Abstract:
Abstract Artificial intelligence technology is the basic measure to ensure the good operation of electrical automation control system of electromechanical equipment. Because artificial intelligence technology is widely used, it mainly uses auxiliary electrical automation control systems such as data real-time monitoring, data acquisition and data mining in electrical automation control technology of electromechanical equipment. The application of artificial intelligence auxiliary system in electrical automation is mainly data acquisition, which integrates and analyzes the data generated in the production process of electrical automation system equipment. During the operation of the electrical automation system of electromechanical equipment, the data generated is extensive, the amount of calculation is large and the analysis is complex. Once the equipment fault occurs, it is easy to affect the electrical automation system and even the business activities of the enterprise. Therefore, the purpose of applying artificial intelligence technology to the production process of electrical automation system equipment is to centrally process the data parameters entered by electromechanical equipment, so that the accuracy of operating parameters of electrical automation control system of electromechanical equipment can be greatly improved, which is conducive to the stable development of production efficiency.

Abstract:
This thesis treats surface engineering with the purpose of improved quality of optical and electricalconnectors with a focus on electroplated and magnetron sputtered materials. In electroforming of tools formanufacturing optical connectors, the influence of ultrasonic agitation on intrinsic stresses and fillingproperties of electroplated Ni has been studied. It is established that the ultrasonic agitation at the substratesurface during deposition impacts the intrinsic stresses making it possible to increase deposition rate viacurrent density, with stress-free or low-stress levels in the Ni layers. Reduced variations of the intrinsicstress over the surface with the current density is a further important result. Filling of grooves byelectroplating of Ni using ultrasonic agitation is demonstrated. This is due to increasing mass transport ofspecies into the grooves compared to conventional pumped agitation. The enhanced filling propertiesmakes it possible to electroplate Ni in the bottom of high-aspect-ratio grooves. In order to industriallyimplement new nanocomposite coatings on electronic connectors, studies have been performed regardingthe thermal diffusion barrier properties against Cu for Ti-Si-C and Ti-Si-C-Ag nanocomposites, depositeddirectly onto Cu substrates or with sputtered Ni, Ti or electroplated Ni as an intermediate coating. Theapplication of an electroplated Ni diffusion barrier coating, hinders Cu from reaching the surface of thenanocomposites. Also, Ti-Si-C-Ag nanocomposite deposited on magnetron sputtered Ni or Ti on Cusubstrates hinder Cu from diffusing to the surface after annealing. The contact resistance of Ag-Pdtopcoated Ti-Si-C-Ag-Pd and Ti-Si-C-Ag nanocomposite coatings in contact with hard gold is shown tocompete with hard gold in contact with itself, as electrical contact coatings at contact forces around 5 N.Ag-Pd topcoated Ti-Si-C-Ag-Pd in contact with hard gold is shown to have approximately the same contactresistance as hard gold in contact with hard gold at contact forces around 0.1 N, which here is in the 10 mΩrange, while Ti-Si-C-Ag nanocomposite coatings in contact with hard gold has a contact resistance that isup to 10 times higher. The overall contribution of this thesis can be summarised as a deeper knowledge andunderstanding of techniques and coatings, that help reduce cost and increase reliability of electronics.

Abstract:
As feature sizes continue to decrease, fundamental properties of MOSFET devices begin to hinder the performance gains from one generation to another. The advent of the Tunneling Field Effect Transistor (TFET) provides hope for continued reduction in feature size whilst solving some of the scaling issues such as leakage current. The purpose of this work is to discuss key metrics that help to quantify the improvements among technology nodes, specifically a comparison between TFETs and traditional MOSFETs. Test structures that allow for the measurement of on and off current, device speed, variation as it relates to on current and threshold voltage, as well as SRAM yield and bitcell read and write noise margins are discussed. In addition, a slight modification to a rapid characterization test structure used to measure threshold variation is proven to help reduce leakage seen within the test structure. Lastly, the structures are actually fabricated in a 90nm bulk and a 45nm SOI process and measurements from the 90nm bulk process are presented.

Abstract:
Recently ultra-thin embedded die technology gained much attention for their reduced footprint, light weight, conformality and three-dimensional assembly capabilities. The traditional flexible circuit fabrication process showed its limitations to meet the demand for increasing packaging density. The embedded die technology can be successfully utilized to develop flexible printed circuits that will satisfy the demand for reliable and high density packaging. With a tremendous application potential in wearable and disposable electronics, the reliability of the flexible embedded die package is of paramount importance. Presented is the author's contribution to the novel fabrication process for flexible packages with ultrathin (below 50 ?m) dice embedded into organic polymer substrate and the results from the investigation of the electrical performance of embedded bare dice bumped using three different techniques. In this research, embedded flexible microelectronic packaging technology was developed and reliability of different packages was evaluated through JEDEC test standards based on their electrical performance. The reliability test of the developed packages suggested the better and stable performance of stud bump bonded packages. This research also covered the thinning and handling ultra-thin chips, die metallization, stud bump formation, laser ablation of polymers, and assembly of ultra-thin die. The stud bumped flexible packages that were designed and developed in this research have promising application potential in wearable RFID tags, smart textile and three dimensional-stacked packaging, among the many other application areas.

Abstract:
Graphene is an extraordinary material which shows tremendous potential as a replacement for silicon in many electronic applications. However, one major drawback to graphene is its zero band gap. Previous research in tight binding models have predicted band gap opening in graphene under tensile strain. New experimental tight binding models were formulated and compared to previous models in order to determine the strains necessary to induce a band gap in graphene. Using CVD graphene, a transfer method and etching method were successfully devised in order to fabricate future graphene devices. These devices were conceptualized such that they could be strained in order to experimentally confirm band gap openings. Future work will consist of further perfecting the graphene fabrication techniques and performing electrical testing on CVD graphene devices which could have wide ranging transistor and sensor applications.

Abstract:
A near-infrared spectrometer incorporating solid-state design applicable for industrial quantitative/qualitative process monitoring analysis is presented. The solid-state near-infrared spectrometer provides inherent wavelength stability necessary for long term calibration accuracy. The spectrometer consists of a 24 volt, 10 watt quartz-halogen-tungsten regulated source with optical feedback. Wavelength dispersion was accomplished using a 50 μm entrance slit, f/4, 0.25 meter spectrograph equipped with astigmatism correcting toroidal mirrors and a 300 gr/mm plane reflectance ruled grating blazed for 2000 nm peak efficiency. A 1024 element backside- illuminated Schottky-barrier PtSi photodiode array detector with wavelength response from 900-5000 nm and peak quantum efficiency of 8% at 1100 nm was operated using cryogenic cooling to reduce dark response. A readout rate of 31.25 kHz produced 41 msec integration time per array read. The readout was digitized to 16 bit resolution for subsequent data storage. This system demonstrated 1.5 nm spectral bandpass, 3 orders linear dynamic range and typical baseline rms noise level of 10⁻⁴ a.u. Using this system, quantitative/qualitative chemical analyses were performed focusing on industrial analytical chemical applications. Simultaneous quantitative multcomponent xylene isomer mixtures analysis was achieved using the solid-state near-infrared spectrometer coupled with partial least squares regression multivariate data treatment. The results demonstrate an absolute accuracy of ± 0.05, ±0.12 and ±0.09% w/v for o-, m- and p-xylene isomers respectively. In a separate chemical study, qualitative classification analysis of specially denatured alcohol mixtures was successfully performed on 53 validation samples using 35 reference samples belonging to 12 classes. The validation set included mixture sample types used for model calibration as well as others composed of compounds not used for model calibration. The multivariate cluster classification method using principal components was employed to correctly classify 100% of the validations samples analyzed. The solid-state near-infrared spectrometer was also applied for direct reaction monitoring of the O-H overtone absorption band at 1411 nm for the reaction between triisopropyl-chlorosilane and methanol. The results illustrated the utility of near-infrared functional group monitoring of reactions at relatively high concentrations for information elucidation concerning reaction initiation and completion.

Abstract:
For decades, advances in device scaling has proven to be critical in improving the performance and productivity of 2D systems. In this thesis, we explore how advances in technology have pushed functional integration to such a high-level that interconnection and packaging issues represent real barriers to further progress. While three-dimensional (3D) integration offers to be a potential contender to overcome the barriers of increased energy consumption due to interconnects and bandwidth limitations, there are certain challenges that must be overcome before systems can be successfully stacked. Cooling and power delivery are among these key challenges in the integration of high performance 3D ICs. To address these challenges, microchannel heat sinks for inter-stratum cooling and through-silicon vias (TSVs) for signaling and power delivery between stacked ICs were explored. Novel integration schemes to integrate these uidic and electrical interconnects in conventional CMOS processes were also explored. Compact physical modeling was utilized to understand the trade-offs involved in the integration of electrical and microfluidic interconnects in a 3D IC stack. These concepts were demonstrated experimentally by showing different CMOS compatible methods of fabricating microchannels and integration of high aspect ratio (~20:1) and high density (200,000/cm²) electrical TSVs in the fins of the microchannels for signaling and power delivery. A novel mesh process for bottom up plating of high aspect ratio TSVs is also shown in this work. Fluidic reliability measurements are shown to demonstrate the feasibility of this technology. This work also demonstrates the design and fabrication of a 3D testbed which consists of a 2 chip stack with microchannel cooling on each level. Preliminary testing of the stack along with interlayer electro-fluidic I/Os has also been demonstrated.

Abstract:
Bibliography: leaves 70-72.
The objective of this thesis is to design and program an application for the Linux based Axis Etrax100LX developer board using the C programming language. This application will collect sensor data (4-20mA signals as the standard analog inputs and 0-5V as the digital inputs) from the serial port of the Etrax100LX developer board, save them to a file on the developer board and make this data available for remote access. The idea behind using the Etrax100LX development board and writing software for it is to build a wireless, web-based monitoring system for electrical and mechanical rotating machineray which makes the data available for remote access. Bluetooth is a wireless, data transmission technology [13] designed specifically for use in Personal Area Networks (PANs) where up to seven Bluetooth enabled computing devices such as Personal Computers and Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) can form either a Group ad-hoc Network (GN or Bluetooth Piconet) or a network where one of them acts as a proxy, router or bridge (Network Access Point, NAP) between and existing network inftrastructure (typically LAN) and the other Bluetooth devices [14].

Abstract:
Abstract This paper will describe the analysis, optimisation and subsequent implementation of an electrical protection system utilised on a subsea Electrically Heat-Traced Flowline system (EHTF) using conventional topsides power protection equipment deployed in a novel topology. It will also discuss the project-imposed challenge of protecting an electrical subsea system of significant length from only a single feeder protection whilst keeping it simple, sensitive, rapid, and covering 100% of the long heating cable length. The paper will describe the detailed electrical analysis methods deployed, the additional electrical verification carried out and the decision-making processes and drivers choice used during an electrical system design optimisation challenge that was conducted in a short timeframe and planned around operational assets. The close collaboration between contractor, client, vendors and third-party expertise was fundamental to solve successfully the challenges and mitigate the overall risks. Key engineering processes described: Subsea Umbilical Riser and Flowline (SURF)/Topside interface management / interface meetings, design review process, use of interim design reviews, the decision scoring matrix, the go/no go risk assessments, pre-commissioning, commissioning, performance test. The benefits and drawbacks of the different electrical topologies investigated will be reported, specifically the retention of an isolated neutral system. The paper will provide the final chosen protection topology and the results of the individual component testing. A key observation to report being that when technology is new, the need to validate the implementation of it must be included in the initial design. There must be added monitoring even if it’s not thought to be essential at start of a project, even if it’s considered as "sugar coating" a design or adding complexity, there can be huge benefits on new technology deployment. The paper will report on the observed benefits of site integration testing versus individual routine / factory acceptance testing when deploying TRL7 items in novel topologies. The final commissioning results will be reported and an engineer’s view of a journey from concept to final commissioning will be presented. Existing literature is limited on electrical topology on subsea infrastructures and thus this paper enhances the industry knowledge base. The paper describes a novel topside protection system for subsea ground isolated loads. As the subsea industry turns towards electrification, it is essential that lessons are learned. This ensures novel solutions can be deployed provided a correct design verification process. The paper could trigger discussions around a new best practice recommendation about the interface topsides/subsea electrical infrastructures.

In ASME 2010 29th International Conference on Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering. ASMEDC, 2010. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/omae2010-20103.

Abstract:
We have developed a way of harvesting electrical energy from the ocean power, e.g. tide, current, wave, breaking wave and vortex, using a flexible piezoelectric device consisting of piezo-electric polymer film (PVDF), silicon and natural rubber. The flexible piezoelectric device (FPED) is a hydro-electric ocean energy converter designed to convert renewable energy harnessed from ocean energy into usable electricity. The basic concept generating electric power using FPED is to utilize fluid structure interaction, e.g. flattering, flapping and periodic bending, caused by ocean energy. The FPED deformed by kinetic energy of the ocean power stores elastic energy and also converts it to the electric energy. We carried out some experiments using wave tank and the water tunnel with a bluff body. We have confirmed the electricity generated by wave, current and vortex using the FPED. The developed FPED could be a new technology of harvesting electrical energy from the ocean power. A floating platform attached FPED could be coupled with an offshore wind turbine as a hybrid energy system in ocean space.

Muelaner, Jody Emlyn. Unsettled Issues in Electrical Demand for Automotive Electrification Pathways. SAE International, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.4271/epr2021004.

Full text
Abstract:
With the current state of automotive electrification, predicting which electrification pathway is likely to be the most economical over a 10- to 30-year outlook is wrought with uncertainty. The development of a range of technologies should continue, including statically charged battery electric vehicles (BEVs), fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and EVs designed for a combination of plug-in and electric road system (ERS) supply. The most significant uncertainties are for the costs related to hydrogen supply, electrical supply, and battery life. This greatly is dependent on electrolyzers, fuel-cell costs, life spans and efficiencies, distribution and storage, and the price of renewable electricity. Green hydrogen will also be required as an industrial feedstock for difficult-to-decarbonize areas such as aviation and steel production, and for seasonal energy buffering in the grid. For ERSs, it is critical to understand how battery life will be affected by frequent cycling and the extent to which battery technology from hybrid vehicles can be applied. Unsettled Issues in Electrical Demand for Automotive Electrification Pathways dives into the most critical issues the mobility industry is facing.

Abstract:
Recent technology advances have led to the development of ILI tools that monitor and record CP current through electric potential longitudinal gradient measurements at the inner pipe wall. This technique represents a potential improvement to the existing standard electrical survey methods by providing more accurate data and a safer method for acquiring data. The capabilities and limitations of this developing ILI technology have not been fully defined for application in the industry due to limited experience running the tool by pipeline companies. Through collective participation by PRCI member companies that have experience with the technology, a comprehensive analysis could be performed to clarify its capabilities and limitations so that the technology can be appropriately applied.

Abstract:
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Electrical vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) vehicles for urban air mobility (UAM) are garnering increased attention from both the automotive and aerospace industries, with use cases ranging from individual transportation, public service, cargo delivery, and more. Distributed electric propulsion systems are their main technical feature; they determine vehicle size and propulsion efficiency and provide distributed thrust to achieve attitude control. Considering the intended role of eVTOL vehicles, ducted-fan systems are ideal choice for the propulsor, as the duct provides a physical barrier between the rotating blades and the human, especially during the take-off and landing phases.</div><div class="htmlview paragraph"><b>Key Technology Challenges of Electric Ducted Fan Propulsion Systems for eVTOL</b> introduces the main bottlenecks and key enablers of ducted-fan propulsion systems for eVTOL applications. Based on the introduction and discussion of these important issues, this report will help eVTOL engineers understand the key technical issues and inspire them to develop the ideal solutions that will enable eVTOL vehicle deployment for UAM operations.</div><div class="htmlview paragraph"><a href="https://www.sae.org/publications/edge-research-reports" target="_blank">Click here to access the full SAE EDGE</a>TM<a href="https://www.sae.org/publications/edge-research-reports" target="_blank"> Research Report portfolio.</a></div></div>
