Full textUp to now, it is not been possible to grasp the existence, personality, writing and creative methods of a Breton author from the past centuries. However, this is what we are aiming at for one of them, Jean Conan, relying on the writings that have been kept. The point is to know whether this goodman weaver (Le Braz) is nothing but a copyist (Dottin), a second rate 'man-who-writes', in spite of a total 29000 lines that are still with us, or whether his writings reveal literary qualities, an actual originality in inspiration and creation. As a matter of fact, Conan is part of a context: other men of humble origins wrote about their campaigns ; numerous anonymous clerks elaborated Breton tragedies. Conan continues this tradition of drama, by his language, the topics he chooses, the existence of some characters, and by the way he writes, both poetical and dramatic. Yet, Conan never behaves as a servile copyist ; his two tragedies were recomposed: he writes a Louis Eunius of his own, his version of Genevieve de Brabant is a synthesis of the french record and the scholarly Breton play ; his Bue a sant ar voan and his Jerusalem delivred will be attempts at dramatisation. As for Avanturio, they were an authentic work of fiction, he is altogether the author, narrator an hero, posing for posterity with solemnity and self satisfaction. So, conan's heritage is an original work, of various subjects but of a common style ; his akwardness may be recurrent, and the French-like vocabulary is excessive ; but his works reveal a man who feeds his writings from his own experiences and feeds himself from his heroes, more realistic than his surroundings. Conan is unique, an exception, an incongruity: a man of humble origine who writes in Breton language! May he find in each of us the dear reader he expected ; Jean Conan stands as a true creator, an authentic popular writer

Full textThe starting point of this research is the observation that French speakers writing in English in personal or professional contexts still encounter grammatical difficulties, even at intermediate to advanced levels. The first tools they can reach for to correct those errors, automatic grammar checkers, do not offer corrections for a large number of the errors produced by French-speaking users of English, especially because those tools are rarely designed for L2 users. We propose to identify the difficulties encountered by these speakers through the detection of errors in a representative corpus, and to create a linguistic model of errors and corrections. The model is the result of the thorough linguistic analysis of the phenomena at stake, based on grammatical information available in reference grammars, corpus studies, and the analysis of erroneous segments. The validity of the use of linguistic methods is established through the implementation of detection and correction rules in a functional platform, followed by the evaluation of the results of the application of those rules on L1 and L2 English corpora

Full textGeorges Clemenceau belongs to History and le Père La Victoire (Father Victory) is forever etched in the French national memory. Yet, next to his public political action, Georges Clemenceau had a genuine underground writing activity which is little or badly known. It seemed important to us to bring to light those written works which range from novel to essay to biography to play, to wonder about the genesis and the quality of his writings and to try to understand why those written works the output of a man who had become a myth met with so little in their days and have remained unknown. To this end, we have first endeavoured to bring to the fore the importance of the act of writing in Georges Clemenceau's life and to analyse how his continuous writing made its way from journalism to literature after the determining experience of translating the works of the philosopher Stuart Mill and his stay in the United States of America as a correspondent of Le Temps at the end of the Civil War. In the second part, in the light of the texts, we have tried to determine the transition from social discourse a sterilising ground for literary creation to more fruitful narratives of fiction. This reversal in perspectives which took place with the Chinese-style play Le Voile du Bonheur was not spontaneous in Georges Clemenceau and he had to overcome strong intellectual as well as philosophical reluctance. In actual fact, as a doctor and a positivist, Clemenceau mistrusted imagination. In spite of that, his writings slowly matured around the "I", ending in the very distinctive introspection of the last comprehensive appraisal that Au Soir de la Pensée is. In the third part, we have defined what Georges Clemenceau's literary universe was by bringing it together with the Romantic Movement which he acknowledged and challenged, and by focusing on the study dedicated to Claude Monet's painting Les Nympheas which established him in the art of writing. Finally, we have analysed his contemporaries' reactions and criticisms to demonstrate how Clemenceau became cut off from readers and how, to some extent, the politician and the orator smothered the writer that deep down he undoubtedly was

Full textThe diachronic study of the writings in French of Cioran shows that the dynamism of this work has for manner source to write. The ideal universe is statistical. The manner to say is in movement to meet different challenges. The willingness to impose itself on the French cultural scene pushes the "Wog" to put an end to his lyricism. The frivolity of playing with ideas to create unusual forms is the consequence. It is the antithesis of the philosophical writing whose primary purpose to be the understanding of the essence of things. After the failure of Syllogismes, Cioran realized that he bet badly on the frivolity of the French people. From The Temptation to exist, it seeks to create a relatively tracking text. A skeptic cannot endure this chore than through fiction. The drought of abstract concepts is eased thanks to a metaphorical language. The narrative breaks with the main processes of philosophical writing as deduction, induction, analysis, synthesis and arguing. The text evolves by semantic contiguity. The conflict between truth and literature becomes less intense. The old Cioran, in prey to the dropper of the old age, suffer of more power to appear. To resort to its daily experiences or read passages is a source of verbal matter. The scenes of daily life refresh the dry conscience by exclusive research idea. The quote participates the same search for concrete. The daily life has a cognitive value than the philosophical reasoning. Similarly, the writings of spiritual teachers, mystics, poets and writers are more penetrating than philosophical work. Literature and truth are reconciled

Most of his readers has only read his best-seller "on the road" and just know this dimension. This thesis offers on unknown prospect of his work. Kerouac gives evidence it is nowadays completely impossible to be a "real" american man. But writing about this topic does not mean repeating the first commercial success. At the present time, the writer wanders about in the ghostly usa, haunted with remorses as he goes on writing, which means telling lies. Dialectics of motion (journey, truth) and of immobility (writing, lie) is therefore the key of this "wild parade" kerouac is describing us in his novels. As regard the formal aspect, kerouac's work may be considered as an open system. The experiment of wandering gives it periodically sense. This work is unable to be hardened to a definite style, and then foretells postmodernity which is characterized by the crisis of statements
