Integrated pest management calls for new biocontrol solutions in management of forest diseases. Endophytic fungi that are commonly found in tree tissue may have potential in biocontrol. However, the links between endophyte status and disease tolerance are still unclear, and we know little about the mechanisms by which the endophytes can influence tree pathogens. The first goal of the thesis was to compare the endophyte status in elm (Ulmus spp.) trees with low vs. high susceptibility to Dutch elm disease (DED), caused by Ophiostoma fungi, and to find correlations between endophytes and the susceptibility pattern of the trees. The second goal was to investigate the potential mechanisms of antagonism by the endophytes towards the pathogen. Thus, endophytes were isolated from leaves, bark and xylem of elms that differed in DED susceptibility. The isolates were screened for their potential to counteract the pathogen in dual cultures. Selected strains were investigated using Phenotype MicroArrays to obtain the substrate utilization profiles that reflect the endophytes’ ability to compete with the pathogen for a nutritional niche. To test for a protective effect against the disease, promising isolates were injected into young elms. Preliminary analyses were done to identify the extracellular chemicals that some of the endophytes released into the growth medium. The results showed that the frequency and diversity of endophytes was higher in xylem of elms with high susceptibility to DED. Some endophytes deadlocked the pathogen with extracellular chemicals in vitro, while others had a faster growth rate. Several endophytes were able to utilize substrates more effectively than the pathogen. A preventive treatment with endophytes protected elms against DED, but the effect was unstable across years. Bioactive fungal extracts had a complex chemical profile, and the individual compounds in the extracts remain to be identified. Because endophytes antagonized the pathogen through different mechanisms, I suggest that an endophytebased biocontrol of DED could be best achieved through a synergistic effect of several endophyte strains.

Jean-Claude Eloy est un compositeur passionné de musiques extra-européennes (et en particulier de musique japonaise) qui revendique un multiculturalisme militant et refuse farouchement que sa démarche puisse être associée à un quelconque exotisme. Pourtant, et sans que la sincérité de son positionnement idéologique puisse être remise en cause, certaines ambiguïtés apparaissent au fur et à mesure de l’étude de sa production. Ainsi, si l’exotisme de surface caractéristique du XIXe siècle a disparu au profit d’un intérêt largement documenté pour les cultures musicales non occidentales, on n’en décèle pas moins la permanence de thèmes caractéristiques de cet exotisme. Il s’agira d’analyser ce paradoxe et d’en proposer des explications. Le travail part de l’hypothèse que l’exotisme repose sur un imaginaire anthropologique à partir duquel prennent naissance des expressions différentes selon les lieux et les époques. L’exotisme répondrait ainsi à des réalités humaines dans lesquelles le contexte colonial aurait joué un rôle uniquement facilitateur (et non suscitateur). Cet exotisme ne pourrait donc pas avoir disparu avec la fin des empires. Il s’agira ainsi de lire les ambiguïtés d’Eloy à la lumière d'un « mythe exotique » toujours vivace dans l’imaginaire collectif contemporain. S’appuyant sur le courant des postcolonial studies, cette lecture interrogera les résurgences exotiques présentes dans l’œuvre d’Eloy pour aboutir à la définition d’un exotisme postcolonial différente de celles qui ont pu être développées dans le domaine littéraireJean-Claude Eloy is a French composer. He is passionately fond of extra-European music, especially Japanese music. He calls for muticulturalism and refuses his works to be associated with exoticism. Even so - and without questionning Eloy’s intellectual honesty - it is possible to find out some ambiguities in his works. For instance, even though superficial exoticism, typical of XIXth century, no longer appears in his music, several themes of this exoticism can be found in some of this works. We will analyze this paradox and suggest some explanations. Our thinking is based on the proposition that exoticism comes from anthropoligical imagination and takes a variety of forms depending on the era. According to this proposition, colonialism has made the development of exoticism easier but didn’t create it. As a result, exoticism could not completely disappear with the end of colonial empires and still exists as a human reality. Postcolonial studies, semiotics and hermeneutics will be used as a background approach to explain the existence of exoticism in Eloy’s works

Le développement des organismes multicellulaires, la morphologie de leurs organes, la formation de connections nerveuses ou même la réponse immunitaire conduisent à la formation de cellules dont la mort a été programmée, ces cellules sont en apoptose. Les corps apoptotiques générés sont éliminés par phagocytose, que l'on peut ainsi considérer comme l'étape ultime du programme apoptotique. Cette élimination, assurée soit par des phagocytes professionnels ou des cellules environnantes est très efficace et peu de cellules en apoptose sont observées dans les différents tissus et organes. Deux familles de protéines, ELMO et DOCK, sont connues pour être au centre d'une voie de signalisation impliquée dans l'activation de la petite GTPase Rac et le remodelage du cytosquelette d'actine permettant l'internalisation de corps apoptotiques, mais la manière dont ELMO est activée par la reconnaissance des corps apoptotique reste largement méconnue. Récemment, ELMO a été identifiée comme cible de la kinase hématopoïétique Hck. La phosphorylation d'ELMO constitue un signal d'activation de la voie de phagocytose. Nous avons pu montrer que les domaines N et C-terminaux d'ELMO sont impliqués dans l'interaction avec le domaine SH3 de Hck. Contrairement au SH3 de DOCK, l'interaction du domaine C-terminal avec le SH3 de Hck est strictement dépendante de la présence du polyproline. Les données obtenues sur les cellules transfectées suggère l'interaction in cellulo du motif polyproline avec le domaine SH3 de Hck. La différence dans le comportement du domaine C-terminal d'ELMO avec les deux SH3 nous a mené à identifier un complexe ternaire entre les trois protéines. Le motif polyproline d'ELMO est adjacent à l'une des 5 tyrosines phosphorylées par Hck, la tyrosine 720, nos résultats montrent que la phosphorylation de cette tyrosine défavorise l'interaction entre le domaine C-terminal et le SH3 de Hck. Cette phosphorylation pourrait être à l'origine d'un effet régulateur de Hck sur le complexe ELMO/DOCKMulticellular organisms development, tissue organization and morphogenesis, nerve connection network or even immune response lead to programmed cell death or apoptosis. Phagocytosis is the mean for the engulfment of the apoptotic corpses and can thus be considered as the final step of the apoptotic pathway. Both non-professional and professional phagocytic cells are implicated to achieve an efficient clearance of the apoptotic cells and debris, and very little dead cells are actually present in tissues under normal circumstances, preventing secondary necrosis and further inflammation. Two family of proteins, ELMO and DOCK have been identified as major characters in the signaling pathway leading to the activation of the small GTPase Rac, and actin remodeling, that eventually leads to engulfment. Nevertheless, very little is yet known about the upstream events leading to ELMO activation. Recently, ELMO has been characterized as a target for the hematopoietic cell kinase Hck, and consequent phosphorylation participates in ELMO activation. In the course of the present work, we demonstrated that both N- and C-terminal domains of ELMO are binding the SH3 domain of Hck. In contrast with the SH3 domain of DOCK, the SH3 domain of Hck binding to the C-terminal of ELMO is strictly dependent upon the polyproline motif. Our data obtained using transfected cells, further suggest the polyproline dependent interaction also occurs in cells. Taking into account the differential behavior of both SH3 domains from DOCK and Hck we next demonstrated a ternary complex formation between ELMO and both partners in vitro. Finally, we investigated the possible role for the Hck phosphorylation of Y720 located at the edge of the polyproline motif of ELMO and demonstrated that this phosphorylation clearly increases the Kd of ELMO/Hck interaction suggesting this phosphorylation could be part of a regulation loop in Hck dependent ELMO activation

Evolution of measured profiles of densities, temperatures and velocities in the edge pedestal region between successive ELM (edge-localized mode) events are analyzed and interpreted in terms of the constraints imposed by particle, momentum and energy balance in order to gain insights regarding the underlying evolution of transport processes in the edge pedestal between ELMs in a series of DIII-D discharges. The data from successive inter-ELM periods during an otherwise steady-state phase of the discharges were combined into a composite inter-ELM period for the purpose of increasing the number of data points in the analysis. These composite periods were partitioned into sequential intervals to examine inter-ELM transport evolution. The GTEDGE integrated modeling code was used to calculate and interpret plasma transport and properties during each interval using particle, momentum, and energy balance. Variation of diffusive and non-diffusive (pinch) particle, momentum, and energy transport over the inter-ELM period are examined for discharges with plasma currents from 0.5 to 1.5 MA and inter-ELM periods from 50 to 220 ms. Diffusive transport is dominant for ρ< 0.925, while non-diffusive and diffusive transport are very large and nearly balancing in the sharp gradient region 0.925 <ρ <1.0. Transport effects of ion orbit loss are significant for ρ > 0.95, and are taken into account. During the inter-ELM period, diffusive transport increases slightly more than non-diffusive transport, increasing total outward transport. Both diffusive and non-diffusive transport have a strong inverse correlation with plasma current. Weakening the electromagnetic pinch may increase outward particle transport, and enable control over the rebuilding of the edge pedestal between ELMs.

Esta dissertação apresenta o estudo do modelo catalítico monômero-monômero, também conhecido como modelo AB, com a adição do mecanismo de Eley-Rideal (ER) para a espécie A. Monômeros imediatamente após adsorvidos podem reagir com um primeiro vizinho de espécie diferente, formando o dímero AB. Além disso, temos a possibilidade de reação pelo mecanismo ER, onde uma partícula A adsorvida reage com um monômero A em forma gasosa. Todas as reações são instantâneas e ocorrem com probabilidade igual a um, o parâmetro de controle é a probabilidade de que a próxima partícula a ser adsorvida seja do tipo A. Analisamos o modelo através de métodos de campo médio nas aproximações de sítios e pares. Também estudamos o modelo através de simulações com o método de Monte Carlo, efetuando análise de escala de tamanho finito e um estudo da razão dos momentos do parâmetro de ordem. Encontramos um diagrama de fases com um estado absorvente onde a rede fica completamente coberta por monômeros do tipo B. Encontramos o ponto crítico da transição e também a razão entre os expoentes críticos estáticos B e V1.
Abstract : We present here a study on the well known monomer-monomer lattice model, sometimes called AB model, with the addition of an autocatalytic reaction for the A species through the Eley-Rideal mechanism. Immediately after adsorption monomers can react with a first neighbor of a diferent species, producing an AB dimer. In addition we have the possibility of an A adsorbed monomer to react with another non-adsorbed gaseous A monomer. All reactions occur instantly with probability one. We have as the order parameter the probability that the next particle arriving at the lattice belongs to the A species. We used site and pair mean field approximations, Monte Carlo simulations, as well as finite size scaling and an analysis of the order parameter moments ratios. We determined the phase diagram, which contains an absorbing state where the lattice is fully occupied by B particles. We also found the critical point to the absorbing state, and we determined the static critical exponents ratio B_V1.

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo a realização de uma análise comparativa nas vertentes artísticas da poesia e pintura. Pretendemos demonstrar que as temáticas da modernidade, humanismo, visualíssimo e expressividade são abordadas de forma comparável por Antero de Quental, enquanto poeta, e Mário Eloy, enquanto pintor. Antero de Quental apresenta, na sua poesia, palavras detentoras de uma forte expressividade. A par da expressividade da palavra, e baseada nela, pode construir-se um cenário da poesia anteriana. O vermelho, o verde e o azul são as cores fortes de Mário Eloy. O tratamento da cor, a distribuição da luz, a diferente pormenorização dada aos rostos, aos desproporcionados corpos das figuras e às suas roupas, evidenciam a autonomia da interiorização dos cânones e técnicas expressionistas. As cores, tal como as formas, transmitem uma forte expressividade, uma mensagem, uma palavra. Nesta dissertação tentaremos provar que os artistas em análise, apesar de pertencerem a épocas distintas, “encontram-se” nalguns tópicos. Para além das temáticas abordadas, este encontro artístico evidencia-se pelo facto de poder existir um visualismo em Antero e expressividade em Eloy. Poderemos ainda escutar a voz de Mário Eloy na poesia de Antero e vermos a plasticidade de Antero nas telas de Eloy. ***/Abstract - The present work has the aim to accomplish a comparative analysis in the artistic slopes of poetry and painting. It intends to demonstrate that the themes of modernity, humanism, visualism and expressiveness are approached in a comparable way by Antero de Quental as a poet and by Mário Eloy as a painter. In his poetry, Antero de Quental presents us with words of strong expressiveness. Along with that expressiveness and based on it, a scenery of Antero's poetry can be built. Red, green and blue are Mário Eloy's strong colours. The treatment of colour, the distribution of light, the different details given to faces, to disproportionate bodies of the illustrations and their clothes, make the autonomy of the interiorisation of the canons and expressionist techniques evident. The colours, just as the forms, transmit a strong expressiveness, a message, a word. In this dissertation we will try to prove that in spite of belonging to distinct time periods, both the artists under analysis “meet” in some topics. Besides the approached themes, this artistic encounter is made evident by the fact that there may be visualism in Antero and expressiveness in Eloy. We can still listen to the voice of Mário Eloy in the poetry of Antero and see the plasticity of Antero in Eloy's paintings. ***/Le résumé - Le but de ce travail c'est de faire une analyse comparative entre le côté artistique de poésie et peinture. Donc, on se propose montrer que les thématiques telles que la modernité, l’humanisme, le visualisme et l’expressivité sont traitées de façon comparable par Antero de Quental, le poète, et Mário Eloy, le peintre. Dans sa poésie, Antero de Quental présente des mots pleins d'expressivité. Un décor de sa poésie peut être construit grâce justement à cette expressivité. Le rouge, le vert et le bleu sont les couleurs fortes de Mário Eloy. Le traitement de la couleur, la distribution de la lumière, les différents détails des visages, des corps disproportionnés et des vêtements des figures, montrent l’autonomie de l'intériorisation soit du canon, soit des techniques expressionistes. Les couleurs, de même que les formes, transmettent une grande expressivité, un message, un mot. Bien que ces artistes appartiennent à des époques bien différentes, dans ce travail on essaiera de faire preuve qu'il y a une rencontre entre eux. Au-delà des thématiques analysées, cette rencontre artistique est mise en evidence par la possibilité d’existence d'un visualisme chez Antero et d'une expressivité chez Eloy. On peut même entendre la voix de Mário Eloy dans la poésie d’Antero et voir la plasticité de celui-ci sur les toiles de celui-là.

Dans les tokamaks, les instabilités nommées ELMs (pour ``Edge Localized Modes'') génèrent des relaxations quasi-périodiques du plasma, potentiellement néfastes pour le divertor d'ITER. Une méthode de contrôle des ELMs prévue pour ITER est l'application de Perturbations Magnétiques Résonantes (RMPs), capables de mitiger ou supprimer les ELMs dans les tokamaks existants. Afin d'améliorer la compréhension de l'interaction entre les ELMs, les RMPs et les écoulements du plasma et de réaliser des prédictions fiables pour ITER, la simulation non-linéaire des ELMs et des RMPs est réalisée avec le code de MHD réduite JOREK, en géométrie réaliste. Les effets bi-fluides diamagnétiques, la friction poloidale néoclassique, une source de rotation parallèle et les RMPs ont été ajoutés dans JOREK pour simuler la pénétration des RMP en prenant en compte la réponse cohérente du plasma. Dans un premier temps, la réponse du plasma aux RMPs (sans ELMs) est étudiée dans le cas des tokamaks JET, MAST et ITER, pour des paramètres réalistes. Ensuite, la dynamique cyclique des ELMs (sans RMPs) est modélisée pour la première fois en géométrie réaliste. La compétition entre la stabilisation du plasma par la rotation diamagnétique et sa déstabilisation par la source de chaleur induit la reconstruction cyclique du piédestal. Enfin la mitigation et la suppression des ELMs sont obtenues pour la première fois dans nos simulations. Le couplage non-linéaire des RMPs avec des modes instables du plasma induit une activité MHD continue à la place des violentes relaxations d'ELMs. Au-delà d'un seuil de perturbation magnétique, la suppression totale des ELMs est également observéeThe growth of plasma instabilities called Edge Localized Modes (ELMs) in tokamaks results in the quasi-periodic relaxations of the edge plasma, potentially harmful for the divertor in ITER. One of the promising ELM control methods planned in ITER is the application of external resonant magnetic perturbations (RMPs), already efficient for ELM mitigation/suppression in current tokamak experiments. However a better understanding of the interaction between ELMs, RMPs and plasma flows is needed to make reliable predictions for ITER. In this perspective, non-linear modeling of ELMs and RMPs is done with the reduced MHD code JOREK, in realisitic geometry including the X-point and the Scrape-Off Layer. The two-fluid diamagnetic drifts, the neoclassical friction, a source of parallel rotation and RMPs have been implemented to simulate the RMP penetration consistently with the plasma response. As a first step, the plasma response to RMPs (without ELMs) is studied for JET, MAST and ITER realistic plasma parameters and geometry. Then the cyclic dynamics of the ELMs (without RMPs) is modeled for the first time in realistic geometry. After an ELM crash, the diamagnetic rotation is found to be instrumental to stabilize the plasma and to model the cyclic reconstruction and collapse of the plasma pressure profile. Last the ELM mitigation and suppression by RMPs is observed for the first time in modeling. The non-linear coupling of the RMPs with unstable modes is found to induce a continuous MHD activity in place of a large ELM crash, resulting in the mitigation of the ELMs. Over a threshold in magnetic perturbation, the full ELM suppression is also observed

Uusi joukkoliikennelaki ja EU:n palvelusopimusasetus astuivat voimaan jo vuonna 2009, mutta muutos joukkoliikenteen järjestämisessä tapahtuu asteittain. Uudistuneen lainsäädännön mukaan joukkoliikenne on järjestettävä kilpailutetuilla sopimuksilla, jos sen järjestämiseen käytetään julkista tukea. Joukkoliikenteen toimivaltainen viranomainen määrittelee tavoitteellisen palvelutason alueellaan. Pohjois-Pohjanmaan nykyinen joukkoliikenteen palvelutasopäätös on voimassa vuoden 2016 loppuun asti. Uuden palvelutasopäätöksen valmistelu aloitetaan hyvissä ajoin, sillä asetettujen tavoitteiden mukaan toimivaltainen viranomainen toimii tiiviissä yhteistyössä kuntien kanssa. Kuntien kanssa on selvitettävä, mitä liikenteitä tullaan jatkossa hankkimaan, kuka hankinnat maksaa ja mitkä ovat valmiudet yhteishankintoihin. Varsinaisen palvelutasosuunnitelman valmistelua varten Pohjois-Pohjanmaan ELY-keskus käynnisti toukokuussa 2014 hankkeen Ylivieskan ja Nivala-Haapajärven seutukuntien joukkoliikenteen sekä palvelutason nykytilan kartoittamiseksi. Hankkeen yhteydessä toteutettiin tämä diplomityö, jonka keskeisenä tavoitteena on luoda kokonaiskuva joukkoliikenteiden alueellisesta suunnittelu- ja hankintaprosessista sekä tuoda esille siinä esiintyviä ongelmia. Tavoitteena on myös löytää toimintamalleja, joiden avulla alueellista joukkoliikennesuunnittelua saataisiin tehostettua sekä ELY-keskuksen ja kuntien välistä yhteistyötä lisättyä. Tutkimustyön lähtökohtana toimi suunnittelualueen joukkoliikenteen nykytilan kartoittaminen. Tiedot kuntien hankkimista liikenteistä kerättiin kuntiin toimitetun lähtötietokyselyn avulla. Pohjois-Pohjanmaan ELY-keskuksen kautta saatiin tiedot ELY-keskuksen toimivallassa olevista liikenteistä. Nykytila-analyysin yhteenvetona voidaan todeta, että alueella toimiva joukkoliikenneverkko on kattava, mutta palvelutaso on alueen pääväyliä lukuun ottamatta melko alhainen. Alueen väestörakenteen sekä pitkien etäisyyksien vuoksi laajan ja kattavan joukkoliikenneverkon ylläpito on äärettömän haastavaa. Selvitystyön edetessä toteutettiin verkkokysely, jonka avulla kartoitettiin kuntien suhtautumista joukkoliikennesuunnittelun nykyisiin organisointimalleihin, joukkoliikennesuunnittelun kehittämiseen sekä alueellisen yhteistyön lisäämiseen. Lähtökohdat yhteistyön lisäämiselle ovat hyvät, sillä verkkokyselyn perusteella kunnat suhtautuvat hyvin myönteisesti alueellisen yhteistyön tiivistämiseen. Vastauksien perusteella suurimpia ongelmia kuntatasolla ovat resurssipuutteista johtuva vähäinen panostus joukkoliikennesuunnittelun sekä hankintojen kehittämiseen. Suunnittelun kehittäminen sekä riittävän asiantuntemuksen saavuttaminen on tärkeää, jotta kuntien kuljetukset saataisiin järjestettyä mahdollisimman tehokkaasti uudistuneen lainsäädännön mukaisesti. Nykyisten toimintamallien tehostaminen on myös välttämätöntä, jotta käytettävissä olevat resurssit saadaan hyödynnettyä mahdollisimman tehokkaasti. Pohjois-Pohjanmaan ELY-keskuksen toimesta suunnittelualueelle perustetaan alueelliset joukkoliikennetyöryhmät. Työryhmät valmistelevat muun muassa uutta palvelutasosuunnitelmaa ja ryhmät toimivatkin hyvänä lähtökohtana alueellisen yhteistyön lisäämiselle. Jotta joukkoliikennesuunnittelua saataisiin kokonaisuudessaan kehitettyä, on työryhmien lisäksi tehtävä muita toimenpiteitä. Yksi ratkaisu voisi olla liikenneturvallisuustyöstä tuttu toimijamalli. Toimijamallin tavoitteena on lisätä kuntien tietoisuutta joukkoliikenteestä, henkilökuljetuksista sekä hankinnoista. Mallissa toimijana työskentelevä asiantuntija tuntee alueen liikennetarjonnan ja pystyy tarjoamaan apua kuntakohtaisesti. Keskeinen periaate on, että toimijamallissa kunnille turvataan riittävä informaatio kohtuullisilla resursseilla. Yksi päätavoitteista on myös kuntien välisen yhteistyön lisääminen sekä toimiminen kuntaryhmän ja ELY-keskuksen välisenä linkkinäSignificant changes are ongoing in public transport because the market has been opened to the competition. The new Public Transport Act and the EU regulation on public passenger transport services by train and road have taken effect already in 2009 but the changes in organizing public transport will take place step-by-step. The competent authority of public transport defines the level of service in their region. The current service level decision of public transport of North Ostrobothnia is valid until the end of year 2016. The preparation of the new service level decision will be started well in advance because the objective is that the competent authority will work closely with the municipalities. The ELY Centre of North Ostrobothnia started a project in May 2014 to determine the current state of public transport in Ylivieska and Nivala-Haapajärvi sub-regions. This master’s thesis is a part of the project. The main objective of this thesis is to create an overview of the regional planning and acquisition process of public transport and to point out problems in those. Another objective is to find ways to improve regional public transport planning and the cooperation between the ELY Centre and the municipalities. The determination of the current state of public transportation was the baseline for the research. As a result of the current state analysis it can be stated that public transport network is comprehensive but except for major roads the service level is fairly low. Because of the population structure and the long distances the maintenance of wide and comprehensive public transport network is extremely challenging. During the project an online survey was implemented. The objective was to determine the attitude of municipalities for the improvement of public transport planning and for the increase of regional cooperation. According to the survey there was strong interest for increasing the cooperation. Based on the survey the biggest issue at municipal level is limited resources. Because of the limited resources the improvement of public transport planning and acquisitions is challenging. New regional public transport groups will be founded by the ELY Centre of North Ostrobothnia. The groups will prepare the new service level decision and they will work as a good baseline for improving the regional cooperation. Also other actions have to take place in order to improve the overall public transport planning. One solution could be the operator model which is used in traffic safety work. The objective in the operator model is to improve the municipalities’ knowledge of public transport, passenger transport and acquisitions. In the operator model there is an expert who is familiar with the local transport and is able to provide assistance. The main principle is to provide enough information with reasonable amount of resources. Also one of the main objectives is to increase the cooperation between municipalities and working as a link between municipalities and the ELY Centre

Therefore in this thesis will discuss and present the role of In-novation Culture in driving growth, particularly in Al-Elm‘s case, as our case study for this research paper.PurposeThe purpose of this research thesis is to study and analyze the role of innovation culture in Al-Elm Information Security Company‘s con-tinued survival and explosive growth.MethodTo fulfill the purpose of this thesis, we followed qualitative research and conducted semi structured and structured interviews with both open ended and closed ended questions through the means of fae-to-face on site interviews in Riyadh Saudi Arabia where Al-Elm is lo-cated, to collect the empirical data. For this study, we have included only seven interviews out of a total of twelve interviews we con-ducted for the purpose of this research, following purposive sam-pling. In the analysis, we analyzed Al-Elm‘s previous success based on Innovation, its current growth trajectory, as well as future projec-tions based on the Innovation Culture, providing insights based on both the empirical findings as well as literature. We deducted the conclusion that innovation culture is the vital source to keep the company, Al-Elm, continually survive and thrive, and grow fur-ther. Actually innovation culture is embedded in the company system and also is a habit for all the people within the organization. Innovation culture makes employee generate more useful ideas and then put them into practice for the company, which is why company has experienced phenomenal growth and has grown exponentially in terms of revenue and size.

In this report we build on existing theories of Edge Localised Modes (ELMs) that incorporate the theory of Magnetic Relaxation, firstly by introducing the effects of the bootstrap current and secondly by applying the relaxation model to the field of ELM mitigation. The bootstrap current is a toroidal plasma current that arises spontaneously as a result of the confinement of the plasma. It is shown that the effect of introducing this current is to split the ELM widths associated with this model into two classes; one group with large ELM widths, the other with small ELM widths. An analytical study is then carried out which provides a theoretical basis for this bifurcation of results. Finally the idea of ELM mitigation using Resonant Magnetic Perturbations will be introduced before the Relaxation Theory of ELMs is used to give new insight into ELM mitigation results.

Analisar as razões da edição da lei e compreender as nuances que presidiram sua elaboração, compreendido todo o contexto histórico da época, são tarefas necessárias a fim de desmistificar seu caráter precursor na história dos direitos sociais do país.
The Eloy Chaves Law of 1923, which created the pension and survivor’s benefit fund for railway workers, was enacted in a troubled period in Brazil’s history. In the midst of political, social and financial crisis, this law, which is considered the initial landmark of Brazilian social security, may be seen as particular for that period, since through its legal outlines and political motivations, it reveals itself much more as a rule intended to benefit a specific professional category essential for Brazilian economy, than an original rule of a retirement system to be implemented in the country. To examine the grounds of enacting this law and understand the differences that guided its drafting process, after being aware on the entire historical context of that time, are necessary tasks to demystify its pioneer character in the history of social rights of Brazil.

This study assessed the water quality of the Elm Fork Watershed with regards to the herbicide Atrazine. Atrazine is a potential environmental endocrine disruptor and carcinogen. Overall, concentrations were lower than the four-quarter drinking water average of 3 µg/Lthe Maximum Contaminant Level set by the USEPA. However, three creek stations had four-quarter average concentrations greater than 3 µg/L, and virtually all samples exceeded the 0.1 µg/L standard set in Europe [1,2]. Statistically significant differences in concentrations were detected between the 27 sampling stations and areas of high concentrations were identified. However correlations between Atrazine concentrations and land-use and precipitation were not statistically significant. Further analysis with more detailed data should be conducted before any relationships are discarded.

This thesis aims at investigate the feasibility of classifying the soprano singing voice type using a single layer neural network trained with the FIR-ELM algorithm after that the monaural auditory mixture has been segmented with the Harmonic, Percussive and Residual, HPR, decomposition algorithm, previously introduced by Driedger et al.Two different decomposition structures has been evaluated both based on the same HPR decomposition technique. Firstly one single layer that only take advantage of the result of the more pure harmonic and the more pure percussive components of the signal. Secondly, one multilayer structure that further decompose both the harmonic and the percussive components but also takes into account the components that can not be clearly categorized as neither harmonic or percussive components, these are the residual components. The result of the classification was up to 98.5 $\%$ after using these segmentation techniques, this shows that it is feasibly to classify the singing voice type soprano in an monaural source recorded in a non-professional environment using the FIR-ELM algorithm.

Paikkatieto tarjoaa lukuisia mahdollisuuksia tiedon käsittelyyn ja käyttöön eri yhteiskunnan aloilla. Paikkatietoa on hyödynnetty kuitenkin vaihtelevasti erityisesti tietojohtamisen ja päätöksenteon yhteydessä. Paljon hyvää ja kovalla työllä tuotettua raakatietoa on vielä käyttämättä ja jatkojalostamatta. Tämä tutkielma selvittää paikkatiedon käyttöä erityisesti tietojohtamisen ja päätöksenteon yhteydessä Keski-Suomen ELY-keskuksen henkilökunnan keskuudessa. Keski-Suomen ELY-keskus on julkishallinnollinen organisaatio, joka muiden Suomen ELY-keskusten tavoin pitää huolta valtionhallinnon alueellisista kehittämis- ja toimeenpanotehtävistä. Paikkatietoa on käytetty tutkimuskohteessa, mutta käyttäjämääristä ei ole ollut tarkkaa tietoa. Tiedon saatavuus ja vanhat organisaatiorakenteet ovat aiheuttaneet haasteita paikkatiedon hyödyntämiselle.
Tutkielma on laadullinen tutkimus, jonka aineisto on kerätty kyselyhaastattelun avulla Keski-Suomen ELY-keskuksen henkilökunnalta keväällä 2013. Kaksi kertaa lähetettyyn kyselyyn vastasi yhteensä 64 henkilöä, ja vastausprosentiksi muodostui 27,8 prosenttia. Kysely oli poikittaistutkimus, ja se noudatti sekä strukturoidun että puolistrukturoidun haastattelun periaatteita. Kyselyn tuloksista strukturoituja vastauksia eli monivalintakysymysvastauksia analysoitiin jakaumien eli diagrammien avulla. Puolistrukturoituja eli avoimia vastauksia käsiteltiin taas teoriasidonnaisen sisällönanalyysin avulla. Kyselyn avulla saatiin hyvin kartoitettua paikkatiedon tämän hetkistä käyttämistä ja hyödyntämistä tutkimuskohteessa. Tuloksia rinnastettiin pääasiassa Crainin ja MacDonaldin (1984) paikkatiedon käytön kehityskaareen.
Kyselyyn vastaajat vaikuttivat olevan tällä hetkellä melko tyytyväisiä paikkatiedon käyttöä kohtaan. Suurin osa paikkatiedon käytöstä kohdistui valmiin paikkatiedon katseluun. Myös tulevaisuuteen suuntautuneessa käytössä eniten kiinnostusta oli asioiden visualisointiin paikkatiedon avulla ja valmiin paikkatiedon katseluun. Päätöksenteko ja tietojohtaminen paikkatiedon yhteydessä eivät nousseet tärkeimmäksi teemaksi kyselyn vastausten perusteella. Myös melko pieni osa vastaajista oli paikkatieto-ohjelmien kuten ArcGis:n tai Kartturin aktiivikäyttäjiä. Pyrittäessä paikantamaan missä vaiheessa Keski-Suomen ELY-keskus on menossa Crainin ja MacDonaldin (1984) paikkatiedon kolmivaiheisessa kehityskaaressa, sijoittuminen kohdistuu tiedon analysoinnin ja tiedon käytön vaiheisiin. Ainoastaan 16 henkilöä koki, että paikkatietoaineistojen saanti on helppoa organisaation sisällä. Tulevaisuutta ajatellen eniten toiveita nousi yhteisen paikkatietoinfrastruktuurin rakentamiseen liittyen, lisäkouluttautumiseen sekä paikkatiedon hyödyntämiseen päätöksenteon ja tietojohtamisen kannalta. Koulutusresurssit tutkimuskohteen kannattaa keskittää paikkatiedon oppimisesta ja käytöstä motivoituneisiin henkilöihin. Tutkielman tulokset avaavat ymmärrystä myös muista julkishallinnon organisaatioista paikkatiedon hyödyntämisen osalta niin yleisesti kuin tietojohtamisen ja päätöksenteon näkökulmasta.

Les protéines eucaryotes Elmo (Engulfment and Cell Motility) forment une famille de régulateurs conservés qui jouent un rôle central dans les processus biologiques reposant sur le remodelage du cytosquelette d'actine comme la phagocytose et la migration cellulaire et régulé par les GTPases de la famille Rho. Les protéines Elmo régulent la fonction des protéines Dock (Downstream of Crk), qui sont des Facteurs d'Echange de Guanine (GEF) atypiques pour les GTPases Rac1 et Cdc42. Le mécanisme de régulation connu à ce jour, repose sur l'interaction entre les 200 résidus C-terminaux d'Elmo et les 180 premiers résidus N-terminaux de Dock. Cependant, le rôle précis des différents domaines et motifs identifiés dans ces régions n'est pas encore défini. En effet, les données fonctionnelles, biochimiques et structurales rapportées à ce jour semblent contradictoires quant à la contribution de l'extrémité C-terminale d'Elmo qui comprend un motif polyproline et le domaine SH3 N-terminal de Dock. Nous avons donc étudié la contribution de l'extrémité C-terminale de Elmo1 à l'interaction entre Elmo1 et le domaine SH3 de Dock1 en utilisant notamment la résonance plasmonique de surface. Nos données démontrent la capacité du domaine SH3 de Dock1 à interagir avec Elmo1, indépendamment de l'extrémité C-terminale contenant le motif polyproline. Toutefois, la présence de cette région conduit à une augmentation significative du temps de demi-vie du complexe Elmo1/Dock1. En parallèle, des expériences de diffusion des rayons X aux petits angles nous ont permis de déterminer des enveloppes tridimensionnelles de la protéine Elmo1. Ces données nous permettent ainsi de proposer un premier modèle à basse résolution dans lequel nous localisons les parties N et C-terminales de Elmo1. De façon surprenante cette étude semble indiquer un changement de conformation de la région N-terminale de Elmo1 ainsi qu'une interaction possible de cette même région avec le domaine SH3 de Dock1.

In this study, we report the characterization of Dock/Elmo proteins, a novel family of RacGEF's in Dictyostelium discoideum and describe their role in phagocytosis, macropinocytosis and CAMP mediated chemotactic cell movement. Aggregation competent Dictyostelium cells can detect and move up cAMP gradients. cAMP stimulation causes a transient localized increase in phosphatidyl inositol (3,4,5) tris phosphate (PIP3) concentration in the plasma membrane at the cell's leading edge. PIP3 binding domain containing RacGEF's are thought to mediate the cAMP signal through the activation of Racs to localised actin polymerization, which results in further extension of the leading edge in the direction of the CAMP gradient. However inhibition of PIP3 formation, through inhibition of P13K activity,results only in a partial defect of chemotaxis, implying that there may exist other signalling pathways that mediate the CAMP signal to the cytoskeleton. Members of the Dock family form a novel class of Rac activators and deletion of dock in Drosophila and C. elegans results in chemotaxis and phagocytosis defects. We have identified the 8 dock genes and 4 elmo genes in the Dictyostelium genome, which we named dockA-H and elmo1-4. To investigate the role of Dock/Elmo, we generated null mutant strains (dockAnull, dockBnull, dockA/Bnull, dockCnull, dockDnull, dockGnull, dockHnull, elmo1null and elmo1/dockBnull) by gene disruption using homologous recombination. In our study, knockout dock genes in Dictyostelium results in numerous defects. dockAnull cells show a slow chemotactic response to CAMP and reduced rate in macropinocytosis. dockAnull slugs show poor phototaxis. dockBnull cells grow slowly in the axenic medium and are defective in chemotaxis, macropinocytosis and phagocytosis. dockA/B double mutant cells show stronger defects in chemotaxis than either mutant by itself. In the dockA/Bnull double mutant chemotaxis is almost completely inhibited in presence of the P13K inhibitor LY294002. dockAnull, dockBnull, dockA/Bnull cells all show reduced actin polymerization upon cAMP stimulation. dockCnull cells also show poor chemotaxis to cAMP. However there is no obvious defect in chemotaxis, macropinocytosis and phagocytosis for dockDnull, dockGnull, and dockHnull cells. Although Dictyostelium Docks do not contain the conventional DH domain for Rac activation, we show that the DockerB domain (Docker domain of DockB protein) interacts with RaclA in the nucleotide free state in vitro. The DockerA domain (Docker domain of DockA protein) preferentially interacts with RacH and RacL. Expression of Rac1A in dockBnull background can effectively rescue the defect of phagocytosis. These findings show that Dictyostelium Docks most likely act as RacGEF's involved in a P13K independent chemotaxis signalling pathway and also play important roles in the regulation of endocytosis in Dictyostelium. In this study we also investigated the role of Elmo1 in the regulation of cell behavior. The elmo1null cells grow slowly in the axenic medium and are defective in chemotaxis, macropinocytosis and phagocytosis. The phenotype of elmo1null cells is extremely similar to that of dockBnull cells. Cells of the elmo1/dockBnull double mutant did not show a much more severe phenotype than either parent stain (elmo1null or dockBnull) by itself. These data strongly support the idea that in Dictyostelium Elmo1 and DockB are involved in same signalling pathways. Our data thus strongly suggest that Dock/Elmo complexes function as RacGEF's during chemotaxis and endocytosis in Dictyostelium.

Seeking to validate the Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM) of Persuasion for the online advertising context, a laboratory experiment utilizing 240 undergraduates was conducted at a southeastern university. The quality of banner advertisement contents--product endorser (spokesperson) and arguments (headlines)--were manipulated testing the variables' effect on click-through and attitude toward the advertisement for groups with high and low levels of product category involvement. Exploring a replica of a popular music website, participants were exposed to the test banners on the site's homepage. Due to the limited number of click-throughs, the relationship between the independent variables and click-through could not be established. However, as hypothesized for the low involvement condition, source liking predicted participants' attitude toward the banner advertisements. In the high involvement condition, neither source liking nor argument strength was associated with attitude. Because the test product category--sport drinks--skewed low involvement, a follow-up study should select a high involvement product category to explore such condition more effectively.M.A.

Resumo: Esta pesquisa propõe a análise da construção do corpo de Evita no romance Santa Evita, de Tomás Eloy Martínez, tendo como foco a decisiva atuação narrativa baseada nas experiências recuperadas tanto do corpo vivo quanto do corpo embalsamado de Evita, presentes nesse romance. O escritor argentino reconstrói, com a ajuda dos diferentes elementos narrativos, um corpo vivo em que a vida adquire poder, mas, também, um corpo morto com um poder ainda maior. Assim, a incidência do corpo na História argentina, apresentada no romance, demarca as rotas sociais na imagem corporal de Evita para filtrá-la, através da literatura, pelas lembranças das testemunhas que a conheceram em diferentes momentos. A construção do corpo é concebida, no romance, pelas diferentes estratégias narrativas que o autor usa para lograr seu propósito. Assim, o objetivo desta dissertação é pesquisar as diversas construções literárias que o autor faz: primeiro explorando a construção de um corpo vivo para chegar à construção de um corpo embalsamado depois de muito tempo. Abstract: This research proposes the analysis of Evita's body building in Tomás Eloy Martínez's novel, Santa Evita, focusing on the narrative decisive action based on the experiences retrieved from both, the alive and the embalmed Evita's body, present in this novel. The Argentine writer reconstructs it helped by different narrative elements, an alive body full of power, but also a dead body with an even greater power. Thus, the incidence of the body in Argentine history presented in the novel marks the social routes in body image of Evita to filter it through literature, the memories of witnesses who knew her at different times. The body construction is designed, in the novel, by the different narratives strategies that the author uses to achieve his purpose, therefore, the aim of this work is to research the different literary constructions made by the author, first exploring the construction of an alive body to get the construction of an embalmed body after a long time. Previous issue date: 2009-08-07The thought of Eloy de Souza is studied (1873-1959), that left a significant intellectual production in the journalistic, cultural and politicial scope on the Northeast and the dilemmas of the droughts. Through the method of content analysis, his journalistic and literary speech is investigated, looking at to understand the elaboration and/ or reiteration of categories, of representations and of values; it is verified how was conceived the constitution of the political thought and which is it?s principal slopes; the parliamentary speech, present in his interventions is analyzed in plenary session, participation in commissions and in his projects, particularly in the thematic area of the droughts. It is verified that his work is built in a political and ideological perspective inserting the bourgeoisie landowner's interests and Northeastern commercial and of it?s political strata, inside the historical block of agro-industry power that has as irradiation focus the area of the coffee represented politically by the oligarchies person from S?o Paulo and Minas Gerais. In that sense, two crucial categories emerge: the droughts and the country, as the Northeastern and Brazilian man's synthesis, with their resistance capacity and adaptation, and their creative effort in an adverse enviroment, that Eloy de Souza started to insert in his political speech. However, the vision that he passes of the "country suffer", expresses a certain idealization of a lifestyle that corresponds to a traditional dominance, that he want?s to be reproduced. Although it looked for the solution for the drought through the modernization of the economy by the adoption of advanced methods as the irrigation, his concern went back to the conservation of the economical and cultural political hegemony of that elite. Thus, his inquietude with the process of integration of the subordinate sections, justifies his consensual speech, harmonic as organic intellectual of the agrarian-commercial bourgeoisie of the Brazilian Northeast

Hylurgopinus rufipes, the native elm bark beetle (NEBB), is the major vector of Dutch elm disease (DED) in Manitoba. Dissections of American elms (Ulmus americana), in the same year as DED symptoms appeared in them, showed that NEBB constructed brood galleries in which a generation completed development, and adult NEBB carrying DED spores would probably leave the newly-symptomatic trees. Rapid removal of freshly diseased trees, completed by mid-August, will prevent spore-bearing NEBB emergence, and is recommended. The relationship between presence of NEBB in stained branch sections and the total number of NEEB per tree could be the basis for methods to prioritize trees for rapid removal.
Numbers and densities of overwintering NEBB in elm trees decreased with increasing height, with >70% of the population overwintering above ground doing so in the basal 15 cm. Substantial numbers of NEBB overwinter below the soil surface, and could be unaffected by basal spraying. Mark-recapture studies showed that frequency of spore bearing by overwintering beetles averaged 45% for the wild population and 2% for marked NEBB released from disease-free logs. Most NEBB overwintered close to their emergence site, but some traveled ≥4.8 km before wintering.
Studies comparing efficacy of insecticides showed that chlorpyrifos gave 100% control of overwintering NEBB for two years as did bifenthrin: however, permethrin and carbaryl provided transient efficacy. NEBB showed a gradual increase in development rate with increasing constant temperature. Lipid content of overwintering NEBB was higher in late fall than in mid-winter, which might show that depletion of fat reserves could jeopardize survival, but could be a result of conversion to cryoprotectants.
