Abstract:
A study was carried out to define the best conditions for the simultaneous electroxidation of cyanides and recovery of copper as a metallic deposition on the cathode from weak concentration rinse wastewaters, using plate stainless steel electrodes. A direct electroxidation process and an indirect electroxidation in a chloriderich medium were tested at pH from 10 to 13. The results show that the process of the direct electroxidation is feasible and economically convenient if conducted at pH 13. It was possible to reduce copper concentration from 470 mg−1 by 79% in 1.5 h, at an energy consumptio

The electrocoagulation tests were carried out considering both relatively high metal contents (in the range of ppm) and very low metal concentrations (in the range of ppb). The experiments with very low metal concentrations were carried out in the framework of a collaboration project with the metropolitan water agency of Turin (SMAT). The scope of the work was to investigate the performance of the electrocoagulation process, in order to produce drinking water, using aluminum electrodes to remove nickel and chromium from two different water-well samples. Herein, a facial and low-cost approach was reported for the synthesis of gold@iron oxide core-shell nanoparticles. By using the citrate-stabilized gold nanoparticles as seeds, the gold@iron oxide nanoparticles were prepared via an electroxidation of iron nail at 1.0 V between the electrodes in aqueous solution. Carbon supported PtNi nanoparticles were prepared by hydrazine reduction of Pt and Ni precursor salts under different conditions, namely by conventional heating (PtNi-1), by prolonged reaction at room temperature (PtNi-2) and by microwave assisted reduction (PtNi-3). The nanocomposites were characterized by XRD, EDX, XPS and TEM and used as electrocatalysts in direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) reactions. Investigations into the mechanism of PtNi nanoparticle formation revealed that platinum nanoparticle seeding was essential for the formation of the bimetallic nanoparticles. The average particl
