Abstract:
Millimeter and submillimeter wavelength images of massive star-forming regions are uncovering the natal material distribution and revealing the complexities of their circumstellar environments on size scales from parsecs to 100’s of AU. Progress in these areas has been slower than for low-mass stars because massive stars are more distant, and because they are gregarious siblings with different evolutionary stages that can co-exist even within a core. Nevertheless, observational goals for the near future include the characterization of an early evolutionary sequence for massive stars, determination if the accretion process and formation sequence for massive stars is similar to that of low-mass stars, and understanding of the role of triggering events in massive star formation.

Abstract:
New, commercially available, automatic, code-generation tools are used in teaching and lab exercises to progress from controller design, to simulation, and finally to implementation on mechanical hardware. An embedded computing system consists of a dedicated, digital, electronic-processor that controls a system that interacts with the environment. Case studies highlighting a force-feedback joystick and motor servo control with encoder feedback are presented to illustrate laboratory exercises that teach mechanical engineering students hardware-in-the-loop control system design. Using these software tools, design iterations and multiple controllers are quickly simulated and downloaded to the actual hardware.

Abstract:
Abstract Alvis is a modelling language defined for the design and a formal verification of embedded systems. An Alvis model is a system of agents that usually run concurrently, communicate one with another, compete for shared resources etc. Due to the fact that an embedded system usually collects inputs that come from its environment and provides outputs that go to the environment it is necessary to provide a mechanism to describe such a communication. In contrast to another formal languages used to model embedded systems it is not necessary, using Alvis, to design such an environment as a part of a model. The paper deals with the problem of modelling a communication with an embedded system environment with Alvis.

Abstract:
Nowadays embedded systems are used in a broad range of domains such as avionics, space, automotive, mobile, domestic appliances etc. Sophisticated software determines the quality of embedded systems and requires high-qualified experts for software development. Software becomes the main assert of embedded systems that is valuable to retain in changing computing platforms in embedded systems evolution. Computing platforms for embedded systems became multicore processors and SoC, they can change in the embedded system lifetime that could be long (dozen of years for an automobile and airplane). It requires software porting to new platforms as a regular process. Many tools and approaches allow developing of software for domain area experts, but mainly for general-purpose computing systems. In this paper the authors present the complex technology and tools that allows involving domain experts in software development for embedded systems. The proposed technology has various aspects and abilities that can be used to build verifiable and portable software for a wide range of embedded platforms.

Abstract:
Different classes of problems on the embedded systems market and its needs make manufacturers of embedded systems to design heterogeneous many/multi core hardware platforms. Such platforms includes dozens of different cores: CPU, GPU, DSP, FPGA etc. That makes them incredibly hard to program, especially in case when domain experts are involved in the development process. Usually, domain expert has knowledge in his domain area, but does not fully understand the specificity of programming for heterogeneous manycore platforms. In this article, we propose the complex technology and tools that allows involving domain experts in software development for embedded systems. Abstract:
Among numerous embedded platforms, NetFPGA provides developers with a freely programmable FPGA component to design custom functionalities in networking. However, most hardware projects are developed based on reference designs without embedded operating system. For hybrid developments on multi-layers, there will be some difficulties to apply. On the other hand, due to the limited resources on embedded platform, both performance and flexibility need to be concerned on implementation. And for networking processing, it is quite difficult to adjust control parameters without software environment. Therefore, this paper proposes an integrated architecture using PowerPC processor on NetFPGA and embedded Linux operating system on NetFPGA platform. This not only provides developers with an environment for software execution which added more flexibility, but also enhanced the system to provide more applied possibilities on development.

Abstract:
Information literacy instruction in various countries has expanded in a variety of ways. At universities, it has mainly taken the form of credit-based courses, lectures, and embedded instruction. While European and American universities carry out more embedded instruction, universities in China focus more on credit-based courses and lectures, leaving embedded instruction in an exploratory stage. This paper is a preliminary study of a research project that aims to investigate the department-based, embedded information literacy instruction among the libraries of 42 "Double-First Class" universities in China. Using East China Normal University Library as an example, this paper discusses the teaching mode, teaching philosophy, teaching design, teaching methods and contents in order to explore how embedded information literacy instruction can make use of the mobile Internet platform. The specific areas to be examined include teaching resources, enhancing classroom interactions, and after-class feed-pushing as part of teaching support. Finally, some recommendations are put forward for the extension and expansion of embedded information literacy instruction.

Abstract:
With the development of social economy and the improvement of material level, people are paying more and more attention to their own health, and they are also constantly improving their fitness awareness. As far as the current sports equipment is concerned, the boring exercise methods can no longer satisfy people’s pursuit of higher quality fitness exercises. The embedding of the distributed virtual environment can incorporate its perceptual, immersive, and interactive characteristics, which increases the realization of multiuser interactive behavior in the field of sports equipment in the virtual scene. Therefore, this paper proposes the research and development of basketball sports equipment embedded system based on distributed virtual environment. First of all, this article adopts the literature method to learn the application of distributed virtual environment and embedded system in depth and, secondly, designs the embedded system architecture of basketball sports equipment suitable for distributed virtual environment and the software and hardware framework of the embedded system. Finally, the performance, delay comparison, system optimization test, and other aspects of the embedded system are analyzed. The average delay of interactive functions of embedded systems based on distributed virtual environment is 1.4 min, which saves 4 min compared with traditional interactive methods. And, the throughput rate of the system has also been greatly improved. The research on the embedded system of sports equipment based on the distributed virtual environment proposed in this paper will be beneficial to the development of society and economy, and it can also help more people to enrich the way of sports and enhance the fun of sports.

Abstract:
Abstract The goal of this research is to investigate the impacts of a stably stratified layer embedded within a neutrally stratified environment on the behavior of density currents in an effort to extend the environmental regimes examined by Liu and Moncrieff. Such environments frequently support severe weather events. To accomplish this goal, nonhydrostatic numerical model experiments are performed in which the strength and height of the embedded stably stratified layer within a neutrally stratified environment are varied. The 1-km-deep stable layer base is varied between 1, 2, and 3 km AGL. Additionally, the strength of the stable layer is systematically varied between Brunt–Väisälä frequencies of 0.006, 0.012, and 0.018 s−1, following the methodology of Liu and Moncrieff. The model and grid setup are also similar to that of Liu and Moncrieff, utilizing the Arakawa C grid, leapfrog advection, a Robert–Asselin filter, and grid spacing of 100 and 50 m in the horizontal and vertical directions, respectively. Results show that the height of the density current decreases and the propagation speed increases with stronger and lower stable layers, provided that the stable layer is sufficiently thin so as to not act as a gravity wave ducting layer. As the strength of the stable layer increases and the height of this layer decreases, the horizontal pressure gradient driving the density current increases, resulting in faster propagation speeds. Such results have implications for cold pool propagation into more stable environments.

Abstract:
Embedded software is used to control the functions of mechanical and physical devices by dedicated digital signal processor and computers. Nowadays, heterogeneous and collaborative embedded software systems are widely adopted to engage the physical world. To make such software extremely reliable, very efficient and highly flexible, component-based embedded software development can be employed for the complex embedded systems, especially those based on object-oriented (OO) approaches. In this paper, we introduce a component-based embedded software framework and the features it inherits. We propose a quality assurance (QA) model for component-based embedded software development, which covers both the component QA and the system QA as well as their interactions. Furthermore, we propose a generic quality assessment environment for component-based embedded systems: ComPARE. ComPARE can be used to assess real-life off-the-shelf components and to evaluate and validate the models selected for their evaluation. The overall component-based embedded systems can then be composed and analyzed seamlessly.

Abstract:
School is a central arena for a wide amount of emotions. Previous research on academic emotions has, however, mainly focused on achievement, engagement and teaching, situated in classroom. The social embeddedness, as well as different learning environments of school, continue to be neglected in the research literature. Our study focuses on examining socially embedded academic emotions in school, including emotions described in peer interactions and in teacher-pupil interactions. Furthermore, the aim of the study was to investigate socially embedded academic emotions situated in both informal and formal learning environments. In the study, we combine both qualitative and quantitative methods by using picture tasks and questionnaires. In total, 146 sixth and eighth graders participated in the study. The results of our study showed that the interaction between teachers and peers is a central arena for pupils’ described socially embedded academic emotions in school. Furthermore, our study emphasizes the role of an informal learning environment as an important setting for socially embedded academic emotions. Practical and theoretical implications of these findings are discussed.
