Abstract:
An improved method for spectral analysis of traction current of an Alternating Current (AC) electric locomotive is considered in the article. A new method of spectral analysis considers the change in voltage in the catenary system as a non-deterministic, non-ergodic and non-Gaussian process. It has been established that higher voltage harmonics in the catenary system have a significant negative effect on the operation of non-traction railway consumers of electricity. In addition, electric locomotives operating in the same feeder zone have a mutual influence on each other. Electric railway transport is a source of higher voltage harmonics and strongly distorts the shape of the sinusoidal voltage of the catenary system, which are caused by the higher spectral components of the current in the electric locomotive traction drive circuit. These spectral components of the traction current arise in the traction drive circuit due to the nonlinearity of the current-voltage characteristics of the electronic devices of an electric locomotive, for example, a contact rectifier, a capacitor circuit of traction motors. Reactive power compensators are used in electric locomotives to eliminate components of higher harmonic traction current in the catenary system. Traditionally, spectral analysis in such systems is performed using Fourier methods. However, the determination of the spectral components of the traction current by the Fourier method for constructing a control system for a reactive power compensator is possible only if the process of voltage variation is a deterministic or ergodic Gaussian process. Otherwise, the application of Fourier transform methods will be incorrect. An analysis of the factors that affect voltage changes in the catenary system showed that this process is significantly different from the ergodic Gaussian process. Such factors include the following: the operating mode of the electric locomotives; number and total capacity of electric locomotives in one feeder zone; electric locomotives passing through feeder zones; instability of collection current. Thus, in the case under consideration, the application of the Fourier methods is incorrect for the analysis of the spectral components of the traction current. This affects the quality of compensation of the higher harmonic components of the traction current, and in some cases, the unstable operation of the control system of the active part of the reactive power compensator. Proposed scientific approach is based on the Levinson–Durbin linear prediction algorithm. On the one hand, this allows adapting the control system of the compensator to the voltage parameters of the catenary system. On the other hand, this allows taking into account the operating modes of electric rail vehicle with reactive power compensation. The construction of a compensator control system using the Levinson–Durbin algorithm significantly simplifies thensynchronization scheme of the compensator and power circuits of the traction electric drive of AC electric locomotive. A comparison of the traditional method of spectral analysis, based on the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), and the method, based on the Levinson–Durbin algorithm, proposed by the authors, showed the high efficiency of the latter.

Abstract:
The paper deals with the topical problem of the large cities development – to improve the quality of ser-vice for the population by electric municipal transport and to solve this problem by informatization of the management system. Currently, various information systems are widely used to support the work of dispatch services. The paper provides an overview of such systems. It is shown that dispatchers are pro-vided with real-time data on the technical condition and position of transport units on the route. Thus, the main means of ensuring the high-quality work of urban transport by dispatch services is the drawing up of traffic schedules based on some statistical data and heuristics, monitoring the implementation of this schedule and making decisions based on these data. At the same time, data on the current value of passenger traffic are not known and are not taken into account. Passenger traffic is a value of a complex nature, the current value of which may differ significantly from the provided traffic schedule. The paper provides data of model studies on real data (for Kharkiv city). It is shown that in large cities the proba-bility of denied boarding can be critically high even with small deviations in occupying and intervals from the provided values by the traffic schedule. The concept of an information system is proposed, which in real time visualizes on the dispatcher’s screen not only the position, but also the degree of loading of transport units on the route. It is proposed to determine the occupancy rate of the vehicle by the power consumed by the electric motors while driving. The fundamental possibility of such approach is shown on the example of simple model. It is indicated how this model can be improved as well. It is essential for the practical implementation of the system that modern trams are equipped with all the necessary devices: a speedometer, an inclinometer, a wattmeter and GPS sensors. The basic principles of building the architecture of such an information system are given. The current data of the devices is read and sent to the server for processing. The processed data is divided into two streams. One stream is intended for online visualization of the situation on the routes on the dispatcher’s monitor. Another stream is data that is transferred to the repository for storage and further processing.

Abstract:
Information provision can mitigate the drawbacks of electric vehicle use. In this paper, we elaborate an integrated Information Service (IS) for Plug-in Electric Vehicle (PEV) users that cover each process of use. The system elements and their relations are modelled. We deduce the functions from the negatives of electric vehicles compared to conventional ones. The information management processes are elaborated in detail. We focus on the charging and recharging periods considering dynamic electricity rates in the Smart Grid in order to minimalize the cost of charging from the user’s perspective. We elaborate a cost saving method and evaluate the effects of dynamic tariff and forethoughtful behaviour. Since our proposed information, service covers each phase of use and reduces charging costs the presented solution simplifies electric vehicle use and improves efficiency. Furthermore, we elaborate the automatic charging scheduling methods that significantly reduce the charging cost and the fluctuation of the electricity demand.

Abstract:
Since the ratification of the Kyoto Protocol more and more emphasis is laid on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The article analyses the feasibility of introducing electric vehicles into traffic rather than vehicles with internal combustion engines. From standpoint of emission sources use of electricity for transport is analysed with stress on private cars and typical emissions from power sector by energy conversion in Slovenia. Results of research shows that electric car has a little more than twice better efficiency of the primary energy use, taking into account only efficiency in the energy chain. Electric mobility brings a more efficient use of energy in road transport with demand to reduce emission at power generation. So presented number can vary greatly, depending on the electrical energy source. In the present research problems connected with immediate initiation of the electric cars are not analysed.

Abstract:
Research shows that the existing theory and methods for calculating rational operating modes of traction electrical equipment do not provide a sufficient level of adequacy under real operating conditions of urban electric transport, which is due to the high complexity of the processes and the lack of a sufficiently developed methodology for their interpretation in industry theory. The purpose of the study was researching the process of electric traction as a result of transformation electrical energy in purposeful mechanical movement of electric rolling stock with the implementation of all technological conditions of production and technical system of urban electric transport. The scientific hypothesis that the modes of operation of electric traction equipment as part of an automated electric drive of the rolling stock of urban electric transport are formed under the influence of a complexly organized technological process of electric traction and are the topological basis of its structure is theoretically substantiated. The main result of the research is the formulated theoretical system which allows us to present the process of electric traction as a system consisting of five levels that are in hierarchical relations and solve each specific problem of building the movement of electric transport. Such an approach will contribute to the development of theory and methods for calculating rational operating modes of traction electrical equipment of urban electric transport, the improvement of the energy efficiency of which is the actual scientific problem.

Modern methods for analyzing and assessing the reliability of complex technical systems consider only its individual elements. The specifics of structural-functional interactions and integration into subsystems of different hierarchical levels are not taken into account. Studies show that analyzing the reliability of urban electric transport, also focus on individual components: the reliability of electric traction rolling stock, the reliability of the power supply system, the reliability of the track infrastructure, etc. The authors propose an approach that allows to consider urban electric transport as a complex technical system consisting of several levels that are hierarchically subordinate. Each level combines the components directly involved in the transmission and transformation of electric power into mechanical operation of the rolling stock under the influence of the external environment by means of traction electrical equipment. This approach will allow to develop the theoretical foundations of methods for analyzing the impact of the reliability of individual components of a complex technical system of urban electric transport on the effectiveness of the electric traction implementation.

Technique for calculating the temperature dependences of transport characteristics of different carbon nanoparticles: single-walled nanotubes, graphene, bilayer graphene in a constant external electric field is proposed. Formulas for conductivity and the diffusion coefficient of electrons in carbon nanostructures obtained analytically and analyzed numerically. Conductivity in single-walled and bilayer carbon nanostructures decreases with increasing temperature. The electrical conductivity of carbon nanoparticles depends nonlinearly on the amplitude of the external constant electric field for various temperatures. With increasing temperature, the coefficient of conductivity decreases. The diffusion coefficient of electrons is independent of temperature for both single-layer and bilayer nanoparticles. A nonlinear dependence of the electron diffusion coefficient on the strength of an external constant electric field is shown. Physical justification of the obtained dependences is propose.

Particular attention on the railway must be paid to environmental protection and a rational approach to the use of natural resources. In the modern world, new solutions are found to solve environmental and energy conservation issues, this is facilitated by large corporations and their fi nancing of projects. Technological modernization of old systems brings enterprises to a new level and allows them to be competitive in the international market. The construction of railway lines leads to an increase in fuel consumption, which increases the emissions of various elements into the atmosphere. The creation of electric locomotives, the introduction of modern equipment, the modernization of diesel locomotives (contact-battery electric locomotive of the VL26 series) lead to a decrease in the level of atmospheric air pollution and makes it possible to reduce the maximum permissible concentrations of heavy elements in the environment. The experience of using Russian Railways technologies for energy saving and reducing the level of environmental pollution was studied. The forecasts for the use of a contact-battery electric locomotive of the VL26 series, designed to replace shunting diesel locomotives, which showed shortcomings and a loss of almost 70 % of the energy coming from the contact network, are presented. The modernization of diesel locomotives is considered, which will make it possible to reduce the consumption of fuel, oil and increase the energy effi ciency of the drive with switched reluctance machines, and therefore reduce the level of environmental pollution. The use of electrical power transmission with switched reluctance machines reduces maintenance and repair costs due to the features of electrical machines and the converter.

Abstract:
One of the most commonly used means of the city’s electric traffic system is trolleybus that has a lot of advantages in comparison with fixed-route taxis, buses and trams. During trolleybuses operation, the most electric and mechanical load has an effect on the traction electric engines, on which the further effective operation of a trolleybus on a transfer line depends. Statistic data concerning the trolleybuses operations in Ukraine prove that reliability of traction electric engines has been reduced for subjective and objective reasons over the past 10-15 years. New developments and the use of technologies are therefore needed for more effective use of the known technical equipment, its modernization, reliability improvement and extending the service life. To determine the effectiveness of trolleybus operation on the route, the modern methods of reliability assessment of the traction electric engines are used, which allow to get adequate characteristics of the structure, functional links of parts and units. But some methods don’t meet the necessary requirements to ensure the reliability of traction electric engines operation. So the subject and the tasks of the research work are still relevant today. New solutions of characterization the reliability of traction electric engines guarantee reducing energy and resource consumption during operation, repair and production. A methodology is presented that allows assessing the operational reliability of electrical machines from the point of view of system analysis. Uncertainty of information data arising during the operation of electrical machines is considered. The decomposition of the goal for the efficient operation and maintenance of electrical machines has been carried out, which is reflected in the form of a "goal tree". The results obtained can be used as initial data for the formulation and solution of a number of problems of control over the operational reliability of electrical machines.

Abstract:
This article discusses the issues of autonomous operation of electrical agricultural equipment based on the transmission of electricity over a distance. The main point of this article is that tractors that work in the field are driven by electric motors, with the need to use expensive batteries. The issues of the impact and safety of this technology on the environment and humans are considered. The main problem of the creation, maintenance and operation of transport equipment, including agricultural equipment, is the high cost of maintenance and fuel, which are constantly increasing. In addition, the environmental problem, which has become so acute in recent years, global warming, the fuel crisis and the need to transfer all transport equipment to electric traction, make us look for new ways to solve the problem of environmental pollution and save resources, especially non-renewable energy sources. The use of electrical energy for traction of agricultural machinery that work in the fields or in other industries has been used for a long time, and in the early stages of the development of transport, it was electric transport that occupied the main part, before the invention of the internal combustion engine. Including at the Kharkov Tractor Plant there were developments (and still are), a prototype of the use of electric motors as the main unit for movement. Based on the above, it is obvious that electric traction for transport is obviously environmentally friendly and safe, although there are a number of limitations in this matter as well, but the unresolved problems of the limited use of the storage battery force us to look for new sources of energy. This article proposes to consider the possibility of using electric traction for agricultural machinery with the supply of operating tractors in the fields with the help of a directed electromagnetic wave with its transformation into electrical energy, which will be supplied to the electric motor.

Abstract:
The bicycle has gone from being an old-fashioned recreational product to a less polluting means of transport and a compact, ultra-light personal mobility tool. This is how electrical bicycles will be used as the pillar that could support individual public transport in large cities worldwide. The objective of this manuscript is to detect how worldwide research on the electric bicycle is being developed, and, especially, around which scientific domains is it clustered, to finally identify the main trends in the field. This study has been carried out based on the Scopus database, where all the publications related to the topic of the electric bicycle have been analyzed up to the year 2017. ¨Therefore, research on the global research trends of this topic was conducted. Its evolution over time shows that since 2008 the growth of publications is much higher than in the previous period. The main countries are China and the USA, and it can be inferred that there are two major trend countries with high environmental awareness, which also have a large population and that the electric bicycle is a suitable and sustainable form of transport. Among the main scientific fields, engineering leads in research. The keyword analysis shows that the central theme is electric, then battery and motor stand out. A community detection was applied to detect the six main clusters of this research, largely dedicated to the following topics: Transportation–Environment, Electrical Engineering, Safety, Batteries, Sporting Goods–Urban Planning, and Mechanical Engineering. This manuscript shows that global research trends about the electric bicycle are increasing, and that it should be considered a means of sustainable urban transport and will therefore contribute to energy saving and sustainable energy.

Abstract:
Energy conservation is one of the key priorities of sustainable development strategy. Transport systems are responsible for about one third of energy consumption. As result, the identification of solutions to reduce energy consumption in these systems is essential for the implementation of the sustainable development strategies. The present work is dedicated to identifying the possibilities for a reduction in the consumption of electric energy in electric urban public transport systems, using the audit of their electricity system. After justifying the importance of these concerns, a mathematical model of the electrical energy balance of the electric urban public transport system and its components is presented. The analysis is applied to determine the losses in the system components and useful energy, based on the evaluation and energy consumption measurements. The measurements to reduce energy losses are identified and characterized under technical and economic aspect, optimal electrical energy balances being done on this basis.

Abstract:
This research is aimed at studying the possible advantages of installing, for a hybrid propulsion aircraft, electric motors and related propellers into the dedicated supplementary nacelles. This innovative solution is different from the configuration, already studied for a regional turboprop (Chiesa et al.2013), in which the electric motors are in the same nacelles of the internal combustion engines. As it has been expected, it offers the advantages of avoiding mechanical links between the two units and, more importantly, can also be applied to jet aircraft. In fact, the main contribution of electric motors is expected during ground operations, take-off and descent phases (i.e. at low speed), in which it can be useful to integrate the propellers or even substitute the jet engines with them. At high speed, the propellers, of course, are configured in order to reduce drag. When considering the design of a new airliner concept, a preliminary design study is necessary to optimize the location of the supplementary nacelles. The nacelles, which only hold the electrical motor, can also be considered retractable, as is usual for a RAT (Ram Air Turbine). Please note that in the hybrid propulsion context, the RAT function can be clearly allocated to the electric motor, with the advantages of optimizing drag at high speed, taking into account installation problems.

Abstract:
A three-valley Monte Carlo simulation approach was used to investigate electron transport in wurtzite GaN such as the drift velocity, the drift mobility, the average electron energy, energy relaxation time, and momentum relaxation time at high electric fields. The simulation accounted for polar optical phonon, acoustic phonon, piezoelectric, intervalley scattering, and Ridley charged impurity scattering model. For the steady-state transport, the drift velocity against electric field showed a negative differential resistance of a peak value of 2.9×105 m/s at a critical electric field strength 180×105 V/m. The electron drift velocity relaxes to the saturation value of 1.5×105 m/s at very high electric fields. The electron velocities against time over wide range of electric fields are reported.

The transit of reactive power through the electric transport lines due to the inductive loads, creates problems of instabilities on the electrical networks. Transport networks are increasingly vulnerable to instability of voltage due to industrialization and/or population growth. The managers of these networks are therefore seeking effective solutions to these problems. STATCOM is one of the devices of the family of shunt FACTS used for reactive energy compensation. It generally offers better features compared other FACTS devices and conventional reactive compensation devices. This work aims to apply the STATCOM controlled by the current control method by hysteresis bands for the maintenance of the voltage in an electric transport network. The transport network is modeled as a transport line in MATLAB/SIMULINK and its characteristics are compared to the system without STATCOM.

Abstract:
The main drivers of the electric cars diffusion which is projected in the next decade are to be seen in the industry effort to create new spaces in mature car markets (supply side), and in demand side effects of current climate mitigation policies in the transport sector, focused on CO2 emissions and energy efficiency of new vehicles sold. Indeed the energy performances of electric vehicles are projected to be highly variable; the final results of fleet average comparisons with internal combustion engines vehicles will be affected by at least: a) the real energy efficiency of the EV models (in particu- lar by their weight), b) the battery efficiency rate; c) the average energy losses of the national grids, and d) the national thermoelectric generation efficiency. For example, if sensitivity analysis on Germany or USA power plants efficiencies is undergone, EV primary energy consumptions result to be respectively +8% and +30% higher than conventional ICE cars. Moreover, EV credentials in terms of transport external costs reduction are very poor, particularly for congestion. If we look at research results comparing the external costs of different transport modes, high net benefits may be alternatively seen in public transport and rail based mobility (and also in short sea shipping for certain freight transport types) either in terms of energy efficiency and external costs reduction. An EU27 wide transport indicator based analysis is provided in chapter 4 to better highlight this "structural" additional driver of transport external costs, which has strictly little to do with vehicle level efficiency, rather it represents an efficiency in urban planning and infrastructural planning: a "system" efficiency in providing availability and access to highly energy efficient transport modes and services. In the final chapter recommendations for transport and energy European policies are provided, starting from a target setting based on external costs indicators (capturing also and not exclusively the energy efficiency and savings potential offered by transport infrastructures and vehicles), followed by an urgently needed Long term Action plan for railways networks and intermodality development. As to EVs, it is recommended to regulate them under an extension of the current EU CO2/km average target approach, by setting a common (final) energy consumption efficiency standard for all car innovations. Public funds collected from external costs road charging may be better concentrated by EU and Member States on this infrastructural Action Plan rather than on urban electricity grids for EVs.

The article is devoted to the design of an asynchronous traction motor intended for work as part of an electric drive of vehicles: electric vehicles, electric buses, trams, trolley buses. The object of the study is a medium-sized bus. The required traction characteristics of the electric motor are constructed, the nominal and limiting characteristics of the increased torque. The dynamic characteristics have been built for a bus with a mechanical transmission and a diesel engine, as well as for a bus with an electric motor. A method is proposed for designing an electric motor based on mathematical modelling of its operation in the software complexes ANSYS RMxprt and INFOLYTICA MAGNET. According to this technique, the main parameters of the electric motor are determined. The results of modelling are given, graphs of the criteria dependence on the electric motor parameters. Experimental studies of the electric motor have been carried out. The results of mathematical modelling are compared with experimental ones. It was found that the discrepancy between the results of experimental and theoretical studies is no more than 5 %.

Abstract:
The issue of increasing the efficiency of urban electric transport through the introduction of CASE-technologies based on SADT-methodology is considered. The performance of the system analysis of the operation of urban electric transport is given. The system of urban electric transport is considered not as an isolated system that solves only its problems - making a profit, but in connection with the problems of the city, the population that uses transport services, enterprises that employ people who transport. The proposed methodology will allow to create a computer functional model of operation of electric vehicles in the IDEF0 format using the software package BPWin. It is shown that the operation of transport is a complex process consisting of three subsystems: operation management, commercial and technical operation. Each of these subsystems has its own functional tasks, which require appropriate resources. Therefore, to ensure resource conservation in the operation of rolling stock, the following levels of development are presented and considered: the city transport system, urban electric transport enterprises, technological processes of passenger transportation, maintenance, maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment. Also operation of city electric transport includes maintenance of vehicles in depot. This article describes the features of the impact of the rolling stock of urban electric transport on energy consumption, taking into account the influence of factors such as passenger cabin occupancy, mileage of the mobile unit when operating on the routes of large cities, operating speed. A new methodology for evaluating the work of a city electric transport company is presented, which allows to combine several different, economically independent enterprises into one functional model. It is shown that the use of the proposed model will make it possible to create a system of accounting for electricity consumption by different types of urban electric transport.

Abstract:
The article presents, in a multifaceted manner, the changes that occurred in urban electric transport in Ukraine after 1991. The purpose of the article is to research the diversification of the degree and directions of development and transformation of urban electric transport systems in the context of the transport policy. The legal and financial conditions for the functioning and development of the system are discussed, and a SWOT analysis of the current situation is carried out. In order to assess the direction of the changes occurring on individual networks, a synthetic index was used, constructed on the basis of the statistical data from 25 years available. The research has shown that in 1991‒2016, in the vast majority of Ukrainian cities there was a regression in urban electric transport, the largest in the east of Ukraine. That was of a bipartite nature: in the first years it practically applied to all networks, later a polarization in cities occurred ‒ in parts of cities the situation of urban electric transport has improved slightly. In the context of numerous diagnosed problems, the challenges faced by urban electric transport in Ukraine were indicated.

Abstract:
Reducing the cost of electricity consumption by industrial enterprises is the most important area of increasing the operational efficiency of their activities. The article is devoted to the issue of reducing the cost of paying for the service component of the transport component of purchased electrical energy from industrial enterprises that have technological connection to the electrical networks of electricity producers. The article makes an empirical study of the features of the pricing of payment for the services of the transport component of purchased electrical energy for industrial enterprises connected to the electric grids of electricity producers with the identification of factors influencing the overestimation of the cost of paid electricity, and calculating such overestimations using the example of a typical schedule of electricity consumption of a machinebuilding enterprise for various regions Russia. On the basis of the developed author's indicators (tariff coefficient for electricity transportation by the level of GNP, index of tariff coefficient for electricity transportation, weighted average price for electricity transportation, index of weighted average price for electricity transportation, integral index of efficiency of GNP tariffs) study of the effectiveness of the application of tariffs for the transport of electricity for industrial enterprises connected to the electric networks of electricity producers. Based on the calculated indicators, the article groups the regions into three main groups, with the development of recommendations for managing the cost of purchasing electricity by the component of the cost of the transport component of purchased electricity in each group. As the most optimal option for reducing the cost of electricity transportation, the author proposes the introduction of demand management for electricity consumption, which will reduce the costs of industrial enterprises that pay for the transport component of purchased electricity at unfavorable tariff configurations.

Abstract:
By using electric field induced optical second harmonic generation (EFISHG) and current voltage (I–V) measurements, we studied the electrical transport mechanism of organic doublelayer diodes with a structure of Au/N, N′-di-[(1-naphthyl)-N, N′-diphenyl]-(1,1′-biphenyl)-4,4′-diamine (α-NPD)/poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/indium zinc oxide (IZO). Here the α-NPD is a carrier transport layer and the PMMA is an electrical insulating layer. The current level was very low, but the I–V characteristics showed a rectifying behavior. The EFISHG measurement selectively and directly probed the electric field across the α-NPD layer, and showed that the electric field across the α-NPD layer is completely relaxed owing to the charge accumulation at the α-NPD/PMMA interface in the region V>0, whereas the carrier accumulation was not significant in the region V<0. On the basis of these experimental results, we proposed a model of the rectification. Further, by coupling the I–V characteristics with the EFISHG measurement, the I–V characteristics of the diodes were well converted into the current-electric field (I–E) characteristics of the α-NPD layer and the PMMA layer. The I–E characteristics suggested the Schottky-type conduction governs the carrier transport. We conclude that the I–V measurement coupled with the EFISHG measurement is very useful to study carrier transport mechanism of the organic double-layer diodes.

Abstract:
Organic semiconductors have processing and performance advantages for low cost and/or large area applications that have led to their rapid commercialization. Organic semiconductors are π conjugated materials, either small molecules or polymers. Their electrical transport properties are fundamentally distinct from those of inorganic semiconductors. Organic semiconductor thin films are amorphous or polycrystalline and their electronic structures consist of a distribution of localized electronic states with different energies. The localized sites are either individual molecules or isolated conjugated segments of a polymer chain. Electrical transport results from carrier hopping between neighboring sites. At room temperature, equilibration between neighboring sites of different energy is fast enough that carrier transport can be described using a mobility picture. Hopping transport in these disordered systems leads to a mobility that can depend strongly on both the electric field and carrier density. This article presents experimental measurements and theoretical analysis of the electrical transport properties of representative organic semiconductors.
