This paper gives a brief overview of three instruments suitable for measuring the flow of electrical power and energy. The first instrument is a single-phase power analyzer, while the other two instruments are double and quadruple three-phase power analyzers. In addition to over viewing these instruments, the paper presents a possible improvement of a quadruple three-phase power analyzer. The implementation of this improvement would make it possible to use a quadruple three-phase power analyzer as support for the phasor measurement unit.

These measuring instruments are used in the diagnosis of electric power facilities. The most general variant, called midpoint method, is considered. The proposed midpoint method allows you to measure much smaller than using widespread methods, alternating currents or voltages, especially when changing the amplitude of the measured signal in very wide ranges, by 1–2 orders of magnitude.

Abstract:
The process of coating a wire with a polymeric material is basically an extrusion operation in which either the molten polymer is extruded continuously over an axially moving wire or the wire is pulled through the extruded molten polymer. As schematically shown in Figure 5.1, the typical wire-coating unit consists of a pay-off device, a wire preheater, an extruder equipped with a cross-head die, a cooling trough, and a take-off device. Various control and measuring instruments are utilized in the commercial line (Griff 1962). The two basic wire-coating dies are pressure-type dies and tubing-type dies, as shown schematically in Figure 5.2. The tubing-type dies are annular in cross-section. The flow geometry outside the tubing die is important from the point of view of obtaining a coating with better mechanical and electrical properties and surface smoothness. However, little effort has been spent on studying this particular aspect of the process. The pressure-type wire-coating die is an annulus, the side surface of which is the wire to be coated, moving at a constant speed. The flow through this type of die is analogous to the flow through an annulus formed by coaxial cylinders with the inner cylinder moving in the axial direction. In the past, analysis of wire-coating extrusion for pressure-type die has been carried out for Newtonian and power-law fluids (Bagley and Storey 1963; Bernhardt 1962; Carley et al. 1979; Han and Rao 1978; McKelvey 1963). Like in the film coextrusion process presented in Chapter 9, in wire-coating coextrusion two different polymers may be concentrically coated on the wire in a single step (LeNir 1974). Tough abrasive-resistant nylon, for example, can be coated over a much less expensive polyethylene core, or one can have a thin coat of color compound over unpigmented insulator, thus taking advantage of the different properties of two components at a reduced cost. Considerable savings in the cost of processing can be achieved by applying two coats in a single step.

An energy audit of the electrical network is required in the process of constructing new electrical networks as well as in justifying the reconstruction need of existing ones. In this chapter, the structure of a mobile measuring complex has been developed to conduct an electrical network survey without disconnecting consumers. The complex can be used to inspect 0.4 kV electrical networks and microgrids of the same voltage class and allows data collection on voltage losses and electric power losses in network elements such as a power lines (electric transmission line), and power transformers. The energy audit is conducted without disconnecting consumers in order to avoid an undersupply of electricity as well as to determine the real operating modes of power networks. Ultimately, the use of the developed measuring complex will increase the reliability of the power supply to consumers and ensure the required quality of the electricity supplied to them.

Abstract:
The general focus of the proposed chapter is to describe a complex yet transparent solution for advanced simulation analysis of urban electric vehicles propulsion unit. As general rule, precise and realistic results are obtained only when performing real-time simulations, engaging dedicated software for such applications. Hence, simulation of an electric vehicle as a complete solution can become rather difficult. The authors targeted advanced analysis of the propulsion unit, including the motor, the battery, the power converter, and its control. These are designed using multilevel models in Matlab/Simulink, referring to different complexity levels of each assembly. Another feature of the models is their organization, based on Energetic Macroscopic Representation (EMR), this easing the process of inter-connecting models correctly. Nevertheless, the mechanical, aerodynamical and road profile details are included using Amesim Software. All the simulations are performed on a real-time target, using a National Instruments PXIe embedded controller. The latter runs NI VeriStand software, allowing real-time communication between Amesim and Simulink offering in the same time possibility to read/write analog/digital IOs for external communication. This feature in fact is used when passing from modeling to Hardware in the Loop (HIL) analysis, replacing the simulated assembly with the actual one.

The capability of the Web to link information over the Internet has popularized computer science to the public. But it is the grid that will enable the public to exploit data storage and computer power over the Internet analogous to the electric power utility (a ubiquitous commodity). The grid is considered the fifth generation computing architecture after client-server and multitier (Kusnetzky & Olofson, 2004) that integrates resources (computers, networks, data archives, instruments, etc.) in an interoperable virtual environment (Berman, Fox, & Hey, 2003). In this vein, grid computing is a new IT infrastructure that allows modular hardware and software to be deployed collectively to solve a problem or rejoined on demand to meet changing needs of a user.

Abstract:
Sense of presence is one of the most interesting phenomena that enriches users’ experiences of interacting with any type of system. It allows users to be there (Schloerb & Sheridan, 1995) and to perceive the virtual world as another world in which they really exist. The interest in presence phenomenon is not novel (Gerrig, 1993), but it has grown lately due to the advent of virtual reality (VR) technology. The specific characteristics of virtual environments (VEs) transform them into suitable experimental testbeds for studies in various research areas. This also resuscitated the interest in presence, and much work has focused on the development of a theoretical body of knowledge and on a whole set of experimental studies aimed at understanding, explaining, measuring, or predicting presence. All of these efforts have been made to increase the understanding of how presence can be manipulated within the VEs, particularly within the application areas where presence potential has been acknowledged. Probably one of the most important reasons motivating presence research is the relationship it holds with task performance. This debatable relationship together with the more obvious one between presence and user satisfaction suggest that presence may play an important role in the perceived system usability. Since presence may act as a catalyst for the learning potential of VEs, it can be harnessed for the training and transfer of skills (Mantovani & Castelnuovo, 1998; Schank, 1997). The potential of presence to increase the pervasive power of the delivered content motivates research on presence impact on e-marketing and advertising (Grigorovici, 2003). Another promising application area for presence research is within the realm of cognitive therapy of phobias (Strickland et al., 1997). The highly subjective nature of presence continues to challenge researchers to find appropriate methodologies and instruments for measuring it. This is reflected in the ongoing theoretical work of conceptualizing a sense of presence. The difficulties related to investigating presence led to a large set of definitions and measuring tools. The purpose of this article is to introduce the concept of presence. The first section offers some conceptual delimitations related to presence construct. The second section describes its main determinants along two dimensions (i.e., technological factors and human factors). The third section addresses the challenges of measuring presence, offering also an overview of the main methods, tools, and instruments developed for assessing it. The fourth section presents the complex relationship between presence and task performance.

Abstract:
The spent fuel still has massive decay heat and is temporarily stored in the spent fuel pool, after unloaded from the reactor core; it is cooled by the circulating water in the spent fuel pool. The present study generally agreed that the spent fuel pool is relatively safe when the cooling water works, even if under accident conditions. It is generally considered that the thermal-hydraulic process in the spent fuel pool is very slow, and does not endanger the safety of nuclear power plant. But the boiling in the pool has been given more and more attention after the Fukushima nuclear accident; e

Abstract:
To develop a fatigue design curve of cast stainless steel CF8M used in primary piping material of nuclear power plants, low-cycle fatigue tests have been conducted by Korea Electric Power Research Institute (KEPRI). A small autoclave simulated the environment of a pressurized water reactor (PWR), 15 MPa and 315 °C. Fatigue life was measured in terms of the number of cycles with the variation of strain amplitudes at 0.04%/s strain rate. A small autoclave of 1 liter and cylindrical solid fatigue specimens were used for the strain-controlled low cycle environmental fatigue tests to make the exper
