Abstract:
This study examined the effects of needle-free electroacupuncture, at ST36 on postoperative pain following hysterectomy. Based on a double-blind, sham, and different intervention controlled clinical experimental design, 47 women were randomly allocated to four different groups. Except for those in the control group (Group 1,n=13), a course of treatment was given of either sham (Group 2,n=12), high-frequency stimulation (Group 3,n=12), or low-frequency stimulation (Group 4,n=10). All groups were assessed during the postoperative period for 24 hours. The Visual Analogue Scale was used to determi

Background Acupuncture has potential value in producing analgesia in the postoperative period, but previous trials have inconsistent results. We aimed to study the effect of electroacupuncture on pain and nausea and the requirement for postoperative analgesia via patient-controlled analgesia. Method 107 patients who were undergoing abdominal hysterectomy or laparascopic cholecystectomy were randomised to receive either electroacupuncture (n = 56) or no additional treatment (n = 46) during the operative period. We measured the use of patient-controlled analgesia and time in recovery as well as

The severity of postoperative pain is affected by many factors including the patient’s age, sex, personality, knowledge of and confidence in the procedure, attitude of the staff, and the individual's physiological condition. The same procedure can produce different degrees of postoperative pain in different patients. Even though, in most cases, upper abdominal or thoracic surgery causes severe postoperative pain, superficial operations still cause mild postoperative pain. Abstract:
Over 500,000 hysterectomies are performed yearly in the United States, and they often result in a moderate to severe amount of pain. Nurses play a significant role in postoperative pain management. However, studies have shown that despite technological advances and nurses' theoretical knowledge of pain, postoperative pain management remains a challenge among healthcare providers. The purpose of this study was to examine how nurses' and patients' attitude towards abdominal hysterectomy can impact postoperative pain management and hospital length of stay after a hysterectomy. Gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN) are rare tumours that constitute less than 1% of all gynecological malignancies. Invasive mole is a distinct subgroup of GTN, which follows approximately 10-15% of complete hydatiform moles. This is a case of invasive mole presenting as uterine perforation and massive haemoperitonium. The 35 year old parous woman presented with severe pallor, acute abdominal pain and hemoperitonium. She gave history of evacuation of a molar pregnancy four month back. Her serum B-HCG was elevated (80,000 IU/ml). Laprotomy revealed perforation through the uterine fundus

Introduction: Ovarian fibrothecomas represent an ovarian stromal neoplasm developing in a wide spectrum of clinical settings. These tumors have been described as rare ovarian neoplasm, accounting for about 4% of all ovarian tumors. We report a case whose clinical presentation was highly deceptive and was clinically and radiologically diagnosed as malignant ovarian tumor. Ascitic fluid cytology revealed absence of malignant cells. On histopathological examination, it was diagnosed as benign fibrothecoma with cystic changes. Postoperative follow-up for about six months was uneventful. Case: A 45
