha effekt på studenternas munhygien. Det var en statistiskt signifikant skillnad mellan den första och den andra undersökningen av gingival inflammation. Ingen statistiskt signifikant skillnad uppnåddes mellan den första och andra undersökningen av dentalt plack. Dock sjönk plackförekomsten på de buccala, linguala och distala ytorna avsevärt innan den andra undersökningen. Resultaten visade inte någon signifikant skillnad mellan gruppen från landsbygd eller gruppen från tätort. Slutsats:Resultatet av studien visar att egenvårdsutbildningen haft en positiv inverkan på deltagarens munhygien. Det skulle vara fördelaktigt att utveckla ett egenvårdsprogram för befolkningen i Vietnam för att allmänt förbättra den orala hygienen. Genom kunskap och information om goda egenvårdsvanor och dess positiva effekter kan fler människor uppnå en bättre och hälsosammare oral hälsa.

Full textBackground: Heart failure is a chronic disease and is one of the main reasons for hospitalization in Sweden. Self-care is an essential part of the treatment for people with heart failure. The purpose of self-care is to maintain or restore health and quality of life and also to prevent deterioration and handle the disease. Aim: The purpose of this study was to explore if self-care programs improved quality of life for people with heart failure. Methods: A total of ten empirical articles with a quantitative method were included. The database search was conducted in Cinahl and Pubmed. The articles were quality reviewed, analyzed and compiled after the search. Results: The result of the study showed that the participants had a significant improvement in quality of life, after the intervention, in eight out of ten studies. The effects of the interventions were calculated by different measurements for quality of life and the study lasted for three to twelve months. Most of the studies that included a nurse improved quality of life significantly. Conclusion: According to the study, different self care educations can improve quality of life for people living with heart failure. Nurses have an important role when it comes to spread knowledge, give information and advice to heart failure patients to improve self-care. Future studies should be performed on longer interventions to evaluate the long-term effects on quality of life.
