Electrically conductive zirconia tungsten carbide composites are attractive materials for manufacturing precision components by electrical discharge machining due to their high strength, toughness and electrical conductivity. In this study, nanocomposite ceramics with a ytterbia samaria co-stabilized zirconia 1.5Yb-1.5Sm-TZP matrix and 24–32 vol.% tungsten carbide dispersion were manufactured by spark plasma sintering (SPS) at 1400 °C for 15 min at 60 MPa pressure. The materials exhibited high strengths of 1300–1600 MPa, a moderate fracture resistance of 6 MPa√m and an ultrafine microstructure

We describe an approach to electrically control the strong interaction between a single electron spin and the vibrational motion of a suspended carbon nanotube resonator. The strength of the deflection-induced spin-phonon coupling is dependent on the wavefunction of the electron confined in a lateral carbon nanotube quantum dot. An electrical field along the nanotube shifts the effective center of the quantum dot, leading to the corresponding modification of the spin-phonon strength. Abstract:
Electrically conductive acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesives containing carbon black Acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSA) are non electrical conductive materials. The electrical conductivity is incorporated into acrylic self-adhesive polymer after adding electrically conductive additives like carbon black, especially nano carbon black. After an addition of electrical conductive carbon black, the main and typical properties of pressure-sensitive adhesives such as tack, peel adhesion and shear strength, are deteriorated. The investigations reveals that the acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesi

Fibre-reinforced concrete (FRC) contains fibrous material which upsurges its structural integrity. The use of irregular arrangement of fibres to concrete altogether upgrades its essential characteristics, for instance, influence quality, static flexural strength, elasticity and flexural stiffness. Filaments are further added to cement to control breaking because of plastic shrinkage and to drying shrinkage. This research paper shows and compare the use of electrical waste copper wire fibre and electrical waste glass fibre of various percentages of volume fractions such as 0.25%, 0.5%, 0.75%, 1

This paper reports the investigation on both high and normal strength concrete using a non-contact electrical resistivity facility. The bulk resistivity development (ρ(t)-t curves) of the fresh concretes was evaluated from casting to 72h. The relationship between the electrical resistivity and the pore structure obtained from mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP) method was analyzed. And the compressive strength evolution of fresh high- and normal- strength concrete was studied based on the bulk resistivity at early ages. The experiment results indicated a linear relationship between the fractio

The tensile strength, proof strength, hardness and electrical conductivity of Al alloy 7010 under different temper and ageing conditions were investigated with the aim to correlate strength with hardness and electrical conductivity so that the strength of the alloy can be determined nondestructively. Following the solutionising treatment, continuous age hardening was performed on a series of test coupons, taken from a large plate, to produce a wide range of precipitation hardening conditions, which gave rise to progressive variations of strength, hardness and conductivity. To improve the conductivity and flexural strength of bipolar plates for proton-exchange membrane fuel cells, multi-filler-reinforced composites were prepared using graphite, multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), chopped carbon fibers (CCFs), and phenolic resin (PF). The effects of CCF content (0–6 wt.%) and MWCNT content (0–8 wt.%) on the flexural strength, electrical conductivity, interfacial contact resistance (ICR), density, hydrophobicity, and corrosion behavior of the composites were investigated. Results showed that the addition of a small number of CCFs (≤4 wt.%) effectively improved t

In oil-paper insulation systems, it is easy to accumulate space/interface charge under a direct current (DC) electrical field. At present, direct measurement of space/interface charge for a thick multi-layer insulation system is not possible. It is necessary to study the multi-layer oil-paper insulation system via simulation method. In this paper, the space/interface charge simulation based on the bipolar charge transport model and a simulation parameter using FEM for the multi-layer oil–paper insulation system was proposed.
