<p> Investment in Research and Development (R&amp;D) is necessary for innovation, allowing an organization to maintain a competitive edge. The U.S. Federal Government invests billions of dollars, primarily in basic research technologies to help fill the pipeline for other organizations to take the technology into commercialization. However, it is not about just investing in innovation, it is about converting that research into application. Abstract:
In the last few decades Creative Industries (CIs) have been gaining ground as an important topic in academic and political agendas. CIs have their origin in creativity and individual talent to produce content, services or products with symbolic value, e.g. design, music, video games, among other sectors. The rationale in grouping these rather diverse activities together was said to be that individual creativity and intellectual capital were the primary drivers for these sectors. Moreover, digital technologies play an important role as they provide new forms of expressions of creativity (such

It changed from an analytical tool for technology evaluation, which depends heavily on quantitative and qualitative modelling methodologies, into a strategic planning tool for policy-making concerning acceptable new technologies, which depends on participative policy problem analysis. The goal of technology assessment today is to gen

In recent years, the necessity and opportunity for transforming pulp and paper mills into integrative units for large-scale output of biochemicals, biomaterials, and biofuels have come up in discussions of industrial renewal in the Northern hemisphere (mainly in Canada, Sweden and Finland). This transformation is related to technology shifts as well as changing business models based on new bioproducts due to profoundly new market conditions. The aim of this dissertation is to analyse how wood-based biomass industries – with an emphasis on incumbent pulp and paper industries (PPIs) – are managi

Abstract:
Digital Clay represents a new type of 3-D human-computer interface device that enables tactile and haptic interactions. The Digital Clay kinematics structure is computer controlled and can be commanded to acquire a wide variety of desired shapes (shape display), or be deformed by the user in a manner similar to that of real clay (shape editing). The design of the structure went through various modifications where we finally settled on a crust matrix of spherical joint unit cells. After designing the kinematics structure, the next step is predicting the deformation of the crust matrix based upo
