Psychology has made, and continues to make, a significant contribution to the discipline area of education. Since one of the main aims of education concerns student learning – which is an indisputably psychological phenomenon – we argue that the emerging research agenda of embodied cognition has much to offer educational practitioners, researchers, and/or policy-makers. Although embodied cognition is still in its infancy, the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary nature of the literature provides some thought-provoking recommendations to enhance educational practice or practices, which in tu

This article explores the significance of the posture of full prostration by the Maskil that appears uniquely in association with him in the Hodayot. Using theoretical frameworks from ritual studies and embodied cognition, as well as traditional philological work, I argue that the Maskil’s prostration summons the cultural memory of Moses as chief intercessor. This embodied technique serves not only to form the self of the leader in relation to the Yaḥad, but shapes the community that worships with him in the gathered assembly.

This study uses a multimodal interactional conversation analytic approach to explore a two-and-a-half-year-old child’s spontaneous participation in the activity of telling personal experiences in the context of everyday bilingual mother–child interactions. The selected data draw from a video-ethnographic study of children in Swedish families with Russian-speaking mothers. The analysis focuses on a young child’s storytelling activities as co-constructed interactional practices, calling attention to the role of embodied performances, affective alignments and footings as central for the tellabili

Drawing upon 62 participant-produced visual diaries and accompanying interview narratives, this article explores the significance of everyday body work for people in mid- to later life. Departing from previous work that has explored the intersections of gender and age in relation to a single embodied practice, this article highlights the salience of a myriad of bodily practices for the everyday ways that gender and ageing identities are constituted, specifically hair styling, beauty work, clothing, and dieting. We argue that women negotiate a gendered pressure to age well, which results in an

China has committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2060, primarily focusing on reducing carbon intensity. Understanding the regional embodied carbon emissions is critical for managing carbon efficiency and carbon equity in this process. Using the input-output and SBM-DEA models, this article first calculates China's regional embodied carbon emissions. The results reveal substantial carbon transfers between China's different regions. Therefore, designing reduction pathways solely based on production-based carbon emissions raises fairness concerns. To address this, this article employs the SB

The purpose of this study is to explore music lesson plans for elementary schools based on embodied cognition. To this end, the main concepts of embodied cognition theory were reviewed, and principles and models for music lesson design were developed to propose plans applicable in elementary schools. Embodied cognition is a theory emphasizing that the human body, sensory experiences, and bodily movements influence thinking, emotion, and cognition, offering profound insights and theoretical foundations for the intentional use and role of the body in music education. The article analyzes the role of theories of embodied cognition for the development of emotion research. The role and position of emotions changed as philosophy developed. In classical and modern European philosophy, the idea of the “primacy of reason” prevailed over emotions and physicality, emotions and affective life were described as low-ranking phenomena regarding cognitive processes or were completely eliminated as an unknown quantity. In postmodern philosophy, attention focuses on physicality and sensuality, which are rated higher than rational principle, mind and intelligence. Within t

Based on an ethnographic study, the research finds that tattooists adhere to notions of non-conformity, unconventional artistry and professionalism. We locate these meanings within the cultural values and aesthetics of ‘cool’ as an admired set of attributes and displays which enable tattooists to manage some of the tensions of the work. Combining Bourdieu’s concept of habitus with Gagliardi’s notion of landscape, we develop the idea of ‘bodyscape’ to further an integrated understanding of body work as
