Full textElements (static converters, machine, load,. . . ), closely interacting. This work attempts to study such interactions considering harmonic disturbanc,es, and to determine, or build the best compUtation tools for analysis and further 'optimisation of the systems. The common solution consists inusing heavy simulation programs and spectra computation algorithms. But it is too time and memory consuming; it does not help much in understanding the phenomena, and the validity of the. Results is questionable. That is why simplified models and optimised procedures must be looked for, to analyse the phenomena. Such anapproach implies the system to be civided in elements, using functionnal or physical criteria. Then the interactions to study must be defined, and consequently a model chosen for each of the elelements and,its environment. Finaly, the best calculation tool must be chosen. An harnonic analysis method, able to take into account mutual interactions between source, converter and machine is proposed. It provises a gread precision. It the case under study, it has been shown that the interactjons are not significant and that the global model can be simplified. The method is also applied to an example of electromagnetic compatibility. In this case, time and memory consumption are significantly reduced. The optimisation problem has not been faced yet, but this work presents a first step towards a generalised scheme for complex systems analysis, in a minimised computation volume.

Full textThe High Température Superconductors discovery in 1986, and their improvement now allow to use their in Electrical devices. It is important to know their electromagnetic behaviour and especially their A. C losses. In this aim a numerical model (based on finite éléments) was developed in FLUX3D. In this model, superconductors are supposed to be perfectly non magnetic and the electrical field versus current density is a power law. For the moment, this law is independent of magnetic induction. Différent formulations (A, [delta]A/[delta]t, T[phi], TTo[phi]) have been studied and compared, in order to impose an exteraal field, a transport current or to include a superconductor in a circuit. The numerical model has then been used to produce quantitative and qualitative results. Numerical, analytical and expérimental studies hâve been performed on a Bi-2223 OPIT strand in self field condition. It allowed to validate the classical hypothesis of perfect coupling between filaments, and has been a means to better understand the electrical measurement method. A two layers coil has then been studied and an analytical model for n layers coils was proposed. The studies presented in this report have also permitted to discuss the Bean model validity. Limitations of a power law with a critical current independent of magnetic induction and température hâve appeared too

Full textPower systems are undergoing profound changes due to the deregulation of the power industry. One of the consequences of this deregulation is the emergence of dispersed generation in distribution networks. The introduction of this generation within the existing distribution networks cao have important effects that should he carefully assessed. This thesis deals with the identification and assessment of these impacts on distribution networks (voltage, short-circuit currents, stability, critical clearing time. . . ). These impacts are highlighted by using dynamic simulations and by using small signaIs theory tools (eigenvalues and participation factors). Furthennore, several optimisation algorithms are used in order to insert this dispersed generation in the existing distribution networks in an optimum way (security, enhanced performances. . . ). Optimisation algorithms (algorithm of Minimax, genetics, simplex and simulated annealing) are also implemented to irnprove the voltage profile of distribution networks with dispersed generation. In addition, sorne of these algorithms are used to coordinate the gains contained in the controllers of the dispersed generations in order to improve the stability of the networks. Influence indices are also defined in arder to identify the influence areas ofthe dispersed generation on the distribution networks

Full textDielectric polymers have seen their importance grow in the field of electroactive materials because of their undeniable advantages, particularly for potential applications such as energy harvesting, actuation or sensors. The work done in this thesis is exploratory and aims primarily to provide on one hand a new piezoelectric-polymer hybrid approach for the development of energy harvesting systems and secondly to develop operating methods shape control of structures using electroactive polymers. The use of dielectric polymers in energy harvesting devices reconciles a high energy density with low rigidity and simplicity of integration. The main problem which is characteristic of such devices is that they necessarily require the use of an external bias high voltage supply (> 1kV) to achieve significant energy densities. The hybrid approach proposed in the context of this work eliminates this source of external energy by using a piezoelectric device capable of generating, under the action of a mechanical stress, the electric field required to operate the device. The problem of optimization of energy transfer between any two systems was also studied. The work was then directed towards the investigation of the feasibility of the piezo-polymer hybrid approach. Various configurations have been proposed and evaluated in order to deduce their optimal parameters. The performance of hybrid devices was experimentally evaluated and compared with that obtained with simple piezoelectric or electrostatic (using polymers) systems. The second part of this work focuses on the use of electroactive materials as actuators for shape control of thin structures. The final application aimed here is the development of an active skin type material allowing reconfiguration of orbiting satellite antennas. Different types of polymers were first tested and their performance has been compared with the theoretical models developed specifically in this context. Original structures have been proposed to solve some problems related to the actuation using dielectric polymers. Simple prototypes have validated the principle of the structural shape control. If their use brings undeniable advantages over conventional operating techniques, the fact remains that certain specific characteristics of electroactive polymers limit their performance. For example, the square law characteristic of the electroactive polymer control requires the use of particular geometries in order to obtain a symmetrical two-way displacement. This fact complicates the control of such actuators but allows in the end to add new features. Thus the use of a sectored network of polymer actuator is required to obtain a symmetrical movement on a single type of structure blocked blocked-beam, but allows to consider different deformation profiles. Other similar problems have been addressed using different original structures

Full textWith the endangering of the environment due to the use of fossil fuels, the power electronics market is growing through the years. The number of applications is increasing in numerous field as, for example, transport (electric car, "more electric" aircraft) or energy (photovoltaic, smart grid). Beyond meeting the volume, efficiency and reliability specifications for each application, power electronics should also reduce substantially costs. Today, the managing of the electric energy uses power electronic converters. The conception of a converter is a multiphysic problem. The converter has to ensure electrical functionality, mechanical support and proper thermal management. The new wide-band gap components are limited in performance by their package. The integration of a converter should use new interconnection methods to avoid the use of packaged components. The trend is to integrate the maximum of components into a single system. This integration can offer benefits such as size and weight reduction, cost saving and reliability improvement by managing the complexity and the high density of interconnection. Among many integration technologies available, Printed Circuit Board (PCB) is well known in the industry, allowing mass production with automated manufacturing and assembly. The PCB integration was developed with the “Die Embedding” technology in which a bare die in embedded directly in the PCB to not use package. This thesis studied the embedding technology on others components necessary to the realization of a converter (Capacitors, Magnetics, …). An optimization of the converter is done taking into account the advantages of this new technology. A prototype of an AC/DC bidirectional converter fully integrated using this technology was realized

Full textIn the context of the predetermination of switching losses and EMC (ElectroMagnetic. Compatibllity) performances of static converters during their technological design in Power Electronics, this thesis deals with accurate modelling of the switching cell MOSFET-PIN Diode. In this study three aspects having significant influences on the wave forms of commutations as weIl of the power part as that of command are treated : i) the interconnections and the parasitic elements related to the geometrical implementation and the choice ofthe technology ofrealisation of static inverter. Ii) the dynamics of charges in the central zone of bipolar semiconductors devices (here a pin diode) which is of distributed nature. Iii) the non-linear stray capacitances of MOSFET particularly the input and Miller capacitance being dominant during commutation. The model of switching cell is validated by comparing the simulations and measurements on the prototype built for this purpose. It was shown that the domain of validity of the model is much broader compared to the existing models : the model is relatively robust against the changes of the conditions of the circuit surrounding the semiconductor components and the variations of operating point. The purpose of applications presented in the last chapter is to show at first the importance of the parasitic environment of the semiconductors in precise modelling of static converters and then the possibility of making compatible the switching cell model to the more complex cases (several switches in parallel). Related prototypes are realised for each application and measurement results are discussed

Full textMobile and multimedia devices offer more innovations and enhancements to satisfy user requirements. Chip manufacturers thus propose high performances SoC to address these needs. Unfortunately the growth in digital resources inevitably increases the power consumption while battery life-time does not rise as fast. Aggressive power management techniques such as dynamic voltage and frequency scaling have been introduced in order to keep competitive and relevant solutions. Nonetheless continuing in this direction involves more disruptive solutions to meet space and cost constraints. Fully integrated power supply is a promising solution. Switched-capacitor DC-DC converters seem to be a suitable candidate to keep compatibility with the manufacturing process of digital SoCs. This thesis focuses on the design of an embedded power supply architecture using switched-capacitor DC-DC converters.Addressing a large range of output power with significant efficiency leads to consider a multi-ratio power stage. With respect to the typical digital SoC, the input voltage is 1.8 V and the converter is specified to deliver an output voltage in the 0.3-1.2 V range. The reference voltage is varying according to typical DVFS requirements. A modular architecture accommodates the digital design flow where the flying capacitors are situated above the digital block to supply and the power switches are located as an external ring. Such an architecture offers high flexibility. Interleaving strategy is considered to mitigate the output voltage ripple. Such a converter admits the switching frequency as a control variable and linear regulation and hysteretic control are analyzed. A prototype has been fabricated in 28nm FDSOI technology by STMicroelectronics. A power density of 310 mW/mm2 is achieved at 72.5% peak efficiency with a silicon area penalty of 11.5% of the digital block area. The successful design methodology has been also applied to the design of a negative SC converter for body-biasing purpose in FDSOI. Simulation results demonstrate a strong interest for low power application
