AbstractBackgroundTotally endoscopic ear surgery and endoscope-assisted microsurgery are still new concepts, with relatively few centres in the UK performing them. Advantages include better visualisation of difficult to reach areas, such as the sinus tympani, and limited external incisions. This paper reports our short-term outcomes for endoscopic middle-ear surgery.MethodsA prospective review was conducted of the first 103 consecutive patients undergoing totally endoscopic ear surgery or endoscope-assisted microsurgery in 1 centre performed by 1 operator. The outcomes assessed were: tympanic

Abstract Objective To assess the endomeatal endoscopic morphological anatomy of hypotympanum under local anesthesia and further cadaveric dissection of temporal bone to know complete anatomical details of hypotympanum. Materials and Methods Two hundred six cases of live operations were studied, these included 160 cases of simple dry perforations for myringoplasty and 46 cases of stapedectomy operations. All operations were performed under local anesthesia using a 0-degree, 4-mm endoscope. The hypotympanum was visualized. Twenty wet temporal bones were dissected endoscopically and complete hypo

Stapedecomy traditionally is performed using operating microscope. Eventhough it is a time tested procedure, it had its own draw backs. In patients with excessive bony overhang it would be difficult to access the middle ear cavity using operating microscope. Using Endoscope authors were able to circumvent these difficulties. Endoscopic examination of middle ear cavity was in vogue since 1992. 10 Advantages of using endoscope include: Excellent exposure, visualization of entire middle ear cavity with ease, excellent crystal clear images. All the steps of stapedectomy could easily be performed u

Abstract Background The traditional approach for viewing middle ear structures during ear surgery is still the microscope, which provides both hands’ flexibility and binocular vision. The requirement for a clear, direct vision of the working zone is its primary disadvantage. The procedure was modified for the microscope by using an end-aural approach, drilling the bone canal, and then moving the patient and surgeon. However, the microscope has successfully demonstrated that it is the preferred tool for stapedectomy. Objective To compare endoscopic and microscopic interventions in stapes surger

Abstract:
ABSTRACTBackground: Otosclerosis with obliterated footplate describes a condition with an overgrowth of bone so that the oval window is almost indistinguishable from the surrounding area. The occurence of round window obliteration is uncommon. In such cases, surgery is more difficult to perform and the results are often unsatisfactory. Purpose: To find out the management option for obliterative otosclerosis. Case report: A 35-year-old-man with suspected bilateral otosclerosis. The patient underwent transcanal endoscopic stapes surgery of the left ear with large fenestra stapedotomy procedure.
