Both premises should be respected in care delivery, with the clear notion that children are a population of attention and particular needs, because they’re more fragile and require adequate responses to their specificities, which therefore requires a constant adaptation of the professionals. To implement strategies to prevent adverse events is essential. Objective: To demonstrate the competences development during the course. Methodology: Implementation of an intervention project with the objective of promoting a culture of child safety in health contexts. Results: Risks have been identified, particularly regarding drug management processes. Conclusion: The implementation of preventive strategies for adverse events is crucial for identifying the risks of each context, thus allowing the care provided to children to be of higher quality.

Full textIn nursing, effective communication in health care transition it’s a professional skill focused on teamwork and it’s considered a key element for safety and quality care. The connection between a proper communication and an improvement in healthcare results has been clearly proven throughout the last 20 years. However, today’s reality shows that miscommunication still exists and has been considered the main cause of harmful events/mistakes in healthcare services that compromise people’s safety. The way we communicate it’s a complicated process, demanding special attention from nurses to understand it and adopt strategies that promote communication effectiveness in health care transition, especially in pediatric population, that due to their specific characteris-tics present a larger incident occurrence during care rendering when compared to an adult. The use of standard tools is recommended worldwide by healthcare organizations and it has been considered the best strategy for communication effectiveness and consequent preven-tion and minimization of harmful events/mistakes in healthcare services. The present report intends to mirror the training and reflective path developed in an internship context in the scope of acquiring and developing common and specific master nurse competences in the child health and pediatric nursing area. The execution of this report has allowed us to reflect about the learning path and performed activities, namely in the project thematic area, enrolled in the investigation line “Safety and Quality of Life”, responding to the goals that we had set for the elaboration of the present work

Full textEarly childhood is decisive in the development of the human being, since it is at this stage that principles that determine the later learning are outlined. Although there are innate abilities, there are others that result from the interaction, as such, learning and stimulation in early childhood is necessary, because the child's brain has great potential for learning and parents have the opportunity to optimize the development of the child , contributing to the formation of a more healthy and balanced personality, which will build a positive identity for future stages. Based on the philosophy of family-centered care and the theoretical framework of Meleis, we devised an intervention project based on the project methodology, defining as main objective the following: to develop competencies of Nursing Specialist in Child and Pediatric Health Nursing for the through the promotion of child development in childhood. Using reflective analysis, this report describes the activities carried out along the training course and proves the development of the skills acquired.

Full textAntimicrobial resistance is a growing problem of public health, which contributes to the prevalence of infections associated with health care and which are more prevalent in the pediatric age, being infection control fundamental and imperative for the safety and quality of care. In the line of research on "Safety and Quality of Life", and through the adoption of the methodology of project work, interventions were made adapted to the needs and particularities of four distinct contexts, with the aim of contributing to the promotion of effective infection control in pediatrics. For effective infection control, it is concluded that it is essential to raise awareness among professionals about the problem and to encourage parental participation, through the establishment of a true partnership of care, in the fulfillment of the necessary measures. The interventions focused on solving specific context problems, which proved to be important and motivating for nurses. The entire training course is articulated throughout the report, as well as the reflection on its contribution to the acquisition of the master competences, common and specific of the specialist nurse in child and pediatric health nursing.

Full textThis report aims to describe and analyze the personal and professional experience and the competences of the candidate to Specialist Nurse, following the completion of internships in children health and pediatric nursing. The internships were designed to develop the trainee’s general and specific competences in children/youth health nursing. Another aim was to promote and support the development of Family Centered Care (FCC) practices in healthcare facilities. The clinical practice – Module I “Child Health” was held at Centro de Educação para o Cidadão Deficiente (CECD, Mira Sintra) and at Direcção-Geral da Saúde. The clinical practice – Module III was held at a Pediatric Emmergency Department and at a Neonatal Care Unit from two hospitals in Lisbon. The description and analysis of the training experiences are structured according to the stages of health planning. The Report also identifies and discusses the specific and general competences of child health nursing developed by the trainee within the following domains: (1) professional/ethical and legal responsibility; (2) quality improvement; (3) management of care; (4) development of professional learning; (5) conception of nursing care for the child/young and family. In the domain of research, the Report describes two descriptive-correlational studies performed during the practice clinic. These studies aimed to: (1) identify the nurses’ perception about the practices of FCC; and (2) analize the factors that influence these perceptions. The results of the study suggest that nurses identify organizational and individual difficulties in the implementation of FCC. The Report is concluded with a discussion of the implications of the results of the studies for nursing research and practice, as well as for the development and implementation of FCC practices. The discussion also focuses on the complexity of current contexts of child/youth and family health care, and the resulting need to consider the development of competences of specialist nurses as a continuing learning process

Full textThe first two years in the life of a human being life are certainly the most chal-lenging, while providing the greatest achievements that we can witness. The child's phys-ical, cognitive and social development depends on individual achievements supported by the health promotion provided by their parents / caregivers. Therefore, it is essential to promote and develop healthy lifestyles that may foster healthier societies. There are several recommendations from the World Health Organization regarding healthy eating in children up to two years old and they all highlight the importance of breastfeeding, the introduction and diversification of food, promoting a healthy and balanced diet. The first two years of life are fundamental in preventing obesity and other food related patholo-gies. This report, within the scope of the master's degree in nursing with the speciali-zation in child and pediatric health, shows the training path carried out during the final project. It depicts a project development and implementation, in its diferent stages, ac-cording the work methodology, supported by Nola Pender's health promotion model. Common and specific skills of the nurse specialized in child and pediatric health are emphasized, based on Anne Casey's care partnership models

The formative path we went throw, and published here, is guided by/follows the topic “Nursing care needs in specific populations”. The objective of this work is to improve the care provided to children with reading and writing disabilities, which interfere with the child development, and can end up causing harmful and negative repercussions. The damage can be minimized when the problems are recognized at an early age. The use of the work methodology of the project it’s the same used to “build” the path that will lead to the development and acquisition of knowledge and skills, within the master’s degree of childcare and pediatric nursing. In this project, we’ll also explain conceptual foundations, and expose our analysis and reflection about our clinical practice. The development of this project helped provide a sensibilization and a change on the way people think about care on children with writing and reading disabilities, promoting the excellence in nurse care, and giving an enriching opportunity, both in personal and professional levels

Health Literacy has an important role in improving health status. However, it cannot be dissociated from general literacy, being this the premise that guided our training path, as well as our health intervention project – "Stories to Grow in Love and Health", which aimed to promote literacy and shared reading, as well to promote health literacy in a playful-pedagogical way, with family involvement. The project has been proven to be a leading factor for moments of shared reading, consequently promoting health literacy and increased gains in Child Health

Full textChild abuse is a scourge that victimizes children every day. Diagnose situations where there is commitment of child development and disregard for the child rights is no easy task. Yet despite the inconsistency in the concept, more and more health professionals are trying to address this issue, working the protective factors, maintaining family cohesion, thereby contributing to the protection of child rights. When caring for children with disabilities their vulnerability is accentuated toward the caregiver and the very limitations of society that do not allow their inclusion. The Nurse Specialist, by promoting the binding and adjustment of parenting skills to the child / young person needs, contributes to the minimization of risk factors, fostering a healthy development of the child / young person and family. The Training Report explains the academic development path made over three modules completed in two different institutions - Centro de Reabilitação de Paralisia Cerebral and the Centro Hospitalar de Lisboa Central, EPE/ Hospital Dona Estefânia. According to the diagnostic report prepared in each module, objectives, activities and skills were recommended to be acquired as a Nurse Specialist in Pediatrics and Child Health. Using a reflective approach, scientific and considering the theoretical model of Anne Casey added value compared to "prevention of abuse of children with disabilities", several activities aimed at children / youth, family and multidisciplinary team were developed. Over the three modules binding was promoted through Binding cards offered to parents; Augmentative Alternative Communication introduced in Hospital Health Services and recommended the partnership between health care institutions that care for children with disabilities. With the development of activities deemed appropriate by the multidisciplinary team, health care centered on the needs of children / youth with disabilities, leaving aside institutional constraints. There is still a long way to go toward the defense for the rights of children with disabilities, yet I believe that with the implementation of activities directed at the child / youth, family and multidisciplinary team new horizons were opened up in the approach of caring. The child is and always will be the future, so it's up to all of us to defend the future we want to live in.

Full textThis report comes from the testimony of the trainee in the process of transition from a general to a specialized care for children. This process occurred not only due to the experiences offered by her career as a nurse, but also from learning acquired in the course of the Internship Master's degree in Nursing Nature Professional Specialisation in Child Health Nursing and Pediatrics, sponsored by the Institute of Health Sciences Portuguese Catholic University of Lisbon. The report presents not only theoretical and conceptual foundations, but also a report concerning the way the trainee assumed the central problematic of child maltreatment in different contexts of action, displayed in three modules. Thus, were developed by the intervener, actions with the assumed main goal: "Developing skills in specialist nursing care for children at risk and / or danger" The first module, took place at Casa da Encosta in Cascais and at a Community Care Unit in Damaia, and stood the preparation of the "Script Supervisor of Domiciliary Visit" and planning the pioneer project "Adolescent Mothers" as interventions at the primary and secondary level in child maltreatment prevention. In Pediatric Service of Hospital Professor Doutor Fernando Fonseca E.P.E., second module, was structured a “Risk Sheet ", as a contribution to secondary and tertiary level prevention, in situations of admitted minors at risk or danger of abuse. And in the Intensive and Special Care Neonatal Unit of the same hospital, third module, was conducted a secondary prevention level through the dissemination and public awareness of the International Day of Prematurity and elaboration of the "Manual of Support and Community Resources". Therefore, the author tried to contribute to early intervention in family by promoting protective factors for a healthy child development, through risk and child vulnerability limitation of violence. The reader may follow the route of the trainee in search of the quality in caring for the child and family in contexts of risk and/or danger. Full textThe introduction of play in the paediatric health care is an important therapeutic tool allowing the children to reorganize its perception through the expression of his feelings and emotions to cope with security the anxiety caused while facing a potential traumatic situation. When we think of child care in a holistic view we cannot limit ourselves to drug interventions or rehabilitation techniques. The child needs resources in its own domain to express and live the experience of going to a health care facility (hospital or primary care). In that perspective, several studies point to the importance of play during illness or hospitalization. The paediatric nurse who plays a role in the specialized care of children and their families has a fundamental role in the application of therapeutic play as health promotion. This internship report presents itself as a critical reflexion on the activities developed facing the current literature on therapeutic play in primary and hospital care, having in mind the role of the paediatric nurse as the main prosecutor of its use. This path was ruled by one main goal, to develop competences as a paediatric nurse in promoting play as a therapeutic instrument. The first stage took place in Centro Saúde dos Olivais, where the main objetive was to promote health through prevention and teaching. The second stage was developed in Serviço de Internamento Pediátrico do Hospital da Luz where several interventions in the application of therapeutic play were developed. The third stage was divided between Serviço de Neonatologia do Hospital da Luz, where the need for continuous professional development of nurses to teach premature babies parents was identified, and Serviço de Urgência Pediátrica do Hospital de Santa Maria where therapeutic play was applied to diminish the negative consequences of hospitalization promoting an empathic relationship between nurse and child

Full textThis report comes under the Master's Degree in Nursing, in the specialization area of Pediatrics and Child Health Nursing, and aims to present, analyze and reflect on the route held in the Internship Course. This had as its central theme the partnership-in-care, specifically the importance in establishing an effective partnership between parents and nurses, for the highest quality and humanization in child-care. The Partnership Model, a nursing theory by Anne Casey, supported by values and beliefs that make parents the best child-care providers, respecting and appreciating their experience and contribution, was the thread of this path. Apart from a brief conceptual and theoretical framework on this issue, this report also held a systematic review of the literature, with the aim to answer the question: What is the nurses’ role in promoting partnership-in-care with the parents of a hospitalized child? The results subsequently substantiate the activities, along with the requirements found in the various contexts of the Internship, with the purpose to promote evidence-based practice. Throughout the Internship Course were developed several activities, with the aim to acquire skills as a Specialist in Child Health and Paediatrics Nurse, in particular those related to the promotion of partnership between parents and nurses. Here, the realization of a training session for parents about health/oral hygiene in children and the construction of leaflets about relevant topics for each context stands out, as they allowed to promote the partnership-in-care over the transmission and knowledge sharing. Through analysis and reflection criticism, carried along this path, and this report, it was possible to gain skills as a Specialist Nurse in Infant and Pediatric Health, at assistance children and their families, in response to life cycle and development child specific needs, with the aim to maximize their health.

Full textThe humanization of care is a central concept for excellent nursing practice. In this sense, talking about humanization in nursing is talking about caring for the other, being a human being with several dimensions. With the advancement of technology, care has been very focused on carrying out technical procedures, leading to their dehumanization, thus highlighting the importance of this theme. The humanization of pediatric care gains special relevance as children are in full development and their immaturity leads them to experience difficulty in understanding / dealing with the nursing care provided to them, especially painful ones. The family is an essential resource for the child and the nurse, since the provision of care in pediatrics is characterized by care centered on the family and in partnership with the family, being also the target of care. The general objective was to develop skills as a specialist child and pediatric health nurse in the light of the humanistic theory of Paterson and Zderad, in different contexts, in order to contribute to the humanization of pediatric nursing care. Using the project methodology, specific objectives and activities tailored to each context were outlined, focusing on the child / family and health professionals, taking into account the scientific evidence. Thus, informative posters, guiding documents, training sessions were developed, as well as strategies to facilitate and promote dialogue between nurse-clients, such as making video calls and using the therapeutic toy. This report allows for a reflective and critical analysis of the activities developed and how they contributed to the acquisition of skills as a specialist child and pediatric health nurse, resulting in the humanization of pediatric care

Full textThis report is part of the Master's Course in Nursing in the area of Specialization in Child and Pediatric Health Nursing and aims to reflect and analyze the path developed, the skills acquired and the implications for the decision-making process. Bonding consists of the emotional bond between the newborn and his bonding figure, usually the mother, father or main caregiver. The separation motivated by the newborn's hospitalization in the neonatal period causes a disruption in the bonding process, triggering future consequences in the family relationship and in the child's healthy development. The development of skills in the work of the specialist nurse in child and pediatric health considers Family-Centered Care, in maximizing care for the child and the family. The developed project focused on the intervention of the specialist nurse in promoting bonding to the hospitalized newborn, based on Joyce Travelbee's Person-to-Person Relationship Model, with interaction being the focal point in the development of the relationship between the nurse and the patient. child / family, and within the family itself enabling the construction of an effective link. The journey made through the internship contexts was extremely inspiring, as well as challenging. The implementation of the outlined project allowed the improvement of specialized nursing practices in all contexts, particularly with the implementation of protocols with interventions that promote linkage and training to the different nursing teams, as well as the proposal to implement a project aimed at promoting linking newborns in need of transfer in the early postnatal period. At the individual level, it provided the development of skills and the acquisition of a specialist nurse view.
