Abstract:
The present study aimed to correlate the Z-scoring system to outcomes in in vitro fertilisation (IVF) cycles performed in conjunction with preimplantation genetic diagnosis. In 178 cycles, a total of 468 pronuclear embryos was scored prospectively using the Z score before culture and biopsy on Day 3 to detect chromosomes 13, 16, 18, 21, 22, X and Y. The results showed significant differences between Z1 and Z4 scoring embryos, with Z1 giving an increased biopsy rate (83.3% v. 51.1%), embryo quality (≥fair: 83.3% v. 57.8%) and embryo growth rate (≥six cells: 87.0% v. 44.4%). SummaryThe aim of this study was to describe a system for embryo morphology scoring at the morula stage and to determine the efficiency of this model in selecting viable embryos for transfer. In total, 519 embryos from 122 patients undergoing intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) were scored retrospectively on day 4 according to the grading system proposed in this article. Two separate quality scores were assigned to each embryo in relation to the grade of compaction and fragmentation and their developmental fate was then observed on days 5 and 6. Secondly, the prediction value of this scori

Over the last 30 years the process of in vitro fertilisation (IVF) has evolved considerably, yet the efficiency of this treatment remains relatively poor. The principal challenge faced by doctors and embryologists is the identification of the embryo with the greatest potential for producing a child. Current methods of embryo viability assessment provide only a rough guide to potential. In order to improve the odds of a successful pregnancy it is typical to transfer more than one embryo to the uterus. However, this often results in multiple pregnancies (twins, triplets, etc), which are associat

In assisted reproduction, a successful outcome is closely associated with the selection of potentially implantable. culture has its own merits that it can possibly eliminate the selection of non-viable embryos, can mimic physiology with better embryo-uterine and the extended culture can also assess the embryos post-embryonic activation. Scoring of characteristics can also aid in single embryo transfers (SET), reducing the risks of multiple pregnancies. The morphological assessment can serve as a non-invasive tool for better prediction of the outcome in IVF. The two important morphological para

There is a significant variance in live birth rates among clinics nationwide. The goal of this thesis is make comparisons of embryo quality among clinics and understand these differences. This analysis focuses on the stage between egg retrieval and embryo transfer. Because the currently accepted embryo scoring methods are not directly proportional to performance, a new scoring methodology is proposed and applied. Data provided by the Society for Assisted

Infertility is a widespread problem around the world, although the available treatment options constantly improve through research and methodological development. A common treatment option mainly for biologically caused infertility is in-vitro fertilization, where in a menstrual cycle multiple oocytes are stimulated to mature and are then fertilized in a laboratory. This often results in multiple good quality embryos which can be cryopreserved through vitrification and used in a later cycle to increase the success chance of the treatment. The purpose of this pilot study was to evaluate vitrifi
