Full textThere is a serious need for children to be informed about the negative influence of unhealthy living. Children need to be made aware ofhealthy eating habits, health risks andthebenefits ofexerciseto improvetheirhealth. The impact ofbadeating habits and little exercise needs to be emphasized in order for learners to see the importance of healthy living. The aim of this study is to identify relevant aspects from the related literature and practise, to establish emperically the health-related knowledge and behaviour of senior primary phase school children in the Honeydew area and to offer recommendations for health education for primary school children. This study is explorative ofnature. A academic research was done on the related literature on health and physical health education. Qualitative Data has been collected from three schools in the Honeydew area by means of a self-constructed questionnaire. These schools were selected due to the fact that the researcher teaches at one of the schools, and the other schools were easily accessible to the researcher. Several pilot studies were done to test the validity of the questionnaires. In order for the questionnaire to have been statistically reliable, 102 questionnaires were completed by learners from all three schools. From the data gathered the researcher came to the conclusion that learners in the Honeydew area have a reasonable general knowledge of health and they have a relatively healthy lifestyle. There are however reasons for concern in some areas and these need to be adressed. The high consumption ofeggs, salt, snacks and soft drinks may have a negative effect on the learners' health. The emotional well being of the child may have an influence on the child's eating habits. When children get depressed or bored, they eat simply because they do not have anything else to do and then they often eat chocolates or snacks like crisps. Every school has a tuck shop and even if a parent provided a nutritional lunch box for the child, the child may still buy chocolates and crisps at the tuck shop. Some parents give the learners money to buy lunch and then they buy sweets, instead. The use of alcohol, cigarettes and drugs is definitely bad for the leamer's health. Some learners were involved in unprotected sex, this is matter of serious concern. AIDS is a terrible disease that is increasing drastically daily. It is very important that learners need to be informed about health hazards to ensure a healthy lifestyle for all. Learners need to be informed about drug abuse, alcohol abuse, physical abuse and healthy eating habits to ensure that they can become healthy, contributary and responsible citizens in the future. There is a definite need for a health education programme in schools to ensure that the learners stay healthy and lead healthy lives in the future.

Laboratory safety-hygiene is an area of science education that needs to be attended to vigilantly. Most accidents occur because of neglect, poor judgment, or ignorance. Therefore, laboratory safety-hygiene ability to teachers in elementary school is very important . The purpose of this study was to investigate laboratory safety-hygiene knowledge and attitudes of the teachers in elementary school in middle Taiwan. To fulfill the research purpose, the results literature review about theories of laboratory safety-hygiene knowledge and attitude was adopted to form the basis of this study. A questionnaire survey was also used to collect the empirical data of this study. There were 363 teachers randomly sampled from 64 elementary schools, who responded to the two instruments, “Teacher Laboratory Safety-Hygiene Knowledge Scale”,and the “Teacher Laboratory Safety-Hygiene Attitude Scale” developed by the researcher. The statistics procedures employed for the results of the survey about the distribution of basic data were the frequency distribution, percentage, means, standard deviation, t-test, one-way ANOVA, scheffe method, pearson’s product-moment correlations, and stepwise regression. The conclusion of this research were as follows: 1.The elementary school teachers need to promote their laboratory safety-hygiene knowledge. Totally speaking, teachers do not have enough laboratory safety-hygiene knowledge. The teachers scored low on “Injuries emergency care knowledge”. For this reason, laboratory safety-hygiene education needs to be emphasized. 2.Laboratory safety-hygiene attitude of teachers should be strengthened. For the research results, laboratory safety-hygiene attitude of the teachers tended to be positive. In other words, teachers have a great sense of crisis and vigilance for laboratory safety-hygiene. 3.Significant relationships existed between laboratory safety-hygiene knowledge and attitude, and some independent variables. There were significant differences on the laboratory safety-hygiene knowledge scores of the survey among teachers with different positions and teaching subjects. Meantime, there were no significant differences on the laboratory safety-hygiene attitude scores of the survey among teachers with the varieties of different teachers’ backgrounds. 4.There was a positive relationship between the teachers’ laboratory safety-hygiene knowledge and their laboratory safety-hygiene attitude. 5.The score of laboratory safety-hygiene attitude can be explained and predicted by the scores of laboratory safety-hygiene knowledge, and the variable of age. Based on the above findings and conclusions of the research, the following suggestions are proposed to the teaching individuals, learning centers and education administrative departments as a reference: 1.Teachers themselves should actively participate the safety-hygiene activities or safety-hygiene studies held by learning centers or private sectors in order to enrich their personal safety-hygiene accomplishments and promote their safety-hygiene teaching abilities. 2.Various kinds of safety-hygiene studies should be held according to different positions and teaching subjects of different learning targets. And different learning phases should be held comprehensively, enabling every teacher to have safety-hygiene ability and teaching promotion. 3.The learning contents should match with the teaching materials of the teachers’ teaching, and be helpful to the improvement of teaching ability. They should be added with accidents reports so that teachers can deeply understand the effects of accidents towards human life. 4.Schools are suggested to form some promotion teams of safety-hygiene. Then they can realize the implementation of the schools’ promotion of safety-hygiene education.

The purpose of the study was to explore the relationship among job stress, leisure coping strategies, and health of special education teachers in elementary school. The research method was quantitative research and adopting convenience sampling. The study conducted a questionnaire survey with a response rate up to 86% (275 entries valid). The researcher used descriptive statistics, and Pearson’s product-moment correlation to analyze the data. The results were as following: 1.In Taoyuan-County elementary schools, the majority of special education teachers were female (78.5%), under 39 year-old (43.1%), majoring in special education (64.7%), and the service years between 6-10 years (40.7%). The teachers in resource classroom were more than half (55.3%), and the most often engaging leisure activity was watching mass media (43.6%). 2.Special education teachers in Taoyuan-County elementary schools perceived lower degree on “job stress” (M =2.53), and highest on “specialized-knowledge stress” (M =2.86). In leisure coping strategies, the most adopted was “leisure mood enhancement” (M =4.16). The teachers who perceive higher job stress have lower perception on their health(r =-.45). 3.The results proved the theoretical framework of the leisure, stress and health model: When people perceived high stress, the leisure which they engage could play a buffering role, and effectively maintained their health. Based on the results, the researcher suggest that the government may enhance special education teachers’ participation in maintaining positive mood leisure. The leisure can effectively cope with stress, and maintain their health. For future research, it is suggested that the researchers continue to study leisure coping beliefs.

The purpose of this study aims to explore the differences in work stress, the physical and mental health with different backgrounds, as well as to analyze the relationship between work stress and the physical and mental health of elementary school teachers in Taoyuan City. The study is conducted through questionnaire survey. The researcher compiled the “The Questionnaire for Work Stress and Well-being Health of the Elementary School Teachers in Taoyuan City” to 255 elementary school teachers with teaching certificate from 187 elementary schools at Taoyuan City in 2014 academic year. Valid questionnaires are 248 with return rate of 97.25%. The statistical procedures used in this research were t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson product-moment correlation, multiple regression and Canonical correlation. The research conclusions are as follows: 1. The elementary school teachers in Taoyuan City have a medium level of work stress and among them, "work load" is the highest one. 2. The elementary school teachers' physical and mental health is below the average. Among them, the "unwell" level of female teachers shows significant effects. 3. Despite the obvious effects on "unwell" level of female teachers, there is no significant difference in other physical and mental health of the elementary school teachers. This can be explained as those teachers regard the importance of health and emotional adjustments. 4. Work stress has positive correlation with physical and mental health for elementary school teachers, as predicted in this paper. According to the findings above, author suggests that the reduction of teachers' work stress and the improvement of their physical and mental health are needed in order to enhance the quality of teaching.
