Full textDuring recent years IR cameras have been seen more and more frequently used in commercial contexts. This is an effect of the price of the IR detectors which has been descending making the systems in all less expensive. IR cameras designed for thermography are in many aspects similar to digital cameras for and many of the functions found in theses IR-cameras comes from the camera industry. Since the handheld systems that are used as thermographs generates images with higher and higher resolution, the effects of undesired vibrations, such as hand shakings, are becoming noticeable in the results. This is especially observable for cameras equipped with lenses of a small field of view. Different methods for optical image stabilization are commonly appearing in the camera industry. The solutions are often based on a planar movement of an element within the lens, or the whole image sensor itself. Principally this would also be possible to implement on an IR camera. Another possible solution could be attained by using a planar lens element of significant thickness to get a parallel displacement of the light when the element is tilted. This element would preferably be placed between the lens and the image sensor of the camera. No cameras using this technique have been found on the market. Since glass is not transparent in the IR part of the spectrum lenses made of Germanium are used in thermograph systems. The high indices of refraction of Germanium make it very suitable for the above mentioned application. The prototype that this master thesis has resulted in shows that a planar Germanium lens which can be tilted by two DC motors based on the information from two angular rate sensors can reduce the effects of involuntary vibrations of an IR camera.

Full textThis report describes the product development of and electro-mechanic fail-safe brake used for static hold and emergency situations. The developed concept is suitable for smaller electric motors, a field where room for improvement has been identified. The development of the concept is limited from an economic analysis and real life tests.In order to acquire new knowledge and understanding of existing solutions a literature study has been made on “Fail-safe brakes”, brakes that uses stored mechanical energy to generate a braking torque. The information gathered in this process is used as a basis for the concept generation and will also work as reference when evaluating the final concept developed. The client Per Lindholm from the company ABB has given a specification for the concept being developed. It’s specified that the brake needs to be able to be used for static hold and emergency braking in a given situation during maximum load and the goal is to simplify today’s designs and minimize the weight of the brake. During the concept development process, major efforts has been put in to analyse, use and evaluate the structured model for product development created by Karl T. Ullrich and Steven D. Eppinger.After evaluation of a number of different generated concepts using Pugh’s matrix, the concept with a double-sided disc brake is chosen for further development. Basic calculations are made to ensure that the requirements can be reached with regards to torque created. Next the development of sub-systems is carried out. The systems focused on are the spring, electromagnet, brake disc and pads. For the development of the sub-systems, a mathematical model has been set up based on the initial specifications and requirements. These are not supported with real life measurements.The resulting brake concept can generate a braking torque of 0.4116 Nm, enough to meet the criteria. The main functionality and design has been visualized as a CAD-model with Solid Edge. The conclusion drawn is that the concept is a good basis for a functional product that is simpler and lighter than today´s alternative solutions and the goal of the work is considered to be fulfilled.By properly and independently preforming the product development has resulted in a better understanding and knowledge of the process which has been very rewarding, such as the aspect of working in a team.

Full textPrecer Group has a patented technology for combustion of solid fuels such as pellets or metal fuels. The technology is applicable in vehicles and now Precers vision is to build a new type of environmentally friendly and fuel efficient vehicle powered by solid fuels. It will be a light weight vehicle with a series hybrid power train. The power train will be composed of Precers combustion unit, a heat engine, generator, battery, motor controller and one or more electrical motors with power electronics. We have made a study on what types of electrical motors can be used for propelling a vehicle and made a comparison of different solutions for motors and motor controllers that can be used in Precer Groups vehicle. We have also made an evaluation whether regenerative braking would be useful in the vehicle and in what ways this technology can be implemented. The most suitable generator for the heat engine is a brushless DC-generator because it has high peak efficiency and suitable characteristics for the engine. The traction motor we find most suitable for a light weight hybrid vehicle is a switched reluctance motor which has good acceleration capability and performs well at a wide speed and torque range. Regenerative braking will probably be useful in Precers vehicle since it regenerates some of the energy used when braking. This technique is best suited for electrical vehicles in urban areas and other areas where there is a high frequency of acceleration and braking.

Full textEn ny innovation har utvecklats av CorPower Ocean; en mekanisk rack och pinjonglösning kallad kaskadväxel. Dess primära funktion är att transformera en linjär rörelse till en roterande rörelse och vice versa. Nyhetsvärdet är växellådans unika prestanda; den kan hantera kombinationen av höga laster och höga hastigheter till en hög verkningsgrad. Nu önskar CorPower Ocean att hitta applikationer där kaskadväxelns unika prestanda kommer till användning. Om kaskadväxeln kombineras med en motor bildas en elektromekanisk aktuator, och därför har en utredning av applikationer som använder aktuatorer utsetts som en marknad att undersöka närmare. Mer specifikt var examensuppdraget att undersöka i vilka applikationer en sådan övergång skulle vara genomförbar ur ett tekniskt perspektiv. Forskningsfrågor som önskades besvaras var huruvida en sådan övergång är genomförbar ur ett tekniskt perspektiv och om en sådan implementation innebär förbättringar vad gäller miljörelaterade mål. Metodologin som användes för att slutföra projektet utgjordes av flera steg. Första steget var att genomföra en bakgrundsstudie om elektrifiering och produkttrender samt samla teknisk data på utsedda applikationer. De utsedda övergångsområdena var maskiner för tunga lyft samt plastformssprutningsmaskiner. Med CorPowers mjukvara kunde dimensioneringsexempel göras för kaskadväxellådor och utvärderas utifrån sin storlek och vikt. För en fortsatt utvärdering av applikationer genomfördes intervjuer med tillverkare av de utsedda applikationerna. Val av applikationer slutfördes genom att utvärdera svar från målkunder samt dimensioneringsexempel av växellådorna. De valda applikationerna blev slutligen en nio tons gaffeltruck och en tomcontainertruck. Valet baserades huvudsakligen på bra respons från kunder, bra integrationsmöjligheter samt potentiella prestandaförbättringar. Fokus låg på att byta ut lyftcylindrarna och bortse från övriga mindre cylindrar. Lösningarna optimerades för att matcha kundkrav så som kostnad och passform. Ett energibesparingscase utfördes för att jämföra kaskadlösningen med nuvarande hydrauliska lösning. I tomcontainertruckens fall sänktes energiförbrukningen med 54 % och produktiviteten ökade med 9.6%. I gaffeltruckens fall sjönk energiförbrukningen med 52 % och produktiviteten ökade med 1 %. Båda applikationerna uppvisade stor potential för ett byte från hydraulcylindrar till elektromekaniska cylindrar. De slutgiltiga koncepten överträffade hydraulikens prestanda medan de bibehöll en acceptabel storlek. Full textPneumatiska vakuumsystem används idag inom automatiserade industrier. Innan ett automatiserat system är tillåtet att lyfta ett objekt måste kontrollsystemet få en OK signal som informerar om att den önskade vakuumnivån är uppnåd i gripdonet. Enheten som skickar OK signalen kallas en vakuumvakt. För att hålla nere på systemets energikonsumtion ska vakuumvakten även skicka en signal till energisparsystemet. Arbetet är utfört på Piab AB i Täby i Sverige. Syftet med det här examensarbetet var att dimensionera och konstruera en ny elektromekanisk vakuumvakt som kan skicka en signal från två olika vakuumnivåer. Dessa två vakuumnivåer ska vara justerbara men också beroende av varandra för att göra vakuumvakten mer pålitlig. Arbetet resulterade i en elektromekanisk vakuumvakt med två justerbara och beroende av varandra vakuumnivåer. Vakten uppfyllde 13 av 15 testade krav. En av de krav den inte klarade av att uppfylla var höjdbegränsningen, det andra kravet missade vakten marginellt och det var ett prestandakrav. Alla krav kunde inte verifieras, en fullständig verifikation av de specifierade kraven bör göras med en senare prototyp. Mer arbete behöver läggas ner på vakten innan den uppfyller alla krav och fungerar som önskat, men syftet med arbetet kan fortfarande anses vara uppfyllt eftersom alla grundläggande funktioner fungerar som det är tänkt.

Full textA problem that has been noticed in the electricity grid is the increase in level of harmonics. In some cases, there may also be currents or voltages with frequencies that differ from the fundamental tone and this leads to the grid having harmonics meaning that when loads and components in the electricity grid are not sinusoidal, harmonics occur. For example, an increase in these types of loads e.g. charging an electric car or computers, in the electricity grid gives rise to an increasing harmonic content. In view of the aforementioned, this thesis has been carried out in collaboration with the Megger Sweden AB, Stockholm, as the official client for this study. The purpose here is to study the effect of harmonics on the relay trip time of an electromechanical overcurrent relay that is installed in the power grid's control facilities. The tests are performed with the test instrument Sverker 900 and an electromechanical overcurrent relay, ASEA RI. For testing the RI relay, a Swedish standard, an upcoming international standard as well as instructions from the client have been thoroughly followed and applied. The results of the tests shows the difference between the trip time with harmonics and the trip time for the fundamental tone. Conclusions based on the results are partly that the overcurrent relay is slower at weak currents, that is 2.8A and 3A respectively, as well as for long trip times in relation to the behavior without harmonics. According to the findings conducted herein, there is no significant correlation between the presence of harmonics and the influence of the relay trip time on medium and strong currents, between 4A-8A, or on shorter trip times. By reason of the time constraint experienced in conducting this study, the results and findings reached leaves a sound potential and promise for future tests conducted at different harmonic levels. A future recommendation for similar studies will be to test only at low currents, long trip times and slow disk speeds as this would facilitate the possibility of fulfilling a more robust result analysis.
