Abstract:
Endosseous oral implant is applied for orthodontic anchorage in subjects with multiple tooth agenesis. Its effectiveness under orthodontic loading has been demonstrated clinically and experimentally. This study investigates the deformation and stress on the bone and implant for different bite forces by three-dimensional (3D) finite element (FE) methods. A numerical simulation of deformation and stress distributions around implants was used to estimate the survival life for implants. The model was applied to determine the pattern and distribution of deformations and stresses within the endosseo

Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal timing for placement and to evaluate short- and long-term outcomes of endosseous implants in bone-grafted alveolar clefts. Design: Fourteen patients who underwent alveolar cleft bone grafting (ACBG) and closure of an oronasal fistula followed by restoration of the missing lateral incisor tooth using endosseous implants (EI) were studied. The oronasal fistulae were closed using local flaps, and the alveolus was grafted with fresh autogenous iliac marrow. Endosseous implants were placed a minimum of 4 months following ACBG. The av

Background: Poly Ether Ether Ketone (PEEK) has been considered as a potential alternative material for endosseous dental implants, for its low elastic modulus, biocompatibility, and low cost in customized device manufacture. Hydroxyapatite-incorporation is supposed to improve the poor osseointegration of PEEK. Methods: In the present study we analyzed the in vivo response of hydroxyapatite-incorporated PEEK (PEEK-HA) implants in canine tibia. The use of endosseous implants is directly related to the topography and quality of the patient’s residual bone. Severaltechniques have been tried to expand its application through implant design alterations and surgical techniques for boneaugmentation. This article reviews the sandwich osteotomy combined with an interpositional autograft for vertical andtransversal augmentation in the atrophic mandible prior to endosseous implant placement. In conclusion, segmentalmandibular sandwich osteotomy can be recommended to fulfill the dimensional requirements of preimplant boneaugmentation in atrophi

Abstract Although the overall success rate of implant dentistry is very high, dental implants occasionally fail. It is essential for the clinician to recognize unhealthy implants and to determine whether they are ailing, failing, or failed prior to beginning any salvage efforts. Ailing and failing implants are amenable to therapy. Implants diagnosed as failed should be removed. This review provides the reader with information on non-surgical and surgical therapies available for managing ailing and failing implants. Implant osseointegration has not been accepted over time, considering that in fact the implant integration is performed only in the soft tissue of the host. For this reason, the implant has never been sufficiently integrated into the host tissue immediately after insertion. Experiments performed in Branemark laboratories in the early 1960s, with a new type of implant, which required a direct anchorage to bone tissue for clinical function, this anchorage was called osseointegration. It has been shown that it is possible to achieve direct osseointegration if the Branemark method is considered, w
