Torsional guided wave inspection is widely used for pipeline inspection. Piezoelectric and magnetostrictive transducers are most commonly used to generate torsional guided waves. These types of transducers require bonding or mechanical contact to the pipe which can result in changes over time which are undesirable for structural health monitoring. Abstract:
This research proposed an electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT) for generating and receiving orthogonal directional shear horizontal (ODSH) guided waves in the metal plate-like structure. The proposed EMAT generates the fundamental mode of SH wave in the horizontal and vertical direction in the plane of the test sample. The ODSHEMAT combines a new Chevron-like coil design which generates an eddy current effect in the skin depth of the plate surface, and a periodic permanent magnet that applies a static magnetic field vertically with a periodicity equal to its wavelength. The direction of

In this paper, a new electromagnetic acoustic resonance (EMAR) transducer is proposed for precise thickness measurement in specimen. The new EMAR is composed of a mirror symmetric coil (MSC) and a pair of Nd-Fe-B permanent magnets with the different polarity for enhancing the generation and detection of resonant signals. Firstly, a finite element model was established to simulate the distributions of Lorentz force produced by new EMAR and the resonant process of shear waves. Furthermore, the relationship between the frequency response characteristic of the new EMAR and the common EMAR were exp

Abstract As a carrier for information and energy, acoustic waves have been applied in underwater communication widely, however, the narrow band and low transmission speed are the main problems. Whether in the field of optics or electromagnetic waves, the orbital angular momentum (OAM) represents the natural properties of the spiral phase structure. By introducing the OAM into the acoustics field, the transmission capacity and spectrum efficiency of the underwater acoustic communication system can be expanded. Based on the analysis and detection of the vortex acoustic wave generated by the circ
