Abstract:
The story of „The Ship of Theseus” lay at the foundation of one of the most intriguing paradox of any perspective of ego, self and identity. In this article, the story is told and retold in many different ways. Broadley, the story has three narators: Plutarch (who fuelled at least six variations and another three competitors of the main theme), Thomas Hobbes (whose readings of the story ignited the search for solutions to this paradox – solutions that are mainly logical) and I, Gabriel R. Suciu: my version shifts the question from „How to present the paradox?” and „How to solve the paradox?”, to „How to build a paradox?”. It’s woth mentioning that a fourth version is also told, at the beginning of the article – the story told by the ship itself.

Abstract:
Extant research considers humor integral to the Black experience. Previous work on the topic, however, mainly focuses on humor among lower-class Blacks and remains disconnected from broader sociological research on humor and small group culture. Drawing on semistructured, in-depth interviews with 29 members and over 30 months of participant observation this article explores humor in an elite Black men’s social club. “Talking shit” is central to sociability among members, signaling belongingness (having “tough skin") and cementing cohesion on interpersonal and group levels through the deconstruction of egos. By finding amusement in the ambiguities of social identity members interpret its boundaries and articulate feelings in the process of creating and sustaining a culture of hilarity. Ultimately, the analysis illuminates how social identity shapes the content and processes of humor within small group culture.

Abstract:
The paper continues the cycle of lectures by Igor Borisovitch Grinshpun on his- tory of psychotherapy. The current part recounts the discovery of the unconscious by Austrian physician Josef Breuer (case of Anna O., cathartic method) and French philosopher Pierre Janet. Descriptions of cased are adduced. The question of reliability of these descriptions and falsifications occurring due to complicated relation- ship between psychoanalyst and patient, and the absence of systematic note-taking practice, is raised. Ethical problems of public discussion of cases are reviewed P. Janet’s approach and the specificity of his method in comparison with classic psychoanalysis are analyzed in detail on the basis of clinical cases from his practice. Differences between the notion of the unconscious in the works of psychoanalysts and P. Janet’s, and the latter’s impact on theoretic and practical psychology (his influence on psychoanalysis, ego-psychology, psychodrama, cultural-historical psychology) are noted.

Abstract:
It is crucial for unmanned surface vessels (USVs) to detect and track surrounding vessels in real time to avoid collisions at sea. However, the harsh maritime environment poses great challenges to multitarget tracking (MTT). In this paper, a novel tracking by detection framework that integrates the multimodel and multicue (M3C) pipeline is proposed, which aims at improving the detection and tracking performance. Regarding the multimodel, we predicted the maneuver probability of a target vessel via the gated recurrent unit (GRU) model with an attention mechanism, and fused their respective outputs as the output of a kinematic filter. We developed a hybrid affinity model based on multi cues, such as the motion, appearance, and attitude of the ego vessel in the data association stage. By using the proposed ship re-identification approach, the tracker had the capability of appearance matching via metric learning. Experimental evaluation of two public maritime datasets showed that our method achieved state-of-the-art performance, not only in identity switches (IDS) but also in frame rates.

Abstract:
XX amžiaus pabaigoje tapatumo problematika socialinių mokslų literatūroje labai plačiai nagrinėjama. Užtenka pažvelgti į psichologijos literatūros šaltinių duomenų bazes PsychLit arba PsychInfo, kad įsitikintume, jog labai nedaugelis sąvokų paskutinio XX amžiaus dešimtmečio psichologijos literatūroje pasitaiko dažniau nei sąvoka identity. Tai nestebina - vis greitėjantys pokyčiai, vis mažėjantis pasaulis nepaliaujamai aštrina pagrindinį identiteto klausimą - "Kas aš esu?"Iš lietuvių psichologų pirmasis šią problematiką ėmė nagrinėti ilgus metus JAV dirbęs ir gyvenęs Pikūnas (1990, 1994; Pikūnas ir Palujanskienė, 2000), tačiau pastaraisiais metais pasirodė ir daugiau darbų šia tema (Antinienė, 1999; Vaičiulienė, 1999a, 1999b). Lietuviai psichologai, atlikdami tapatumo problematikos tyrinėjimus, remiasi Eriko Eriksono (1968) teorija ir James Marcia (1967, 1966, 1980; Marcia, Waterman, Matteson, Archer ir Orlofsky, 1993) sukurta ego identiteto būvių paradigma. RELATION SHIPS AMONG IDENTITY STATUSES AND SOCIAL ADAPTATION AT SCHOOL INDICES Visvaldas Lekauskas Summary Research report on relationship between ego identity and aspects of social functioning at school is presented. Subjects were 110 Lithuanian 12-th graders, 46 male and 64 female. For the assessment of identity status the Extended Objective Measure of Ego Identity Status, final revision (EOMEIS-2) developed by Adams, Bennion, and Huh (1989) was translated into Lithuanian language. Self-report Subjective Social Well-Being Scale and Problem Behavior Scale completed by teachers, as well as popularity in class, served as functioning in school indices and also as a criteria for predictive validation of the EOMEIS-2. EOMEIS showed satisfactory reliability and construct and criterion validity. Ideological moratoriums were more popular than ideological achievers. Interpersonally committed statuses had better subjective social adaptation than interpersonally non-committed statuses. Interpersonal diffusions and foreclosures displayed less problem behaviors than interpersonal moratoriums and achievers.

In ASME 2018 37th International Conference on Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/omae2018-78388.

Abstract:
The paper explores Kriging-based surrogate model combined with Weighted Expected Improvement approach and for the ship hull form optimization. The training dataset of the Kriging-based surrogate model is obtained by sampling the design space (Design of Experiments, DOE) and performing expensive high-fidelity computations on the selected points. Expected Improvement (EI) is used as a criterion to select one additional sample point in each iteration. The Weighted Expected Improvement (WEI) is derived from EI by adding a tunable parameter which can adjust the weights on exploration and exploitation in the Efficient Global Optimization (EGO). The proposed method selects more than one new sample point by changing the weight parameter for each optimization iteration, thus it can be performed by parallel computation or multi-computer runs which improves the computational efficiency distinctly. This makes it possible not only to improve the accuracy of the surrogate model, but also to explore the global optimum much more quickly. The present method is applied to mathematical test function and a ship hull form optimization design in order to find the optimal hull form with best resistance performance in calm water in different speeds. The result shows that the criterion of WEI can be applied in EGO for optimization design and can be easily extended to other hull form optimization design problems based on computational fluid dynamics.
