Cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) such as pacemakers (PMs), implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), both with or without cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT), became one of the fundamental therapies in present-day electrocardiology. The CIED patients population is increasing year by year due to a growing number of CIED implantations annually and a life prolongation among patients with CIEDs through better pharmacology combined with the proper electrotherapy and patient care. Invasive procedures related to CIED such as an implantation, a replacement or an up-grade of any

An electrode is a fundamental element used in many electrotherapy devices. This work presents a novel dry electrode made from carbon and silicone rubber materials for wearable electrotherapy applications. The electrode was mixed using a speed mixer and fabricated using stencil printing. This paper investigates the resistivity change of the electrode under the pressure from 0 mmHg to 32.4 mmHg; and the skin–electrode impendence with the current frequency from 20 Hz to 10,000 Hz. The resistivity of the novel dry electrode is 24.6 ± 1.5 Ω∙m when the pressure on electrode is 17.7 mmHg. The skin–el

We currently have a wide range of different imaging tests that are constantly improving and developing. Each test has its sensitivity and specificity and is used in various fields of medicine. Knowledge of the possibilities of using imaging tests in electrotherapy is an important element of the diagnostic and therapeutic process. This article presents selected issues regarding the use of imaging methods in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices.

Wound healing is the sum of physiological sequential steps, leading to skin restoration. However, in some conditions, such as diabetes, pressure ulcers (PU) and venous legs ulcers (VLU), healing is a major challenge and requires multiple strategies. In this context, some electromedical devices may accelerate and/or support wound healing, modulating the inflammatory, proliferation (granulation) and tissue-remodelling phases. This review describes some helpful electromedical devices including: ultrasonic-assisted wound debridement; electrotherapy; combined ultrasound and electric field stimulati

Each year, 1.2-1.4 million devices such as pacemakers, cardioverter-defibrillators and devices with the resynchronization function are implanted, and for some time also electrodes for stimulating the His bundle or the left bundle branch. One of the most serious complications of electrotherapy is infections of implantable systems (CIED infection). Knowing the risk factors give the option to choose other therapies and reduce the risk of infection. Important patient-related factors include: diabetes, heart and/or kidney failure or dysfunction, COPD, the presence of neoplastic disease and use of a
