Abstract:
This chapter details the tradition of ancient Chinese medicine that puts self-care for disease prevention and health promotion first and advocates the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle while keeping in mind sensitivities to the seasonal and environmental energies. It discusses the essential components of lifestyle, including sleep, diet, exercise, sex, meditation, and life cultivation, that address the health of the mind, body, and spirit. It emphasizes energetic circadian times of the day and seasons of the year in relation to the management of health. This book also uniquely introduces the ancient concept of Xiu Liang, or cultivating one’s life for health, and an example of its modern practice.

Abstract:
Recovery after work is essential in order to stay energetic when facing work demands. This chapter discusses how unwinding and restoration processes after work relate to experiences at the work–family interface. Empirical studies have shown that specific activities (e.g., sport and exercise) and experiences (e.g., psychological detachment from work during nonwork time) are important to achieve recovery. Boundary management strategies at the work–family interface (e.g., a preference for segmentation) predict recovery experiences. Moreover, recovery experiences moderate the relationship between work–family conflict (particularly family-to-work conflict) and strain outcomes. This chapter presents directions for future research and highlights practical implications by describing what individuals, families, and organizations can do in order to foster recovery processes.

Wu, Chia-Huei. Employee Proactivity in Organizations. Policy Press, 2019. http://dx.doi.org/10.1332/policypress/9781529200577.001.0001.

Abstract:
What makes some people more likely to initiate positive change within their organizations? Why some employees are more proactive than others? Can this behavior be influenced by management? What supervisors, team managers and organizations can do to promote employees’ proactivity? Employee proactivity has largely been understood in terms of employees changing their environment or changing themselves. People who are proactive envision a better future and take action to achieve it. They should be confident, motivated, and energetic, as it is not always easy to bring about change. Being supported in relationships with surrounding others is the greatest aid to such courage. By introducing and developing the notion of attachment theory as a new theoretical lens through which to examine such behavior, this book unpacks a relational basis of proactivity and provides academics with a new way of thinking about employee behavior and creates a compelling guide for practitioners and managers.

Abstract:
This chapter provides the first overview of political bots, fake accounts, and other false amplifiers in Poland. Based on extensive interviews with political campaign managers, journalists, activists, employees of social media marketing firms, and civil society groups, the chapter outlines the emergence of Polish digital politics, covering the energetic and hyper-partisan “troll wars,” the interaction of hate speech with modern platform algorithms, and the recent effects of “fake news” and various sources of apparent Russian disinformation. The chapter then explores the production and management of artificial identities on Facebook, Twitter, and other social networks—an industry confirmed to be active in Poland—and assesses how they can be deployed for both political and commercial purposes. Overall, the chapter provides evidence for a rich array of digital tools that are increasingly being used by various actors to exert influence over Polish politics and public life.

Coulson, Graeme, and Mark Eldridge, eds. Macropods. CSIRO Publishing, 2010. http://dx.doi.org/10.1071/9780643098183.

Full text
Abstract:
This book covers the proceedings of a major 2006 symposium on macropods that brought together the many recent advances in the biology of this diverse group of marsupials, including research on some of the much neglected macropods such as the antilopine wallaroo, the swamp wallaby and tree-kangaroos. More than 80 authors have contributed 32 chapters, which are grouped into four themes: genetics, reproduction and development; morphology and physiology; ecology; and management. The book examines such topics as embryonic development, immune function, molar progression and mesial drift, locomotory energetics, non-shivering thermogenesis, mycophagy, habitat preferences, population dynamics, juvenile mortality in drought, harvesting, overabundant species, road-kills, fertility control, threatened species, cross-fostering, translocation and reintroduction. It also highlights the application of new techniques, from genomics to GIS. Macropods is an important reference for academics and students, researchers in molecular and ecological sciences, wildlife and park managers, and naturalists.
