Full textThe aim of this thesis is the study of the social representations of the teaching profession among the primary school teachers and the training teachers in morocco. To achieve this objective, we have initially presented, in the first part, the education policy in morocco at the eve of the protectorate and the from the independence to this day. We have analysed the moroccan education system based on its purposes with regard to the idiologie convictions and the values on which it is founded. We have also studied the role of the teacher and its evolution in line with the relationship existing between the teaching methods and the pupil. In order to produce an exhaustive research work, we have carried out a survey using a sample of 100 primary school teachers and 100 trainees. The elaborated questionnaire focused on both the teachers and the trainees opinion with regards to the teaching profession. Our findings have been analysed and interpreted in the second and the third part of the thesis. The empiric studic carried on two hundred informants revealed the existence of two classes of social representations which are shared by both teachers and student trainees: -a favourable representation which involves a positive point of view and the image of a "prestigious" and "appreciative" profession. -an unfavourable representation which includes a negative point of view towards a profession which is looked down on as "depreciating", "degrading", and which is practiced by "necessity"

Full textThe research aims at determining to what extent the teacher's and pupil's linguistic pratices in the classroom contribute towards the creation of a mental image of sciences teached in school. This study is based on the idea that having a mental image of any subject helps the teacher and the pupils build a consciousness of that subject which will, in turn, contribute to clearer learning. The analysis of this image tries to highlight the way in which attitudes, values, knowledge and scientific concepts are constructed by the linguistic pratices used in the classroom. Numerous studies explore the aspects of verbal communication used during scientific activities which allow the building of, knowledge scientific attitudes and approaches. The linguistic pratices participate in the social building of knowledge and attitudes, appear advantageous for the updating of a certain image of the subject. In this study, the verbal interactions during a session of sciences and debates led by pupils of three CM2 classes using very different pedagogical approaches were analysed, from the point of view of linguistic practices, in order to show how the mental image was translated into acts. Analysis of pupil's and teacher's declarations also complete these characterizations. It thus becomes possible to get an insight into the intelligibility of the image of science in class

Full textBased on questionnaires and semi-guided interviews, this thesis sets out to analyse the linguistic profile, as well as the representations of culture and identity among young literate Burkinabes. 453 student-teachers from the ENEPs of Loumbila, Fada N'gourma, Bobo-Dioulasso, Ouahigouya and Gaoua participated in this study. These literate youths (male and female) ranging from 19 to 33 years of age, with varying academic backgrounds (BEPC, 1st, 2nd, final High School Year, University level) were selected as a population sample of the country's educated youth. This dissertation presents an original overview of actual language use, psycholinguistic development as well as cultural and identity representations of those who will be responsible for imparting basic education in Burkina. On the basis of this sample, this work demonstrates how the present, future and legitimate vitality of French and of the national languages is perceived in Burkina. This dissertation also offers an analysis of these future teachers' level of commitment in enhancing basic education at primary school in the French language as well as in their mother tongues in Burkina Faso, a country in Sub-Saharan Francophone Africa

Full textThe aim of this thesis is to better understand the action, in mathematics, of elementary school teachers for pupils showing learning difficulties. These teachers work in two areas, some in an ordinary form, the others, are working in a specialized team that deals with less ability pupils. These teachers, labelled E, in France (centered on pedagogy) set up small groups occasionnaly for less performing kids only. The achived methodology tries to meet the questions and needs put for ward by this investigation. It widely uses an empirical material based on the transcript of lessons and interviews with six teachers (3 in an ordinary class, 3 in a specialized team). The comparative approach is also taken into account in this thesis. We analyse and compare the empirical material following different levels and taken concepts from the didactics of mathematics. We thus use a strategy of confrontation between theoretical models and in situ action. That methodology is at first qualitative, but it finds its originality by mixing quantitative analysis (via a questionnaire-scenario answered by 41 ordinary school teachers and 47 specialized teachers) which enables us to have an increase in generality

Full textThis thesis presents an analysis of the collaborative problem solving skills of future primary school teachers in an educational robotics context. Nowadays, our daily lives are increasingly marked by the presence of technological advances like artificial intelligence or robotics. Hence, 21st century citizens must develop or improve on new skills. On the one hand, collaborative problem solving is identified in the scientific literature as a core competency of the 21st century. On the other hand, educational robotics, which is the pedagogical integration of robotic technologies to develop skills or to achieve learning objectives, is increasingly integrated into primary schools’ curricula in Quebec and in the initial training of primary school teachers. Thus, our aim was to understand how collaborative problem solving takes place in an educational robotics activity carried out by future primary school teachers. To achieve this, we mobilized a team of four future primary school teachers. They are enrolled in the third year of the Bachelor in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. They attend a course on the pedagogical use of information and communication technologies at preschool and primary school levels. They participated in two activities: the first being an educational robotics activity and the second, a Change Laboratory. The theoretical framework of our study is made up of the theory of expansive learning and the transformative agency. The investigation framework is made up of educational robotics and the matrix of collaborative problem solving skills derived from OECD (2013) and used in Programme for International Student Assessment (2015). We carried out a qualitative research. The research methodology was based on the Change Laboratory and the crossing of a historical-cultural reading and a cognitive framework of an educational robotics activity. The analysis of the educational robotics activity using the actions of the theory of expansive learning, led to the identification of six actions: questioning, empirical and historical analysis, modeling of new practices, examination of the new model, implementation of the new model and reflection on the process. The qualitative analysis of this educational robotics activity using the matrix of collaborative problem solving made it possible to describe the various actions of expansive learning previously identified. The participants reported having encountered several difficulties related to collaborative problem solving such as balancing their involvement throughout the activity and adapting to the working methods of other team members. As far as transformative agency is concerned, resistance is the most represented type of expressions. This implies that participants were more in conflict situations. The analytical method we developed to study the division of labour enabled us to identify emerging work units and two forms of team organisations namely the voluntary organisation and the involuntary organisation. This thesis documents collaborative problem solving in an educational robotics activity and presents an innovative framework for the analysis of this skill. Keywords: collaborative problem solving, complex problem, educational robotics, assessments.

Full textAt primary school, general teachers and specialized teachers belong to separate social groups with their own social representations of the notions of pupil in care and learning disability. Their actions, that everyone wishes to be complementary, towards pupils in difficulties aim at quelling or better, at having this difficulty disappear before it gets settled down in the long run. But their practical experience, depending on their social representation, gives rise to clashes that hinder any collaboration and make the pupil fragilized. The present survey shows specialized teachers emphasize their occupational specialization and do not meet general teachers’ every expectation. They "pick and choose" the pupils they regard as their concern. The others are put aside by both teachers. It is hereby demonstrated the reduction of tensions between the teachers turn the care really efficient. It shall be important the evolution prospects take this reality into account

Full textThe general objective of this thesis is to study the forms of parental and teacher involvement in the school-family-community relationship and the impact of these forms on primary school achievement.. More specifically, it consists of three objectives, which correspond to the three articles of the thesis. The first objective, discussed in the first article, is the theoretical study of the links between the forms of parental involvement (IMPP), the socio-economic status of the family (SES), and the student's academic success. This objective is achieved through a metasynthesis based on the examination of meta-analyzes, the aim here being to identify the links that research has so far established between these three variables, parental involvement (IMPP), academic achievement and socio-economic status of the family (SES), taking into account the methodological difficulties of their study. In particular, the analysis found that different definitions of IMPP, SES, and success measurement tools contribute to differences in the outcomes of studies with respect to the impact of parental involvement on student achievement. The second objective of this thesis is to study the forms of IMPP from the SES of the family, the forms of teacher involvement (IMPE) and to identify the links with the achievements of primary school children. The reference frame is that of the bio-ecological model of Bronfenbrenner (1979) and the model of the shared influence of Epstein (2009). These two models allow the study of IMPP and IMPE from the activities of parents and teachers, the roles of parents and teachers, and interpersonal relationships. To do this, a quantitative approach was adopted. The study sample consisted of 239 students and parents, and 46 teachers. The results show that the forms of the IMPP, such as school-family communication and learning at home, are favored by the parents and at the same time that they do promote success. The study also confirms that the feeling of parental competence is an important vector in motivating parents to get involved in school and at home. Moreover, the results show that parents' education influences the success and the choice of the parents to get involved with their children more than family income. On the other hand, this study explores the forms of IMPE by asking the teachers what it actually put in place to solicit parental involvement at school and at home. For example, teachers promote family-school communication and information for home learning, which the goal of enabling parents to better help children at home. However, while the findings did not clearly reveal which forms of IMPE support success, this study helped to advance knowledge about the teachers’ role and actions in soliciting parent collaboration. The third objective aims at identifying the forms of IMPP and IMPE from the discourses of parents and teachers, and the strengths and weaknesses in the relationship between the actors. To do so, a qualitative approach was favored, using a sample of 14 primary teachers and 45 parents from 7 primary schools in the national capital, Québec. The results revealed the convergence in the forms of the IMPP and the IMPE as school-family communication and home studying. Moreover, by confronting the reasons, expectations and perceptions of the actors, the results revealed that the main reason for their motivation is the student's success. Generally, parents and teachers are sensitive to the same difficulties that surround their relationship: the distance between school and family, the lack of communication, the loss of parent's confidence in the teacher, lack of time etc. The partners recognized that the climate is generally conducive to collaboration. However, the strengths and weaknesses that emerged from the actors' discourse made it possible to nuance and better understand the tensions surrounding the relationship between parents and teachers.

Full textThis doctoral thesis focuses on what teachers in Quebec know about their students. More specifically, we insert this work in the field of research on teachers' professional knowledge and, more broadly, within the concept of the professionalization of teaching. The study of teachers' knowledge about students, which until now has been little studied or not very detailed, allows us to address the way in which today's teachers adapt and modify their practices in relation to the students in their classrooms. To do so, we study teachers' knowledge about students in three dimensions. First, we try to better understand the nature of this type of knowledge. According to Anderson and al. (2001), there are three main types of knowledge: factual knowledge, conceptual knowledge and procedural knowledge. In our theoretical framework, we detail these three types of knowledge. Next, we question the source of knowledge about students. According to several authors, notably Shulman (1987), whose work on the knowledge base for teaching was seminal, supports the idea that it is practical experience that most trains teachers. However, considering that pre-service teacher education also transmits a great deal of knowledge through the four years of the program, we try to gain a better understanding of where the student's knowledge comes from. Then, we look at how knowledge about students is mobilized in teachers » practices. Indeed, we believe that our doctoral project would not be complete without trying to better define the mobilization of this knowledge in the daily activities of the teacher with these students. Therefore, we describe the different actions of the teacher that are influenced or modulated according to the knowledge he has about his students. Based on the thematic analysis of semi-structured interview (n=25) and four focus group, we believe that we can draw a portrait of the knowledge about students. The interviewed teacher’s all have between 3 and 8 years of teaching experience and work mainly in the Greater Montreal area. They are teachers in preschool and elementary school, secondary school, physical and health education (PHE), special education and general adult education. 8 Our results show that teachers have different type of knowledge about their students, that their knowledge varies according to the subject matter and cycle of teaching, that they learn on them through experience and that they use their knowledge about students in many actions and decision every day. At the end, we will see that it is not easy to define this type of knowledge and to understand how teachers take it into account in their teaching. However, we believe that our study leads to important clarifications in the way teachers' professional knowledge is conceived, has strong implications for teacher education, and leads to a more accurate understanding of teachers work with students.
