Firstly, we address dynamic speed scaling, where processors can run at variable speed/frequency. The goal is to use the speed spectrum of the processors so as to minimize energy consumption while providing a desired service. Here we focus on multi-processor platforms with heterogeneous CPUs. Secondly, we examine power-down mechanisms where idle devices can be transitioned into low-power standby and sleep states. We consider power-down mechanisms in massively parallel systems, whe

Abstract:
Building energy and environmental efficiency is presently one of the most important research subjects due to global climate change and the actual geopolitical situation. Residential buildings should provide a comfortable environment for the occupants while they spend up to 90% of their life indoors. Moreover, a comfortable indoor environment should be provided efficiently and affordably. Thus, the examination of the correlated factors of buildings' energy efficiency and occupants' comfort is highly anticipated. This field can be analyzed using various methods, where computational simulations a

Abstract:
This paper investigates trends in energy intensity in Latin American countries over the last 40 years. It applies the Fisher Ideal Index to decompose the energy intensity into the relative contributions of energy efficiency and the activity mix, and then analyzes the determinants of these energy indexes through panel data regression techniques. Finally, the paper compares the performance of Latin American countries to that of a similar set of countries chosen through the synthetic control method. The authors find that the energy intensity in Latin American countries has decreased about 20 perc
