Abstract:
Information on the Elmidae that occur in a country is important for the advancement of ecological knowledge and the useof these organisms in biomonitoring programs. To date, there are checklists of elmids recorded in two regions of Brazil—one for the Amazon region, listing 48 species in 14 genera, and another for the state of Rio de Janeiro, listing 13 speciesin 7 genera. Thus, there is no checklist of the Elmidae for Brazil as a whole, and only inconsistent estimates of the numberof species present. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to present a checklist of the Elmidae recorded from Brazil

Each RF-based model was trained and optimised using cross-validation. Environmental variables that explained most of the Elmidae spatial variability

Abstract:
This work presents a list of water beetles of the families Hydraenidae and Elmidae occurring in Kabylia (central-north of Algeria) based on an exhaustive review of literature (1872–2016) and on more than 2126 individuals collected during field campaigns (2013–2015). Twenty-five species belonging to nine genera of Hydraenidae and Elmidae are here recorded from a total of 25 sites. Ochthebius (Ochthebius) bifoveolatus Waltl, 1835 is here recorded for the first time from Algeria; Hydraena leprieuri, Limnebius pilicauda, and Limnius intermedius are new records for Kabylia. Abstract:
The elmid beetle Orientelmis parvula (Nomura & Baba, 1961) is a rare and endangered species in Japan. Mouth parts and genitalia in adults of both sexes and larval morphology are described based on scanning electron microscope observations. The larva of the genus Orientelmis Shepard, 1998 is described for the first time. The systematic position of the genus is discussed based on the morphology and a phylogenetic tree inferred from the mitochondrial COI, and nuclear ArgK and 18S gene sequences. A new key for larvae of known species and genera of Japanese Elmidae is given.

Podonychus gyobusp. nov., a second species of the genus Podonychus Jäch & Kodada, 1997, hitherto known only from Indonesia, is described from Kyushu, Japan. This new species is similar to P. sagittarius Jäch & Kodada, 1997, but differs from it in the straight penis, arcuate 2nd labial palpomere, and in the 3rd antennomere being longer than wide. The endophallic structures and the larva of P. gyobusp. nov. are described. A character matrix of the Macronychini genera and a key to the Japanese genera are provided.

Elachistelmis gen. n. is described for two new species of riffle beetle, E. tetramera sp. n., and E. sipaliwiniensis sp. n. from southwestern Suriname. This new genus can be distinguished from all other elmid genera by its small size (ca. 1.0–1.2 mm), pronotum with sublateral carinae and lacking depressions, and the presence of a narrow band of plastron setae on the lateral edge of each elytron. Elachistelmis tetramera sp. n. is among the smallest recorded Elmini and possesses many characters associated with miniaturization, such as reduced tarsal formula and feathery wings with reduced venati

Abstract:
Elmidae is one of the most diverse families of aquatic beetles, with more than 1500 species in 148 genera. Cylloepus is the genus with the most species in Americas, with 52 species and 2 subspecies currently known. The genus is easily recognised by external morphology; body elongate, pronotum with a longitudinal impression on the disc and elytra striate and punctate. In this paper, based on the study of several international reference collections, we propose two new combinations, and describe two new species of Cylloepus (C. bispoi sp. nov. and C. segurae sp. nov.) from Ecuador and Bolivia.

A new species, Hintonelmis spila sp. nov. from Brazil, Guyana, and Suriname, is described, illustrated, and diagnosed. The new species can be distinguished from all known species of the genus by the coloration pattern of the elytra (a pair of elongated yellowish-brown patches near the humeral region, a second pair is shorter than the first one, and situated approximately on apical 3/5, and an apical patch along the elytral suture). The combination of characters of the male genitalia can be helpful to distinguish species: the parameres are 3/5 the length of the penis, the phallobase is shorter
