Abstract:
ABSTRACTThe molecular relaxations behavior of chitosan (CS) films in the wide frequency range of 0.1-3x109 Hz (by using three different impedance analyzers) have been investigated in the temperature range of -100C to 120°C using Dielectric Spectroscopy (DS). Additionally to the low frequency molecular relaxations such as α and β relaxations, for the first time, high frequency (1-3 GHz) relaxation process has been observed in the chitosan films. This relaxation exhibits Arrhenius-type dependence in the temperature range of -100 C to 54°C with negative activation energy -2.7 kJ/mol. At temperatu

Abstract:
The dielectric relaxation behavior of thermotropic liquid crystal copolyester of 73% of p-hydroxy-benzoic acid (HBA) and 27% of 2-hydroxy-6-naphthoic acid (HNA) (Vectra-A) at poling temperature 80°C has been studied using thermally stimulated depolarization current (TSDC) technique in the temperature range from 15°C to 250°C. The TSD currents were obtained for different polarizing fields ranging from 3.8 kV/cm to 19.2 kV/cm. TSD current spectra in the temperature range from 15°C to 250°C show three current maxima around 25°C, 110°C, and 220°C. The maxima around 25°C and 110°C correspond to cha

The relaxation time scales in a commercial-grade Zr41.25Ti13.75Ni10Cu12.5Be22.5 (at.%) bulk metallic glass were examined using transient and dynamic mechanical experiments. The viscoelastic and sub-Tg relaxations were well described by the Kohlrausch–Williams–Watts relaxation function. A large activation energy (4.0 eV) and small nonexponentiality parameter (approximately 0.5) were observed for viscoelastic relaxation above Tg consistent with the cooperative nature of atomic movements leading ultimately to viscous flow. Conversely, a small activation energy (0.1 eV) and large nonexponentiality

Abstract:
Understanding changes in materials properties as a function of size is crucial for both fundamental science development and technological applications. Size restriction results in quantum confinement effects that modify both energy level structures and electron dynamics of solid materials. This study investigates individual quantum states in a single nanocrystal. Single electron charging effects in gold and semiconductor nanocrystals are observed. Charging effects are found to be dominant in samples, where the nanocrystals are weakly coupled to the substrate. For nanocrystals strongly couple

In the dissertation, excitation energy transfer was studied in an excitonic dimer under various conditions of inter-chromophore resonance interaction and in different regimes of the system-bath coupling. We examine the manifestation of quantum coherence in the energy transfer in molecular dimer, within the hierarchy of the relaxation processes: vibrational relaxation, energy redistribution within single exciton manifold and relaxation to the ground state. In order to capture the coherence effects in the limit of weak resonance interaction a novel technique has been presented. We are able to re

Understanding energy transfer processes is an essential prerequisite for the deep understanding of all chemical processes. This thesis investigates the process of vibrational relaxation (or deexcitation) of highly vibrationally and electronically excited molecular iodine (I2) induced by very low energy collisions in a supersonic free jet with six foreign gases. In an investigation of the state-to-field relaxation of I2 (B 3II+ou, v = 16) induced by collisions with He at temperatures of 2 to 12 K we find that the absolute relaxation rates are an order of magnitude smaller than those at 300 K an
