Sonawane, Jayesh Murlidhar. "Relay network under broadband jamming." Thesis, Wichita State University, 2010. http://hdl.handle.net/10057/3747.

Full text
Abstract:
In this thesis, the bit error rate (BER) performance of a relay network using binary phase shift keying (BPSK) and quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) modulation was compared under broadband jamming with a normalized maximum ratio combining (MRC) scheme at various jamming locations. Results show that, among various jamming locations in the relay network, jamming at the destination has more negative effects on BER than jamming at the relay. Other observations show that increasing the jamming power will cause loss in the diversity order of the relay network.
Thesis (M.S.)--Wichita State Univ

Abstract:
This work describes the evolution cf electronic warfare equipment and techniques in the USA, from the first instance of radio jamming in that country in 1901 until the end of World War II in 1945. It begins with a review of early work on telegraph, radio and radar systems throughout the world, and countermeasures used during trials or in combat prior to World War II. Immediately after the USA ertered the conflict in 1941, the Radio Research Laboratory was set up near Boston to develop radio countermeasures equipment for the US armed forces. Abstract:
Using a research through design approach, this thesis presents a first prototype of Plot Twister, a novel interactive, audiovisual interface specifically designed for solo musicians improvising alongside computers. This highly simplified and intuitive interface allows the performer to simultaneously manipulate visual and musical content using one single controller, thus enabling the other hand to play an instrument. The design is based on the concept of adaptive music used in video games, where progression of musical form and expression over time is produced through movement in virtual 3D-spac

In this report metrics for jamming resistance and radar performance of waveform sets are described and developed, and different sets of waveforms are optimized, evaluated and compared. It is shown that without additional processing or PRI jitter, waveform sets can reach jamming resistance a few dB worse than what is provided by PRI jitter alone, and together with PRI jitter a few dB better. Waveforms with better jamming resistance tend to have worse range sidelobes and Doppler tolerance, but show less structure in their spectrograms, suggesting better LPI properties. Abstract:
Cross-Eye (CE) jamming is a technique aimed at inducing false target angles in radar measurements. The potential to deceive monopulse radar, a radar type commonly used due to its angular accuracy and resilience against jamming, has captured the interest of Electronic Warfare (EW) system manufacturers. CE jamming may increase the capability of self-defense against radar guided missiles. In this thesis, a CE jammer, based on the retrodirective channel design, for use in an EW systems is modeled and analyzed. The usage of drones is steadily increasing as drones are becoming more available and useful to the general public, but drone usage also leads to problems as for example airports have had to shutdown due to drone sightings. It has become clear that a counter-drone system must be in place to neutralize intruding drones. However, neutralizing a drone is not an easy task, the risk of causing collateral damage and interfering with other radio systems must be highly considered when designing a counter-drone system. In this thesis a set of consumer drones was selected based on market popularity. By s

Abstract:
Jamming is an ongoing threat that plagues wireless communications in contested areas. Unfortunately, jamming complexity and sophistication will continue to increase over time. The traditional approach to addressing the jamming threat is to harden radios, such that they sacrifice communications performance for more advanced jamming protection. To provide an escape from this trend, we investigate the previously unexplored area of jammer exploitation. Anti-sensor network (ASN) aims to destroy application reliability by adaptively and anonymously introducing adequate level of artificial distortion into the communication of the event features transported from the sensor nodes (SN) to the sink. ASN is composed of anti-sensor nodes (aSN) randomly distributed over the sensor network field. aSNs pretend to be SNs tomaintain anonymity and so improve resiliency against attack detection and prevention mechanisms.
An SNR estimation approach and a jamming detector based on wavelet transform theory are presented. The SNR estimator is an in-service, non-data aided estimator that operates on M-PSK and QAM modulated signals transmitted over baseband CWGN channels. The first method uses hard thresholding which extracts the amplitude trend over one or several symbol periods, depending on whether the modulation is constant or multi-level envelope.

Localization of nodes is an important aspect in a vehicular ad-hoc network (VANET). Research has been done on various localization methods. Some are more apt for a specific purpose than others. The distance bounding and verifiable trilateration methods are explained further with their corresponding algorithms and steps used for localization. Abstract:
Cross-eye jamming is an Electronic Attack (EA) technique that induces an angular error in the radar being jammed. The main benefit of cross-eye jamming is that it is effective against monopulse tracking radars, which are largely immune to other forms of jamming. The objective of this research is to gain a complete understanding of cross-eye jamming so that systems that might be developed in future can be properly specied.
