Abstract:
The current study aimed to knowing the level of PTSD among a family of a War Stricken Soldier (the wife and eldest daughter), and knowing the clinical indications for PTSD symptoms to the cases, also it aimed to search about the coping strategies which the wife and the eldest adopted and study the effect of these coping strategies on relieving PTSD symptoms, and it aimed to knowing the dynamic motivations for the cases responses on the TAT cards, that underlie the emergence of PTSD symptoms and the adoption of specific coping strategies.
Several tools were used, Semi Structured interview, Thematic Apperception Test (TAT), Davidson Scale for Post-Traumatic Stress, Post-Traumatic Coping Strategies Scale.
The study results indicated to the existence of mild level on PTSD to the wife, and moderate level to the daughter, Problem-solving strategies have emerged as the wife's strongest coping strategies, and avoidance strategies have emerged as the daughter's strongest coping strategies. The responses of the two cases on TAT and the analysis of their latent dynamic motivations are discussed.

Full text
Abstract:
Family size, sex of siblings and birth order were examined in 225 bulimic patients of normal weight, all stemming from the same circumscribed catchment area. Although bulimia can occur in any size family, all-female sibships were significantly over-represented. In small families at least, the bulimic patient was highly likely to be the only or eldest daughter. In small sibships, a bulimic who was first-born was significantly more likely to have a younger sister; if second-born she was more likely to have an elder brother. Despite the very large sample size, no final conclusion can be made on birth order.

Korpman, Matthew J. "Can anything good come from Sodom? A feminist and narrative critique of Lot’s daughters in Gen. 19.30-38." Journal for the Study of the Old Testament 43, no. 3 (2019): 334–42. http://dx.doi.org/10.1177/0309089217727919.

Abstract:
For countless centuries, the story of Lot’s daughters in Genesis has both abhorred and intrigued countless readers. Utilizing the hermeneutical lenses of Narrative and Feminist Criticism, this article draws attention to overlooked details in the narrative. The story is also contrasted with that of the Levite’s Concubine in Judges 19. This study concludes that the narrative has been misread by past interpreters, arguing that the eldest daughter intentionally sought to deceive her younger sister for the intention of shaming their father as retribution for endangering their lives in Sodom. It proposes that the narrative of Gen. 19.30-38 is a dramatic representation by its author of divine irony and a strikingly pro-feminine text for the patriarchal society in which and to which it was written.

Abstract:
On Henry Nevill II’s death at the ripe old age of 85 on 28 June 1728, the terms of his will were duly carried out. In it he arranged that ‘his youngest daughter, the Lady Mary Countess Migliorucci, should have the custody and management of his said son during his insanity, not doubting but she will see him taken all imaginable care of and used with that tenderness and regard that is due to be had for one in his unfortunate circumstance’. Then he left to his grandson, Cosmas Henry Joseph Count Migliorucci (whom he desired to take the surname of Nevill) the sum of £5,000. Next, he left to his eldest daughter, Margaret Conyers, the sum of £2,000 and to his Conyers grand-daughters, Harriet and Elizabeth, £300 apiece. To his youngest daughter, the Countess Mary Migliorucci, he left £10,000 in trust. On her father’s death, Lady Mary Migliorucci faced several problems. The first was to carry out her father’s instruction to take care of her idiot brother and for this she was allowed £200. It would seem, however, that his care fell mainly on the shoulders of Henry Milton, the bailiff of Nevill Holt, for Lady Mary spent most summers at her London house in Queen’s Square, near Ormond Street, Thus, on 3 June 1729, Milton wrote to her that ‘Mr. N. is in good health’.

Abstract:
In Catalonia the hereditary system envisaged that the eldest son in the family would inherit. When there was no male heir, the oldest daughter would inherit, and was then called the pubilla. This circumstance allowed the possibility of an heir and an heiress marrying, which would result in the unification of their patrimonies. According to traditional historiography, this was one explanation of the concentration of rural patrimonies. This article demonstrates that the heir–heiress wedding was not the most often chosen scenario, however, and looks again at the options that families had to consider, according to their circumstances, when a daughter was the heir, and at the results of their choices.

Abstract:
Last year, 2019 marked the 150th anniversary of the birth of Fyodor Dostoevsky's eldest daughter, Lyubov, and research about her life, which is very interesting and difficult, can be a modest gift for the anniversary of her birth on the eve of a much more solemn celebration - the 200th anniversary of the writer in 2021. Beloved by Lyubov Fyodorovna and her parents, Italy is becoming a defining not only in the creative work, but also in the life of the writer. Having left in 1913 once again for treatment in Europe, Lyubov Fyodorovna does not assume that she will never return to her homeland and will spend the last two years of her life in the country of the great Dante. In 1920, for the upcoming centenary of her father, she published a book of memoirs about him, which brought her long-awaited fame. The article is a biography of Lyubov Fyodorovna Dostoevsky, daughter of the great Russian writer F. M. Dostoevsky. The article quotes the correspondence of L. F. Dostoevskaya with her family, the memoirs of her contemporaries, and previously unpublished documents about her years of study at the gymnasium.

Schuster, Debbe Lee. "Elder mother's and caregiving daughter's perceptions when making decisions as a dyad: Agreement or disagreement." Diss., The University of Arizona, 2001. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/280720.

Full text
Abstract:
Perceptions are an important component of the decision-making process and interactions between adult children and the older parent. The purposes of this correlational, cross-sectional study were (a) to test the psychometric properties of the Categories of Decision Making Scale; and (b) to describe the perceptions of the mother/daughter dyad and the match of perceptions with a specified theoretical perspective. The major variables in the model included general and specific expectations, dyadic intimacy, partner's decision strategies, and categories of decision-making. The convenience sample consisted of 12 dyads, older mothers and caregiving daughters, in the community who received questionnaires by mail. A model of Perceptual Congruence of the Mother/Daughter of the Dyad was developed to examine the factors "WE" (agreement of the dyad members) and "I" (disagreement of the dyad members). Two methods of analysis were used to analyze the data, Multitrait-Multimethod (MTMM) and Factor Analytic Structural Equation Modeling (FASEM). Key findings indicated that the Categories of Decision Making scale demonstrated sufficient validity and reliability for describing the decision making of daughters and mothers for this small sample. The MTMM analysis demonstrated congruence, indicating agreement on the "WE" factor with dyadic intimacy, mothers' involvement in decision making, and confidence in mothers' decision making abilities. The FASEM models demonstrated "WE" agreement on the variables of dyadic intimacy and positive decision strategies. Comparison of both methods of analysis, MTMM and FASEM indicated mothers and daughters agreed only on dyadic intimacy. In this study, daughters perceived the mothers used more negative decision making strategies than the mothers perceived the daughters to use while making decisions. The daughters believed negative decision making strategies were caused by higher specific parental expectations and resulted in diminished intimacy between mother and daughter. In summary, there was agreement within the dyad on dyadic intimacy, but congruence was not found on expectations, decision strategies, or categories of decision-making. The findings suggest that daughter/mother dyadic decision-making is very complex with both partners perceiving the interaction differently. These differences may cause difficulties with the decision making process and poor outcomes for the dyadic members.

At the beginning of this study, the author viewed her father as a hero and dream chaser. She was curious why her father decided to change his career path to be a sailor. During the research process, she discovered that the intimate bonding of her father and her was cut off due to the distance of far-away-sailing. Moreover, she was forced to grow up early and substitute the father role in the family. She had to face the interaction between her mother and grandmother and the stress of the high school and college entrance exams. Luckily her teachers and classmates helped her to get through the crisis. By the narrative and reflection of her parents and herself, the author re-understood her family’s developmental traces and context. Key Words : the sailor, family, father’s absence

To explore the difference between gender role experience and intergenerational transmission of parenting throughout different generations, while discovering the precious element of gender role experience in family. There are three results in this study: 1. The gender role experience in family was passed on to the eldest daughter through lectures, demonstrations, and the environment. This process taught the eldest daughter their daily chores and their responsibility to take care of the family. The process is reproduced in each generation and similar experience was passed on between the eldest daughters in the family. 2. The eldest daughter whose gender role experience in the family changes due to marriage. They face different challenges after marriage, and each of them have to develop new strategies by themselves to cope with the problems. 3. Break out from the patriarchal system, so the precious elements could be produced. The precious element was produced from subverting the patriarchal system. The different strategies the eldest daughters developed in the past gradually shapes the strategy for them to be consciously reflecting and speaking out for themselves. Finally, this study will also provide suggestions for future research, in the hope of issues on gender role experience in family can get more attention and understanding.

Abstract:
碩士
亞洲大學
健康產業管理學系長期照護組
97
Research Background and Purposes: The influences of population ageing and declining birthrate have led to many challenges for informal elder care, while the responsibility of informal elder care is mainly taken by adult children. Therefore, this study selected the elders of different self-perception of health conditions as research subjects, in order to investigate the generational communication between the elders and their eldest sons and daughters and to analyze the influences of extent of generational communication on self-perception of health conditions. Research Method: This study used a secondary data analysis of cross-sectional studies to analyze the data released from the RR2006 database of the Programs for the Study of Chinese Families of Academia Sinica in 2006. The subjects were 833 elderly people over the age of 60. Research Results: There were three findings in the results: First, in the aspect of variable of socio-demographic characteristics, elderly female, presently unemployed, had not retired, and the elderly with worse living conditions over the past year showed worse self-perception of health conditions. Second, in the aspect of variable of the extent of generational communication between the elderly people and their eldest sons and daughters, it was found that the extent of generational communication between the elders and their eldest sons had no influence on self-perception of health conditions. Third, the weaker the extent of generational communication and associational solidarity between the elders and their eldest daughters were, the worse self-perception of health conditions was. Research Conclusions: Elderly female, presently unemployed, had not retired, and the elderly who had poor living conditions over the past year showed worse self-perception of health conditions. The elderly people who had weaker extent of associational solidarity and structural solidarity with their eldest daughters had worse self-perception of health conditions; however, the extent of generational communication between the elders and their eldest sons had no significant influence on self-perception of health conditions.

John and Ann Rogers Clark, along with their youngest children, joined their second son, George Rogers, in Louisville early in 1785. The Clark’s eldest son and daughter remained in Virginia with their spouses, and two sons had not survived the Revolution.Settled in a massive log house, the Clarks soon hosted the marriages of two daughters: Elizabeth, to Colonel Richard Clough Anderson, and Lucy, to Major William Croghan. Youngest daughter, Fannie, followed with the first of her three weddings, but youngest son, William, would postpone marriage until his return from Mr. Jefferson’s expedition. George Rogersnever married. William spent much of his young manhood mediating his brother’s financial and legal entanglements, often spending his own income to resolve the differences. As a consequence, he sold the home he had inherited from his parents and moved with George Rogers across the Ohio, to the Indiana Territory land Virginia had provided its general as payment for the American Revolution.

Abstract:
William Croghan, Irish immigrant, British and Continental Army officer, surveyor, and community leader, died at his home in September 1822. He left behind a large family and distinguished farm, more than fifty thousand acres scattered across several states, and the admiration of a nation. His widow, Lucy Clark, lived another sixteen years, much of it as witness to the tragedies of her children, but she endured, as a frontier woman ought, and welcomed Andrew Jackson, James Monroe, Meriwether Lewis, and, of course, Zachary Taylor to her home. Three children married brilliantly; son, George, a War of 1812 hero, married New York’s Serena Livingston, niece to Robert. Eldest daughter, Ann, married Thomas S. Jesup, newly appointed quartermaster general of the US Army; and son, William, married Mary O’Hara, one of the nation’s wealthiest heiresses. Lucy lived to see Locust Grove secured by eldest son, Dr. John Croghan, and died peacefully in the home she had known for more than forty years.
