Abstract:
To the Editor.— The current recommended therapy for patients with meconium aspiration consists of extensive suctioning of the oropharynx and nasopharynx after delivery of the head, with subsequent endotracheal intubation and deep suction with the endotracheal tube as the suction catheter. The upper airway is commonly cleared with a bulb syringe and/or a Delee suction device. With both the Delee and the currently recommended endotracheal suction methods, the physician's mouth is the source of negative pressure.

In Reply.— The technique that I described is briefly as follows. The finger device is removed from a standard suction catheter and attached to a 3.0- or 3.5-mm endotracheal tube after removing the endotracheal tube's adaptor. The infant is intubated with this endotracheal tube and the wall suction tubing is attached with low wall suction applied. The technique has two advantages over Dr Beck's procedure. Although they both are effective means of removing meconium without risk to the resuscitator, the delivery room must first be stocked with a 10-F semistiff suction catheter with a side suction

Abstract:
Handling for airway obstruction due to excessive accumulation of secretions can be done with suction, suction is done by inserting suction catheter tube into endotracheal tube or tracheostomy which aims to liberate airway. Endotracheal suction in critically ill patients can cause increased intracranial pressure, brain swelling and systemic hypoxemia may even lead to death. The easiest way to find out hypoxemia is by looking at the patient's oxygen saturation of peripheral oxygen saturation is a presentation of hemoglobin binds with oxygen in the arteries with normal values between 95-100%.This

Undiagnosed oesophageal intubation during anaesthesia is a major cause of anaesthetic-related morbidity and mortality. A test was devised and evaluated to distinguish between placing an endotracheal tube in the trachea and in the oesophagus. The test involves threading a lubricated nasogastric tube through the endotracheal tube, applying continuous suction to the nasogastric tube and then attempting to withdraw the nasogastric tube. Four aspects distinguish an endotracheal tube in the trachea from one in the oesophagus: 1. the length of nasogastric tube inserted and the feel of the final obstr

Respiratory failure can be characterized by a decrease in oxygen saturation. Oxygen saturation is the percentage of hemoglobin about oxygen in the arteries. Normal oxygen saturation is in the range of 95% - 100%. The cause of respiratory failure can occur due to pulmonary disorders such as pneumonia, sepsis, heart failure, or neurological disorders. Airway obstruction is a condition in which a person is unable to expel secretions effectively, this condition can lead to respiratory failure. Suction aims to free the airway, reduce the buildup of secretions, and prevent lung infections. This lite

Bacterial glycocalyx formations on the inner lumens of endotracheal tubes may be dislodged into the lower airway by suction catheter insertions or saline instillations. Repeated introduction of bacteria into the lower airway may overwhelm host defense mechanisms, leading to nosocomial pneumonia. Ten crossover subjects required intubation for 2 to 39 days. A range of 0-62,000 (mean 26,980) viable bacterial colonies per milliliter was dislodged from freshly removed endotracheal tubes by either catheter insertion or saline instillation. Abstract:
Endotracheal tube (ETT) suction is a common nursing procedure within the paediatric intensive care (PIC) setting. Significant side effects associated with this procedure can dramatically affect the stability of the critically ill ventilated paediatric patient. A comprehensive literature review failed to establish clear standards for determining when the procedure is warranted, especially in the paediatric population. This can present difficulty for the inexperienced paediatric intensive care nurse when assessing a patient's need for ETT suction. The aim of the research was to design an evidenc
