The electrical resistance breakdown of the Madin-Darby canine kidney (MDCK) cell monolayer provides a continuous assay system for cancer invasion that detects functional changes before morphological alterations. When human melanoma cells were seeded directly (i.e., physical contact) on top of an electrically tight epithelial cell layer (5,800 ± 106 Ω · cm2), electrical monolayer leakage led to an 18 ± 3% reduction of transepithelial electrica

In the context of a current joint research project a monitoring system to detect leakages in bridges is implemented by using a textile reinforced concrete interlayer which consists of two carbon meshes with a spacing of 15 mm and a new developed mortar. Between the two carbon meshes the resistivity is measured with alternating current. If a leakage in the bridge deck sealing occurs and water gets into the interlayer a drop in the measured resistivity occurs and the leakage is detected. In this case repair measures can be carried out in an early stage or a preventive cathodic protection can be

Gate leakage variability in nano-scale CMOS devices is investigated through advanced modelling and simulations of planar, bulk-type MOSFETs. The motivation for the work stems from the two of the most challenging issues in front of the semiconductor industry - excessive leakage power, and device variability - both being brought about with the aggressive downscaling of device dimensions to the nanometer scale. The aim is to deliver a comprehensive tool for the assessment of gate leakage variability in realistic nano-scale CMOS transistors. We adopt a 3D drift-diffusion device simulation approach

This paper reports a new study where leakages through a seal in an SOFC button cell is investigated in details. A 2D model is used to determine different flow characteristics of the leakages and its effects on the cell performance. The leakage effects on the performance are studied at different seal porosities and other parameters are also investigated. The results of this investigation indicate that a seal leakage can affect the cell performance significantly if the leak comes from outside the test rig. That is, an air leak must be present through the seal and must flow into the anode chamber

This approach is seen as a way to improve the availability and affordability of essential services, thus enhancing overall social welfare. However, while the rationale for socialized pricing mechanisms is widely accepted, discussions related to funding have induced much debate. Some studies have found
