Abstract:
The analysis of online encyclopedias in the Ukrainian information space is done in this paper. It is investigated that online encyclopedias are divided into two large groups: digital analogues of printed editions, for example the online Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine, and independent encyclopedic web projects, among which the most popular is Wikipedia (one of the most visited sites in the Ukrainian information space). Despite the fact that electronic encyclopedias have a number of advantages, to refuse to print classical editions there are no grounds. For the development of the Ukrainian information space, it is important that any encyclopedia project aimed at making a printed product is also presented in an electronic version.

Abstract:
Reforming of education requires updating its content and methodological components, including didactic toolkits. In a broad sense, the proposed study is concerned with the design and implementation of a wide range of educational tools in the educational process. In a narrow sense, it identifies the opportunities and prospects of using encyclopedic online resources as a didactic toolkit. These issues are covered on the example of the e-version of The Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine. The idea of using electronic encyclopedias in the educational process is not new. Researchers suggest that thematic encyclopedias are very important in the teaching of certain subjects. The introduction of encyclopedias into teaching is a contemporary trend initiated by the publishers of the world’s largest encyclopedias. For example, the popular Encyclopedia Britannica has recently become available in three online versions: for primary school students (Britannica Kids), middle school students (Britannica Students), and high school students (Britannica Scholars). This study demonstrates that the Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine a) can be a platform for providing encyclopedic knowledge in a subject; b) can be a didactic tool that increases the effectiveness of learning; c) can be used as a source of information for in-depth study of topics in various subjects. Thus, electronic encyclopedias (in particular the online-version of the Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine) provide significant opportunities for successful study of educational material, focusing on the most important aspects of educational topics and creating conditions for systematization and generalization of information, as well as actively involving students in self-study, arousing their interest in learning and generally increasing their motivation.

Abstract:
The research objective was to assess the information potential of reference publications on the history of entrepreneurship in the pre-revolutionary Siberia. Pre-revolutionary, Soviet, and post-Soviet scientists published various encyclopedias and reference books on the history of trade, merchants, and entrepreneurship in Siberia in the second half of the XIX – early XX centuries. The reference literature of each period has its own characteristic features. For instance, The Brief Encyclopedia of the History of Merchants and Commerce of Siberia and The Encyclopedic Dictionary of the History of Merchants and Commerce of Siberia are very unusual. The dictionary with its encyclopedic form of presentation is currently the most convenient and popular variant. Directories and encyclopedias reflect the era they belonged to and thus can provide valuable information on the time period. The dictionaries under analysis appeared to contain biographies of people engaged in entrepreneurial activity, definitions of entrepreneurial activities, descriptions of rural settlements, cities, fairs, etc. The study of reference publications significantly expands the existing ideas about the nature of the business development, trade, and economy of Siberia. However, the related historiography still needs further studies.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the issues of reflection of the intellectual culture of the Enlightenment in popular science discourse, represented in the activities of encyclopedic educators. The relevance of the research topic is due to the study of the views of the scientist, which influenced the value coordinates of popular science knowledge of the society of that time. The research methodology is based on a narrative approach in a historiographic perspective, as well as a culture-anthropocentric method that reveals the biography of a scientist as a manifestation of the socio-cultural processes of the era. The use of these methods determined the novelty of the research as a vector of movement of research thought, modeling the phenomenon of professionalism, since it contributes to a deeper understanding of the specifics of the professional picture of the scientist’s world. The dynamics of the views of the French educator Louis de Jaucourt is revealed, the degree of his contribution to the formation of the French Encyclopedia (Encyclopédie, ou Dictionnaire raisonné des sciences, des arts et des métiers) is determined. It is proved that moral satisfaction from participation in the creation of an encyclopedia, due to the creativity of his personality, has become significant for the scientist. The research material was the articles by L. de Jaucourt posted on the website of the first edition of the encyclopedia. Analysis of the articles shows that their pragmatics are aimed at trans-mitting information to an educated reader in popular science discourse.

Thesis, Paris 4, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015PA040091.

Abstract:
Dialogued works, hybrid in form and presenting a variety of tone, make their appearance around the year 1585, in the Contes et discours d’Eutrapel by Noël du Fail, Cholières’ Matinées and Apresdisnées, and Serées, by Poitou-native printer and bookseller, Guillaume Bouchet. Inspired by a potentiality offered by Boccaccio’s Decameron, the authors place the accent on the practice known as “devis”, or conversations that are started up in a storytelling mode. These “contes et discours bigarrez” alternate snatches of novellas, pleasant anecdotes and teasing mockery with more serious material, including historical notes, edifying apophthegms and legal developments. In a curious mélange, the art of “rencontrer” (being witty) is offset by showy erudition. At the crossroads of the history of literary forms and sociability, the notions of “facétie” and “devis” enlighten the singularity of these texts, in both poetic and social terms. The genre of humanistic witticism is increasingly integrated, while philosophical dialogue gives way to agile conversation, which redefines the relation between joking and learning. In describing the reactions of the persons addressed, these texts also invite research into the sociability and the civility codes of the day. At a time when the kingdom is rife with civil wars, these facetious or witty conversations are original models for coexistence, where freedom of speech, playful clashes and paradoxical agreements play leading roles. Part urbane, part countrified, between courteous and bawdy, an important turning point in the history of conversation is reached here, on the eve of the Grand Siècle

Wu, Huey-fang, and 吳蕙芳. "Popular encyclopedia for daily use and its reflection of life in Ming-Ch''ing China--a case study of Wanpao Ch''uanshu." Thesis, 2000. http://ndltd.ncl.edu.tw/handle/40976186400165651320.

Full text
Abstract:
博士
國立政治大學
歷史學系
88
Since 60’s, owing to the inspiration of the New History, the daily life and culture of the common people has become the focus of attention. The history of social life and culture along with their development has become an important issue in the research of New Social History. However, as for the present results, such methodology is adopted that almost all works of life are plainly presented under the background of specific time and space, in which the sources either come from such literary works as hua-ben, novels, pao-chuan, operas, etc., or religious material like shan-shu, ching-chuan, kung-kuo ko, ying-zhi wen, and so on. This thesis is meant to use the popular encyclopedia for daily use, especially Wanpao Ch''uanshu , the information of which is definitely all-inclusive,as the primary source of research. Such a popular encyclopedia is like a modern almanac for daily use, something like a miniature encyclopedia for eference in all areas of family life. The way it is edited makes it more close to the traditional encyclopedia than calendar. The earliest encyclopedia for daily use arose in South-Sung, and it was not until the later period in the Ming dynasty that it was developed into the popular encyclopedia for daily use, and since then flourished. In the Ch''ing dynasty, such a kind of book is called Wanpao Ch''uanshu , the tradition of which is a popular historical material full of vitality. The subject of this thesis is Wanpao Ch''uanshu. Hopefully, through the understanding of the origin, development and evolution of various versions, a clear picture of the social life in the Ming and the Ch''ing dynasties(the 16th through 19th centuries)will be attained. The conclusion of this thesis is as follows: To begin with, the popular encyclopedia for daily use in the Ming and the Ch''ing dynasties reflects four aspects, that is, the basic way of acculturation, the learning of practical knowledge and skills, the experience of social activities and the cultivation of amusements. We can thus say that the content of Wanpao Ch''uanshu covers the four levels of people''s ordinary life─the living environment, material life, social life and spiritual life. At the same time, in accordance with the content and publication of Wanpao Ch''uanshu and some other related aspects, we can see some features of daily life in that period of time: first, the popularity and secularization of Confucianism; second, the flourish of ying-yang wu-hsing thought, in mixture with Buddhism and Taoism; third, the cross-circulation of the culture between the intellect and the common people; fourth, the correspondence of popular culture. What is more, the development of the popular encyclopedia for daily use tended to become more and more simplified and uniform. The reason for its being simplified is that the focus has changed from the all- inclusiveness of the content, being educational as well as practical, in the Ming dynasty, to the popular and purely practical purpose of books in the Ch''ing dynasty. And the gradual process of being uniform seems to show that the society of the common people during the period between the late Ming dynasty and the late Ch''ing dynasty is gradually being silenced and even getting rigid. It was not until the invasion of some power from outside that the society of the common people was stirred and thus developed in a new dimension, and this situation was carried on until after the establishment of the Republic of China. The development of this situation can be roughly divided into four different stages: the late Ming period, the early Ch''ing period, the late Ch''ing period, the end of the Ch''ing dynasty, and can be accordingly inspected.
