Abstract:
The interaction of an oxidized form of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, NAD+, with a polycrystalline gold electrode surface was investigated using a range of electrochemical and spectroscopic techniques. It was shown that the reduction of NAD+ on gold is irreversible and occurs at cathodic overpotentials larger than -0.2 V. The NAD+ reduction reaction was found to be mass-transport controlled, and of first order with respect to NAD+. A set of kinetic parameters was calculated and verified independently using various experimental techniques: the apparent transfer and diffusion coefficients, t

In heterogeneous catalysis, promoting the activity of the catalytic metals is long known as an important method to make a process more efficient and viable. Noble metals have been promoted classically by a chemical coverage of an ionic solution on the surface of the catalyst or using inert support, e.g., silica or alumina, allowing an increase of the dispersion of the catalyst. Therefore, new methods of promotion needed to be better explored to improve the efficiency of metal and metal oxide catalysts. One way of enhancing the catalyst’s activity is to disperse the noble metal at the nanoscale

Abstract:

Methods of slab-geometry molecular dynamics computer simulation were tested, compared, and applied to the prediction of activity coefficients, interfacial electrochemistry characterization, and ion transport through a model biological channel-membrane structure. The charged-sheets, 2-D Ewald, corrected 3-D Ewald, and corrected particle-particle-particle-mesh (P3M) methods were compared for efficiency and applicability to slab-geometry electrolyte systems with discrete water molecules. The P3M method was preferred for long-range force calculation in the problems of interest and was used through

Abstract:
In this study the unique Magotteaux Mill® system was used to control the grinding chemical conditions, which may be adjusted by varying grinding media, purging gas and pH, during grinding. An electrochemical apparatus was used to investigate oxidation-reduction behaviour of grinding media and sulphide mineral electrodes, as well as their galvanic interaction in-situ of the Magotteaux Mill®. Galvanic interaction between the grinding media (mild steel, 15% chromium, 21% chromium and 30% chromium media) and the sulphide minerals (bornite, arsenopyrite and pyrite) was initially quantified in-situ

The oxidation potentials of porphyrin and p-phenylenediamine were obtained by cyclic voltammetry (CV). The oxidation potential and wave changed by titration between porphyrin and p-phenylenediamine. The spectral change was investigated by using optically transparent thin-layer electrode (OTTLE). The interaction between different oxidation states of porphyrins and p-phenylenediamine are discussed. When the PD is oxidized, it interacts with

<p>Solids undergo phase transformations where the crystal structure changes with temperature, chemical potential, stress, applied electric fields, or other external parameters. These occur by either long-range diffusion of atoms (diffusional phase transformation) or by some form of cooperative, homogeneous movement of many atoms that results in changes in crystal structure (displacive phase transformation). In the latter case, these movements are usually less than the interatomic distances, and the atoms maintain their coordination. The most common example of displacive phase transformations i
