Outcrossing, wind-pollinated members of the Pinaceae have high self-pollination rates yet produce few selfed seedlings. How are selfs selectively eliminated? Barriers to selfing have long been considered to be (i) avoidance of self-pollen capture, (ii) competition via simple polyembryony, and (iii) lower viability of selfed embryos. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of in ovo administration of Eurycoma longifolia (Tongkat Ali) extract (TAE) on the survivability and pre hatch development of chicken embryo. A dose response study of 0.1 mg, 1 mg and 10 mg TAE/100g egg on embryo survivability during first 5 days of incubation showed that the 0.1 to 1mg exposures had no effect on embryo survivability, and the lethal dose to kill 50% (LD50) was at around 10 mg. Crested newts exhibit a balanced lethal system which causes development to abort in 50% of tailbud embryos. En las últimas décadas, la nanotecnología ha emergido como un área de investigación que está encontrando aplicaciones en múltiples campos. El mercado actual incluye nanomateriales que proporcionan grandes ventajas sobre los materiales en su forma convencional, una de éstas, su mayor área de contacto, lo que los hace ideales como sustancias catalíticas, mejorando este tipo de procesos con la consecuente reducción de insumos. Dentro de los nanomateriales comúnmente utilizados, las nanopartículas de oro se han aplicado principalmente en biomedicina, salud y belleza, sector automotriz y electrónica. Sin embargo, el uso cada vez más generalizado de nanopartículas no va aparejado con estudios sobre el impacto ambiental que conlleva la disposición final de sus residuos, especialmente en medios acuáticos, destino habitual de muchas sustancias utilizadas en procesos industriales, los cuales han sido poco estudiados. La presente investigación aborda el efecto que tienen las nanopartículas de oro con recubrimiento de quitosano sobre Daphnia pulex, microorganismos generadores primarios en la cadena trófica. Como resultado fundamental de este trabajo se estableció una dosis letal media (EC50) de 0.5721 mg/L de Au en este tipo de microorganismos, este estudio confirma así la importancia de llevar a cabo más investigación sobre la toxicidad de nanopartículas funcionalizadas, especialmente de oro, en organismos acuáticos microscópicos que son la base de muchas cadenas tróficas en ríos y lagos.

El escritor Fernando Pessoa ha llamado la atención de los psicoanalistas, más por su heteronimia que por su obra literaria. Colette Soler en el estudio que le dedica, titulado “Pessoa la esfinge”, denomina a este fenómeno como “ego reventado”. Sin embargo, es difícil separar ambas cosas, ya que cada uno de sus heterónimos tuvo primero una existencia de letra y, sólo después, una vida de anécdotas y relaciones. Como sucede con frecuencia con algunos genios, el portugués fue escasamente reconocido durante su corta existencia pero, desde hace algunas décadas, “el baúl Pessoa” reúne a sus estudiosos en una suerte de Iglesia, congresos y encuentros internacionales donde sus fieles realizan una exégesis de sus versos y de los pasajes de la vida que, aunque discreta, fue una vida pública. Es fácil advertir las similitudes con el caso de James Joyce, quien advertía sarcástico a los lectores del Ulysses: “He planteado tantos enigmas y quebraderos de cabeza que tendré ocupados por siglos a los profesores, que discurrirán sobre todo lo que he querido decir”.

Abstract:

El presente capitulo tiene como objetivo presentar los resultados de la revisión conceptual del amor y el amor por la marca. El personaje central de grandes obras de la literatura ha sido el amor, plasmado desde lo imposible a lo consumado, desde lo terrenal hasta lo fantástico, desde lo sublime a lo pasional, tatuado en el imaginario colectivo a través de escenas emblemáticas del cine, canciones inmortalizadas cuyas letras reafirman: “todo lo que necesitamos es amor” demostrando en este tema su relación con el ser humano. Sin embargo, la polaridad en la que siempre se mueve hace complejo conceptualizarlo, ésta es una de las razones que busca el presente estudio, concerniente a la recopilación de investigaciones realizadas en psicología, antropología y sociología, con el fin de precisar la forma como las personas experimentan este sentimiento. El método utilizado fue una revisión bibliográfica alrededor del concepto del amor y su relación con el amor por la marca; en bases de datos como SCOPUS, Scielo, Latindex y Proquest, estas bases de datos se seleccionan por su reconocimiento y uso en investigación, la selección de artículos y escritos académicos que se han dedicado a describir el concepto desde la psicología, antropología y sociología. Algunos de los resultados encontrados en la psicología se asocian especialmente a sentimientos y emociones. En cuanto a la sociología el concepto está relacionado con la forma de seleccionar a la pareja y el amor a la familia. Desde la antropología se reconoce el amor como pasión del alma, un sentimiento del corazón, un estado, una relación que trasciende. Adicionalmente, se identifica para el caso colombiano y Latinoamericano una oportunidad de estudio el tema de amor y amor a la marca, dado que quienes más investigaciones desarrollan son países como Estados Unidos y el Reino Unido.
