By the mid-nineteenth century, however, fraud had been largely purged from Swedish elections, and most petitions instead concerned unclear regulations pertaining to suffrage and eligibility criteria. AbstractThis article uses data from 28 poll books to explore voter behaviour over time in early 18th‐century English parliamentary elections (from 1710 to 1735). Voters in this period exhibited a high degree of partisan loyalty from one election to the next. But voters were also quite likely to drop out of the electorate between elections. As a case study of Sussex elections in 1734 shows, even among voters who made a definite promise to vote for a given candidate or set of candidates, there was a significant proportion who did not vote. The paper presents a comparative legal and comparative historical analysis of one of the aspects of the institution of the arbitration, namely, the election of an arbitrator. The contractual, non-state nature of arbitration leaves the disputing parties with a wide freedom of expression, including in determining the personality of a mediator or intermediaries in resolving a dispute. The paper focuses on identifying the key features that the disputing parties should pay attention to when choosing an arbitrator (judges). Wesley read the Essay Concerning Human Understanding in 1725 during the interval between his commencement as a Bachelor of Arts and his election to a Fellowship at Lincoln College, Oxford. The book made a favorable impression which endured to the end of his life. During the decade of the eighties, for instance, Wesley published a series of extra

This article examines the visual strategies employed in the early modern period by a dynasty ruling a smaller state, the Duchy of Lorraine, to survive in the face of expansion by larger neighbours (notably France). The central argument posits that in order to be treated as fully royal (and therefore with inherent rights to exist independently, as full members of the society of princes), princes like the dukes of Lorraine had to appear as royal in their visual representation. The article therefore looks at different examples of selfrepresentation produced by the dynasty over time, including gen

Health care reform is one of the hottest topics in America. One need look no further than this year’s election cycle to see that health care reform was one of the main platforms for nearly every candidate for the 2020 election. Why is this the case? Healthcare costs amount to 17.9% of the overall Gross Domestic Product (“GDP”). This figure is shockingly high, especially when compared to health care costs of similarly situated countries. As it currently stands, the United States ranks at the top of per capita health care spending. Therefore, it should sadden the soul of our nation that our heal

Since the reign of Stanisław Leszczyński was considered illegal, papal diplomacy recognised absent Augustus II as the king of Poland and maintained official relationship with the Sandomierz Confederation, yet contacts with the Leszczyński’s camp were not broken off.During the preparations for the war with Sweden, T
