Study of the guided waves in piezoelectric cylinders based on a semi-analytical finite element method is presented. In the study, the dispersion equation was formulated as a generalized eigenvalue problem by treating mechanical displacements and electric potential with one dimensional quadratic finite element model through the thickness of the cylinder. Here the general eigenvalue problem is depended on three parameters, namely, the frequency, the axial wave number and the circumferential wave. ABSTRACTExact electroelastic analysis of hollow and solid circular cylinders subjected to a uniform temperature change and electromechanical loads that do not vary axially are presented. Generalized plane strain and torsion of a piezoelectric cylindrical body is formulated in a state space framework. Uniformly valid exact solutions are obtained for hollow and solid circular cylinders subjected to extension, torsion, pressuring, shearing, electric loadings and a uniform temperature change.

Purpose The purpose of this work is to highlight the effects of partial unipolar injection on electro-thermo-convection (ETC) in dielectric liquid contained between two eccentric cylinders. Design/methodology/approach A finite volume method was used to solve governing equations. The study is performed for different parameters, such as radius ratio (0.2 ≤ Γ ≤ 0.6), dimensionless electric Rayleigh number (0 ≤ T ≤ 900), eccentricity (−0.4 ≤ e ≤ 0.4) and thermal Rayleigh number (10 ≤ Ra ≤ 5.105). Findings It is found that heat transfer increases with increase in dimensionless electric Rayleigh num

The magnetic field outside the cylinder or inside the bore of the hollow cylinder and shell is expressed in terms of Bessel functions. Both axial and transverse applied fields are considered for the solid and hollow cylinders. The equations for the vector potential components are transformed in one-dimensional equations along the radial coordinate with the consequent integration by the method of variation of parameters.
