<p>Characterization of Epoxy (diglycidyl ether of Bis-phenol A cured with Tri ethylene Tetra amine) without fillers was done. The Water absorption test at 95°C shows that at saturation the epoxy contains a water concentration of 2.089%. The diffusion coefficient of absorption is calculated as 0.021 cm2/s. The diffusion coefficient of desorption is calculated as 0.0987 cm2/s. The diffusion is almost 5 times faster than absorption. Also the material looses weight as the hydrothermal aging progresses. A repeatable artificial wetting test method was developed after several modifications were made to the steam system, test chamber and the test routine. <p>The focus of this work has been on hybrid insulation in inhomogeneous electric fields under lightning impulse voltage stress. The principal idea behind hybrid insulation is the intentional use of surface charges to re-distribute the electric field within an insulation system.
